I was walking on campus the other day before I moved out and I was watching the sunset by the river. I was just like “man, it’s almost over already? Hi Jared, my son is one of the several hundred freshmen affected by the housing situation. He may defer for a year and hopefully be given "priority housing" for fall 2022. Fingers crossed. Thank you for addressing this in your video. My son chose this school due to the new Computer Science major, Honor Program, small class size and being near/in a big city. And funny, we are from the Northeast lol! (Rhode Island).

    • @JaredKauffman
      @JaredKauffman  3 года назад +1

      Hi Dawn! I’m really sorry that your son is one of the freshmen affected by the situation! If he does defer, hopefully he can get that priority housing. A lot of people I know are excited about the new computer science program because it’ll make things so much easier than what computer science majors had to do in the past! Maybe he can take some classes at a local community college that can transfer credit over during this time to save money! And yes! Those are all things I love about the school too! I was in the Honors Program my freshman year, and I am also from the Northeast! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

The professors that I had were amazing too so it was honestly great haha All of them had extensive experience in the field and had so much to share and teach us. I will say though some of those professors have moved on to work at other college or decided to pursue something else so I can’t say much for who is teaching classes now, but I’m sure they’re great too! Hey MudkipGirl111! I love your RUclips name! Big Pokémon guy over here! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I appreciate you so much and I'm so grateful for that nice comment!! 😊 You've come to the right spot because I also don't party and I am not super interested in the party scene. I've been able to make SO many friends even though I am not part of a fraternity/the party scene. I even found my girlfriend through an organization on campus and she also isn't part of the party scene. It is definitely easy to make friends at UT without partying, but, you just have to be intentional with where you're looking to make those friends. I do think the majority of the student body is nice, but as always, you'll find the occasional person you don't fully "click" with. Hope this helps!!

      The housing at UT was an issue as far back as 1988 when I started as a freshman in the fall. That said, it wasn't a huge road block at all and didn't deter me from finishing my degree there and having some of the best college experiences I think I could have ever had. Honestly, it was such a minor "blip" and obviously not so bad that I remembered that aspect of UT my freshman year. Love UT, love beautiful Tampa and miss it so much, everyone is so friendly and accommodating...best city to live in in my opinion ( definitely beats Phoenix, AZ- desert living really stinks and people not as friendly and there's no Cuban food).

      Hey William! If you live on campus, you need a meal plan. I’m pretty sure it’s a liability thing for the school. If you go to “dining.ut.edu” website, they have the meal plans listed and the smallest one you can have based on which dorm you’re living in as well as the prices. I also made a video on the meals plans here! ruclips.net/video/OwLBrgHnC04/видео.html if you live off campus though, you don’t need a meal plan. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting!

My GPA was decent, and I was involved in some excs too. Honestly, I was SO nervous I wouldn’t get in. I remember seeing their acceptance rate of like 47% and thinking “I’m not gonna get in.” Honestly, I think a lot of people get in if they meet the requirements. Hi! I am not familiar with the MS in Business Analytics program here at UT. I imagine that it is good, but I am unsure. Sorry! I think UT is a good school because I met so many people here. You can do that anywhere though. UT is a great location for me, but it may not be for you. I am also a Christian. UT has a couple Christian orgs here on campus, but there are also a ton of churches in the area. I got connected to a church here in Tampa as well as one of the Christian organizations called Cru here on campus. I have loved both SO much! They have transformed my time in college. Making friends isn't hard since you're around so many people and there are so many ways to get involved while on campus. BUT, it may be hard to find genuine, life-giving, truth-speaking friends that will really speak "life" into you here. I found those friends through Cru on campus, as well as through my church here in Tampa. You have to put in the effort to find the right people. Hope this helps!

    Hi…Thanks Jared for the informative video. My son is passionate to get into UT for computer science for undergrad. And I am insisting him to get into USF considering the ranking of these universities. Does ranking of the universities really matters when it comes to get a good job opportunities in Tampa after completing engineering.

    • @JaredKauffman
      @JaredKauffman  2 года назад

      Hi Kavita! Thanks for commenting! Honestly, I don’t think it matters where you go to school when it comes to getting a job. Most jobs want to see that you have experience/connections so, depending on where he goes, look at how he can get experience (internships, part time jobs in his field, etc.) and who he can meet that can help him get connected with a good job. Especially since UT and USF are both in Tampa and both are known schools, I don’t think it matters which school he decides. If I could go back in time, I’d choose the cheaper school but, engineering and computer science will payoff really quick since it’s a really good major and job field to be in! Hope this helps!

      If you are in engineering or applied science (also computer science) , UT sucks. Their program is newer and weak. No good teacher is going to choose to work there. I’ve worked for big defense contractors in engineering and usually the engineering and computer departments supplement each other. Also, UT is a poor university and weak research which mean they do not get world class teachers for students to be under and then they also do not have graduate level engineering departments so again you won’t get much bang for your buck. No defense contractor or military branch is paying for major research on UT and that is where the money comes to supplement the students.

However i am nervous because I’m religious and don’t really like the party scene but is scared I’m going to lean into it as a way to make friends. Is there a lot of good Christian groups that are easy to get involved in at UT? I come from the Bible Belt so my best friends are my church friends and I love having connections like that and I’m scared I’m not going to have those type of friendships if I move away.

    • @JaredKauffman
      @JaredKauffman  2 года назад

      Hey Kailyn! Congrats on the scholarship! That’s awesome!! I was in your exact same shoes. I was SO nervous I’d lose my faith and not be able to make friends who were also Christians and then eventually leave the faith. However, the exact opposite happened. I’ve been deeper in my faith than I’ve ever been, and I have a great community. UT has 3 notable Christian orgs. We have Cru, InterVarsity, and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). I am a part of cru and have been since my freshman year. With cru, they also are connected to local churches in the area, so I’m plugged into a church community here in tampa too. There a ways to get connected to the RIGHT community, as long as you’re INTENTIONAL about prioritizing those decisions. Trust me, if you’re intentional and make the effort to find a solid community, you’ll experience a great joy and an AMAZING experience here at UTampa. That’s what happened with me! I don’t think UT specifically is affiliated with any political party. I’ve met a lot of students who lean left and lean right. It really depends on your classes and who you hangout with. As a communication major, politics and issues in society are talked about often, but like, if you’re a biology major, I’m not sure that they’re talk about often. The school has addressed certain issues, but they don’t generally (based on what I’ve observed) take a political stance. The majority of the professors I’ve had seem to lean to the left, but again, those are my communication professors who talk about issues because that’s what communication deals with in some capacity.
