- There are so many options you can roll on Final Fantasy XIV's mentor roulette, yet somehow it always drags me back into old Heavensward hard dungeons that I barely remember. Join me for another week of failing old content while pretending to help sprouts.

The reason Dusk Vigil is so common in DF is that it's the first levelling dungeon of HW, BUT! it is NOT part of the MSQ, so there's no duty support, so new sprouts have no choice but to do it via the Duty finder.
Also, it's required if you want to unlock flight in the Western Highlands

@@shinyemptyhead Shisui has been the third most common leveling roulette dungeon in the past year for me. Copperbell was most common, followed by Stone Vigil. Obviously, not the biggest sample size, but just goes to show that personal experiences vary.

The Lahabrea edits in Porta Decumana are my favorite parts of these videos. I know this probably qualifies as a curse but I sincerely hope you keep getting it every couple of weeks.

@@Caittus It only requires clearing all normal, hard and extreme content? Then he just has to clear that on the launch week before the first reset, easy.

A comment on the black mages standing out in Narnia:
The thaumaturge quests teach you to stand as far away as possible (if you actually read the quest text)
so the game itself is teaching this bad behavior
On the other hand, half the point of the THM quests, from what I remember, was that the guildmasters were bad examples and generally cowardly. And you were much better than them by virtue of the fact that you weren't.
@@Loyle_Tyeah, I think this went over his head. Sprouts are in Narnia because their playing range and on most mmos that's correct,but not in FF.
tbh the reason i stay away, is because bosses like to drop the orange juice right under then, more often than around then
so that way i dont need to stop casting to move
I dont care, im still moving if I am on blm, I always dread playing on the same party with a blm when I am a whm, if they die after I give them regen, they can wait for a res if the tank needs help.
Dont get me wrong, If they die because I didnt get to them fast enough, I use quickcast & ressurect to bring them back up & then give them regen & medica II regen as a way of saying, I will keep you alive this time.
I also save benediction for the times it comes in handy like during mob pulls or during boss fights, its usually for the tank or the dps, rarely for myself.
If you move as BLM, you risk losing your TOP DPS spot, so always cast from max range (There is a reason why WHM got a gap closer in DT)
The black omen elevator from Chrono Trigger. Several fights back to back, and at the end you'll see a sparkle that normally signifies an item, but if you check it, you get sent back up the elevator and have to do the fights all over
I have racked my brain for at least 10 minutes and I can't think of a single one that can top that.

Also: At least one of the encounters on that elevator is a set of three of those color-coded imp guys, who each absorb all elemental attacks except one, and they're all different. Most characters will have no way to damage more than one of them at a time.
Did I mention that there's more than one elevator like that in there? I would definitely nominate the *second* of those elevators specifically because not only is it all that stuff to deal with, but it feels unnecessary because they already did it.
Glad I saw someone else mentioned it. The real issue is that it's an amazing farming area leading to most people hitting it with a half functioning team.

Must have been a funny sight to see the achievement pop up for the party, after their healer was standing in every single aoe he could find.

As for Elevator in video games ... it's not about the battle, but the fact that Elevators in Fallout 4 were hiding the loading screens, making them load for sooo ... looong ...
They're a lot more common on tank/DPS. They still show up for healer, but a lot of the time the people queuing will do so as a healer, with a healer buddy or both.
I've heard they're more common if you turn on the option to join a duty in progress, if you aren't already doing that
I got 3 of them yesterday. 2 Odin and an in-progress Ultima. I was on GNB and I load in mid-pull to see the other sprout tank already at 3 stacks of Aetheroplasm debuff, so I'm like "welp, we're doing this. I'm the MT now".
Still faster than the unpatched Mass Effect 1 elevators.
Worst elevator segment? Defini- TELL ME, FOR WHOM DO YOU FIGHT?

The ONLY reason I ever play that dungeon is when theres a moogle tome reward.
It gives 7 each time & thats the most out of all the early dungeons.
If you think about it, the ultima weapon is half an elevator fight, a 20 000 miles deep elevator but elevator nonetheless
because of this channel everytime i hear the world shall tremble in game i start giggling.
"Dear diary, It's week five and my motivation to mentor has reached the level of standing in the AoE.

This series has unironically convinced me to do mentor once im finished with the msq. I’m new and I love all the help I’ve been getting from the community. Keep in mind that you need enough commendations to actually become a mentor (1500 currently?), and you need to clear every Extreme up through the previous expansion. Currently that's Shadowbringers, but Endwalker EXs join the list at the end of June.

You also need a large amount of instanced duties under your belt. One of my alts is just missing that for mentor certification

As a Black Mage I just want to say, not moving ever for anything is the real primary rotation. We don't move until we absolutely need to, and even then we gotta think about it for a few seconds.
The Relic Shields for Paladins have a good Shield to Lalafell coverage percentage.
Recently started FFXIV....I'm addicted to your videos now. I legit sleep to the ones ive already seen like three times a week.
The portrait system is less confusing once you realize it's not a snapshot of your character but a continuous recording of it. So any change can break it if you dont update it (pressing triangle on controller), including extracting materia.
Emperor's New is the correct shield for PLD not only because none of the shields look good, but because every once in a while you'll encounter someone who doesn't know what it is and they'll yell at you for not having a shield
Funnily enough, that happened in a group I was in yesterday. Someone was laughing at the tank not having a shield and it was just glam'd.
[REDACTED]'s shield you get at the end of Heavensward is the one exception.
My experience with savage raiding during Stormblood that is I was the only person on my server to do anything Garo related, because no one seemed to know about Heroic Spirit (lv60 PvP invisible PvP shield, predates the addition of the Gold Saucer versions of the gear).
And nobody seemed to know how to *examine gear* either! So very frustrating. I swapped to WAR for the rest of the expac after I got sick of idiots yelling at me over nothing.
Edit: Heroic Spirit is the sole reason I got PLD to 60 back in Heavensward. Found out about the shield, power leveled so I could equip it. It has been my default shield glam ever since.
Nah, bucklers are the best and the best one is the shb relic shield.
I just find the shields looking ugly as fuck, so I always just glamour over it with Emperor's new.
But yeah, had that last expac where the healer was like "WHERE IS YOUR SHIELD, ACTUALLY GRIEFING" and i'm like "huh?"
he actually went ahead and explained how i'm missing out on stat points, told him to check my gear and there was my shield, just glamoured and he kept quiet for the remainder of the run (while me and the other 2 actively made fun of him xD)

