    8:05 - I think we finally discovered something worse than an Ice Mage Black Mage, by which I mean, if they had at least just spammed Blizzard it would've been 180 potency B1s (Which is still terrible!), but instead the alternation like this meant the F1s that were cast were more like 162 Potency 😅
    14:00 - I am pretty sure they (The magitek bits in ARF) do still explode, but they are more lenient with time, and also the explosion is more about giving you a vuln stack than hurting you if I recall correctly from running the dungeon after its rework. I don't see them explode very much though on account of them being so easy to deal with!
    21:27 - That is quite hilarious that the NPCs just continue on. Is this the first case of an AoE Pull that is unfailable?
    22:10 - I didn't know you could arm's length the chain, nice to know! I've always just moved for it, because even if you get one of the front "portals"(?) if you place yourself juuuust right, I am pretty sure you can be far enough away from it, while still being in range to attack the boss. But this is way easier!
    Also to the outro, I am sure you don't need to be told this, but for every derp you meet that refuses any advice, I am sure there are several that appreciates it. All we can really do is focus on those that actually want the help! 😄

      @berThat guy was not just intentionally being bad. Take a closer look at the section with the rotation you uploaded. As far as I can tell, none of his casts actually completed. The bar goes away before being filled every time. Seems to me like he was actually intentionally not doing his job at all.

      @@johannesmuller6237 That's how it always looks. That's normal. However, what I didn't show was him eating my fruit there, was 100% intentional. So while he did intentionally kill me, he was still completing casts. Can even see MP moving.

    There was a time I was healing in AV and the returner tank would not stop standing in the acid pools in the first room and kept dying, even when I was spam healing. No matter how many times I tried explaining that standing in the acid was hurting them, they just cursed me out multiple times and a few wipes later they left. Then another tank came in and we cleared without any issues. This was during a moogle tome event so I was spamming AV all day and it was the only issue with a tank I had that day.
    I get that it can be embarrassing to acknowledge when you or someone else you know is wrong but it's very counterproductive. Good on you for being patient and being a proper mentor. Looking forward to the next video!

      I had a ninja in msq roulette that was using his mudras on doton on bosses. I told him doton is for aoe, raiton for singletarget. Then he went on to ONLY use doton on bosses, and ONLY raiton on aoe. After the instance was done, he walks up to me and places doton under me. Really hurt that dudes ego lmao

    Ascian Prime has a reputation as a noob killer because if someone doesn't fully understand how snapshotting works they'll take too long trying to avoid an already snapshotted Dualstar AoE ("The floor's all covered in ice! It must still be dangerous, right?") to position themselves to avoid the second one in time. Getting unlucky and having both a tank AND healer who don't get it (Or understand the tether mechanic, either) is a recipe for frustration, but it seems like the sprouts you had knew what they were doing so you had a smooth ride.

    • @mosselyn5081
      @mosselyn5081 8 месяцев назад +6

      That is literally the fight that really taught me the snapshotting thing, and I'd been playing for about 3 years by the time they rolled out the new fight. Like, I knew it on paper, but never really paid it much attention...until Dualstar.

    • @InnocentGuillotine
      @InnocentGuillotine 8 месяцев назад +4

      It also doesn't help if a player has a poor framerate, since that means they move slower even if they understand what's happening and if it's bad enough they can be juuuust slow enough that some combinations outright aren't avoidable. It's not a common issue, of course, most people having trouble just don't understand snapshotting, but it's one that does exist.

  • @steveh1474
    @steveh1474 8 месяцев назад +10

    the way the new ARF boss teaches stack marker THEN chains is actually genius. we know we should stack when chains are coming because they snap based on distance stretched, not distance between partners. if theyre already long chains, they dont have room to stretch, they cant snap. so force everyone to stack with a stack marker, then introduce chains, its perfect. good job, devs.

