As long as the sprouts are trying, and can learn over time, few things are more rewarding than helping a group of sprouts finish an ex trial in mentor. Makes my burger king crown proud of them.
Me and my buddy queued up for Delubrum and only got two other sprouts. We timed out, sure, but we reached the final boss and we knew the dungeon like the back of our damn hands by the end! We didn;t win, but we knew we didn't lose the next time we were able to queue into them. God bless those two randos.

We got it down to 5% and I was frantically trying to take it down using bloodbath and second wind to keep me topped up. Managed to do it and it was the most satisfying moment of FFXIV for me.
I'm convinced mentor roulette was put in not to help sprouts but make mentors sit down and really consider what we're doing with our lives. Just pure pain for hours then we get one guildhest and our brains reset.
I'm late but quoting something I heard on State Of The Realm once - NA players can access Mentor Roulette, but it was not made for us. The only reason any NA player touches it is because of the promise of a shiny mount at the end of it, and no other reason.
@@thehermitwizard Here's the thing. I often run Mentor Roulette when I want to do content, but, I don't want to limit it to just raids, or just trials. I use it as an instant queue while playing on DPS, as a "Surprise me" feature. But, when I have to actively grind it to get the mount, that turns it into a piece of shit when I get something like an EX with sprouts that don't want to learn and just think it's something they can just throw themselves at and win without trying.

But there was a point where I knew the bosses well enough to explain it myself while waiting for a fill. Almost every sprout that did it at that time was willing to learn. But when I reached HW extremes, Sepphiroth had one sprout that just wiped us for the full lockout. He refused to listen, learn or even wait a second. If tank didn't pull, he would. Like he understood anything. In retrospective, we should have just kicked him, because the rest of the group did great. But that raid alone made me stop queueing for extremes over Partyfinder.

Uff must have been fun, never did mentor roulette (can't yet) but i did have a few normals where i had to explain a few things to sprouts. which is weird because i just lost the sprout a few months ago myself and im still unlocking some dungeons and winging mechanics 🤣
I started trying to do Mentor Roulette during this time period and the amount of extremes I rolled... I usually tried to stick it out but eventually I stopped queuing for a while. Getting failed clear after failed clear feels like staring into the sun. I never griefed the sprouts, it's not very clear in game that this is not duty finder content, but I did sigh and contemplate my life a lot.
Cheers for not insta-leaving extremes on mentor roulette, I see way too many "mentors" doing it. Currently at 1658/2000 and it's unironically refreshing to run into anything that isn't a braindead dungeon, even if it's painful sometimes.
New players should not be using def to do extremes for any reason, especially going in blind. I am near 2k mentors and have never done a single extreme and never will

@@KambraI've had a ton that never cleared. The worst ones usually being Rath EX when you have people who don't listen. It is 100% impossible to carry in that fight, since them dying 3 times makes you lose regardless of how well you do. And you can't heal them either. The healer probably doesn't know what esuna is, and it takes 5 wipes before people realize what you mean by "use the potions to heal" It makes Ramuh EX look like Ifrit Hard
it's always the sprout that somehow know the strat better than you while the mentors have lost 50% of their mental capacity because of said mentor roulettes

