I managed to get that 8 man guildhest once in my grind for Astrope. I dead ass forgot there even was an 8 man guildhest, so imagine my confusion loading into that thing, thinking "what the hell is this?"
Z, I feel ya, man. It wasn't easy to make life easy for everybody. But where we can, we can and do a little something about it. When I wear the crown, i almost always play dps, coz that way i can skip and loaf a little bit, and do the mentoring. But when I play tank or healer, no can do. Rotation and doing the mechanics above all, or... i die, you die, everybody dies. LMAO. to me, the crown symbolized something more than just getting the awesome mount. It's a testament of your undying love for the game that have captures millions of hearts the world over. Giving it a bad name is like shitting in my cup of hot chocolate and drink it afterward. I got 2K+ days of subscribed time. All the long timers know what that means.
Had a run of Great Hunt EX at the time of writing this, actually. I joined in late as I'm sure I took the place of someone with less fortitude. Three mentors, one sproutless SMN. We wiped time after time, but we kept going. I'd had plenty of experience doing this before--lead plenty of newcomers to victories before. This wasn't one of those successes sadly. Our SMN was struggling hard. We gave them every bit of advice we could; avoid their front, use Mega Potion duty action when you need healing during the flying phase, you can take the stacks solo as long as you use your Mega Potion, etc. At times, they were so engaged, they'd forget to summon their carbuncle or run right at the boss and pull it instantly between wipes... their damage was low--they hardly found time to cast when they were able. It was clear they weren't ready for this--no tricks or tips could make up for it--they needed more time and practice familiarizing themselves with their kit--let alone the fight. I'm not one to try and explain someone's entire kit to them during duties--that's better suited in front of a training dummy. I keep it to myself and do my best to help out where I can. Regardless, we pressed on--and eventually, without a word, they left. Another mentor is pulled in and we finish the fight fairly quickly. We chatted for a bit before leaving--mostly about feeling bad that we weren't able to help the SMN get their win, but agreed that they didn't seem like they were really ready for it--and hopefully they at least learned something about the mechs. "Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after." Sometimes people expect a lot more from mentors--and I can't say I blame em. Everybody's just a player at the end of the day. Good mentors can teach you plenty from what they know--maybe not all of it at once in an EX or what-have-you. But like many will say, and they're right, they don't pay your sub; it's up to you to put in the time and effort necessary to improve and accomplish what you set out to do on your journey. I just hope that when failure does happen you'll still be able to have fun, y'know? "Thou must live, die, and know."
you are good guy... or gal.. you tried, and that point it is on sprout - as sprout myself - you cannot be carried too much.. on other side i need to said that i have several years of high mythic keys in WoW - so i understand how classes works, how skills should be chained, evade to stuff, but sometimes not knowing the boss and he is watching you... menacingly just callculate too late and get hit, but i think over year i met only one person who was angry about not me knowing mechanic - you tried a lot, dont be sad about it - it is also good feeling when the sprout finally catch on - i spammed lot of Shiva Extreme ... bcs i love the music - and when group get the mechanic of Bow it just feels so good
If a lot more people had this understanding, both mentors and sprouts, I believe us mentors that take that crown a little more seriously than most, would be given a lot more respect about what what we actually do. Of course, there’s the bad eggs, but those bad eggs can ruin it for those that are actually willing to help and stick around to do so. I really just hope that the huge amount of newer players we have coming into the game soon, have the chance to meet mentors like us that are willing to try our best to get their clear in older content. Seeing 5+ yellow clear text in the chat log makes my heart smile every single time. I’m certainly not a content genius, but I can say that one of the biggest reasons I still play this damn game is from the feeling I get when someone clears what they consider something difficult. I have a lot of good memories helping sprouts in mentor roulette, very few bad ones. I feed off the excitement… and that’s why I still do this shit.
