      @@NatGeo that humans are truly complex and though he probably was an above average ruthless leader, he was a genius and Visionary in building.

      @@davenwajiuba5199 The thing about that is he was ruthless, so who knows who really came up with his ideas?
      If it was someone else they were not going to question Herod for taking credit.

    Augustus Caesar and Herod the Great are both great builders during their reigns because of extensive building projects and architectural transformations they have made.

    The tomb found probably belongs to Herod. Red is associated with royalty and the gems and artifacts buried with him after his death were probably looted by rebels who hated his subservience to Rome.

    Herod supported Mark Anthony at the beginning of the triumvirate, but like every shrewd politician, he switched allegiances when he saw that the political winds were blowing in Augustus's favor.

    Herod was certainly paranoid. By the end of his reign, he had gone mad and blind, (probably caused by the terrible things he had inflicted on his wife and children).

    • @gregraygun
      @gregraygun 8 дней назад +1

      I don't think it was because of what he inflicted on others, that's all fiction, there is no atonement, he was ruthless to the end, and certainly not some type of karma, although we like to think that. What was the average life expectancy, wasn't there many who suffered ailments in that time?

    • @gregedmand9939
      @gregedmand9939 7 дней назад

      Or more likely... He poisoned himself, like so many ultra wealthy of that time: by consuming far too much lead tainted wine. Added to that were the many quack cures and long life potions, being investigated by doctors, that contained mercury. The people who could afford these nostrums were again the very wealthy.

    • @gregedmand9939
      @gregedmand9939 7 дней назад +4

      Herod most likely suffered the malady very common to the ultra wealthy of his time: mental illness due to his intake of toxins. Leaded wine was a common drink available to the rich. So were "medicines" and long-life potions containing mercury and other toxic metals. Add those things to the stress of being an unpopular ruler, can and did result in people like Caligula, Nero and possibly Herod.

    The guy trying to dispute the tomb says the site isn't "Royal". Well, if there's a more Royal site, why wasn't it found while searching for the site for years?
    And as far as the gold and jewels, the tomb raiders that smashed the sarcophagus would have made off with that.
    That doesn't make sense.

    Its the sims 3 build music for me (e.g min 35.. 35:30)... on a doc that gets into king Herod's master builder quality and the mammoth constructions throughout his reign...though odd jovial placement at min 37 after they talk about Netzer's death. Lol

  • @travisfox5034
    @travisfox5034 4 дня назад

    It would make sense for the tomb to be of Miriam and the sons he had put to death. Her tomb would be ornate as a queen. But Herod wouldn't have been buried with others. And as monumental as he liked to build, I would have seen him building at the top of the staircase even before some three person tomb on the side of the hill.

    The premise of publishing scientific data is that your academic peer group replicate the results of your experiment, thus establishing your data's veracity. In archeology, the stones are there; hence, your thesis that it belongs to "him/her" is what is attacked. The point is to render your "it's his/hers" point as flatulent BS. And that is what this video is about.

    The Western Wall in NOT the most sacred site for the Jews. It is simply the closest one can get to pray to the holy of holies that was in the heart of the Jewish Temple. This is the area under the Dome of the Rock - muslim colonisers built their place of worship on top of other people's holy sites, just like they did and still do all over the world.
