Honestly, I feel like CW Menasor works as a sort of "barrel-chested, misshapen ogre" kind of menace. He's a mid-game spectacle boss you fight to establish how far you've come and how far you've yet to go.
We have both Motormaster and White Optimus, they're honestly solid. The ability to invert the elbows or have the combined head out in small mode are both really nice for doing wacky combination stuff!
Another thing about the fixed version: they loosened the shoulders because on the original and the op they were so tight it felt like you would break it while trying to move the arms. I remember when I got the optimus and the fixed motor master way back when realizing how overly tight the ratchets were on optimus
This toy mold leads me to believe that AOE Galvatron is just another thing that was originally meant to be something else (Motormaster) but it was changed because people’s predictions were true… which is a wasted opportunity because I’d personally love to see a combiner with the KSI bots form into Menasor with the transformium cubes floating into a single mass before the reveal. This blows my mind because everything they needed was already in the movie. Galvatron would be Motormaster, Stinger would be Deadend, and the other drones appeared in colours similar to the G1 team (Blue = Breakdown, Yellow = Dragstrip, and White = Wildrider).
Man, I’ve been watching the Bay directed movies again in an effort to be less cynical to them. Watched Age of Extinction most recently and that mess is just way too freaking long. What you post appears a valid take. I agree. Have to say, with trying to be as objective and open to those first five flicks, the only one that approaches “good” IMO is Dark of the Moon. Still gotta find The Last Knight… and I recall Cogman being the only entertaining bit of that one. Anyway, I appreciate your post and I’m glad Bay is no longer directing any TF movies. Movies have certainly improved with Bay out as director.
I have the Unite Warriors version of Motormaster, honestly not that bad of a mold. I’m honestly torn between which deco looks the best, between this mostly light gray/black vs the black/really dark brownish color. Neat toy though
SND's Primo Ex-Mortis add-on makes for a _wicked_ looking conversion into Nova Prime. Unfortunately, I've heard that the add-on makes the resulting figure super fiddly/more than normal.
Funny enough, the stunticons in Transformers: Earth Wars all use models based on the combiner wars toys, except for Motormaster. Instead, his model is based on a third party figure, although I can remember which. I'll edit if it comes back to me.
I actually own this guy, albeit with some wear & tear from years of play. I'm missing the two of the four back wheels and the platform that has his head on it is a bit tight from what I think is a rusted pin.
Motormaster always was supposed to have a head that resembles Optimus, look at his G1 toy. The cartoon actually DOWNGRADED his design by interpreting that box that incases his head as a part of it. They took so much away from us, now because they done that, the ORIGINAL "Nemesis Prime" looks like a fucking buffon.
I amazed they never tried to do a Energon Optimus homage with the white Prime version of this, and instead of doing G1 car bots, to do a helicopter, a submarine (off of the helictopter mold), drill tank and fire engine for the limbs - they pretty much already had the tooling for that between Nosecone, Blades, Blades without blades, and First Aid or Rook.
Takara came a little close: their version of Optimus Maximus is named Convoy Grand Prime (Energon Optimus Prime is Superlink Grand Convoy in Japan) and the limb setup is close to Energon Prime's Super Mode.
It’s wild how far my collection has come. When I got back into collecting Transformers, this mould as Battle Core Optimus Prime was the very first toy I got.
Truck design reminds me a lot of TLK Galvatron. While I couldn't be too fussed by getting many of the CW toys, the Optimus Prime mold definitely stands out as one of the better ones. Those ratchets are satisfyingly clicky.
Got mine at a flea market for 3 bucks, missing tires, some panels, and a bunch of the combined mode stuff. His hips also exploded yesterday, no joke. He’s also covered in odd paint in some areas. Still really like him though.
Honestly I actually kinda like this one more than Legacy, yeah that thing has the standardized articulation, "G1 Accuracy" and a combined mode that doesn't look *totally* horrendous, but I'd still rather have this unique and odd goober than an official attempt at those third-party figures that are massive cheats.
You’re right as the cw stunticons are real scrambled city combiners figures that don’t cheat in the transformation. Unlike the legacy team that does with the unfortunate result of the new airialbots doing the same BS.
I just hate his CW alt mode. It's so round and mushy and completely forgettable. His four windowed sleeper cabover, with the trailer included, is just an infinitely cooler and tougher look. I couldn't take his devastation boss fight seriously every time he tried to ram me with that pillow of a vehicle
I loved this thing back when i had it, so chunky and i love the redesign! I just wished he had some sort of purple on the feet as a hint to the truck feet design, over time mine decided he didn't wanna stay together very well so i think thats why i got rid of him, but I've had my eye on the G2 set for a while, its so pretty!