There’re at least 32 ‘Extreme’ difficulty trials on the roulette, among over 200 duties. We’re not allow to reprog the fight we’ve seen like 2 times over 2000 hours of playtime? The venn-diagram of people who are patient enough to not leave the the duty after taking their time to explain the fight only for it to be ignored and wiping to the same mechanic that was just explain over and over again, and the people who remember every mechanics of every fight is so slim that it’s unreasonable to require for ANYONE to fullfill. It’s not a required thing for mentor to do mentor roulette, we do it because we want to help people learn the game. Or relearn the game while teaching it at the same time! I do it because its fun, and sometimes very rewarding. It’s doesn’t help the morale of mentors out there doing the work.
my fc got me to do seph unreal back when it was up in faux hollows. that was an experience for a new-ish gnb. i struggled hard, esp since i was only barely meeting the iLvl reqs. towers gave me the most trouble.
Lar = Left remember that trick. And he casts this twice while changing positions. If the second is the same as the first (starboard then starboard), go to the other side. If it’s different (starboard then larboard), you stay on the side you’re on. If you’re facing the boss as a tank, you do the opposite directions to dodge since it is Omega’s orientation (Omega’s left/right), not yours.
One of my fondest sprout memories was doing mistrel's ballad ultima with a bunch of other sprouts. The best part was slowly realising that 'minstrel's ballad' isn't the same as '(hard)' because we didn't have a mentor in the party to give us the early warning signs. That fight isn't too bad so we cleared in decent time. Much easier than the few other arr and hw extremes I've gone into synced.
I worked on and finally got my Astrope mount during the period before Endwalker launched. Saw all manner of crazy shit in mentor roulette. The worst Ex trial to get by far was Ramuh Ex. It’s just a very demanding fight for new tanks to learn. Also got Shinryu Ex one time and we all learned the fight from prog to clear in the time limit, that was the most fun. Best advice I can give is to make a quota for how many mentor roulettes you can do in one day and try to hit it as often as possible.
I feel Ifrit's just as bad, but on healers instead of tanks. So many doofus healers running into the group and then exploding everyone everywhere. But Ramuh is probably worse because of the sheer number of times it turns up. I think I had at least 7 Ramuhs for every 1 Ifrit.

I finished my mentor roulettes earlier this year and I can sympathize. Sometimes you get people who you can explain mechanics to and they will learn. Sometimes people make the same mistakes for an hour and it kills your soul. Keep up the good work!
Some months ago had a sprout that was amazed at how i gave actual advise despite being a Mentor. What he didn't know is that i had only been mentor for a week and since i hadn't finished msq (and to date still haven't) i don't have access to mentor roulette and all the toxicity.
At a certain point mentors become cynical about sprouts and stop giving advice when 90% of their advice is met with such classics as "YoU dOnT pAy My SuB!" "This isn't savage! Stop telling me how to play!" "I was told this obviously false thing is true by another sprout, you don't know what you're talking about!" "I don't understand basic math so you're wrong" "I know more than you on this job at level 30 than you do at max level (doesn't use half their kit)" etc. You'd be surprised what hills sprouts are willing to die on.
you don't have to break it in normal tbf, but yeah the parrying noise is still a VERY common occurence. it doesn't help when the tank spins him either...
I wish when joining up for duties you could toggle how much experience you have with a dungeon, and mentors could toggle what experience leveled players they're willing to team up with. I say this as a returner (more-so a sprout as I basically quit the game while I was still a sprout). I want to be matched up with mentors who do have the patience and willingness to help guide when necessary, but it seems very hit and miss with who you get teamed up with. Actually it'd be kinda cool if mentors in these duties could sorta... manipulate the dungeon somehow. Like play God Mode on the boss and lower their damage/HP etc on a vote system if all the sprouts are having a hard time, or freeze the boss in place and be like "Ok guys the boss is about to do X, in this situation you do Y okay ready? Unfreezing!" Like actually have it as a true learning/training experience. Better than everyone rage quitting and wasting an entire dungeon.

