    Watched this video again, just love your level of craftsmanship. Generally are flush inset cabinets quite a bit more costly vs. standard face frame cabinets like these? Flush inset drawers just look so elegant.

      Thanks ! Appreciate the support . I’ve got a lot going on behind the scenes and once I’m set up in a new space I’m planning to release a new vid each week ! Yes the flush inset involves more labor so more expensive since i scribe fit each front into the opening for a perfect fit .

    The grain matching looks great! You have a super well equipped space, is there any machines you would add given the opportunity?

      Thank you! Yes it all gets the job done . Certainly would add a large drum sander and possibly a dovetail machine. Also a larger planer. There’s always more you can buy for sure .

    I'd love to know more about your choice of sheet goods for both carcasses, drawers, and doors. For e.g. grade, panel core, thickness, and species for both paint grade and stain grade application.

    • @cabinetwise
      @cabinetwise  2 месяца назад +1

      For the carcass we use c2 maple ply veneer core . For the doors we use A1 white oak with a classic core . All 3/4 thick . Even if it’s paint grade we would use an A1 for anything outside the cabinet . It finishes smoother than the c2 , which we only use for interiors . So for paint grade we’d use maple a1 and often times for doors if this style just using 3/4 mdf with maple edge banding . Which paints up nice . We wouldn’t paint white oak bc you’d see the prominent grain through the paint .

    Great video. What does your finishing process look like if you were to do a clear coat on this vanity? I've heard sealing with de-waxed shellac and then apply water based poly. But would like to know your thoughts! Thanks.

      I’m not the best person to ask about finishing . I send all my work to my local finisher as it saves me time and allows me to move to the next project quickly . He sprays mostly with conversion varnish . That being said this white oak with a clear coat does look nice !

    Hi Richard quick question, when you calculate the gap between two doors or drawers, do undersize the lengths to take into account for the edge banding thickness or does the edge band just bite into the 1/4 gap. Hope this makes sense

      Thanks ! Glad to hear it . A close friend of my family became a mentor to me after high school and he taught me all about the trade . I took to it pretty quick and it was at a time (back in 2004 ) when there was so much work. I had been working for him in the summers even before graduating high school and after graduating went right to work and never looked back . Even in the recession of 08 we remained busy throughout my early years and it’s never really slowed down. Can’t imagine doing anything else .

    Hey how do you choose plywood that doesn't give off that barberpole effect when stained?

    • @cabinetwise
      @cabinetwise  Год назад

      I just make sure it’s a premium grade material and select carefully . It helps that there were stained pretty dark too. The color looked very even and consistent but yes that’s something to watch out for .

    I am having a hard time paying at the minimum 700.00 for an MDF 60" Vanity and I don't want to pay $2.5K for a vanity in a vacation home. I know I could make the carcass and LOVE the feet but am worried about the drawers. It looks amazing. Would love to see the final image.