Back in uni, I remember doing all my roulettes to get all my jobs to 70 (during stormblood), doing tribe quests during queue time to level all of tribes to max, and doing my daily workout during MSQ roulette's endless cutscenes. That's the most diligent I've ever been
Least favourite elevator segment? Either Serpentshrine Cavern or Blackwing Decent elevators in World of Warcraft. While you don't have to fight anything on them, I've certainly died plenty of times by not getting on them in time.

I just finished HW but watching your mentor roulettes is a great way for me to pick up mechanics I missed on the first time around! I had a gigachad WHM who took us through Aethero but it made me scared to run it again, but now I feel confident! also the Ramuh lightning. oops hahaha. Love your stuff!)
DUDE as a sprout, The Aetherochemical Reserach Facility was the first (maybe only) dungeon where I just kept dying. I wasn't used to the snapshot, I came from GW2 and I just couldn't get the timing right. I remember feeling so embarrased, I felt so sorry for our healer cause we died so many times and they tried so hard to carry. I don't think I've ever typed "i'm so sorry" so many times into chat as during that boss.
lol that's funny to read, because i've been that healer many times. I think that's one of the dungeons they reworked for the better too.
I've been that healer, and believe me it was frustrating but also so rewarding when the party of sprouts got that clear.
It's only frustrating for me when it's L90s in roulette expecting to wafflestomp the fight and not bothering with the mechanics.
When they first reworked that fight, there was a LOT of dying from everyone, so don't feel bad. I am that healer, and I never mind. I like that fight. That fight is absolutely where I really internalized snapshotting.

To be fair, moogle tribe is MEGA easy to miss that it even exists, because it's hidden behind a massive chain of yellow quests. So even if you're doing all your blue quests like people tell you to, you won't know you're missing them if you're not also doing yellows.
7:37 That does appear to be new, at some point the Tower of Zot last pull was force walled. Same thing happened somewhere in the Tower of Babil last pull. Literally ran into the wall confused one time on both. Don't know when the changes where made.
Reviewed some videos from EW early access (12/3/21), the walls were there in both Zot and Babil. It felt bigger when everyone was at-level, but Zot was always two pulls between the second and third boss.

Discovering this video series is quickly becoming a guilty pleasure. I finished my 2,000th mentor roulette about two months ago and this is a pretty good representation of what actually pops pretty regularly when queuing as a tank or healer. Good luck on the grind and may your Rathalos EX pops be few and far between.
Just found this channel through these mentor videos. I'm a sprout who loves playing healers so this is a good resource for me to become better at being a healer. I've already improved! I hope you keep these up :)

@16:55 Ferrofluid actually is a HW mechanic, it was in A3S, aka pepsiman. That liquid flame boss is just a byte sized dungeon version of A3S
Beast Tribes also give some bomb-ass mounts in addition to fantastic emotes. Amalj'aa gives the Cavalry Drake, a very prickly boi with a flame breath emote, and a lovely sinuous vibe -- especially when it's flying, but also on the ground. Also that first boss of Prae? That's Thongbot 6000 in my FC's headcanon now, and that's totally my fault.

I'd do it under 2 circumstances: 1. My best friend who is an extremely paranoid tech wizard vetted it and there have been years of medical observation to prove it's safe. Or 2. I'm dying and have a chance to back up my mind that way. And the latter only if I can get legal protection for my copy that guarantees it the same protections as a human being. Don't want anyone experimenting around with it.
So "it would be cool, but I don't trust it".

This is definitely interesting to see since my mentor roulettes have only been a massive amount of guildhests and raids (mostly normal but a few alliances). I've only gotten like 3-4 dungeons and they were all EW ones. I do mine as RDM.
I have been running it on healer and sometimes tank, and I'm starting to wonder if the short queues are just being offset by long dungeons. I seem to get more raids and trials on Tank at least, and those don't always clear on the first pull.
Least favorite elevator has to be the elevator puzzle in Legend of Dragoon in like the third disc. Just an endless maze of up, down, all around, until you FINALLY figure out where you're going.
Dusk Vigil: The hallways are too blue. -me, 30 seconds before Cider brought up the exact same thing lol

I wholeheartedly agree about the Paladin shield size annoyance. Make the next relic weapon a full sized tower shield and a gladius sized(18-ish inches) sword. The Paladin needs more shield options that scream "My job description says Immovable Object".
It's fitting that the Samurai was doing the "no brain between these ears" lallafel looking dance right at the last boss. You're at the end of the Endwalker release dungeons and you're still doing single-target attacks on groups of mobs.
I swear sooner than later there's gonna be a fucking steam hams skit with these Gaius and Lahabrea elevator edits.
Looking forward for 195 more that has the same 3 to 5 dungeons with the same commentary. I sure love Cider Spider mentor videos.
