Awesome bike! I have the same one as you. I upgraded the front tire with a Specialized Butcher 2.3" and it has been amazing on the bike. I also upgraded my front fork with a RockShox Judy Silver which had made a huge difference in trail riding. It's been a fun bike to upgrade.
Tyson- that fork you have, does it also have 100mm of travel? I was looking at doing this myself as a noob. Curious if going from a 100mm fork to a 100mm fork makes sense or if I need to get a larger travel one. Thanks!

I have the blue 2020 Marlin 6. Only immediate upgrade I need is better pedals. I wanted the 7 but all sold out; I actually got the last Marlin at local bike shop (2 weeks ago).
@@geauxtime I have the same as you and I put the blue oneup composite pedals on it and it looks and feels great! check out the few videos I have so far to take a look at it. I'll be doing a review video of it in the near future.
Did you go tubeless? I bought the ardents skin walls for a different bike. Just got a 2022 XL Marlin 6 and thinking about swapping the ardents to the Marlin. Anyone know if u can run prestas instead of schrader tubes?
Good video. I just purchased the 7 about a week ago. I went on a 28 mile ride this past weekend and the seat really hurt my bottom. I had to upgrade ASAP!
Nice! Are you a bit more leaned back rather than forward over the bars? I find that when my seat is higher and I'm more aggressively on my legs and hands in a forward position that the seat isn't an issue. Everyone is different though and getting a more comfortable seat can't hurt.
I have a 2019 Marlin 6, and my internal routed cables sounded like marbles in a tin can. I found a great solution. Some split wire loom. Feed it from the bottom bracket until it stops. I made mine longer and wrapped the cable and hoses all the way to their termination point to shield them a little bit. Couple zip ties to hold stuff in place, and you are good to go. Great video, and great bike. Here is a link to what I purchased: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FW86XV6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Just trying to pass along a quick and cheap fix.
Man love that Trek Marlin 6 especially that color. I tried to get one but all the store in So. Cali is sold out even the Marlin 7s so I ended up with Marlin 5 Teal color and the only Marlin 5 left in So. Cali. Bike shops have been telling me that customers have been buying them fast from 5 to 7 and they can’t keep up with the demand.
I think the 5 is great too. Locking out the front fork is a big difference but it depends on what you're riding. Plus, you can always change components if you need to. Congrats on the 5 and enjoy it!
My 2019 Marlin 7 is the same color. It’s not nearly as clean though! It’s also a great commuter bike but has more gears (mine is a 3x9) and I have been able to top 20 mph on flats and 30 on downhills because I’m learning to pump on the fork to assist the groupset. I feel like the tires are perfect for my state’s bumpy roads but I mostly ride on crushed limestone gravel for 15-35 mile rides on converted rail lines. I started my season in February riding in slush and muck which is probably wearing my gears but I’m looking to upgrade to a 1x12 someday just because it would be lighter and simpler to manage. Speed isn’t that important and I’d actually like to ride more singletrack as the season wears on. My only gripe with the seat is that the post slips. I would love to put on a dropper post so that I can shift my weight around more easily. All in all it’s a great bike for what I do as well - much better than my old 4900. I just need to learn to maintain it better. If I had the chance to trade bikes I would have liked to have gone with an X Caliber 7 but the Roscoe 8 is also tempting since the Marlin is somewhat ungainly on trails. Btw what bike are you looking at for your wife? My wife rides a 2018 Trek FX2 but it doesn’t have disc brakes or an adjustable seat post. She wants a new one but hasn’t really looked into what there is. We’re also trying to get our 13yo into it but he can’t manage the FX2’s 21 speeds and he likes the alpha frame geometry so I’m thinking of taking the 4900 to a co-op to swap out the worn bottom bracket and groupset for a single speed.
Great points! Sounds like you'd smoke me haha, but I'm getting better! My wife wants a mountain bike like mine so I'm going to look into a Marlin 4 or 5 initially. She wants something simple to do family rides. Have you looked into that Bikes Direct site online for your son? I've seen some good feedback on some of those and since he'll likely want to upgrade, a less expensive bike now might be a good option. Thanks for all your comments and support. I really appreciate it!

Yes, the Deore 1x10 is very sweet for the price. I got to see one side by side with my 2019 Marlin 7 when I took it in for a tuneup. Same size and identical frame but much cleaner in many ways lol.
I haven't ridden the GT but for around the same price point, I'd go with the Marlin 6. You'll get better support from a local bike shop, and Trek, most likely and those are not small issues. I can't say anything negative about the GT because I simply haven't seen it in person or ridden it. I can say I have no regrets about the 6 and wouldn't choose the GT if I had to do it over again.
