Well Stu, I've been working on this for about 2 months now and i am very close to making the swing, almost every time I swing now. I have to say that this swing.is fantastic! I cannot hit it better than I am right now, I think. I hit one of the best looking shots I've ever hit two days ago. It just flew 30ft high and then it started going up and up, I'd seen this type of ball flight at the Buick Open back in the 1970's, i forget who hit it, but i havent been that excited in a long time. At wew23
Hi, I have followed your videos for 2 months , very different from others. I am 72 years old , playing 3 times a week for the last 18 years ,for me your hand path in the downswing was a revelation when copying. Thank you.
This is the Mike Malaska move, "over the top from the inside" or race car hitting the apex of the corner before turning around it, are the two other analogies that he commonly uses i.e the heavy club head is allowed to overtake the light handle naturally to allow squaring and acceleration of the club head. All good.
Well done to Mike Malaska! Glad you enjoyed my video, not familiar with MM's work. I steer clear of all golf coaches content. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Best wishes Stu 😊

The swinging part was what was missing from my understanding and was lucky enough to feel that in our lesson last week. I think you are helping a lot of people enjoy their golf mate.
Best explanation of how the club head connects to the hand path. I was one who was told inside the path , 4;30 line , hit to right field . I always felt no control of the club face the further my hand went from my body in the dynamic aera of the impsct. You explanation brings the hands in during this aera giving so much more control and less room for manipulation of the club face to hit it square.
Your broom series has now explained to me the success I experienced when I tried throwing my hands at the ball... combined with keeping everything else relatively quiet. Thankyou!
Looks like I better start saving up for the most expensive dinner I’ve ever paid for! Have taken away many key elements from many of the videos. The swing portion of this video, the early extension pipe drill, but the number one has been the grip. Started spraying things to the right this morning after what was a great session. Sure enough, looked down and instead of resting on the pad, I had gone all the way to the end and the handle was in the palm. Early extension was a symptom. You’re truly a mad scientist and I dig it! Thank you so much. I’ll get started saving up. Simon has to fit me if I come over! Take care!
NWH treat your good lady wife to dinner, this will make me happy Sir. So happy all the pieces are coming together. The majesty of the game comes from the grip, a good grip, many fail to know what that is, sounds like you know do. Everything ripples from there; I have a video coming out later this week that will blow your socks off buddy, hold tight. Mastery is coming 😂😊Best wishes Stu
After 20+ years of seeking the truth - copying the style of various masters of the game, this is a real eye opening - the flow feels so smooooth - now it must be trained to become a muscle reflex - love it already. Thank you!!
Another excellent explanation of how the golf swing works using a broom to visualize it better. So you’re saying we should not work on our swing path 😂. Thanks, again, Stuart, for the education lesson. I’ve said it before, when I try to swing from the inside I always slice, so I just don’t do it. All of us get so much bad information on YT, and I’m no exception. We should all think of YT golf instructions in the same way as we do a Google search - more than 80% is either half truths or completely wrong. Cheers.
I have devoured tripe after tripe of golf instruction for many years and my grip has been neutral and I have always struggled with too much spin. Short shots on wedges long irons that go high so I am working like hek to make it feel good. What made it click was the handle pressure that I have never felt. I have a indoor net and I can instantly feel the crispness of strike. I can't thank you enough now I just need to put in the work. Thanks alot.
As Stuart knows I have struggled for a long time with a big inside to out path at impact which has led to massive inconsistencies of strike as I try to save it with the hands (and more often than not fat it). I have been using the broom for the last few weeks and as a consequence have a much cleaner back yard, but also I am seeing definite improvements (although still need to get the driver a bit straighter). Many golf coaches talk about "turning the corner" by which they mean getting the handle to move left and back around your lead hip (assuming you are right handed). For me the explanation of how the grip moves in the early stages of the downswing - out and down - makes so much more sense, it creates so much more room to allow me to swing the grip around my lead hip. Must get broom out to back yard again, but no doubt Stuart will tell me I have misunderstood!!
Sir, this is such a brilliant video! Realizing that as the club is released that it swings from in to out is a game changer mentally for me. It allows me to move my hands more at the ball target line as you prescribe! Keep up the good work!
