- Deputy Editor of 5Pillars Dilly Hussain reflects on the tawassul istighaatha debate he chaired between Shaykh Asrar Rashid and Ustad Abdul Rahman Hasan on Saturday 21st May 2016.
Tawheed and shirk are polar opposites! how can you just "agree to disagree" on such a fundamental principle in Islam! in fact, the the underlying causes of the "more important issues" are a result of Muslims falling into these tribulations!
boy, watch the whole debate. Abdul Rahman clearly changed his opinion a couple of times. Because he recognized something was wrong in his arguments. He couldn't say that it is shirk but he said it is haram since it is something new.
However, Asrar Rashid had achieved all he wanted. He did not wanted to debate with him whether it is haram or not to call upon the prophet in order that the prophet s.a.w. with the power of Allah helps us.
Most of the salafis brothers want watch the whole debate because they are not sincere. But being not sincere in ones attention to find out the truth is bad for you, do not forget.
@@deutscheislamischevereinig6814 I had watched the whole debate, please note all of the 'opinion changes'. The only thing was the before or after death part. Abdulrahman Hassan was upon the correct position.

You barelvis aren't sincere
If you saw the debate you'd see how asrar won't answer points
you didn't listen did you. when asking someone for help that Allah swt has given them power to help you, you are not committing shirk. if Allah swt has given Muhammad saw the power to be in the Barzakh while still helping us if we call upon Muhammad saw, surely it is allowed. the same way when the window of the green dome over Muhammad saw's grave was opened, rain came during a time of drought. are you denying this?
@@hassanalialqadiri what you are calling to is pure shirk. The companions never sought the aid of the messenger of Allah after his death. Bunch of Berailvi grave worshippers.
Surah Fatihah is enough to settle this matter. ...'You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help'...1:5
So do you thino Ustad Abdur rahman don't know about this verse ??
Why he didn't mentioned this verse in debate ??
Brother don't say anything if you don't know about the matter
By this analogy, we shouldn't seek help in duniya as well... There shouldn't be any difference then "TAHTAL ASBAAB AND FOKAL ABAAB".. SEEKING HELP FROM DOCTOR OR POLICE WILL BE TERMED AS SHIRK.... BECAUSE SURA FAITHA SAYS " TO YOU ALONE WE ASK FOR HELP ".THIS ANALOGY WILL MAKE MOCKRY OF RELIGION.

Frag Mich most of the salafi brothers are not sincere is an interesting accusation. They are trying to follow the sunnah how is that not being sincere?
Can u prove this darood shareef ﷺ from hadith ? 😆
All I heard was Ustadh Abdirahman did bring evidences. This is serious stuff, the other sheikh was waffling most of the time. No clear evidence that support new invention. Let’s be honest. Btw I don’t claim a subsect I’m Sunni Muslim.
Are u serious ustadh abdul rahman hasan smoothly schooled asrar rashid. Asrar had nothing left it wasnt event close. I watched the full debate lol
@@lishaplayss i watched that debate as a nuetral years ago. Abdul rahman did not school him. Thats way biased. If you watch it back he failed to answer alot of simple questions and resorted to preaching, rather than pulling out points and answering. Preaching doesnt win a debate. Just saying shirk shirk doesnt prove anything. Even his 3 requirements he made up, he couldnt prove where he got them from. There was alot of holes left unanswered.
Ironic dilly Hassan wants unity but he doesn’t condemn the takfirist salafist/wahabists
Abdulrahman Hassan failed to address two matters properly:
1. Bring up clear explicit evidence from Quran, sunnah or sayings of early generations about 3 conditions that he mentioned about istaghathah being permissible. He did brought up a verse but did his own istinbad.
2. Asrar Rashid made a good point that shirk is always shirk regardless of periods of time. In dunya, akhirah and barzakh shirk always stays shirk. Abdulrahman Hassan did not explain why something which is not shirk becomes shirk.
Abdul Rahman is a good lecturer and preacher
But preaching doesn't make him winner
He is literally started giving bayaan 😂😂😂😂😂(lecture)
Instead of countering his point
Asrar is smart actually he is good debater too

