I got accepted EA to the University of Michigan. I'm still deciding whether or not I want to go. This has honestly been the best pro/con video I've seen, so thank you :)
Hey, I applied to umich EA too. I am currently shitting my pants because I think I probably won't get in. Could you tell me your briefly tell me your stats? It would make me feel much better. Thank you
I watched a lot of your videos while writing my essays and such for Michigan’s chemistry graduate program, and I have been accepted 🎉🎉! Your videos have always been a big source of motivation
I wanted to go to Umich this year actually but was waitlisted and never got off. This video just confirms every reason why I want to go. My mom is an alumni and has always been so connected with this school. I’m already planning on submitting a transfer application, so fingers crossed! 😅
Just finished my first week here and I've already noticed most of the things you've listed. I will note: this school feels extremely enormous when you're a transfer student. Being alone seems to be more of the rule than the exception - especially when clubs are competitive to join. People here have been very cold and not willing to reciprocate when I try to form study groups or chitchat sessions. But I won't give up.
yes perspective matters lots here, since many won't have to worry about the Ross curve, and some will see North campus as a plus if they don't have just one or two classes up there but all of their classes
this is great! i never went there, but as i mentioned in prior comments my aunts, uncles, and brother all went here. and i love the place. and actaully one of your cons. i didn't get in even though my adjusted HS GPA went from 3.1 up to 3.4 i think. and that was't even good enough. i would have gone there
I was placed at Bates years ago and it was dreadful , as was the North Campus. Thereafter, I lived on Church Street and later on the corner of Liberty. It has been said by many , and it’s true, the college years are the best times of your life: you are young, beautiful, free & healthy . Stay well!!!
My oldest is at Seton Hall and also does not get the full week off for the Thanksgiving. Now my younger son is considering UM. When do you usually find out those M/T classes are cancelled?
Honestly sometimes they tell you in the syllabus, but I have also had classes that decide the Friday before break. So unfortunately, I usually just plan to skip them regardless if they end up getting cancelled or not because most of the class isn't there anyways.
Baits is lowkey the best dorm in every regard, en-suite bathrooms, the tight community and u take the bus with same people each day so u get to know lots of people
Honestly there are 2 really big cons. One is that it’s not a cheap college town. Many of the out of state students come from rich households and can afford pricey stuff so businesses jack up their prices. Especially restaurants. It is starting to attract a lot of homelessness as well. And the last con is drug problems. You may not know it but the access to get really hard drugs is really easy due to the Canadien-Detroit border. Many notorious drug dealers like to target umich students. The umich police has not done a great job on this to tell you the truth. This is happening at msu as well but Ann Arbor has been notorious for this. And doing a shroom and weed festival is not ok. That’s where the drug dealers show up to introduce new illegal drugs to students. It’s like the umich board wants their student body to do hardcore drugs. Other than that there are no cons. And this is coming from someone who has been around the campus for a while and is a huge umich fan. Do have fun but stay safe. 〽️〽️〽️
Oh my gosh, I am so sad to hear about the drug problems. That was NEVER an issue when I went there way back in the late 70s early 80s. I am so disappointed to hear that. WOW!!
hey!! i’m battling between UNC and UMICH right now (i’m a north carolina resident so unc is half the price and that’s definitely holding me back from committing to michigan!). i’m in love w umich bc of the balance between school spirit, academics, and athletics so i’ve been trying to apply to as many opportunities as possible to make it more justifiable. i’m waiting to hear about getting the LEAD scholarship at umich (it would even out the price) and i also applied to the honors program. your first con (housing) is making me nervous about waiting to commit to uofm. is there a way to guarantee good housing? since i applied to the honors program, ik there’s a potential for me to guarantee central campus housing but what about other non-learning communities? what would you say are some of the best dorms or just general places/areas to live? i like a good party (i’ll probably rush) but i take academics seriously too. if you have any tips or tricks when it comes to freshman year as an out of state student please share🫶🏻🫶🏻 thank you so much, this video was unbelievably helpful!
Hi there! First off congrats getting into two amazing schools! There isn't really a way to guarantee good housing unless you are in the honors program and learning communities, unfortunately. I think some of the "best" dorms are west quad, east quad, south quad, and mosher jordan (MoJo). However, even though I lived on North, I LOVEDDDDD MY DORM. It was the exact experience I was looking for and it was its own community up there. To me it was just annoying that we all paid the same, when I literally had less amenities and to take a bus down to central. As an out of state student I would say that they best thing to do is to meet people from out of state and also in-state. I have gone home with some of my in-state friends before and it's nice to have a weekend away sometimes. However, there are plenty of people that come from North Carolina to Michigan, so you could definitely find some people in the same boat as you. One of my roommates is from Chapel Hill actually! I also recommend getting involved in something on campus when you get here, it makes the school feel a lot more small when you have a network of people!