    This whole reward thing will never cease to be hilarious to me because I just don't understand why everything in FFXIV, from its players to the creators and the very ingame narrative, believes in this candyland world where mmo players suddenly engage with the content for reasons other than the proverbial carrot on the stick. Its insane.

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber  8 месяцев назад +16

      What zaq said basically. I would prefer the can icon, personally. I'd get the icon for the icon itself if it was a watering can, far more than a crown. I don't feel it being a crown in itself is much worse than it being something else. Though I might cover this topic later.

    • @FishSkeleton-
      @FishSkeleton- 8 месяцев назад +1

      I've heard that idea before but I don't think it's worth the change. Sure, people sometimes like the burger king crown icon itself, but it's more about what it represents that makes people want it: "I'm not some random noob, I'm experienced player."
      There's always going to be people who want to instantly receive the respect of being seen as a seasoned content veteran whether they're a good player or not, and other times you get people like me who know they're not good at the game but wanted to get mentor for mentor roulette itself, for variety when we're bored. Neither type of player will vanish simply because of an icon change, though I concede that some vain icon-focused players would stop using the crown, I just think those are a drop in the bucket compared to the variety-lovers and the clout-chasers.

I don't mind if someone ignores my advice or says they don't want it, but no need to be a total dick about it, either. You're right that the new ARF fight isn't hard in the grand scheme of things, but it is way more technical than all the boss fights in the prior dungeons. I love that new fight, but it is easily the most frequent sprout killer I see at that level range.

    Thanks for showing what a mentor is meant to be, someone who tries to help. Whatever other things motivate them, in the end there is someone with some intention to help. That AV run is what differentiates good mentors from the bad ones; good ones will keep trying and stick it out. I remember my first run through AV and was surprised at the jump in difficulty...such devastation! I enjoyed this episode and this series in general. Some laughs, some pains, some pointers, and trips down memory lane at dungeon I haven't seen in a while and mistakes I made when I was learning.

    4:17 That AV run......I always slow walk (RP walk) through the first room because the adds agro by sound instead of sight...except the toads. What happened in the boss room is literally the reason why I stand on top of the fruit just so that no one outright snags it...
    13:55 The turrets in Aetherchemical Research Facility do enrage....found that out a long time ago when the party I was in just focused the boss. Three of us survived, but one person got one-shotted...
    Also, you want to talk about Reaper being busted...look at Dancer...they get to walk around Sastasha with a 720 Potency nuke with Standard Step...

    Although its a different game with different systems of labelling, granblue fantasy relink has basically an "any content" roulette to backfill endgame players into queues for people progressing that rewards you with a currency exclusive to it that can be used as bad luck protection for bad item drops from the lategame bosses and stuff like that, xiv's gearing system kinda conflicts witht his but something more like this shows that rewards for roulettes like this can work.

    I spoke about this with my spouse and they said that one of the biggest issues with mentor roulette is that it's kind of a misnomer. The groups that you end up with aren't exactly looking for a mentor; they aren't necessarily looking to be taught; and this likely contributes to a lot of the non- or negative responses mentors get when they try to teach or instruct. We know the reality of it is that the mentor roulette is ultimately a queue filler, but it being named the way it is and given the requirements that it has leads to a number of false expectations about the way it ends up working in practice.
    As someone who's finished the grind, I definitely see their point. Not sure what would be the best way to address it though.

