    Im dreaming of a 10'6" spinning rod, preferably this exact rod. Although, i wasnt sure what rating (i.e. Medium, medium heavy, etc.) was best. This helps to clear that up for me because i normally run 12 lb. mono for whipping. The diamond shine coatings is also super useful info to know before going out and using the rod and getting it dirty. Ur the man! Thnx

    she said "I just Google fishing stuff and randomly picked something.

    informative video! i'm thinking of purchasing the Tica HLHB 14'0 ft M 3/8-3/4, im going to primarily use it for surf perch off CA. You mentioned the lure rating should be bigger... what do you think it should be? I am looking for something with the same light sensitive feel as the rockaway but slightly longer.

      The HCS Surf Rods are 13'3" & 14'1". If you're looking for a real deal get the Nesika 12' Surf Rod. For me it handled Jacks to large Bonefish. A small ray at night to fighting a GT in a lightning storm before it threw the hook. MSRP? Only $85. That's why i bought 2 on my own so i have 3 rods now.

    I have problem with my TP SW5000XG spool goes up and down 1mm,reel is brand new,is that normal or bad? Tnx

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  5 лет назад

      To be honest i'm not sure as i no longer own this reel. If you check the RUclips channel of AlanxHawk there are some bad reviews of recent Shimano spinners, namely they're best the Stella. The TP is virtually the same, just less seals & bearings which is why they justify the price you pay. They're good reels out there but it was hard for me to keep buying Shimano as i started noticing the changes to the quality vs the price.
      I've been informed of these changes by those way more connected & in the loop then i am. But from what you noticed i'd say the spool shouldn't rise & fall like that. The Ultegra series does do that though, part of their line layering system.

    hey Chris. I also have the same 10'6 tica medium as you but I am using the shimano Stradic Ci4+ 3000. Is the reel too light for this rod? I notice that the tip of the rod feels heavy and the reel feels tiny on the rod. Is this the right setup?

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  7 лет назад

      Yeah, when i used my 3K it felt a little light. The 4K felt much better. The 5K was ok but barely, it was a bit to much. So i'd say at lest for me that the 4K size of Shimano spinners felt more balanced on that rod. But you must decide what's best for you. Thanks foe watching my videos:)

    • @myshowvids
      @myshowvids 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I also felt that the 4K seems just right on this rod but the 3K is a lot more fun.

    • @myshowvids
      @myshowvids 7 лет назад +1

      Also, how's the shimano Stradic FK 3000 on the 10'6 tica? Is it better than the Ci4+ 4000 since they both weigh the same? I have been comparing these two for a very long time but can't decide.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  7 лет назад

      FK's are stronger then the CI4 since the CI4 uses lighter materials that bow. Also the 4K holds more line. For that rod i'd use the Stradic FK 4K.

    my rod is the same specs but is the 14', I feel it can handle 2oz, haven't tried anything above
    your tica/shimano combo in this looks beautifully balanced!
    I usually use my battle 2 4000 (even though it's VERY unbalanced and hurts me) because I get ridiculous range with my 10# braid, I've used my stradic 5000 on it and it's perfect! But I don't like range on it because it's Spooled with 30# jbraid
    if I could buy a another spool I would

      Either the 5K or the 4K is great. But in this case i went with the 5K. I have 15# J-Braid on the 5K. My 4K CI4 has 10# J-Braid on a 10'9" TX40 Okuma SS which is perfect.

    sup scuba chris,
    quick question, would this setup be good with whipping grubs? whats the benefits of using braided line versus mono line on the reel?

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  7 лет назад +1

      I feel the 5K is great for small lures to grubs. Big enough to handle most larger hits & larger lures as well. I no longer will use TICs. Every model i had had guide corrosion problems. The 5K would be good for whipping rods 12/13ft MH i feel. 9-11ft a smaller unit would be good.
      I like braid for whipping. Cast longer then equivalent mono sizes. Also less wind resistance & you can get more line on the spool. The advantage mono has is the line will stretch as braid won't. Mono is also cheaper. All is personal preference.

    you say that WD-40 is not needed at 6:40, you should never spray WD-40 because this is a cleaning agent and actually will destroy and disintegrated the grease, got to be careful. I would only use it to clean bearings and remove old grease from disassembled psrts, it's not a lubricant! just a heads up!

    for jigging ofshore, which one is bettter, Shimano Twin Power SW TP14000SWBXG vs stella sw STL14000SWBXG, maybe another stella whith a diferent spedd ? 5.7:1 or 4.9:1

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  7 лет назад

      For jigging i really like reels with higher max drag. For smaller fish i like higher retrieval rated reels, larger species lower retrieval rated as i need more boosting lift power. Hard to beat SW "Salt Water". Read the descriptions & reviews to see if it's truly sealed like Alan Hawk to RUclips. I have a Twin Powers but not a Stella so hard for me to make a true comparison. My views are if the stats match-up within your budget then it's a winner (also if it's a Shimano). Lol. But i must admit on the boat i tend to use Penn. Shoreline is Shimano. Penns have heavier gearing & body construction whereas Shimanos tend to be lighter. Yes, smaller spools might help as well. I'd say if it's within your budget get the Stella. Poorer blokes like myself are happy with the TP (until a viewer decides to bless me with a Stella-lol).

      The TICA is rated for 8-12lb line and has a lure weight rating of 3/8-3/4oz. I use 1/2oz for spin casting, feels it can easily handle more but i'm ok going light.
