If Ukraine loses the odds of every type of war rises including in Taiwan. No one wins in war but it is possible to have "peace" and lose. During soviet imposed famine under Stalin Ukraine was at "peace" but lost more people than many a war. This war was not a choice for Ukraine. It was imposed by Russia.
As people will always seek advantage when they can alliances are necessary. If everyone could live in their own box and not cast envious eyes on the neighbours then no wars. But humans, even animals aren't like that. Something to do with evolution.
Hope we never have to see this conflict because it would not end well for anyone. NATO is the stronger than Russia as a whole but, Russia is a nuclear power. If Putin faces an existential crisis I wouldn’t doubt that he would use a nuke to deter a NATO advance on Moscow. This would bring about a nuclear holocaust. We all lose!

With geopolitics in the state they are, you need to add in China, the Middle East, India, Brazil, North Korea, African nations in to Russia’s figures, because that is how polarised the world is right now! And I bet the comparison wouldn’t favour us in NATO very much at all!
Brazil is an ally of the US and would remain neutral, India won't get involved because they hate China and are interested in doing business with the West, North Korea and African nations are a total non-factor. The most powerful country in the Middle East is Israel which is a US ally, the second most powerful is Saudi Arabia which is also a US ally. China is the only economy that can threaten the US, but they certainly wouldn't jump gung ho into a war with the West if it weren't for their own interests (like going for Taiwan) because their economy simply depends on Western trade to survive. The US is the richest country in the world and the EU is the largest economic bloc in the world after the US, and militarily NATO is simply unmatched. Russia loses just as hard even if you add all that

Very doubtful that India would pick Russia or with china due to conflicts. China would do whats best for their economy and war isnt profitable for them currently. North Korea would be with Russia 100%(with their 1950's weapons) Middle East would depend on the country but most of them don't have the economy or equipment to even attack each other(Which they are filled up doing) Brazil would favour NATO since they want to join it. Except 1500 operational russian tanks is a more realistic number. Rest is junk, used for spare parts or to refurbish them to useful tanks. But yes: they build 100+ a month now, to cope with losses in the war - keeping the total around 1500 as well.

This discrepancy is precisely why a war between the two powers is out of question. It would end in Armageddon and no one wins. Russia is not stupid, it won't surrender just for ecological or humanist reasons. That being said, those numbers are theoretical to say the least. There is strength on paper and strength on the field. And most importantly, there is military industrial production. NATO may seems mighty on paper, but seems to have difficulties to provide Ukraine with simple artillery shells and basic ammunitions. NATO has a great military budget, but has to pay three time the price for each tank, planes, missiles because it has to buy them to private capitalist companies. Russia military complex is state owned, it won't have to pay profit margins. Reality is that no European power has prepared itself for a long term war. The logistic and the industrial bases are not there. Europe lacks basic commodities while Russia has them all, the USA would be too far from the frontline to compensate, while Global South would revolt and cease deliver the commodities needed for Europe to sustain a war. And if by any luck, nukes are not used and Russia is really close to defeat, I bet China would intervene, annihilating the only the true advantages still has, that is the NAVY and Airforce. That some of our leaders are envisioning this possibility is beyond me. my 5 cents

CSTO is nothing more than just the hierarchical relation between Russia and other small nations. Indeed, Russia was not care about the territorial dispute in Armenia.
Six out of the ten largest economies on Earth are NATO countries. They mostly have voulnteer militarikes composed of professionals who have signed on for and trained for years using the most up-to-date military technlogy. CSTO is a motley collection of poor and weak Third World countries.
They would have no chance unless they fight like the Taliban.

@@victorhopper6774 It works. Glonass 3rd generation was released a couple of months ago. HIMARS aren't working because they're based on GPS, but Russian missiles and glide-bombs are hitting their targets because they use Glonass Gen 3.

All of which totally ignores the fact that the vast bulk of NATO's firepower exists in the USA and is not likely to be deployed in Europe as much of it will need to be held in reserve against the high probability of opportunistic conflict with China in the event of war in Europe.

4. Western - NATO struggle to unite cohesive force seen already in infighting in NATO Leadership- try putting that in real war footing when Russia is firing missiles and attacking
5. Putin has 87% of population behind - NO western leader has that - a lot of western countries are not behind their leaders, lm in Australia Albo will be voted out. Lot worse in EU and USA people don’t support this war we see the lies and propaganda- this is about money / corruption military industrial complex - Victoria Nulands lies and putting in pro USA Ukraine Govt (secret tapes)
6. Russia economy is doing well in war mode will nil deficit unlike US $134 trillion and EU not good either
7. China borders Russia
8. Geo politics- Israel and Gaza USA could not commit with China threat
9. USA and EU would not do well against China and Russia alliance that most probably would happen if NATO attacks Russia
10. EU has spent their arsenal and ammunition already, - Russian missiles better than west supersonic would take out attempt to build factories etc.
11. Western countries have a lot of domestic challenges- USA Border security, Germany Deindustrialisation, France - internal strife. Etc
As an Australian taking the emotion out and looking at a snap shot of the world conflicts and geo political landscape- NATO is in no position to take on Russia today. So in short my money is on Russia as EU forces are in not condition nor are its societies that are culturally divided lacking in places culture identity. Sooner the west wakes up the better.

This is more so given US aggression and posturing towards China and then the poor history of USA actions across world changing regime to suit US agenda ie:Ukraine but also examples specifically in Asia.
I think given BRICS and their different approach especially by superpowers Russia and China given voice and genuine respect to smaller members to prosper to drive success of BRICS that unlike US and NATO that funnels to elites ie: Ukraine and forever wars are a life support to USA economy to prolong the inevitable crash and decline as an example. Also given that Russia, India and China resources and communities with strong cultural identity with out the woke and cancel culture I believe will be infinitely stronger than West (as much as it pains me).

What's the reason of military comparison,tanks, ships,planes etc as long as you talk about nuclear weapons? Everybody talks about them and ranting for the coalitions as they are normal weapons and whoever has the most will be the winner. Better stop imagine glory in a war like this. Everyone or almost everyone will die in this case. In a conventional war there is a clear NATO advantage.

I think the latest number of Russian tanks destroyed now numbers over 6,000, so it's difficult to determine exactly how many tanks Russia has left. When they started fielding T-55's and T-62's from the 1950's and 60's, it's obvious that Russia is running out of tanks.