I actually got this Motormaster as a Christmas gift a couple years back; my parents found it on eBay for $15usd (I believe), no gun but yes sword. It’s a really get toy to mess around with, and I love it’s transformation; the transformation may be a pretty straightforward but it’s fun to go back and forth with it.
Combiner wars Menasor is great when you have the upgrade kits, including the new head, waist and back piece. You can actually make him stand better than that weird squatting pose in combined mode. He definitely looks like a mess there without the stunticons, I also never attached the extra car on the chest which makes his chest alot cleaner.
As a kid I always used the fan mode for the combined form that Fanprojects uses on their promotional images and that solves most issues with the proportions of the combine mode for me.
I like this mode. the ol'front shins are iconic, but this is nice as well and really valorize the blockhead the combine mode... I dunno, I've always been of two minds about the "half 'n half" designs when it comes to toy accuracy, and menasor is one of those that really suffered from it I think they could have add a headmaster slot in there, a cheeky addition to the playpattern and a way to add more value to the collectors
While motormaster and by extension Menasor got the short end of the stick, I believe that if he used the Hot spot mold, he would've came out way better.
This line was the peak of my transformers I got the white Optimus and 4 guys I can put on him the same year that transformers devastation game came out it was peak
The Optimus version had a neat upgrade kit that turned him into an awesome IDW rendition. Too bad no one ever figured how to create a trailer add on that would make their gestalt so much better.
I had this mold many years ago. I painted it like a mash of 86 movie, Bayverse, and angry birds Galvatron. Sold it on ebay. Dont think i kept any pictures tho....
I got the Optimus Prime version of the mold and I love him. Unfortunately I don't have any one else for the full combiner of Optimus Maximus. I did have Ironhide but I lost him years ago.❤
I got the G2 version and, while the Menasor mode is....questionable....the individual Motormaster figure has some amazingly eye popping colors. Very underrated.
I know is not important but yesterday, I go to a 2 hand use shop in Australia (I am in vacation here, I normally live in Colombia) so I found the optimus dark of the moon Voyager class with 2 non-important parts but in real good quality at 1 dolar and I play with it a lot (I'm just 12) so I wanted to know what my favorite RUclipsr thinks
I remember this mould, I got the upgrade kit and he still kept falling over, I got the first wave of releases, not the fixed version, I did enjoy the individual figure though, nice chunky bot and nice chunky truck,
I unironically love this mould, and the rest of the stunticons. I have the full G2 box set version, and it's one of my centerpieces in my collection, in all of its 90s colored-ness. I never understood the hate for CW menasor, but I do agree the legacy one is leagues better. Just can't replace my first favorite combiner figure ya know.
I have the g2 cw menasor set, and now looking at the g1 legacy one, sure it's far better, and I might get em, but I will always treasure the cw toys for their fun scrambling and cool designs. Oh and cuz I worked real hard for em.
I agree, the Menasor torso mode was pretty meh. I had to get the Perfect Effect kit, which was basically a diaper with some add-ons, to lengthen the torso and make it look, well, better. I will also say that the PE kit had an absolutely perfect replacement head, compared to the tiny zombie viking head he had before. And that Menasor, kitted out, still looks like a decent Menasor even next to the Legacy Menasor (who is kitted out with the DNA kit)
I really liked this motormaster figure, too bad the combined mode didn't stay well put together. At least I still have him and he's on my display shelf
And if you try to pose the legs around, it becomes infinitely worse. I sold mine last week. Sucks because the rest of the Stunticons were very solid Tetra Changers and I will kinda miss them.
This figure combine mode falls flat as the hips don’t work, with onslaught the legs hinges up and silverbolt the arms are the combiner hips/legs but motormaster doesn’t do anything to shrink the legs down. Maybe if they slid up or hinged like onslaught to shorten the legs it could’ve been better
There’s an upgrade kit. I think it’s by perfect effect. I’m not sure. I don’t remember, but it makes it less of a squat on stilts. I bought it and it looks really good.
Combiner Wars Motormaster is really cool for Motormaster! Hell, I love the Optimus Prime variant, too. It's just a really cool, nice beefy truck dude, and the mold works quite well in general. But it's also the worst combiner torso of that line. Every other torso mold just worked way better in torso mold (the Silverbolt and his mold is my personal favorite) or was just way more interesting. Motormaster and Optimus were just kinda jank in general as the torso, and I only ever had the versions with the wonky ratchets. Still, on their own? Really enjoy them. If I want a cool unique Motormaster on his own? I've got this guy. If I want Menasor, I'll just stick with the Legacy version.
This wave never came out in my area. So I never got Motormaster or the three Stunticons plus one Aerialbot that came out with his wave. My area had several waves skipped.
I used to own a combinor wars motormaster when I was younger, I really wish I had the other Stunticons, sad I really liked the figure but I had lost it somewhere.