Such great news this has given you a Iight bulb moment - in to in is preferred but understanding how in to out is delivered is a real game changer. Check out my club path I video for even more insights. Best wishes Stu 😊
Stuart, I came across your videos. Outstanding! I am 67, still in decent shape, but can muster only 180 yards off the tee. Hopefully, the broom drill can help generate more club head speed and squared up face. It may take some time.
Thank you so much Jeff! I have a client in hit late seventies bitty 170 with six iron and he is stick thin, plenty of speed out there for you Sir. Please work through my videos, will gain speed and distance I promise. Best wishes Stu 😊
Steward you have me amazed! Thanks for the broom videos. Just watched them and was able to test and practice movements on the range. Many bits and pieces klicked to finally form a picture.
Dan Alton Golf calls this hitting the "fold point" of your hands. Same results of broom drill. Dan is excellent and your broom drill brings it to an even better light.

A Small version, driver size with golf grip and broom end. Call them the stu broom you would sweep the competition 49.99. Hah. Stu this is really fantastic like the way you explain everything.
That is a great video. I see a lot of Joe Nichols and malaska teachings there. Mike leaves out the out pull move, and I’ve never been able to make the down as swing work, because it hasn’t loaded properly. Mystery solved. After you stopped the piece approach and put them together I see the malaska bottom move. Makes total sense. Thanks, Alan
Love the vids thanks. Given you are seemingly the only coach teaching these things, I would love to see you in a discussion with another coach or on a podcast.
Good coaching indeed. Thanks. Something to work on as I am one of those that push the ball to the right, not being able to bring the club back to square.
Brilliant / one more golfer moving away from this inside out nonsense. Enjoy the freedom, speed and ball speed coming your way! Let me know how you get on. Best wishes Stu
Hi Stu, have re visited this after many months , and of course this makes sense . The piece that is very diffcult to perform (as you show almost in 2 stages ) ..is the handle pull directly out, then the drop of rhe hands to get club swinging ...in the split second of a downswing thess 2 moves are very hard for me to feel seperately ..i feel one, or the other ...do you have a drill to combine those two forces (movements ) into a single piece/feeling ...thanks in advance , Rick
The broom series alone won’t do it Richard, I would check out my leg action videos to help. One video or drill won’t cut it I’m afraid. Best wishes Stu.
Hi Stu! I rewatched this again (3rd time). Can I ask you a feel question? When you pull the club “high” with hands leading, at what point in the swing do you “feel” like you’re pulling the handle back towards your body? The reason I ask…is because if you pull them back too fast before you complete the pull, it seems like you lose the pull power and some of the shaft lean and aoa. Is the answer light after the pull during the swing phase? I know the goal of this fluidity, just trying to understand the sequencing a bit better. Thanks again for your responses.
Stu, just found this.... Have been working hard on your tips on my hand path and want to check one thing with you. I assume a big problem for a lot of us is that we naturally expect to get to ball impact with the hands (roughly) in front of us, whereas your vids suggest that the hands should feel like they've come in and gone around as we strike the ball? This would explain my previous woes because I reckon my head thoughts have had me staying parallel to target for too long and then early extending due to poor hand path?
If thats a change in concept then you will definitely be moving forwards. As to what you are doing I obviously cant comment Lee sadly. Hope the video helps though! Best wishes Stu
Brilliant! I was struggling with figuring out the pull direction, honestly was going to try pulling more towards the area between the ball and my feet, but thanks to this video my problem is more likely that I wasn’t pulling the handle towards the ball enough causing the face issues you spoke of with inside out. Thank you again!
So happy this made it all tie up. I’ve had a few ask a few poignant questions which allowed me to paint this picture of broom part 3. Really please it’s help join the dots Kyle. Thanks as ever for sharing Sir. Best wishes Stu 😊
Hi Stuart. By applying what you are teaching my irons and driving have definitely improved. In your videos it appears that you are pulling the handle to a spot above the ball instead at the ball. Can you clarify? Thank you.