I’ve been getting a *lot* of guildhests for mentor roulette this month And thanks to the roulette I’ve been permanently scarred whenever I see arr titan ramuh or ifrit show up even if it’s the non-ex versions
@@dresamae obligatory "drink responsibly message" don't be dumb about it. Mentor DR 1. Take a drink before queing (You know why) 2. Take a drink everytime a person dies 3. Take a drink anytime you tell a person the mechanic and they die to the mechanic any way. (This stacks with 2) 4. Take drinks if the player runs away with the stack marker (This is stackable with 2) 5. Finish your drink if either YPYT occurs or a Heal only healer appears. 6. Take a shot if you come across a ice mage. 7. Take a shot if a wipe occurs(excluding ex's, let's not obliterate our livers. please see 8) 8. Take a drink if a wipe occurs on ex. (You are gonna be there till a lockout. Might as well brace ya self.) 9. Take a shot if you save/carry a train wreck run (if everyone is dying left right and center and you are the only constant to the group you are carrying) Bonus: For my 3rd Party enthusiasts 10. Take a shot upon finishing the duty if you are playing a class that has no business being at the top after completion of the duty. Ie: Dancer, healers, tanks.
From a mentor to another: the first thing to do after unlocking mentor roulette is to disable the option to join on going duties. Otherwise 90% of the time you'll end up in an extreme fight, CT or even worse: praetorium
I felt this...I remember getting Ifrit EX, Leviathan EX and Tsukiyomi EX in a mentor Roulette and all I could think of is "why are people QUEING FOR THIS!?" xD
For me it was Thornmarch EX. With Ramuh we had the Tanks tank at south so the Sprout Tank could reach the orbs fast enough. It's a harsh battle but it was very educational. ❤
I have been playing for less than a year and between the heavensward and stormblood expansion I decided to try and do all the ARR extremes in duty finder. Thank you kind mentors who actually didn't instantly leave when seeing Thornmarch EX. It took me several tries to find people actually willing to do it, but then it was smooth sailing.
Apparently I ruin mentors's roulette by doing Shiva ex again and again cause I love it even if I know it perfectly. Dunno doing something you like and you know was ruinning other experience. ( funny tho that the mentor in question kept dying to easily avoidable aoe... )
As a mentor who finished the mount grind back in stormblood, I appreciate your pain and struggles. Our shared experience amuses me greatly. I too would stay and teach EXs... the pain...
When I go in as mentor or just in progress duty, I stay to clear the fights (but I always tell them I need my roulette money I ain’t leaving til I get it) and we always end up clearing… We’re getting too many elitists nowadays.

I'm safe from the montage... this time. I know a lot of the duties up to like level 60, but I took an extended break and forgot a lot more than I wished I had. I spent 10 years playing World of Warcraft and it's incredibly humbling trying to remember everything I've done.
I hate getting low level roulettes as a healer. You're forced to just be a heal bot because you and the tank lack the tools for you to be anything else but a heal bot. I want to cast broil and keep my bubble up and let my fairy handle most of the healing while I occasionally give a shield to the tank, and maybe do deployment tactics or succor if we really need it, not sit there and spam physick because I literally don't even have my shield yet
At the end of Shadowbringers me and a friend had finished getting triple legend and were so bored he would just queue mentor and when another mentor inevitably left an ex party i would queue and hop in, we probably cleared 50+ sprouts through arr/hw ex trials LMAO.
As a floor tank player, i really appreciate the patience most veterans have with new players, I have learned a lot from watching others, and as a returning player I remembered most mechanics! Sometimes i mess up if the attack doesn’t have a marker but i learn from it and dont make the same mistake twice 😂
DPS is by far the easiest. Though I love playing tank and having my sprout cotank go "do you know how to tankswap" because then I know I'm in for a good time
This just fucking sent me as a returner, was MT'ing all of A1-12S cuz I was bored synced with a pf full of mentors I corralled our of NN boredom and the fucking guy perma shirking back to me anytime I shirked for a tank swap was so fucking funny, like I'm fucking on 5 stacks of vulnerable take the boss you gronk 😂
As someone who doesn't do Mentor roulette even though I can, I can't remember every detail from every Extreme fight. it's much easier to tell the raid to watch a video because that's exactly what I'd be doing to refresh on it. On that note, it's always better to do Normal/Savage Raids and Extreme trials via the Party Finder.
Ngl, i love queuing for ex content in df. Most mentors are sound but there are a few who mald the second they come in, and it brings me joy. I will queue ex content in ARR and HW forever, specifically for mentor tears. Whats sad is they join an easy one like limitless blue or ultima weapon amd they STILL mald. Did half the mentors just clear this stuff unsynced? We will never know. Obviously sprouts not doing their jobs can be frustrating but tbh its also hilarious. Love it forever. Thanks for being a dope mentor
Still have to finish the shb extremes and bozja duties to have access to mentor roulette but I’m afraid to queue into extremes where I have no idea what the hell is going on. I guess I’m not above looking up mechanics between pulls if it really gets that bad though.
It's pretty common in JP, or at least it was for the several years I was on Tonberry. But that's usually for when people have practiced, cleared the fight, generally know it and can follow a macro, etc.
I play solo so always use duty finder to do ex and it go pretty well 😮 I love doing Shiva ex (not eden) cause i find funny seeing people dying to her bow phase x)