Tawassul, intercession after death, was heavily excepted and practiced by the 4 imams and khalaf. imam abu hanifa ra who learned directly from the tail end of the sahaba.
Literally no one has said it is shirk until recently in Islamic history. If you believe it’s shirk you need to give valid arguments and evidence this was the belief of the salaf. To just dismiss it as shirk it’s like saying the 4 imams (who were salaf) are deficient in aqeeda and misunderstood the meaning of tawhid and shirk. And that they possibly allowed and committed shirk, so yes this is a big issue so you must bring your dalil.
Brother, if one understand the difference between tawassul with the status of the prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam, his fadl and love...and istigaatha. Only then will you realise the first is haram and bidah and the second is shirk. If we can't understand this, we should not speak about the Deen of Allah azza wa jalla and bring fourth a clear buhtaan.
Secondly, 4 imams? Really?
You have slandered the great scholars. They are free from what you claim akhi
The debate was a good example of the 'scholars' vs the follower. The history of humanity and the deen is testimony to the fact that many misunderstandings and problems are caused by followers of greater people.
Hadith
Narrated Anas:
Whenever drought threatened them, `Umar bin Al-Khattab, used to ask Al-Abbas bin `Abdul Muttalib to invoke Allah for rain. He used to say, "O Allah! We used to ask our Prophet to invoke You for rain, and You would bless us with rain, and now we ask his uncle to invoke You for rain. O Allah ! Bless us with rain."(1) And so it would rain.

Sahih Bukhari
(1) why Didnt umar (Ra) take waseelah of Muhammad (saas) after his death, but of Ibn Abbas ?
Basic rule of Usul: Leaving something does not mean that it is haram.
Furthermore, other sahaba made istighatha after the prophet ﷺ passed away, such as the Hadith of Bilal ibnul Harith and the Hadith of Uthman Ibn Hunayf. Both ahadith are classified as sahih.
Learn the usul.
1) People tried to declare this narration authentic, yet it is not a prove for Istishfa at the grave of the Prophet (saw) because this is the action of an unknown man who is not the Sahabi Bilal, and this narration is opposing the consensus of the Sahabah, and also the dream shows that one should go to alive people for Istishfa and seeking rain and not to dead else why would someone be told to go to ‘Umar instead of the Prophet (saw)? And if the action of this unknown man was from the Sunnah, then it would come from the Sahabah in a Mutawatir way, yet we do not have one authentic narration from any Sahabi doing Istishfa at the grave of the Prophet (saw).
2) hadith
Other shahabi was during the lifetime of prophet, no one denies it the hadith from Bukhari clearly States that when prophet was present among us we would ask Allah through Prophet
@@tawwabali4419 Ibn Hajar says that the sahabi was Bilal ibnul Harith al Muzani. Others say the same thing.
The sahabi goes after he makes ISTIGHATHA at the grave of the prophet ﷺ, he goes to Umar and tells him what happened. Umar doesn’t declare him a mushrik, which tells us that it is not shirk and not even haram.
Show me how the narration is opposing the consensus?
@@omark7164 Firstly: We do not accept that this story is authentic since the reliablity and precision of Maalik ad-Daar is not known, and these are two principle conditions necessary for the authenticity of any narration, as is affirmed in the science of hadeeth. Ibn Abee Haatim mentions him in al-Jarh wa-Ta'deel (4/1/213) and does not mention anyone who narrates from him except Abu Saalih. So this indicates that he is unknown, and this is further emphasized by the fact that Ibn Abee Haatim himself, who is well known for his memorization and wide knowledge, did not quote anyone who declared him reliable, so he remains unknown. Then this does not contradict the saying of al-Haafidh (Ibn Hajar): '...with an authentic chain of narration, from the narration of Abu Saalih as-Samaan...' since we say: It is not declaration that all of the chain of narration is authentic (saheeh), rather only that it is so up to Abu Saalih. If that were not the case then he would have begun: 'From Maalik ad-Daar ... and its chain of narration is authentic.' But he said it in the way that he did to draw attention to the fact that there was something requiring investigation in it. The scholars say this for various reasons. From these reasons is that they may not have been able to find a biography for some narrator(s) and therefore they would not permit themselves to pass a ruling of authenticity without certainity and cause others to think it authentic and to use it as a proof. So what they would rather do in such a case is to quote the part requiring further examination, which is what al-Haafidh (rahimahullah) did here. It is also as if he indicates the fact that Abu Saalih as-Samaan is alone in reporting from Maalik ad-Daar, or that he is unknown, and Allah knows best. So this is a very fine point of knowledge which will be realized only by those having experience in this field. What we have said is also aided by the fact that al-Haafidh al-Mundhiree reports another story from the narration of Maalik ad-Daar, from 'Umar in at-Targheeb (2/41-42) and says after it: 'at-Tabaraanee reports it in al-Kabeer. Its narrators up to Maalik ad-Daar are famous and reliable, but as for Maalik ad-Daar then I do not know him.' The same is said by al-Haythamee in Majma' az-Zawaa'id (3/125)."
@@tawwabali4419 Malik ad-Dar is reported to be a sahabi, and he was the khazin of Umar.
Furthermore, al Bayhaqi has also classified it as sahih and Ibn Kathir in al Bidaya wan Nihaya.
Lastly, a Hadith is not classified as something “up to that point”. Ibn Hajar said “روى عن بن أبي شيبة باسناد صحيح" .
Ibn Kathir has also mentioned it in his book Musnad alFarooq where he says:
هذا اسناد جيد قوي
“This sanad is good and strong”.
And if major scholars mentioned this Hadith, and they didn’t classify the act as shirk, then who are you to say that the actions is shirk akbar?