@@rlacapria well noticed!! I try to pull as high as I can in transition. At the ball still feels too low to me, but to ask people to do that would be even more outrageous than what I’m already suggesting! 😂😂So so happy you are playing improved golf Sir. Makes me so happy. Best wishes Stu 😊
Wow thanks for responding so quickly. I also wanted to mention that I paid over $100 for a video program from one of the best known golf coaches because I couldn’t stop slicing my driver. His method was to swing from the inside to out and then flip your hands. I tried it, but my heart wasn’t in it because it seemed more like a fix or a medicine then a cure and I don’t wanna play golf that way. Watching your videos have clarified the right way to swing the club.
@@rlacapria I’m glad you’re now here Sir / and most importantly you have stopped applying those faulty theories. Hopefully your golf is now on the up and up and low scores coming your way!
when we pull the handle forward ,should the butt end should point towards the the ball or parallel to the ball or it doesn't it matter , I love all your different techniques with broom to improve our games . Thanks
Thank you for your fantastic content. I understand the handle pull phase away from the body, followed by the pressure on the handle which brings handle in and towards left leg, followed by the swinging club head past the hands. I assume the hips and body are turned left by the left leg straightening? My question is when in the pull, handle pressure and club head swinging past hands sequence should the left leg straighten?
Hi Mel, may thanks for your kind feedback, hugely grateful. I would advise you to watch a video with the thumbnail "you must pull the club" which will detail when to straighten the leg and many other of my "leg action" videos for more clarity. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu 😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching Hi Stu, just watched the suggested video. If I understand it correctly the pull starts the sequence, the left leg straightens into the left heel next which drags the handle down and towards the left leg. The swinging of the club head pass the hands is last in sequence and may need to be fine tuned based of shape in the sky, too early and ball goes left, too late and ball goes right. . .
I really think the pressure on the handle is the key missing piece. Completely changes the paradigm on how the ball really needs to be hit. It feels so awkward with this 'over the top' feeling but because the club head exits back inside, you get both the in-out-in path as well as the downward strike needed for compression. Thank you!!! 🎉🎉
@@GoodGolfCoaching Ball striking has been great so far in terms of feeling 'compression.' It was always hard for me to understand how from the arms out position (that you emphasize to be necessary) in the downswing right after transition to get the club head back onto the ball. But simply pulling the handle back into the original position really seem to achieve that goal with ease.
@@lomonso6346 the arms out I encourage is to push golfers away from arms done; pulling the arms is key. Make sure the feet are working and the direction of pull will really develop. Hope that helps my friend and great insights! Best wishes Stu 😊
With these broom drills, I imagine a club head at the end of the broom. Perhaps attaching a club head to the base of your broom for better visualization? Great drills.
Hey Stuart. You are talking a lot about the weight of the club and clubhead. Do you then recommend to have a heavier swing weight on the clubs to feel it more?
Florian, hello Sir, yes, yes and yes. The more weight the more you’ll be able to embrace the dynamics until the weight feels too much to handle. Hope that makes sense? Best wishes Stu
Stuart - you are one of a kind ! At the end of the video you say “ as soon as you up the weight … ”. Are you saying we should have heavy golf clubs ? Can you clarify this ? (I have 105 gram iron shafts). THANKS !
Hey Bill - I believe heavier is better than lighter, that’s as far as I’d push my point. To what extent will ultimately depend on what you’re working on and where you’re at with your understanding. I don’t wish to be evasive, but if you like how I coach and follow my advice, definitely go heavier, you’ll become way more proficient. Hope that helps? Best wishes Stu 😊
100% heavier!!! I will give you the short version. If you are physically strong heavy clubs can transform your swing. How about 135 yd carry 8 iron to 160+! using a heavy feeling Club head.
