    This is hilarious because it is so accurate (the Somali wedding part.) In a Somali wedding;
    1. Only the bride's male family members attend the nikah
    2. The groom brings a load of cash and gives it to an elder among the bride's family which is then split among all the elders.
    3. The bride's side does not contribute a dime in the financing of the wedding. Sometimes, the groom even pays for her wedding dress.
    There is a set of edible gifts that the bride's family prepares for the groom and his family, however. Entire neighbours pitch in to help. And it is later delivered to the groom to untie the strings and extract the sweets, in a light ceremony.
    In my specific tribe, the groom also gifts the bride with a massive bag filled to the rim with clothes and jewelry.
    Things have now changed a bit, alhamdulilah. Weddings aren't as extravagant and are made simple considering the circumstances.

    In my culture ( Afghanistan) sadly, there is a lot of wrong things with weeding celebration. Like shirk, bidah, extravagant, free mixing , night girls . Etc...

      @Islam there are people who throw candy at you or will make circles around your faces with the candy during fiancé or wedding day believing that will protect from evil eyes ( auzubillah, I seek refuge in Allah) . Wich is shirk because only Allah is the protector .

      Same in Turkey. Weddings always have music, alcohol, free-mixing.

    بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
    السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
    The thing they mentioned about the women's family bringing a dowry, this is called a "Jahez" and *ASKING FOR THIS* is categorically condemned as a filthy Bid'ah and shameless action that is hated by the religious classes. Just wanted to point this out. The Ulamah clearly mention that asking for it is Haram.