I watched your videos a lot when I was applying to the University of Michigan....I just got in last Friday and I might go here next year!! I was wondering if you think the pros and cons of University of Michigan would differ as an in-state student.
Hi! Congrats on your acceptance! I definitely think that there are some different pros and cons to being an instate student. Specifically a pro or con (depends on what you are wanting) is that there are sooo many people from Michigan and more than likely lots of people you will run into from your high school. However, the pros of being affordable instate and not having to spend a lot of money to get home is definitely a plus!
Applied to MI as a transfer with a near perfect GPA. Haven’t heard back yet but I believe I’ll be accepted. I’m also older than most students. Glad I watched this. Have no interest in college sports whatsoever. I feel relieved to cross MI off my list. Prestigious school, no question, but not for me. I personally am not thrilled about the Midwest location. I myself am seeking a university in a large city. Bar scene? I don’t need a bar scene. Good luck to everyone in getting into where you want to go. Good review; thanks.
this video was so helpful, im deciding on whether or not to go to umich at the moment! i was going to commit, but now im a little scared 😭 is it worth it? im so nervous
Wow impressive. Seems like a really nice college. Im only 1 state from Michigan (im in Wisconsin) honestly would consider going here. I like traveling and wanna live in a different state as well 😊
I went to Michigan in the late 70's early 80's and just about every con you discussed was exactly the same with the exception of the language classes. Sixteen credits if you don't test out is highway robbery. Honestly, it's not about the language, it's about the money they are stealing from you. As far as football, Michigan use to win most if not all of their games and it was nothing to win the BIG every year. It was expected. The games were always fun! No disrespect, but I am so happy I never have to take another class ever again. Best of luck.
Haha I totally understand the "happy to never have to take another class ever again". I am pretty close to being done with school. I agree about the highway robbery, the thing that bothers me is that not every school at Michigan requires it. But anyways, go blue!
baits is not the worst!!! everyone thinks it is but it’s way better than bursely and even better than some other dorms. every room has a shared bathroom with suitmates and there is mini kitchens and other rooms in the baits houses. also you can create super great friends since it’s a smaller community. would never change being in baits 😌
I’m glad to hear that! Since I lived in Bursley, I knew a lot of people that lived in Baits and didn’t have the same love for it as you seem to have. But each person’s opinions are different… go blue!
Sometimes if you have food allergies or join learning communities you can guarantee certain dorms. But it can change year to year, so you would need to do your research!
I live in Michigan and go to a very elite and competitive high school where almost everyone goes to Michigan. I will say that if you go there, the professors are amazing. They know what they are doing and couldn’t be better. The main reason I decided not to go is because they don’t have a great flight major and my main thing is almost everyone on the campus is very liberal.
@@HaydenWeber you are welcome. btw, i can give you an example of this. a lady i knnow was in a terrible motor cycle accdent over 10 years ago with her husband. they were even reading her her last rights (some catholic thing) and her entire leg was hanging on by a thread. they told her she would have to amputate it. she said no. so the yairlifted her to Michigan's hostpical. and they literally had surgeouns that were so good they literally stihed back together hundres maybe 1000 diffrent little fibers in her leg over several surgeries and saved her leg. she still is using that leg fairly normal to this day. but they said UM was the only place within 500 miles that could do it
It totally depends on your fafsa, however, I wouldn’t say it’s amazing. But in comparison to the other out of state school I got into, Michigan gave me more aid than they did.
I don’t know a crazy amount, I just know that it is highly competitive and it’s like a cohort of students in the nursing program and most of them take all the same classes. I’ve been in some classes where people assumed I was nursing because all the other students in the class were nursing majors. Outside of that I don’t know much more!
Hi Hayden! I want to let you know that you did a VERY, VERY Great job with being detailed about what you are talking about and this is just a Helpful video about how it can be for a future student at University of Michigan! Your communication is Very Great! I am not sure if you get to reply to your messages on Social Media but I will try to say Hi to you sometime soon! My name is Gavin Angel! You seem like you could potentially be a Great News woman also! Hopefully we can chat in the future!
I got accepted EA to the University of Michigan. I'm still deciding whether or not I want to go. This has honestly been the best pro/con video I've seen, so thank you :)
Aw thanks so much! Congrats!
A much better experience awaits 200 miles south on US 23. Just sayin....