I would work on leg action, because you have now fired up your levers, and chest, sounds like your feet are two step behind. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu
Very interesting set of videos Stuart. Im open to new ideas, although this is quite the opposite of what ive been working on and what coaches such as AMG and Monte Scheinblum advocate. When you demonstrate keeping back to target and lowering the arms, would radial deviation and left wrist flexion not keep the club shallow? Are you saying this isnt necessary and instead just have confidence in the grip and hand path / keeping the handle low through the downswing to keep shallow enough as well as control the face? I also noticed on a few of your shorts where you are working on the broom drills, you move to the top and shallow the club, pause and then swing. It would be great to get your insight on this as well! Great videos
Dan - I don’t advocate keeping back to the target, not at all, Sir. Radial Dev and Left Wrist flexion are all present when you move the pressure in the handle as I describe. The shaft never steepened, other than in take away and until the arms reached their peak height in the backswing, when load on the shaft in transition in conjunction with the foot pressure the body will rotate and mobilise. I am not familiar with either coaches you’re working with but I hope I have shown you an alternative. Best wishes Stu.
Thanks Stuart, I will definitely experiment here for sure. AMG use Gears to show what is actually happening movement wise, but clearly different feels and intentions can get you there and I find this approach interesting. I have a reasonably strong left hand grip and I'm finding I'm hitting pulls, which if I've taken enough in from your videos may mean I'm still trying to actively close the face where it may not be needed to the same degree any more?
Absolutely!! GEARS is very interesting, unfortunately it’s based on what your players do, and I don’t subscribe to the fact they should be used as base models. Such a huge topic why that’s the case and I don’t wish to disclose that publicly but suffice to say, players are coached by who….? Anyway, hope you find what you’re looking for my friend. 😊
Recently discovered your videos and find your teaching style to be a breath of fresh air compared to the majority of “coaching” on RUclips. Probably very difficult to answer but would be interested to know what your first port of call would be for a player who has relatively neutral face and path but is consistently striking out of the toe. Asking for a friend 😊
Last time on simulator with 7 iron I was around 3 down, slightly out to in and face pretty neutral. Producing very functional shots however the toe bias on the strike starts to hurt me much more with longer clubs. Interestingly driver is significantly up at around 6-7 degrees. When I toe one of them it goes left quickly! Thanks for replying, I know the answer is to get a proper lesson, I’ll look you up on Skillest
@@byrnes19821 so you’re hitting a pull - and up 6 would absolutely point to a weak hold. I reckon your hall position is back in your stance too with your irons. Yep, a lesson would be easier. And by the sounds of it, wouldn’t take much to fix. Hope that helps.
Hi Stuart I have a dreadful fear of pulling the club outwards toward the ball because I am a life long shanker . Any advice would be welcome. Love your videos.
James I can completely understand that. Please please watch my most recent “club path” video, this will absolutely help. When you do strike the ball, what shape do you hit? And do you take a divot?
@@jamestolan6218 ok this is good insight; “most likely” have a very strong right hand, and a week left hand. Check out my grip series, fix this first. If the right hand (grip) is placed at the base of the fingers, get it more in the tips of the fingers, this will stop the hook. Then, you will be able to shift the handle left without the fear of the ball hooking, which is why, even if you pull the handle forwards in transition, it won’t work for you as the face is hook/closing aggressively and causes the handle to still push to the right at strike making you shank. Hope that makes sense.
Sorry, posting again. Amazing that all the Golfing Machine and Stack & Tilt guys do not teach what you teach. This is incredible information that I continue to soak up and then go into my back yard and practice.
Bless you Jeff; I’m not familiar with coaching systems out there, this has all been holistically bread and tried to not be polluted by poor ideology from the masses. Hope that makes sense 😊 - thank you so much for the wonderful feedback Sir.
@intelligentgolfperformance Stuart, that was my big mistake. I sought out a system and tried so many of them with zero success. You, my friend, have given me a new life at golf. I play tomorrow and will be curious how I do with the new information. I will let you know.
Funny, but I get the best compression with a very shallow angle of attack and a fair amount of shaft lean. Everything goes into the ball and spin is very low so you get bombs.
