    Mine is AWO made M76 in 8mm mauser. The care in manufacture by AWO really astonished me as being so well done. Accuracy at 300-500 yards is very good with PRVI PARTIZAN ammunition, 196 grail FMJ factory. It take some getting used to the ZRAK scope, but once familiar with its methods of ranging. it is quite good. I really like this rifle.

    A bunch of these were imported by Mitchel Arms in Ca. Hoewver, they arrived after the 1994 assault weapons ban. They had features- ie pistol grip that prevented their sale. They were seized by the ATF until these features were changed. Eventually plastic thumbhole stocks were added (horrible looking😝) and the guns were allowed to be sold. The teak stocks and pistol grips were sold separtely. I bought one of these rifles in Ca about 1996 and the teak pistol grip and stock. They were sold without the scopes and mounts. The story about the auto sear (theory) is new to me. Mitchell also had these Yugos in standard AK form, RPK setup and a 308 version- all in teak wood. I had them all! They were very accurate rifles. I knew a former Russian soldier who was always bragging about Russian AK's. I showed him these and he examined all- without saying a word- then he uttered " Russian guns crap!"

      @rabbitholereviews 2 года назад

      Its's a myth that gets retold a lot.....Zastava didn't use teak wood-- its either elm or birch. Teak would have been way too expensive to import and use on all the rifles/machine guns the Yugos made over the decades.

    When Mitchell Arms presented them to the ATF , they were initially approved and sold , but later recalled because the M76 had a "safety-sear" installed to prevent out-of-battery firing . The ATF , in their 'infinite wisdom said since it had a "third hole" in the receiver , it was a machine gun ! So all were recalled and de-milled /cut up and then sold as parts kits .

  • @StrongholdArmory

    The PSL doesn't have an adjustable gas block as standard. But what's weird with that M76 example is it looks like it's missing the selector stop. The selector stop plate is there, but the actual protrusion to stop the selector from being pushed off the receiver is missing. I wonder if it was installed backwards and it's on the other side which is a common new builder mistake.

    • @Lincoln_and_the_poor-boys
      @Lincoln_and_the_poor-boys 2 года назад

      That's because it used a rivet in the receiver as a selector stop at what would be the FA position on a standard AK.

    • @StrongholdArmory
      @StrongholdArmory 2 года назад

      I thought for sure I've only seen them with M70 type selector stops. But you're right, they also used the rivet type selector stop. Seems like all of the Mitchell imports and later rifles used the plate style. You should still be able to see the rivet when he tips the rifle on its side, but I don't see it. I tried looking for pictures on Rock Island's site and couldn't find it.

    • @Lincoln_and_the_poor-boys
      @Lincoln_and_the_poor-boys 2 года назад

      @@StrongholdArmory could just be that who ever built the rifle didn't bother replicating the original safety stop. I've been stumped trying to figure it out myself.

      Yugoslavia had a thing for the 8mm Mauser round. They used it in their bolt-action M48 and then they continued to use it in this DMR. I think it had something to do with being occupied by Germany during WW2 and having some of their plants converted (by the Germans) to produce German guns. It was easy to just keep them running churning out guns in the same caliber.

    • @chrisoffutt8968
      @chrisoffutt8968 2 года назад +3

      at the time the world was awash with surplus 8mm Mauser and the Yugoslavians were never on good terms with the Soviets which is why their guns never seem to follow the normal Soviet TDP. USSR said no SVD for you so the Yugoslavians made the M76 to fill the gap.

    This is my dream gun. Unfortunately, the US built receivers cause feeding issues. They’re no longer in production thanks to us bombing their factory as well.

    • @The02seta
      @The02seta 2 года назад +2

      It's not the receiver that induces the problem feeding. It is the use of AK build kits. If one where ro remove the forward trigger guard rivets and place the selector stop on the outside of the guard totally solves the problem. Or, one could do as I did and form a shim and adhere to the trigger guard to limit the travel of the magazine retainer lever. This lifts the rear of the magazine allowing the bolt to pickup a cartridge rather than over run them. :-)

    Although not exactly the same I seen firsthand a very similar rifle in Cyprus.
    The Cypriot National Guardmen were issued a 7.62 NATO version of this as a service rifle, 20 round box magazine.
    Never seen one with a scope. In 1987 i did a UN peacekeeping winter tour manning an observation post on the Green Line. BTW, in those days thier opposites, the Turks, carried the HK G3.

    • @jimjungle1397
      @jimjungle1397 2 года назад

      The 7.62x51 version used by Cyprus, is the M77. the milled receiver M77's used by Cyprus were traded for 7.62x39 stamped receiver M70's and the Cypriot M77's ended up going to Mali after Cyprus was finished them. Cyprus wanted the same cartridge the Greeks used, which was the same the Turks used, 7.62x51. After the M70's they bought Russian made AK-103's and others.

      @@Ratkill9000 Took a judge what republicans politicians won't do. Think of it as a basket ball game. When there's a game to begin the republicans are no show when pro-guns laws hit the committee floor. Instead of a basketball team that comes out to vote it's tumble weeds that roll out of the locker room.
      Yet when the pro-gun bill is removed from the committee floor due to no support from the republicans & the next bill comes up which is an Israel aid bill the "no-shows" decide only then to finally come out the locker room beating cheat chests with their firsts like a gorilla because they're so AMPED! about being able to pass the foreign aid bill.
      That shows what the republican politicians on the federal level really think of pro-gun laws. The recent anti-gun law shows that the republicans are more in support of anti-gun laws than pro-gun laws.
      Today we have 30 trillion dollars of debt, so no, "voting them out" is dumb answer. The republican party itself needs to be banned along with the democrats.

    Nice.
    What do you have in the vault from Anschütz if I may inquire?
    I got my start in competitions as a young boy using an old/vintage Anschütz 22LR my Father procured from a dear friend after his passing.
    If I remember correctly, it was a Model 54 (?) with the most amazing iron sights I have seen/used to date. I swear I could not miss with that rifle ladies and gentlemen.
    Unfortunately we no longer own it due to my ever-increasing interest in the M1 family of rifles. Which, as you already know, I spent the majority of my youth behind them [M1 series] at Ben Avery's One Thousand Yard Range.
    I did, however, attempt to use my Anschütz on the 1000 yard range but failed miserably. I never once saw an impact _anywhere_ using that little rimfire. That was actually my first introduction to the term "ballistics".
    For reference, I was around 8 or 9 years old. I remember this fondly because I was still a Cub Scout and as a result, we were able to convince AZGFD to open the Air Rifle building for our Pack.
    Little did I know that this single endeavor would open future doors at Ben Avery as I climbed the Scouting ladder from Tiger Cub to Eagle Scout. It was a lifelong relationship in the making.
    Stay classy my friends.