As an English speaker, I can confirm that almost no one knew what larboard meant when it was dropped day 1. Also Laetum ftw.

Recently I was the only non mentor in Ultima weapon MSQ Scenario. That was the first time I've ever wiped during it.

I wish when joining up for duties you could toggle how much experience you have with a dungeon, and mentors could toggle what experience leveled players they're willing to team up with. I say this as a returner (more-so a sprout as I basically quit the game while I was still a sprout). I want to be matched up with mentors who do have the patience and willingness to help guide when necessary, but it seems very hit and miss with who you get teamed up with. Actually it'd be kinda cool if mentors in these duties could sorta... manipulate the dungeon somehow. Like play God Mode on the boss and lower their damage/HP etc on a vote system if all the sprouts are having a hard time, or freeze the boss in place and be like "Ok guys the boss is about to do X, in this situation you do Y okay ready? Unfreezing!" Like actually have it as a true learning/training experience. Better than everyone rage quitting and wasting an entire dungeon.
The one thing I learn from this, is mentors love pain and mentor roulette is rolling in the circles of hell.

And thanks to the roulette I’ve been permanently scarred whenever I see arr titan ramuh or ifrit show up even if it’s the non-ex versions

Mentor DR
1. Take a drink before queing (You know why)
2. Take a drink everytime a person dies
3. Take a drink anytime you tell a person the mechanic and they die to the mechanic any way. (This stacks with 2)
4. Take drinks if the player runs away with the stack marker (This is stackable with 2)
5. Finish your drink if either YPYT occurs or a Heal only healer appears.
6. Take a shot if you come across a ice mage.
7. Take a shot if a wipe occurs(excluding ex's, let's not obliterate our livers. please see 8)
8. Take a drink if a wipe occurs on ex. (You are gonna be there till a lockout. Might as well brace ya self.)
9. Take a shot if you save/carry a train wreck run (if everyone is dying left right and center and you are the only constant to the group you are carrying)
Bonus: For my 3rd Party enthusiasts
10. Take a shot upon finishing the duty if you are playing a class that has no business being at the top after completion of the duty. Ie: Dancer, healers, tanks.

From a mentor to another: the first thing to do after unlocking mentor roulette is to disable the option to join on going duties. Otherwise 90% of the time you'll end up in an extreme fight, CT or even worse: praetorium
Weird thing to suggest as a role that's meant to help and explain fights and assist learning players.

I felt this...I remember getting Ifrit EX, Leviathan EX and Tsukiyomi EX in a mentor Roulette and all I could think of is "why are people QUEING FOR THIS!?" xD

I sometimes directly queue for extremes as a mentor to troll the mentors doing their roulettes.
You can literally do Shields for the party, just tell them to stack center, pull boss off center, and then rotate the boss dependent on the cast

2k Mentor here. The worst was The Striking Tree (Extreme) . I doubt we ever cleared it.
For me it was Thornmarch EX.
With Ramuh we had the Tanks tank at south so the Sprout Tank could reach the orbs fast enough. It's a harsh battle but it was very educational. ❤
Relatable, the chaos is half the reason why I do mentor roulette though x)