Off to the range who cares if its raining with all this lovely info to have a go at ,,cheers ,,i expect you will be mucking out the horse with Barni later ,,😂
Certainly gives more power and a consistent ball flight and distance ,,as i got more into the flow i found myself really pulling the handle which in turn made my left hip turn nicely oug of the way ,,this and the last theraband and ball drill really work hand in hand ,,will keep these two as my practice drills until i see you next time ,,just practiced with a wedge today ,,so got great divot interaction ,,just had to be mindful not to disturb my posture too much ,,so as notvto take too heavy a divot ,,chears bud
I am more than comfortable for you to believe that my friend; I believe differently but thankfully, different views and opinions makes the world go round 😊
Wait wait wait .... how are you not pulling the ball? I've gotta try it and get back to you. This feels like a pull, which is powerful and you can play but you're aiming right and pulling it down the line. But ... I'll review first. : )
If you have seen the video all the way through, you'll see the path is not going left band the face is not looking left. You believe it will be pulled because like many, you believe the handle moving forward in transition is over the top. Let me know how you get on, but as demonstrated, it would deliver a pull. Best wishes Stu 😊
OK, Stu. I promise to never, ever, ever, ever, ... ever, ever, ... ever, ever, ... ever, ever, ever, ever, ... ever! work on my club path again. Can I stay in the building, please?
Can you spend more time talking about the solution. Your Video is confusing with the interchange between what’s good versus what’s bad. I like your theory and I think you could do better spending two thirds of the video on the “good stuff”

Love these videos. Handle moving down is exactly what I have been working and it squares the clubface so much easier.
Brilliant / thanks so much for sharing Nathan, really appreciate it. Best wishes Stu. 😊
Fascinating and inspiring. Can't wait to give this a try.
Thanks John, let me know how you get on! Best wishes Stu
Have no idea how it is that you don't have a gajillion followers. Love it! Oh, and I did find that good coaching.
Hopefully I’ll get to a gajillion 😂😂started in November, fingers crossed the channel keeps growing. 😊
Sadly words can’t answer. Not to be evasive but, it’s different for all. But hoping you can find your way with what the video offers.
Morning Stuart, looking forward to this.
I was excited to share it too 😊
Once again a brilliant video giving a great understanding of what we should be doing 👍
Thank you so much, really appreciate the feedback. Best wishes Stu 😊
Can't wait to work on this! Thank you Sir!
Fantastic, please let me know how you get on! Best wishes Stu 😊
You crazy ..sod ...hhhaaa ..keep it up ..thanks that really was funny but 100% spot on ..cheers Stu..
Im off To N Ireland for a few weeks ..
Haha thanks Graham, enjoy my friend!
Man that broom is gonna make you a legend
Haha well I’ll certainly know where people got it from when I see someone using it. 😊
Thanks
Hey Jay - pull the handle towards the hall to target line as described. Hope that helps 😊
The swinging of the club head pass the hands is last in sequence and may need to be fine tuned based of shape in the sky, too early and ball goes left, too late and ball goes right.
.
.
Yes Sir!
Another classic Stuart, 👏
Thanks so much Andy!
My pleasure my friend - do let me know how you get on and any questions you may have! Best wishes Stu 😊
Where does the Swing Plane , fit into the brooms motion ?
Depends how you define swing plane?
Excellent, 14:25, 18:29
Thank you Billy - appreciated Sir.
Very interesting, will try tomorrow
Fantastic, let me know how you go, keen to hear! Best wishes Stu
HI, swing to the left, swing in_ to-in, dragging the handle to the left side have relation with this drill?
Yes Sir - spot on! Best wishes Stu 😊
With these broom drills, I imagine a club head at the end of the broom. Perhaps attaching a club head to the base of your broom for better visualization? Great drills.
If you wish to do so, sure. I think the club face gives perfect visualisation. But if you feel it would help, be my guest!
@@GoodGolfCoaching makes total sense. Thank you! Keep up the great content
@@florianbagnoli8237 Pleasure Sir, and thank you, will endeavour to do so..
Thank you Stuart !
100% heavier!!! I will give you the short version. If you are physically strong heavy clubs can transform your swing. How about 135 yd carry 8 iron to 160+! using a heavy feeling Club head.
Hi stu, the pulling is using arms or shoulder? When I use arms, I feel my hands. And the wrist came into play. Any solutions? Thanks
I would work on leg action, because you have now fired up your levers, and chest, sounds like your feet are two step behind. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu
Thank you
Pleasure
awesome, huge detailed. thank you
My pleasure Craig, hope it helped my friend!
Good stuff....thanks for posting
Pleasure Steven - glad you enjoyed.
