It’s the car Mat’s been waiting for oh-so-long to test drive, but will it be worth the wait? Well in this in-depth review, he’ll be taking you over every inch of this new luxury limousine to see whether it has what it takes to compete with its predecessors.
When it comes to performance, we already know it’s packing a number of petrol, diesel and hybrid options. For our UK viewers, our petrol options are currently topped off by the S500, which is a 3-litre straight-six turbo that can produce 435hp. But if you’re after more power, you’ll want to choose the hybrid S580e, where the 3-litre straight-six is joined by an electric motor to produce 510hp! But if we're being honest, we’re all waiting for the upcoming AMG S63, which will have a twin-turbo V8 and be able to put down over 600hp!
So performance is all well and good, but let’s face it, you’re all probably more excited by the interior! But will it live up to its high expectations? In 12-13 years you would need to stay far away from this car. The electricals will be shot and nothing will work.
I will assume that you wont be able to buy this car at that time ether, it will be toasted. I replaced everything on my W205 220d except the engine electronics, and that car is from 2015, although not gonna lie this OM651 is bullet proof. not as good as the old OM646 i had on my vito van but at least it burns much cleaner. My car is medium speced, very nice car tho

the 6th gen is definately the one i love, i think they made the lights way more luxurious. also the taillights of this 7th gen, I've tried to appriciate it. but if you are driving behind it on the highway, it doesn't look modern at all, at least not for the year and price.

The W222 6th gen S-Class is definitely my favourite S-Class. I think most people agree that it had the perfect styling inside and out, and that it just had a certain presence that the S-Class is meant to have.

Choosing which S class I like most is: 4 and 6 (4 because my parents owned one a couple of decades ago and it was the only S we ever owned, it was one crazy car for it’s time), and then the 6th generation because it was pretty hard to outdo the 5th in design but they absolutely nailed it, when it first came out I couldn’t believe how good it looked.
The 5th is timeless. Even now in 2024 buying one for 60k with almost 100k miles and it still looks like it came out in 2019

With their current reliability might be sooner 😂

The best thing is that with the few parts that have failed, the replacement has been upgraded and never failed a second time.
Their AHU diesel engine was a gem, on one of our cars it ran for more than 300.000 miles on it's well matched clutch. 90% of my driving was in London traffic. The car never broke down, perhaps because I am a chartered engineer and I maintained it myself.

!❣ Love the back seat foot rest, wireless charging pad and blocking the sun features. Lovd the heated or chil cup holders, seat beat feature and the massage feature for the seats. Now, all I have to do is find a truck with all these cool features. 😁

I'd love to see how tight a turn I could make in my Chevy Spark if I had rear wheel steering like that.
Edit- actually, I drove a Toro lawn tractor as a kid...the real steering thing is being able to have the left side do one thing and the right go the other way. Combine that with independent stearing and you can nearly just spin in place.

just test drove one today. lovely car, the only thing that still bugs me is how cheap the flush door handles felt. if I were ever to get it (probably once they start coming off the lease terms, I ll def. get one with regular door handles...
Being a software engineer I can kind of think of how they might have designed an algorithm for that parking and augmented thing, just pure incredible true engineering. hats off to to those engineers...

I'd love to see a comparison of the whenever most recent S-Class versus a Rolls in terms of luxury and ride quality... Rolls are obviously quite famed for their wofting, but from the comments on the S-Class, it sounds like Mercedes has really been catching up on that front.
The exterior design looks much better in person. The ride and drive are both improved. The dual screen layout is a step backwards for this series both aesthetically and in functionality . The center touch touch screen takes your eye off of the road to operate while you search for a menu or try something as simple changing the radio channel. It also takes away from the comfort experience because the ergonomics of the touchscreen are just far enough away from the user to make the driver move his driving position to operate it. The center console takes away the armrest for your forearm as well as reduces the cup holders size and its made from plastic instead of wood.The touch screen stays covered in fingerprints and the fingerprint id is an extra step that gets annoying on a daily basis. The touch screen is also hard to see at times with the suns reflections. The new air vents sit high and away from the driver and cause a distracting reflection on the windshield. The ride,drive, and seats are outstanding , but the electronics make it very frustrating to operate.

There was just something about the 5th generation S and E classes. They really stood out even to date. Now everything is starting to look similar, not only across models but even brands.
5th gen S class had that posh look that let you know it's clearly more expensive than the others, this generation looks generic, or maybe the cheaper cars have gotten better
I love the tech. We ordered a long wheelbase and a regular, but we're keeping our 2019 and 2020 because my wife and I love the looks. The appearance of the 2021, interior and exterior, leaves much to be desired. Our driver will love the tech, though.

Even though i love them all 1st (W116) 2nd (W126) and the 4th (W220) are my favorites, the W116 and W126 because i love old cars, the Quality and Solid engineering on them is amazing and i love the styling and the overall feel of the cars, I like the W220 also because it's style and the elegance of the car is just so nice, also the technology for it's age was amazing.

Matt Hello, my vote goes to the 6 Gen, its stunning. Of course when i was a kid that was the era of the Gen 1 and certainly when Gen 2 rolled around, it was super nice. But overall, even i did not like this current one much, except for the tech. Thank you so much for the content.

W126 and W220 most elegant, shame the w220 is made from chocolate. This new one is the worst looking by some margin.

This isn't designed to be bought and kept long term, you're supposed to lease for 36 months then dump it back to the dealers to avoid the maintenance nightmares

The second generation was the most attractive. Very upright, proper, large grill and headlights, and very formal looking. Perfect car for grandma and grandpa.
I loved 3rd gen S class AKA the bear. It had such presence on the road in the days where cars usued to be smaller and here comes that beast. Everyone was turning heads. It is one of the greatest cars ever made in my opinion. It was proper gangsta like the old G class.

i think i remember on another video, cant rem which car it was, but they said youtube stopped supporting it. idk why youtube would take it out but googles known to introduce useful features and then just take it away.
Also comments count as a metric for audience engagement, so more ad money for carwow from RUclips

Perhaps, but I feel like it appears later in the video too. I've had brand new high value cars where the entire drivers door is misaligned. I know it would be less likely on a press car but quality issues abound with all expensive vehicles. I have stories, many many stories!
Noticed this too, whole trunk is crooked, drivers side is lower than the other. And rear door seems to be little bit off too.
