I am Turkish American and I took my American friends to Turkey few years ago. We were eating and my friend went to bathroom and did not come back for awhile. I went to check on him. I saw him sitting in the kitchen and having conversation with employees. Funny thing was my friend could not speak Turkish and the employee did not speak English but they were having so much fun. They were showing how they cook Turkish food. My friend just loved every bit of it.

Wow, what a nice and generous man to pay for your pide!! The whistling is just like the Guanche from the Canary Islands. They know now that the Guanche were Berbers (from DNA) - so I wonder if there is some sort of ancient connection to this part of Turkey. Then again, now that you say that they've been doing it there in Turkey since around 1500....well, that's when the Guanche were wiped out by the Spanish. I wonder if any escaped? Or maybe there's no connection, and it's just a coincidence. Nah...I'll bet there's some connection. REALLY interesting. I love Turkey!

Sürmene Pide is the best but every region has a different version. Especially the local cheese types will give different flavors and the minced version in other areas will have more seasoning.

There are really interesting foods in Giresun. Ask some locals, and i believe they will invite you to their home to taste or at least will cook for you. Try List: karalahana çorbası, Tavuk Mantarı, Dible, Turşu Kavurması, Kiraz veya Taflan Kavurması, Kadayıf

My hometown is Görele and right now i'm just here for a few days. If you will visit Görele in summer period, you can have a great seaside camping experience. Well, there is a local ice cream and cookie in that town. I strongly recommend them also. (In Turkish: Köy Dondurması and Kesme Pasta) It is a very cheap destination for all UK people to taste very delicious foods and experiencing the nature. Görele is not only offering seasider experience but also great highlander experience. (Sorry Scottish mates, lol)
