I remember reading a book by Adel Davis, the renowned Nutritionist/Biochemist. She said that during an experiment in 1950s, obese people placed on restricted diets seemed to be resistant to weight loss, until olive oil was added to their diet. They readily lost pounds of water and then fat, over the test period.
My Grandpa did that, drank a glass of sea water everyday (when water was much less polluted) and ate a garlic clove everyday. He lived to 98. Not too bad!
New subscriber here❤. I've changed my diet recently and appreciate your content. I just sipped my olive oil. No peppery burn, yikes! Loved the research on the olive oil that you presented.
@@sylviaskinner6849 I also heard that no oil is good, not even olive oil (Dr. Joel Fuhrman). You hear a lot and every research result is refuted by another research result. For this reason, I think the research is not reliable. So what should we do? I think we are just imitating the lifestyle of places where people are healthy and live a long time. :)
So many Doctors on youtube, so many different answers. There's no real research when these Doctors make a claim. There might be an observational study but it's not legitimate. Go with what has been working for eons...whole food. Don't eat processed or ultra processed food.
I hope you see this... So, I generally get the California olive ranch oil for cooking but for the past 2 yrs I've been getting Vasselakis Estate premium (award winning) for finishing or dressing. It is SOOO good (but costly) that it has spoiled me. I have tried many other EVOO's that have good ratings and they just taste awful to me (or no taste at all) now. So I have the terra creta that you recommended in my shopping cart and they only have the 3L available but before hitting the buy button for a larger amount, I wanted to ask you... do you find the terra creta to have a good flavor for dressing/finishing? The vasselakis has a great fruity taste.
Try paesanol organic unfiltered also, I've been using this one for a few years and it's worked wonders for high blood pressure and inflammation..it's very green and viscous,it also burns the back of my throat so u know it's packed with polyphenols
My favorite olive oil right now is the Terra Creta brand. We visited their production facility in Crete in the Spring and they are very focused on quality. Their olive oil is on Amazon at a very good price if you get the 3 liters. Here is a link: www.amazon.com/dp/B00KROTNAW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I buy Partanna from Silicia (Sicily.) But it is really expensive now. Almost 50.00. special occasions in salad olive oil for dressing only. Maybe I'll try that Athena for the shot of olive oil. falls
I understand there may be benefits in drinking EVOO in the morning and I take a swig before going to bed too. What pressing would you recommend? I’m not sure you can get the same benefits that you suggest, it really depends on your health. If you compared someone whose obese to a skinny super fit decathlete, would you see the same benefits.
Question: I buy the same olive oil you use. Played your video to my husband (I use olive oil all the time, he doesn’t). His question was how long does olive oil stay “fresh”? I told him how it’s labeled on the canister, but he thinks it a “best buy” date. Could you please clarify it for him so he understands? My explanation wasn’t good enough. 😅 Must be a man thing 🤷♀️
So, the olive oil council says you have two years from the time you open the oil, but I say you want to use it as soon as possible because when the oil is fresh is when the peppery burn and that is the anti-inflammatory property that is so important.
There are some ways to potentially avoid phthalates in olive oil. 1) buy in dark glass bottles. Don't store in plastic. 2) Purchase from companies that are transparent about their processing methods. 3) Purchase organic if possible
Many years ago an elderly Greek gentleman told me that Extra Virgin olive oil should not burn the throat, it should be smooth to drink. I wonder who was right, the old Greek or You!
What evidence do you have for this? I would be interested to see it. The reason for the increased obesity in the Med appears to be a change in dietary habits away from the traditional healthy diet to junk food. The benefits of Med. Diet still hold good but you need to follow it to benefit.
@@ChrisJohnson-pd4hh The data is all over the Internet. If cause is that they changed their diet then obviously the original diet is still effective. I think a combination of Mediterranean diet, and 8-12 intermittent fasting is brilliant and effective.
Yes, this has all happened recently and it is very closely tied to the increased intake of processed foods into the diet. This is much more prevalent in the big cities and not so much in the small villages where they still eat the traditional Mediterranean Diet.

Yes, but I need to add bread, garlic, black pepper and some parm, now I am happy. Tks! So glad I found your Channel.

I just bought the ATHENA Brand. Near 18 Bucks. Made in 1 area of Greece. Felt that Peppery burn.
Love the taste! Need to lose just 10 more pounds.
I eat a couple of tomatoes every night, which I salt beforehand, add basil and oregano and drizzle with either olive oil or grape seed oil.
Delicious!
@@Mediterraneanliving Is grapeseed oil good too or just olive oil?
I heard grapeseed or any seed oil is not good.

Hi. Thank you for the great info. I've been looking on Amazon. Would you know the taste difference between the green and blue tin? Thank you
Thank you!
Can you recommend a trustworthy brand of EVOO? I find it completely overwhelming trying to find one
How fresh does it have to be. I live in Mexico now and the only access that I have found is Costco
I buy Partanna from Silicia (Sicily.) But it is really expensive now. Almost 50.00. special occasions in salad olive oil for dressing only. Maybe I'll try that Athena for the shot of olive oil. falls
How do I know which EVOO to buy? There are so many choices. 😮
How much olive oil is in a shot? I would like to start taking it.
1 to 1.5 ozs
Good luck. trying to find an olive oil that was not adulterated.
I teaspoon or tablespoon
@@richardpauly1635a tablespoon is slightly less than a shot glass
Do you take in the morning or evening?
Can you recommend a good extra virgin olive oil for residents in the United Kingdom?
Get the ones from Italy
You have to get an EVOO from one source… mainly, Italy and Costco has a Kirkland brand that is 100% EVO oil from Italy… no added oils
I am unsure what olive oil to use, there are so many options just want the best I can get and afford and still get the benefits from it

What about organic extra virgins olive oil. Oevoo
It is impossible that avarage person in greece consumes 2 liters olive oil in a month.
What brands of Extra Virgin Olive Oil do you recommend?
Read the book Extra Virginity. unfortunately, there's a huge percentage of olive oil that is not what it claims to be.
Ok
Many years ago an elderly Greek gentleman told me that Extra Virgin olive oil should not burn the throat, it should be smooth to drink. I wonder who was right, the old Greek or You!
If it doesnt burn your throat it means that it doesnt have enough polyphenol. So a nice quality extra virgin olive oil definetly burns your throat.

first press? there is no second press of olive oil. anymore than there is a second press of grapes or a second press of oranges or tomatoes.
The second, third press of grapes gives us Wine Vinegar.
And yes there's a second press of olives.
hi what is different between Pomace olive oil and Mediterranean olive oil?
the used olive type .