Aw I am so glad that my videos were helpful to you. Congratulations, Michigan is the best! GOOO BLUEEE
hey im a junior in hs just researching the colleges im thinking of applying to this fall and thank you sm for this video for it really helped!!💗
Good luck!! Glad I could help!

This is great info for prospective students. Good job!

It takes time to meet people! Have you been able to connect with any other transfer students?
Thank you Hayden this was so helpful
Glad it was helpful!

great video altogether! as a current sophomore, i agree a lot
Thank you! I totally agree with what you said:)
I wish this existed back when I started in 2020. Hasn't been an easy journey (Ill be a Senior in the fall), but I loved it here
I’m also going into my senior year. Have a wonderful time:) Go Blue!
As a Michigan resident, most schools in the state both college and hs only get three days for thx giving.
That’s so interesting, I didn’t know that. I’ve lived in a few states and I’ve always gotten a week off!
Hi Hayden,
I want to ask if application waiver is available in university of michigan-flint
this is great! i never went there, but as i mentioned in prior comments my aunts, uncles, and brother all went here. and i love the place. and actaully one of your cons. i didn't get in even though my adjusted HS GPA went from 3.1 up to 3.4 i think. and that was't even good enough. i would have gone there
Yea it is definitely very competitive in multiple ways

Baits is definitely nice amenity wise… most people I knew there though felt it wasn’t super social

Thanks for some additional cons, it definitely is not cheap. I'm not as aware about the drug problem, but that is good information to know!
Oh my gosh, I am so sad to hear about the drug problems. That was NEVER an issue when I went there way back in the late 70s early 80s. I am so disappointed to hear that. WOW!!

It’s an amazing school!!!
2.3k new dorms being built in Elbel Field, so hopefully they rebuild the North Campus dorms next.
I have a feeling they will eventually!
Go Blue! Awesome that you went to U of M as a non-Michigan resident. More people need to leave their homes to experience different walks of life.
I totally agree!
Great job and always interesting to watch your videos. Don't think I be going to M any time soon😊 it's still fun to watch.
Thanks Grandpa Dwayne!
What did you mean by nepotism? Honestly didn’t understand. Ty!
People get certain opportunities because of their parents and such is what I meant by nepotism!
We're very different types of people but this video was still super helpful :)!
I’m glad to hear that it was helpful!

Im a Junior from Missouri in HS currently and I’m thinking of applying to Umich next year! I hope I will be able to get in considering my stats 😁
Best of luck!
Do u know how international students pay for their tuition? Do they pay it from their pocket or is there any scholarships ?
I think it depends on the individual. Some pay out of pocket and some have scholarships/student loans!
do you know anything about their education program? or psychology/sociology?
I don't know too much but two of my housemates are minoring in education. I took some psychology classes but know nothing about sociology.

one other pro. Michigan has one of the top 3-5 hospitals in teh entire country
There’s so many more pros, I agree! Thanks for sharing!

Hi ,i wanted to ask if Michigan accepts international students
There are a lot of international students at Michigan so yes they do!
Can anyone tell me about their nursing program?