My only gripes (Though this only really applies to my copy with Optimus mold) Is the arm panels seemed to have loosened Though this likely due to me constantly transforming it
Be careful, my Unite Warriors version of Motormaster waist shattered, and I had to use superglue to put it back together. Try to find the Battlecore Optimus Prime (white repaint), looks and feels so much better than Motormaster.
Man, the CW Stunticons make me sad. I love the stylization of each member, but Motormaster’s torso just ruins everything. You didn’t even mention the problem of Blackjack sticking to the chest (in that it doesn’t). Man…pain
I just use my CW Cosmos as a chest piece, it looks neater. I have the Optimus Prime of this, and it looks way neater than using Hot Rod. I have the Stunticons as his limbs, though, as I never purchased the autobots that go with him, so I just imagine it as them teaming up to combat Devastator after he killed Motormaster.
My CW Motormaster used to look like this, but I painted the cab /truck mode areas black with purple detailing where needed, then applied the Toyhax upgrades to him... He now looks like he SHOULD have looked from the beginning, and much more impressive... Additionally, I bought an extra SND Upgrade kit for the white version of the mold, and after painting them, used certain parts to extend his thighs and feet, to 1) give him a little more height and articulated feet in bot mode, and 2) extend the back of his truck mode slightly to make it more proportionate, and better able to work with the trailer I put together for him from a snap-tite kit that scales with him nicely...! Looks awesome now in bot and alt modes... Combined mode, however, is still not great, even with the Perfect Effect upgrade kits installed for combined mode... Legacy kills the crappy CW Menasor, even WITH the PE upgrades... I know there are a lot of whiners who complain about the Legacy version, but compared to the CW version, Legacy is miles ahead of the game, whether you like it or want to admit it or not... SOME people just can't be satisfied with anything and live to complain about $#!t, no matter how good it might be... 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Personally, I think both sets have their pros and cons, but having both sets myself, Legacy does ALL 3 modes serious justice, while CW only gets 2 out of 3... As for the regular CW version of Prime and the Battle Core white versions of the mold... I bought the SND upgrade kits for both versions of the mold, and man, was THAT worth the money to get!!! OMG, that kit makes Prime much more proportionate and takes him from a voyager class to a leader class, while fixing everything that was wrong with the mold... Doesn't even look like the same figure, and he looks freaking awesome!!! Did the same thing with the white Core version, but I bought the SND Nova Prime conversion set, wings and all, AND the Toyhax decals to make the core version into Nova Prime...!!! So impressive, I didn't even bother buying the Siege/Earthrise/Kingdom version of the character... the Scythe and wings are amazing!!! For Optimus, I put together the combiner team that Hasbro SHOULD have done instead of the hodge podge combiner team for the mold... I took an extra Sunstreaker and made Sideswipe, took an extra Streetwise sanded down the lightbar, attached a custom head and made a Windcharger, made a Jazz from an extra Deadend, and added Mirage to complete the team that impersonated Menasor and the Stunticons to infiltrate the Decepticon ranks in the cartoon episode... So my Optimus can still combine with them, even with the SND upgrades, plus the PE upgrades for combined mode... For Nova, I just assembled a team of black and/or white vehicles and made them Auto-Trooper drones (Seems like I used Prowl with his specific police tampos blacked out to keep him generic looking b&w, Trailbreaker with his color stripes removed/blacked out, an extra Rook with the blue bits painted black, and an extra Streetwise (I think?) with a couple of light coats of black paint and some white detailing, just to keep the basic black and white scheme of the base Nova Prime in his combined form... I can't say enough good things about those SND kits, and I was pretty happy with the additional custom combiners for both figures... I even bought a third version of the SND kit (the Magnus upgrades) in order to split it between the Motormaster I was upgrading, and the Thunderclash I was putting together... I think those kits were around $50 each and came with SO MANY parts and weapons for the money... DNA doesn't offer that level of product for the money, and I've bought many of their excellent upgrades...! I'd recommend checking out some of the reviews on those kits, but keep in mind, SOME of those reviewers didn't really know what they were doing, and made it seem much more complicated and crappy than it actually was...although there WERE a couple of tricky bits to deal with, mostly concerning the removal and reinsertion of a pin in the torso area... It's really about patience, fine motor skill, and being careful, not trying to rush it... I had no trouble with ANY of my installations, but others did... So if you're impatient, uncoordinated, and easily frustrated... those kits are not for you, lol... but DAMN do they look GOOD when properly done!!!
I muc prefer this Motormaster over the Legacy one. The bulky appearance suits a character like him. And that Menasor's horn are the best ones I have seen. The viking/devil horns look much, much more awesome than the rabbit ears Menasor usually have.
I love that Motormaster is always an Optimus Mould. No custom truck mode for you Mm! I wonder, is it still technically a rework if that’s how he always is?
