      @@VinceVenturella The problem is, the year before last, I went through a phase of accumulating plastic and resin. I have A LOT of models to paint - 30k Marines, 40k Guard, and more Genestealers than I can really justify. If I wanted to sell off any of these piles of shame, I think I'd probably move on the Space Marines, the Mk3 and Mk4 have gone up in price since I collected them. I'm more interested in finishing off my Guard army and getting a Genestealer cult force done, since I'm really not bothered with learning the 7th ed HH rules.
      Hmm. Letting go of things isn't easy! I might just box up the Marine sprues and put them into stoorage.
      In any case, I've learnt my lesson - I won't start buying up another army until I've made enough headway with the other army projects and they are at a playable point where I can safely park any further development of them.

      It's always hard to say for sure. But I would say using these techniques, I could do 80-100 in a week, over maybe 10-20 hours. That might vary greatly, but keeping it to simple techniques and such a limited palette helps.

    Hey Vince! I've recently heard that tournaments often like you to put squad markings on your units to differentiate them on the field. What kind of markings would you use for Skaven? Would you paint one pack with red clothes, and maybe the other with green, and another with blue?
    Putting squad markings on the bases is a horrible idea, it completely messes with the piece. What would you do?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад

      Yep, your idea is exactly what I would do. Hold the rest of the colors the same and vary one item. So for me, for a unit of say Stormcast or something, I would vary the color on a shoulderpad (assuming they were identical otherwise and I wasn't just varying weapons - that's another way to go. With things like Clan Rats, there are multiple "hand weapon" options and you could always group that way too).
      I agree and hate markings on the base, so this is the easy solution. The army still looks coherent, but the units can be easily distinguished.

    • @VinceVenturella

  • @Mikey__R
    @Mikey__R 5 лет назад

    Hey Vince, I'm rewatching this video again. I often wonder, why you tend to choose black as the base colour for your prime / undercoat? Would it have been more efficient to have primed black, then go over 90% of this with a dark brown, like Burnt Umber or a dark rust, and then do the 50% zenithal of the sand colour from above? The grey looks a bit cold, so perhaps it would be a bit more work to warm it up to the fur colour with the second wash, than if you had started with a brown?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад +1

      In this case, I wanted to keep it simple, so I go with the standard zenithal (because it can still work). If I do different colors, then I first have to explain this different method, then explain why, then we add another 10 minutes on the video. In the end, the key is to combine the techniques I share in whatever ways you like.:)

    • @Mikey__R
      @Mikey__R 5 лет назад

      @@VinceVenturella there's definitely value in simplicity. I always come up with massively over complicated recipes, and I'm really not sure they add anything.

    Vince, I seem to recall you being more brush agnostic than you typically are with paint lines. At least, I don't remember you recommending W&N S7s over any other brand. That said, this is the first time I think I've seen you use a Raphael 8404. Personally, I adore the line and definitely prefer them to my W&N, DaVinci, and Warcolours Kolinsky brushes. What do you think of the 8404s, and what prompted the change?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад +1

      Just decided to give them a try and really liked them. I am pretty brush agnostic and still use my W&N S7, but I like these very much, they have a nice spring to them. In the end, it's something where there isn't really a best brush amongst all of these, but the best brush for you. Experimentation is always good.

    Hey Vince,
    What is the difference between the flow aid you use in this video and the glaze medium and the thinner medium you have used in other videos? Do they accomplish the same thing, or is there a specific reason you are using the flow aid for speed painting?
    Thanks for the videos, they are helping me improve a ton!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  4 года назад +1

      So flow improver makes paint flow more easily, it breaks the surface tension. It runs more easily in to the recesses, acting much like new contrast paints,
      Thinner does simply that, it things the overall effect of the paint, but it still coats evenly (theoretically), it weakens the color. Hopefully that helps.

    Im not too much of a fan of the modern(ish) clan rat models. However the stormvermin and most other models are lovely. I dont even play sigmar or FB but like collecting and painting rats. The old 80s and early 90s skaven have a very special place in my heart as they were some of the first minis I ever got from new in 1989. I pinced my dads barclaycard and ordered them out of a white dwarf my friend leant me and was grounded for a week but got to keep my rat ogers and other guys so was well worth it! Some of the old skavn look like they were the 'good guys' somehow I always thought as a kid. Some of them look so cute and friendly! • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 лет назад +1

      Well, non colors like grey are always tougher honestly. I have a tutorial on painting grey skin (ruclips.net/video/fsqiCsQg32g/видео.html) it uses a rat ogre, so I would say start with that. That being said, you want a little color in their, I would still use an ivory or a white grey and then use something like an agrax wash to create a little color. Hope that helps.