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber  8 месяцев назад

      Mentors exist outside the roulette though. Considering just the roulette misses the entire rest of the discussion. And there's still many more things to go over for it. I'll be saying much more on this in Ep5

    • @Philip027
      @Philip027 8 месяцев назад

      Oh, yeah, it isn't JUST a mentor roulette problem for sure, but I do think the roulette causes at least some people to apply those false expectations about what a mentor "should" be due to the way it's structured (as a generic queue-filler, rather than an appropriate backdrop for mentoring that's actually agreed upon by both mentor and mentee(s))
      The roulette is the primary activity of the game where a mentor is generally regarded to be "on duty" after all (to the point where the game itself forces you to have your crown icon on while you're doing it), and it seemed to me like most complaints about mentor behavior (whether justified or not) originate from the roulette too.
      It reminds me of the (thankfully very few) times where I landed in a HW+ extreme trial (not counting Rathalos because that shows up a lot for some reason), where once I was chastised for clearly knowing/remembering nothing about the fight. Like, bro, crown or not, you probably shouldn't expect random DF guy (which I still am, even with a crown on) to have an 8 year old ex trial down by heart. Some people seem to honestly think that just because it's a mentor roulette requirement, people running that roulette should be experts at all of it. Ain't gonna happen.

    I'm still in my first year of playing 14 and sometimes it feels like I know more than the mentors I encounter half the time and many seem to be quite rude. I had one accuse me of using a bot while going through a dungeon because I wasn't talking and instead paying attention to mechanics in the dungeon I'd never done before. Their attitude never changed and before they left they said "if you're going to use bots make it less obvious" as if they didn't wipe the party multiple times because they didn't know how to use their cooldowns and I kept getting the healer back up and attempting to dps enough to help the healer out. All that mentor earned that day was a report which is still the only time I've reported someone.
    I've found alliance raids you have 2 roulette which raid you get and what kind of mentors you'll get. Luckily it seems they tend to be more nice in raids compared to 8 man or dungeons, even making some rough runs fun and enjoyable despite wipes. When we had a mentor DRG pulling mobs and the bone dragon causing 2 wipes then screaming at us healers "where were the heals??" I've never seen every healer turn and look at a single person so fast and then rip into them, he fed himself to the wolves, mentors and sprouts alike teamed up against that one drg. He screamed the rest of that raid and no one cared it was a bunch of jokes in chat and it remains one of the funniest runs I've experienced. "PULL THEM AWAY" "shut up you lived"

    Oh gosh, so many things to talk about... I'll probably comment twice or thrice to not mix so much different subjects.
    I often stop and think that it's not always an bad aurum vale run, but when it's a bad run, its often aurum vale.
    Maybe it's because it's that close to the end of arr and people have usually cleared 2.0 when that happens.
    I had a terrible episode with a tank and a healer during the first pull, which the tank complained to a point that "the healer was not healing properly on purpose" and after that pulled the first boss 2 times without getting emmity.
    After the tank was kicked out i was tryin to give pointers to the healer until the next one queued in. We may have passed by half the time of the duty when we got the clear.

    One thing i have absolutely zero patience for is when someone is clearly playing poorly and hurting the progression of the duty on purpose, not because of a lack of knowledge.

Your Aurum Vale run gave me flash backs to a Sohm Al run...Bad DPS...both stood in AOEs, never dodged. Neither took ANY advice I was giving or said anything. We wiped at last boss only cause I got stuck in a certain mechanic and the DPS, of course, wouldn't do anything to free me (Nor the tank) before it killed me. Thankfully the second time I didn't get picked so I was able to free the DPS to they could go back to pressing their 2-3 buttons or whatever they were doing... The tank did the absolute bare minimum but at least dodged AOEs. Rare time I didn't comm anyone.

    That very first run you did, I have dealt with on so many occasions. One even got mad that I told the tank to please pay attention to what they were doing only to find our that they were distracted typing in their FC chat which is why they were dying so quickly when they did their pulls. Healers have cool downs and it makes it hard for us to keep up if they don't do their job. The group proceeded to tell me to just do my job and heal. No offense but if I'm doing the work and they aren't, well then they aren't getting healed. We can only do it for so long before just letting them die because of their own mistakes. I do, do my job. Everyone else needs to as well instead of having a conversation in another chat. That and other healers I have ran with in extremes, raids, etc. They seem to just give up on healing, raising, everything. I waste so much mana more now then I did at a lower levels.