Can I just say, as a sprout who has the occasional braindead moment (mostly from panicking in the heat of the moment) I weirdly really appreciate these vids? Like I know mentors have got to be frustrated with me when I wander into an aoe or noticeably fuck up my rotation, or QUEUE INTO AN EX VIA DUTY FINDER WHOOPS but this humor helps me feel like it's more "ah, goddamn sprouts :T" than pure annoyance. Also this is a great What Not To Do guide
yeah it shouldnt be truly nothing else but helping sprouts the best you can with the mount being the goal too yeah but to achieve it without actually preforming your mentor duty in some positive way is just meh to me. Like the btchn/sighing, emotes, vote abandon etc. Especially with how that roulette works with pulling in fresh people/newer players in. I got mine completed in 2017 so yeah, definitely had the experience with seeing how bad mentors were with the sprouts. so yeah there's mentors out there with the best intentions too. doesnt have to be "goddamn sprouts"
I blame Cure 1 on the devs. They KNOW the additional effect is a trap, and people shouldnt use cure 1 after getting cure 2 yet they still keep it after all this time. Remove the additional effect, and have cure 1 be upgraded to cure 2 instead of them being two different abilities
i'm still leveling ninja, so i didn't know that about doton (being a dps loss on a single target). thanks for teaching me something! :) congrats on the achievement (also wait that spot for the heretic's forks in malikah's well is god tier hang on-)
@@불행이뒤따른다 Not in EW, and even in ShB it's extremely close because the doton takes an extra mudra, so wasn't really worth trying. Nowadays it's a straight loss no matter what.

17:50 I love how Ramuh EX is in the background for this. There's only so many ways I can explain to a tank sprout that they need to grab **3 ORBS** and not one more. If they can't count to 3, I'm afraid they can't be helped. Walls of text won't help if people either ignore what you say or can't do the most basic tasks.
Yeah being a Mentor just means you take accountability of a whole when others refuse to learn a fight on their own time. It's shitty and there should be more rewards for Mentoring.
There ought to be a big flashing red sign that says "THIS CONTENT IS OPTIONAL AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT" whenever you queue for your first extreme trial. Also I swear I have never done Nabriales in one try ever in my 2,000 hours. Even if I mention before the fight to save the LB, DPS sees three shiny bars and goes "ook"
I've been healing in this game since 2.0. That cure 1 spam segment disheartened me into the deepest, darkest sigh I've ever breathed. Perfect song choice.
12:25 I'll see you 'SMN carrying ARR weapon in a StB dungeon' and raise you: * RPR in Dancing Plague wearing level 46 dungeon gear. * PLD in Grand Cosmos with HW dungeon drops as gear. * GNB in Bardam's Mettle (pre-Trust Bardam's where wearing Augmented Shire would get you spanked) wearing the starting GNB gear and healing accessories * DRK in Aglaia wearing a level 80 NQ sword, level 83-85 gear and Abyssos Savage accessories. This one is the worst for me because their excuse was 'I couldn't get a better sword', when MSQ literally pauses before the final area so you can get free level 89 weapons and armour from Tataru.
This was a whole experience! Took me back when I completed mine 3 years ago ;_; absolute roller-coaster of emotions lol, Grats on the mount fellow Astrope-rider!
As a ninja player, been flipping around on Single Target Doton for a while. It's the closest thing to a DoT Ninja has, but yeah, resources could go towards Raitons. Will take this to heart for future Ninja play, thank you Mentor Sensei!
The issue is that almost all DoTs in FFXIV tick every 3 seconds (with the exception of MCH Flamethrower that ticks every second for some reason), so Doton's single target potency is basically 80 x 6 ticks = 480 potency IF the enemy stands in it the entire duration vs Raiton's 650 upfront potency, so under no single target circumstance is Doton a damage gain especially after they removed prepull Doton + Hide tech. It's a bit of a noob trap because the 3 second tick system isn't explained or intuitive, so I understand why people make the mistake (every other job in the game wants to apply DoTs if they have one), but it's also a good reminder that looking up a text guide for 5 mins can avoid a lot of mistakes when learning a new job
Yeah, I saw in another video that it apparently WAS a little more potency than Raiton in the past, but yeah, not upfront. It's sort of a unique thing with Ninja's abilities and the Mudra. My DRK brain sort of associated it as similar to Salted Earth, but then as I thought on the Mudra logically, you ALWAYS have a choice for that, but it's a choice. It's a resource using ANY ninjutsu. When you think of that as another "meter" of sorts, you become a bit more self-conscious about that. Which is why despite the complexity of Ninja, it's basically my favorite Melee DPS at the moment.