Bro the topic of the debate belong to the first principle " Shahada"
We must know Islam well.
Irony Dilly, you call for unity of Muslims but one of the sides is too eager to declare the rest mushrik on mere conjecture. Who is the one dividing then?
Mere conjecture...
It is Allah who can only help you.
We love the prophet (SAW) so much,
However calling upon him for help from Allah is known as intercession.
Allah is the one who help, and knows the state of your affairs.
It’s quite simple.
Asrar is calling to istagaatha and justifying the adding of a intermediate between a person and Allah.
ARH is calling to make dua to Allah alone with no justification of an use of an intermediate.
Doing so, is shirk.
Simply because you are adding partners when Allah is one and only.
Jazzakallahu khairan.

Ustad Abdul Rahman was entertaining the crowd, he fail to answer basic questions like how can be something allowed in dunya and become shirk after death.....
If a person is in space and someone ask him for help, does he become a mushrik??
Jibran Naeem apparently you missed the three conditions ustadh mentioned that has to be present in order for a person to ask for another person’s help. Let me reiterate this to you, the first condition is that the person you are asking for help from has to alive not dead, second they have to be present meaning near you and it has to be something they are able to do.
So when the prophet was alive it was permissible to go to him and ask him to make dua for you because all three conditions meets the requirement but the moment he died, that became the end of asking him for help. This is pretty clear, how can we call on to the dead? SubhanAllah. We all know the prophet’s status is high but he forbade asking the dead for help while he was alive, so how can muslim today for into this mistake smh
Also the part that made the debate frightening for me is when at the end the side of ustadh were saying the takbeer, which is praising Allah, the other side shouted over them with ya Rasulullah omg that was mind blowing for me. I watched the two years ago and now 2 days ago and im still surprised at that part. Wiw may Allah guide us to follow the Qur’an and the sunnah strictly without going to the extreme ameeen
Jibran Naeem as for asking for help, even if the person is alive and near you, you have to ask them for help that is under their control like giving me a dollar or pass me a glass of water if they have it. But you cant go to someone and ask him to give you a wife or child or to cure you, this is beyond that persons capability. I hope you get this now inshaAllah

MashaAllah nice and useful debate.
anyone who watched the whole debate can clearly see that Abdul rahman changed his opinion during the debate a couple of time- (not just once, many times) !!!!
Asrar Rashid achieved all he wanted and did much better than abdul rahman. Both had deep knowledge in Islam but for anyone who is objective will come to the conclusion that the arguments of Asrar Rashid were much stronger-
Alhamdulillah Asrar is gem ✌️✌️✌️

Act of istighasa to dead is bidah, not shirk. It becomes shirk when the one called upon is believed to create independent actions.
Finally! Some sense and reason. We can argue whether it's Bid'āh or Mustāhab. But it can never be Shirk as long as it's done with the belief that Allāh ﷻ is the one who creates the action.
You've described the aqidah of mushrik Arabs.