My first question would be; what is your Angle of Attack if you have a neutral face and path?
Mostly hopk and in to out shallow divot.
Thanks a million Stuart for taking the time to answer my enquiry. I will let you know how I get on. Best regards James.
@@jamestolan6218 my pleasure James
Handle down, club- head out, allows the momentum of the club-head to stay on plane, and the grip squares the club face
Amen brother. #truth
What length of broom are you working with
It’s around 4ft in length Adam.
Did you cut the broom handle down to the size ? Or can they be purchased that way
No Sir, its about 4.5feet in length and definitely didnt cut it down. The longer the better. Best wishes Stu
Doesn't this happen naturally as you're rotating around your torso?
Absolutely not. Best wishes Stu 😊
Oh my god .i love this vidéo..❤
Thank you Olie! Grateful for the kind feedback my friend. Best wishes Stu 😊
How did you get on Jeff??
Brilliant 👍
Thanks so much Diggers!!!
Funny, but I get the best compression with a very shallow angle of attack and a fair amount of shaft lean. Everything goes into the ball and spin is very low so you get bombs.
Excellent to hear! Best wishes Stu 😊
Haven't watched yet, but based on the thumbnail, how did the date go? Better than a vacuum cleaner or ...?
Less suction than a vacuum cleaner but way better sweep. Thanks for asking!
Off to the range who cares if its raining with all this lovely info to have a go at ,,cheers ,,i expect you will be mucking out the horse with Barni later ,,😂
Hahaha my next job!! Let me know how you go Graham and enjoy!! 😊🙌
Brooms mucking out. Getting Steptoe vibes…..upgrade from Eric and Ernie incoming Monday 😂
Hahaha can’t beat a hit of Eric and Ernie! 😂
Certainly gives more power and a consistent ball flight and distance ,,as i got more into the flow i found myself really pulling the handle which in turn made my left hip turn nicely oug of the way ,,this and the last theraband and ball drill really work hand in hand ,,will keep these two as my practice drills until i see you next time ,,just practiced with a wedge today ,,so got great divot interaction ,,just had to be mindful not to disturb my posture too much ,,so as notvto take too heavy a divot ,,chears bud
it is so hard to combine these 3 steps smoothly.
Reps. That’s all. Reps.
Would love to see this with a club hitting balls
I did this at the end of the video Ken 😊
12:49 of a 20 minute video (as far as I made it ) telling us what we shouldn't do ... Unleashing your potential ??
Not sure what the question is?
Every pro hands goes straight down and not out, watch any slow mo video of any of them
I am more than comfortable for you to believe that my friend; I believe differently but thankfully, different views and opinions makes the world go round 😊
This is the missing link in golf instructions.
Bless you, have you seen the other two videos with the broom? Best wishes Stu 😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching Tripod arrived today so I'll shoot some video ... hopefully today.
OK, Stu. I promise to never, ever, ever, ever, ... ever, ever, ... ever, ever, ... ever, ever, ever, ever, ... ever! work on my club path again. Can I stay in the building, please?
Hahah seeing as you asked so nicely, yes you can 😂😂😊😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching 😁
Can you spend more time talking about the solution. Your Video is confusing with the interchange between what’s good versus what’s bad. I like your theory and I think you could do better spending two thirds of the video on the “good stuff”
Always trying to get better my friend and taken your points on board. Many thanks. Best Wishes Stu 😊
“Absolute garbage”
😆
Haha true story 😂
Zzzz
Thanks Joe!
What a fantastic explanation.
Thank you Sir!
Yes but around the 15 min mark, the left wrist looks completely cupped. Surely that’s wrong ?
Why must it be wrong?
@@GoodGolfCoaching because no good player to the elite level has a or looks like to have a cupped left wrist ? Unless camera angles are wrong.
If that’s your belief I’m not going to try and convince you if the video didn’t. Good luck with your golf!
Golf can make us crazy sometimes
Yes it can, especially when someone so simple can reap huge rewards 😋
Can you use a normal kitchen broom with this drill? 🐊🏌🇺🇸
Absolutely, but you’ll benefit from something heavier…. Either way, the kitchen broom will be a great start!