You are the mentor that we all should strive to be. I generally do my roulettes on WHM, as I would rather have a sprout tank than a sprout healer. No mit is usually more survivable than no heals, and I'm not very good at tanking anyway. The cure 1s I saw today hurt me. They always do. My condolences. And congratulations on your mount!
Yeah, doing this as a healer is the equivalent of "I'm not getting paid enough to do this"... Yeah... I'm that healer. If you want to preserve your sanity, go dps.
6:52: I started last year as a WAR but as someone who's DPS main is NIN, it kills me seeing that in dungeons and alliance raids. I haven't even beaten Stormblood yet and I'm still seeing that STD(Single Target Doton) everywhere. Least I have a new idea for a macro🤷 Edit: 10:14 - this is why i single pull that specific section
Psst... THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR. THERE ARE LINES ON THE FLOOR.
Idk what dungeon was with sofa fire, but i really hoped some explained to them. Reminded me of that Qarn dungeon where doom debuff can be cleansed via orange tablet
Ok so about the doton thing, like sometimes I just miss input and decide to get the extra dot damage. I'm still learning but it's better to do some damage from a miss input than zero for bunny mudra.
One way to think about it is the number of mudras, there are only 3 x 3 mudra combos - Huton (gcd reduction buff), Doton (aoe dot) and Suiton (every minute to set up trick attack). If you are doing Raiton, Katon or Hyosho, you should only be tapping 2 mudras. I personally set up my Mudras in the Ten-Chi-Jin order, not just because that's the order you get them during levelling, but also because it facilitates remembering the combos for the 3-mudra ninjutsu. Suiton is Ten-Chi-Jin (left to right), Huton is Jin-Chi-Ten (right to left), so that leaves Doton as the only "weird" outlier since it ends on Chi, basically just hit the left and right in any order you prefer then hit Chi in the middle. Hope this helps.
this video is so fascinating and terrifying at the same time. i see a lot of twitter people complain 'make alliances harder' cause they get mad they cant use their full healer kit or something. but they just don't realize how low the bar is sometimes. 😭
This one time i went for repairs in the quicksand (ULDAH) but i accidentally clicked the NPC next to him and he started speaking about offering me a mentor role and i nearly had a heart attack!
Congratulations, it’s one of the more difficult grinds in this game. Takes lots of patience, endurance, and mental fortitude. But you definitely earned it. Great job!
A lot of mentors will leave experts or level 90 dungeons bc one or both of them don't give penalties for immediately leaving. They bail to have another queue instead of doing a dungeon for 10-15 min. I just suffer through shit I don't wanna do bc at least I can say I didn't cheese my mentor roulettes at all.

@@shawnscouten5184 Well if I'm doing my roulettes and someone insta leaves I'd certainly be annoyed. But I'm not using DF for EX trials in the first place so that would never affect me.
Most mentors start out bright and hopeful thinkning they will restore the mentor name, but in the end, we all get broken by the roulette
Oh gosh, this is giving me PTSD... But thx for the content, I really hope you´ll be able to rest after all this suffering
The butt clenches when you see an 8-man duty come up and you don't know if it's a synced EX or the 8-man guildhest.
And the additional butt clench when you see a 4-man duty come up and it's the Great Hunt EX instead of Bockman.
I managed to get that 8 man guildhest once in my grind for Astrope. I dead ass forgot there even was an 8 man guildhest, so imagine my confusion loading into that thing, thinking "what the hell is this?"
@@KazgrelI went through all the Guildhests one time. Even I forgot there was a full 8-man at the end.
Edit: And I remember some useless things.
5:00 lol, even the RDM was trying to help and it wasn't enough
I really like how you edit your videos. So funny and spot on. I hope you continue to make more of these!
love the editing, love the jojo part 4 reference and the usage of the DRG soundtrack :D very cool
Cure
In Troia
A dungeon that doesnt hit for shit and makes me fall asleep as a healer (sage)
Truly a df experience.
"Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after."
Sometimes people expect a lot more from mentors--and I can't say I blame em.
:) congrats on the achievement
(also wait that spot for the heretic's forks in malikah's well is god tier hang on-)
most of skills which are AoE are not worth it if they are not off global cooldown:)
@@poro9084 doton is a dps gain depending on the time the target is in the aoe
@@불행이뒤따른다 Not in EW, and even in ShB it's extremely close because the doton takes an extra mudra, so wasn't really worth trying. Nowadays it's a straight loss no matter what.
"no thoughts, only dosis," as a sage main, i feel that to my core tho T_T
Grats on the grind my dude! Less than 2% of mentors finish that. Truly an elite mentor
I've started watching your video around when I started farming for the mount, got it yesterday and so happy to see you got it too lately, big gz on the achievement and thx for sharing the pain with all of us
something about the cure 1 crits tickles me to death in the cure montage. it's still cure 1 but harder lmao
What a beautiful end to the trilogy. Thank you for your sacrifice and the many laughs you gave us along the way.
Although I don't understand shit, the edits alone are enough to make me laugh 🤣
17:50
I love how Ramuh EX is in the background for this.
There's only so many ways I can explain to a tank sprout that they need to grab **3 ORBS** and not one more. If they can't count to 3, I'm afraid they can't be helped. Walls of text won't help if people either ignore what you say or can't do the most basic tasks.
I nearly choked hearing that fuckin' "OH NO" bootleg spy line from that sonic racing game.
Yeah being a Mentor just means you take accountability of a whole when others refuse to learn a fight on their own time. It's shitty and there should be more rewards for Mentoring.
There are, you get a roulette for mentors only and there's a mount for doing mentor roulette enough times.
I never knew how chaotic Mentor roulette was until this.
21:00 Using LD to soak all those orbs is such a chad move.
4:08 general PSA if he's in lightning (sky is purple) DO NOT KILL THE WATER BALLS. They bait the lightning for you so this doesn't happen.
i've watched this video so many times and i still laugh when i see it. omg you're the best hahaha
I've been healing in this game since 2.0. That cure 1 spam segment disheartened me into the deepest, darkest sigh I've ever breathed. Perfect song choice.
Glad I'm not the only one who says hi or salutes the Knight's Memory every time you go in there. I always /salute.
more than a year later and this video singlehandedly saved my overall dps when leveling ninja, thank you
12:25 I'll see you 'SMN carrying ARR weapon in a StB dungeon' and raise you:
* RPR in Dancing Plague wearing level 46 dungeon gear.
* PLD in Grand Cosmos with HW dungeon drops as gear.
* GNB in Bardam's Mettle (pre-Trust Bardam's where wearing Augmented Shire would get you spanked) wearing the starting GNB gear and healing accessories
* DRK in Aglaia wearing a level 80 NQ sword, level 83-85 gear and Abyssos Savage accessories. This one is the worst for me because their excuse was 'I couldn't get a better sword', when MSQ literally pauses before the final area so you can get free level 89 weapons and armour from Tataru.
if you level through dungeons, which lot of tanks do - no wonder they wont have gearthough:(
this is the exact reason why i have a living dead macro for dungeons, 'cause no shot they ever gonna notice on their own
ggs on the achievement, well deserved !!
Gratz on the mount you deserve it and thank you for helping as much as you did in every mentor you did. You are a kind and wonderful soul!
This was a whole experience! Took me back when I completed mine 3 years ago ;_; absolute roller-coaster of emotions lol, Grats on the mount fellow Astrope-rider!
Thank you for your services, man. The path is not easy but at least hopefully someone thanked you on the way
As a ninja player, been flipping around on Single Target Doton for a while.
That single target Cure III unlocked the monster in the depths of my soul and it thirsts for blood.
4:33 Healers: "OMG Darkknight is to garbage for casual content!" also Healers:
love the music selections, quite the breakdown
You are the mentor that we all should strive to be.
I generally do my roulettes on WHM, as I would rather have a sprout tank than a sprout healer. No mit is usually more survivable than no heals, and I'm not very good at tanking anyway.