Salaam.
I have to commend you brother Dilly for a job well done! I thought you moderated the debate perfectly. You were impartial and assertive when you had to be. I was really impressed by the way you acquited yourself. Well done! :)
I agree with you that there are more urgent matters that require our attention but like you said if this type of controversy is inhibiting progress and dividing the ummah then perhaps it is worth discussing. After all the last thing we need is another mawlid debacle. Its better to discuss differences in the form of debates than to publish videos denouncing one another on social media.
As for the debate itself.... I wasn't really impressed. Perhaps my not being a scholar meant I couldn't appreciate the subtle evidences that were presented..or maybe the debate was actually rather poor? Or perhaps both? In any case I did detect a lot of fallacious appeals to emotion, straw man arguments, evocative language, non sequiturs, prevarication and on several occasions Ustadh Abdul Rahman resorted to poisoning the well strategies as well as audacious attempts to pontificate to the audience. Not to mention the asinine attempts to undermine Shaykh Asrar's credibility by correcting his Arabic pronunciation!
Its a shame one side didn't agree with your introduction Dilly. I can guess which side that is..It just goes to demonstrate how provincial the sectarian mind can become! Just to reiterate I am neither a salafi nor barelwi I am Maliki. So I hope no one interprets this as an indictment of one side or the other.
Once again well done Dilly :)
The tawheed aspect of religion everyone knows what it is, its about ego flex.
@@Nihari56
Was Sumayya, the first martyr of Islam, a poor and illiterate woman of low social rank who had been a slave, whom Allah granted janna, aware of all the various fine scholastic points developed in later centuries by various madhhabs?
The Apostle of Allah simply taught her that the idols are false and there is only one deity and that is Allah. And that he is the messenger of Allah.
She was ready to die for this and she did. She died on pure and clear and simple tawhid, sufficient to grant her janna, which is that there is only one deity over everything and you must devote yourself to Him even unto death.
Whoever has the tawhid of Sumayya has sufficient tawhid. Remember that. Do not complicate the religion of Allah and do not suggest that heaven and hell hangs in the balance on any of these abstract scholastic disputes.
@@Nihari56
Maybe if you calm down and not assume that your interlocutor is ignorant just because they have a criticism, you will better understand what is being said.
"Do not complicate tawhid" does not mean "tawhid is not important".
"Do not complicate tawhid" does not mean "there is something more important than tawhid."
So what does it mean?
It means that tawhid is so clearly expressed in the Qur'an, anyone can understand it.
الله لا اله الا هو
Allah! There is no deity but He
He alone is absolutely supreme in everything. Power, knowledge, justice, mercy. Everything else is an utterly dependent created slave and Allah is its sole and supreme creative Master.
It is so simple that even an illiterate poor slave woman Sumayya in the 7th century pagan jahili Arabia can hear, understand, believe and die for.
@@Nihari56
I have no control over your feelings, brother/sister. But a person's feelings do not dictate what is a good or bad understanding of tawhid.
It really isn't for you to tell me what tawhid is or for me to tell you what tawhid is. Or any scholar for that matter.
The Prophet had a duty to clearly recite the verses of Allah which guide us to true tawhid. And he - peace be upon him - did. It is for both of us to look into the Qur'an and recite those verses, believe in them and act accordingly.
Sumayya - whom Allah has granted janna - did not need a scholar to tell her how to understand the tawhid of the Qur'an. She heard, believed and acted. And died a martyr.
There is no extra "parts" of tawhid "etc" outside the clear text of the Qur'an.
@@Nihari56
This language of "fard/pillars/nullifiers" is a later scholastic construct. The language of the Qur'an and Sunna is adequate. Indeed, because tawhid is the most essential, it is clearly and sufficiently stated in the Word of Allah.
@@Nihari56
You need to give me actual sahih hadith saying tawhid has 3 pillars from someone living from the first 3 generations for me to believe you. Otherwise, it's just a late belief projected onto earlier times.
In a realistic note, debate or not as Muslims we should stand together. Whether it being sunni or salafi. Differences aside promote and spread the things we do agree on. We're making a joke on Islam
This is a ridiculous statement never will a person upon tawheed stand with a a person who openly promotes shirk
Ahlul bidah was clearly defeated. May Allah guide them.

those who convey the messages of Allah and fear Him and do not fear anyone but Allah And sufficient is Allah as Accountant

a frivolous mass-debate! how nice
Whoever sees these typ of people [as Adnan Rashid and his likes] as Muslims, brothers in faith and Muwahhidin [those who single Allah out in worship] then they themselves are Kuffaar, because of Takdhib an-Nas [denial of the text which clearly states that whoever does a worship to other then Allah then he is a Kaafir].
This is a Takfir al-'Amm:
Whosoever, after the Hujjah [proof] is brought, DOES NOT make Takfir on the likes of Asrar Rashid [Mushrik Murtadd Kaafir] and give him excuses, then HE HIMSELF IS A KAAFIR.
Allaah says:
{وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا}
"And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah"[72:18]
Don't do takfeer over people so easily. Your extreme views is truly nothing but evil. Our Prophet salallau alhi wa salaam warned us against the Khawarij- who are the dogs of hellfire
Pure najdi/isis scum.
wow anyone who dosen't follow your views is kafir. subhanAllah. would this be the attitude of Muhammad saw? legit leave aside diffrences and just unite. be understanding not arrogant. just becuase you have one way of understanding, dosen't mean you don't listen to the other side. let go of the ego. how do you know if YOU are not kafir for making that statement, and that you won't sis a kafir?