I have been playing for less than a year and between the heavensward and stormblood expansion I decided to try and do all the ARR extremes in duty finder. Thank you kind mentors who actually didn't instantly leave when seeing Thornmarch EX. It took me several tries to find people actually willing to do it, but then it was smooth sailing.
Apparently I ruin mentors's roulette by doing Shiva ex again and again cause I love it even if I know it perfectly. Dunno doing something you like and you know was ruinning other experience. ( funny tho that the mentor in question kept dying to easily avoidable aoe... )

When I go in as mentor or just in progress duty, I stay to clear the fights (but I always tell them I need my roulette money I ain’t leaving til I get it) and we always end up clearing…

I'm safe from the montage... this time. I know a lot of the duties up to like level 60, but I took an extended break and forgot a lot more than I wished I had. I spent 10 years playing World of Warcraft and it's incredibly humbling trying to remember everything I've done.
that Ravana run felt really personal, i had the same struggle once on titan ex with like 5 minutes or so to go when we cleared

I hate getting low level roulettes as a healer. You're forced to just be a heal bot because you and the tank lack the tools for you to be anything else but a heal bot. I want to cast broil and keep my bubble up and let my fairy handle most of the healing while I occasionally give a shield to the tank, and maybe do deployment tactics or succor if we really need it, not sit there and spam physick because I literally don't even have my shield yet

At the end of Shadowbringers me and a friend had finished getting triple legend and were so bored he would just queue mentor and when another mentor inevitably left an ex party i would queue and hop in, we probably cleared 50+ sprouts through arr/hw ex trials LMAO.
As a floor tank player, i really appreciate the patience most veterans have with new players, I have learned a lot from watching others, and as a returning player I remembered most mechanics! Sometimes i mess up if the attack doesn’t have a marker but i learn from it and dont make the same mistake twice 😂

DPS is by far the easiest. Though I love playing tank and having my sprout cotank go "do you know how to tankswap" because then I know I'm in for a good time
This just fucking sent me as a returner, was MT'ing all of A1-12S cuz I was bored synced with a pf full of mentors I corralled our of NN boredom and the fucking guy perma shirking back to me anytime I shirked for a tank swap was so fucking funny, like I'm fucking on 5 stacks of vulnerable take the boss you gronk 😂
Most of these are just the regular roulette experience but those extremes look painful lmao
As someone who doesn't do Mentor roulette even though I can, I can't remember every detail from every Extreme fight. it's much easier to tell the raid to watch a video because that's exactly what I'd be doing to refresh on it.
On that note, it's always better to do Normal/Savage Raids and Extreme trials via the Party Finder.
Ngl, i love queuing for ex content in df. Most mentors are sound but there are a few who mald the second they come in, and it brings me joy. I will queue ex content in ARR and HW forever, specifically for mentor tears. Whats sad is they join an easy one like limitless blue or ultima weapon amd they STILL mald. Did half the mentors just clear this stuff unsynced? We will never know. Obviously sprouts not doing their jobs can be frustrating but tbh its also hilarious. Love it forever. Thanks for being a dope mentor

Still have to finish the shb extremes and bozja duties to have access to mentor roulette but I’m afraid to queue into extremes where I have no idea what the hell is going on. I guess I’m not above looking up mechanics between pulls if it really gets that bad though.

i used to do this! it's because khloe needed it and i was a free trial sprout LOL
It's pretty common in JP, or at least it was for the several years I was on Tonberry. But that's usually for when people have practiced, cleared the fight, generally know it and can follow a macro, etc.
I play solo so always use duty finder to do ex and it go pretty well 😮 I love doing Shiva ex (not eden) cause i find funny seeing people dying to her bow phase x)
In elemental dc thats what people usually do so the clear rate is actually pretty reliable