I got an extra copy and Toyhax upgrades, as well as a few 3D printed upgrade parts to customize a Thunderclash, and was planning to make the Accelerators team for him to combine with, but didn't get that far with everything yet...
I had Combiner Wars Silverbolt (The Jet One) and it BROKE... Was trying to either Put one of the Limb Bots in or take it out and it just Broke... Now I don't have A Central Bot cause they'res no where that sells em anymore... Unless i look on eBay but they're expensive
Did the updated fixed one still require the poles for BlackJack to be shaven down in order to fit into the chest like the original? I quite like him as Motormaster, also because NZ had no release of him and the other stuniticons I had to import him so completing one combiner nightmare led to me passing on the Legacy one, which also had an incomplete release and then the box set cost something like $100-200 more than the individuals would have making them close to $1000.
I love CW Motormaster. He looks beefy, menacing, like a WH40K Ork, a big dumb berserker that will laugh while he hits you with his rifle. If they had done a better job of integrating its legs for the combined mode, he would've been perfect. I know I will get flak for this, but that's why I prefer the CW combiners, they have a personality the new "framed" combiners don't have, they are faulty, they are a mistake, they are monstrous, representing the clash of personalities in lore, and, the best part for me, they are not just taken out of the G1 cartoon.
Fun fact: This design of Motormaster is used in the Transformers: Forged to Fight mobile game.
RIP forged to fight. Born a decent game, forced to be a single player grindfest.
Also in Devastation if I right remember (I've played it like 2 months ago and I don't remember lol)
@@illyanesterenko8930I think it was the truck mode and the transformation, not the robot, for menasor they did use blackjack for the chest though.

Still, on their own? Really enjoy them. If I want a cool unique Motormaster on his own? I've got this guy. If I want Menasor, I'll just stick with the Legacy version.
CW was a fun line in my opinion. I think the thing this line was Most famous for was ; IT Had more Upgrade Kits when any other line!
This wave never came out in my area. So I never got Motormaster or the three Stunticons plus one Aerialbot that came out with his wave. My area had several waves skipped.
Combiner wars Optimus was the first ever transformers toy I had
I definitely want that motormaster figure so freaking bad
I used to own a combinor wars motormaster when I was younger, I really wish I had the other Stunticons, sad I really liked the figure but I had lost it somewhere.
My stunticons are from Unite Warriors, and I haven’t touched them in years.
I got this Motormaster just in case my UW copy snaps.
the torso mode kinda looks sick actually
My only gripes
(Though this only really applies to my copy with Optimus mold)
Is the arm panels seemed to have loosened
Though this likely due to me constantly transforming it
I have the prime from this mold or I should say my kids have it now. It grew old to me very quickly.
I’m always thought we were too hard on this mold
I like the combiner wars stunticons in for there robot but in terms of the combination its funny.
We need an age of the primes update for CW Optimus Maximus using the legacy stunticons (menosar) mold.
Personally, I think both sets have their pros and cons, but having both sets myself, Legacy does ALL 3 modes serious justice, while CW only gets 2 out of 3...
Motormaster came first. Optimus is a MOTORMASTER mold, not the other way around!
No-one:
Zant at the end of Twilight Princess: 3:02
I still have CW Menasor with PE upgrades. Jank and all, I love it. I now call it the Animated Menasor while Legacy Menasor is the G1 version.
I muc prefer this Motormaster over the Legacy one. The bulky appearance suits a character like him. And that Menasor's horn are the best ones I have seen. The viking/devil horns look much, much more awesome than the rabbit ears Menasor usually have.
yeah the design just works better for Motormaster imo
the toy itself needs work, but the design ROCKS for Motormaster
I remember getting the G2 set at ROSS for like 50 bux. Still got it, though its collecting dust since it seems blah to me now.😆
I'd be like if warpath was a megatron remold.
I love that Motormaster is always an Optimus Mould. No custom truck mode for you Mm!
I wonder, is it still technically a rework if that’s how he always is?
I own the white version of this mold
SAME DUDE
The white version should have been Thunderclash.
It can with Toyhax
I got an extra copy and Toyhax upgrades, as well as a few 3D printed upgrade parts to customize a Thunderclash, and was planning to make the Accelerators team for him to combine with, but didn't get that far with everything yet...
Best design ever his more g1 look is cool to tho
Mainly just want to own one so I can turn it into a combiner nemesis
I had Combiner Wars Silverbolt (The Jet One) and it BROKE... Was trying to either Put one of the Limb Bots in or take it out and it just Broke... Now I don't have A Central Bot cause they'res no where that sells em anymore... Unless i look on eBay but they're expensive
I got the optimus maximus to nova prime upgrade kit, id see if theres a motormaster one tho!
They need make more combiners
The torso mode may be bad, but the worst torso award still goes to Grimlock.
True! Kinda too bad, because those were all solid other than that.