The cure 1s I saw today hurt me. They always do. My condolences. And congratulations on your mount!
I should have listened to the Ninja main message and skipped that part, I damn near threw up my lunch, shit was physically hurting me
Yeah, doing this as a healer is the equivalent of "I'm not getting paid enough to do this"... Yeah... I'm that healer. If you want to preserve your sanity, go dps.
you know how trippy it was watching this video while playing osrs and having osrs music suddenly pop on
The cure 1s in 90 content made me so violently angry like I had a physical revulsion from seeing that ahahah
devs make cure 1 turn into cure 2 im literally begging
6:52: I started last year as a WAR but as someone who's DPS main is NIN, it kills me seeing that in dungeons and alliance raids.
I haven't even beaten Stormblood yet and I'm still seeing that STD(Single Target Doton) everywhere. Least I have a new idea for a macro🤷
Edit: 10:14 - this is why i single pull that specific section
1:03 hey why aren't you getting in that sta- ohhhh there's two. oh noooooo
this whole saga was amazing to watch - grats on your mount :)
grats for the unicorn! Ilaughed and cried a lot watching this vod
6:48 set off my fight or flight. I don't even play NIN.
liking the vid because of the "pass the whiskey"
damn, i havn't heard that in a looong time
Psst...

Idk what dungeon was with sofa fire, but i really hoped some explained to them. Reminded me of that Qarn dungeon where doom debuff can be cleansed via orange tablet
Im just impressed at the amount of footage you got 😂
Holy shit that Sunken Temple strat I had no idea about until today. TYVM
5:00 that vercure tho xD
That rdm saw the despair
Gratz on the mount. I too am very close to getting this mount (only 191 away). It really is an experience to say the least.
As a fellow (undercover) mentor, seeing your vids gives me hope and also makes me feel bad. You're a far better person than me
**sees “elapsed time”** **has a panic attack**
I viscerally felt every single zoom in on a doton.
@Zanagoth I appreciate it but it's more my brain goes on autopilot and sometimes I just accidentally do the doton combo xD
I love the Fray "never give up" fragment
Ty Zanagoth. Another truly excruciating video.
Don't stop making these. Keep up the good work!
Your videos are the reason behind why I always keep hyper-potion stocked now LOL
That guy baiting the rathalos puddles take a closer look at what he's drawing 😂
wasn't even a good cock
I get it's mentor roulette but why tf are extremes even an option for that lmao.
i quess bcs it is from blue quest and you wont get the blue quest completed until you do the dungeon
this video is so fascinating and terrifying at the same time. i see a lot of twitter people complain 'make alliances harder' cause they get mad they cant use their full healer kit or something. but they just don't realize how low the bar is sometimes. 😭
/wow didn't notice you were a manra!, my heart grew 1 size -♡→.
Congrats on the mount!, hope the suffering was worth it.
14:08 a truly chad healer moment
Not being a mentor is the best decision I've ever made in this game
This one time i went for repairs in the quicksand (ULDAH) but i accidentally clicked the NPC next to him and he started speaking about offering me a mentor role and i nearly had a heart attack!
3:16 Had a fight with Lugus the other day with players who complained how hard the fight was so I just solo'd him as DRK lol
my god i need a clip of the NEVER GIVE UP bit ft all the gigachad tanks, that was so good
Huge congratulations on your 2000! 🎉 I'm on my final stretch now (350 to go!) but love seeing your content about it to keep me going 😁
Congratulations!!
that vercure at about 5:02 made me chuckle
Ngl I forgot you did all those warframe raid videos a while ago, and now you do ff14 videos. Keep it up man :)
the arms length clips made me realise how much i crave for this serotonim, how many time i've been left alone after AKB ?
4:58 God Im surprised you didnt point out that vercure from god's bravest RDM trying so hard to cover for your WHM thats so funny
Can't wait for the Dawntrail continuation to this achievement chain, it's time for it square.
I just started my mentor roulette journey so this is an inspiration to just keep chugging at it. GGs
This is why I love mentor roulette.
