The how-to installation illustrations in the manual are fine as abstract art. Not so great for setting up the stupid mower

Started it up 1st time today. The baby one. It's like a toy, but not much to mow, so that's ok. Small yard and front and side of corner lot.
Made my friend stay in case i accidentally amputated something, lol. It was very quiet. I barely heard it at all. Weed wacker/leaf blower was louder, btw.
This was like 400.00. Very light. Easy to use. Stupid proof. One full battery did the whole corner property and back yard. When done, folded handle up and put it under basement steps. It was great.
So far, really pleased! After 1st lawnmower use EVER. Weed wacker takes more strength to use.

I have the RY401018 mower and because we got it the day after we mowed the yard…due to 2 previous cancelled delivery dates…we still haven’t used it yet. At my advanced age, I was really tired of pushing our old gas mower. And with gas creeping up towards $5 a gallon, electric was the way to go…just like my car. EDIT…starting the mower 1:43
I just bought the RY401018 yesterday and loaded it into my Nissan Leaf EV. Looking forward to not filling gas can at pump and gas & oil spills in the garage. I’ve got one more gas car and a leaf blower, when those die I’ll have a nice oil and gas free garage.

I had to replace the side chute deflector any chance you guys have a video to replacing that? the torsion spring is making in impossible to put the new one on
Is the side discharge chute supposed to snap in place? Mine doesn’t seem to fit the mower and I can’t get it installed.
Can you attach a generic dethatching blade to this mower? I removed the blade however the white plastic piece wasn’t wide enough to go over the dethatching blade I bought.

I used this video to put together my lawn mower. The instructions were clear and the visual of him actually doing it and and the highlights where the snaps go make it easy for a lay person to put this piece of equipment together. After I got the equipment together I mowed my lawn and use the self-propelled. When I tell you easy and I still have battery life I'm still going to charge it however it still has battery life after mowing my front and backyard.
Does the lid that covers the battery pack snap on or securely close? The one I got just lies closed.
The side chute is a pain to install, how does he do it so easily????

Do I have to fully charge in order to start?
I hope this model solvee some issues i heard of previous models not working cause faulty safety features prevented it from turning on or turning on and off that were caused along handles. At least no headlights, I didn't like that on the previous mower I had.
I'd like bright lights, too! My VACUUM had them in the 80s!! Much more useful on a lawnmower, tho

Do I need to use the side discharge chute to mulch? Or can I just use the mulch plug and let the grass stay on the ground
I just got my Ryobi mower today and I haven’t used it yet but, whether you use the side discharge or not, the grass will be all over the yard. At least if you use the side discharge, the grass isn’t going to be possibly clogging up under the mower. Personally, I’d use the discharge.
Dumb question….you either use the bag to catch clipping or you use the mulch blocker and side discharge?
you can use the mulch plug without the side discharge if you want to mulch your cut grass back into the lawn. this is the easiest and best for your lawn as long as you're not cutting too long.
Went seeking for a video like that to make sure the bag was attached correctly.
It is but it just keeps falling off once it's like 20% full ><
Those tiny holder for the bag are way too shallow to support the weight
my blade does not go on when I press the start, baterry is full ,safety key is in, grass bag is installed, self proppeler works but blade won't start.

Love my mower but it stopped working after 2 days. It just turned off. I confirmed the battery is fully charged, no debris between the battery and the connector. Checked that no debris is between the key and the connector. Confirmed the guard is in place and the handles are secure. Still won't start. Anyone have any thoughts about what I could try next?

What is the Mulch plug and side thing for? Should those be plugged in while cutting the grass?
Depends on what you want to do with the clippings. Don't use the plug if you want to use the rear bag catcher for the clippings. If you want to mulch the clippings you would only use the mulch plug. This causes the clippings to get "extra" chopped up by the blades and left on your yard. If you don't want to use the bag catcher but don't want to mulch then you install the mulch plug to block the rear exit but install the side chute. This expels the non mulched clippings out the side
@@mistermatrix24 it says not to use bag catcher with the mulching piece. So I can't mulch it into smaller pieces AND have it sent into bag (so I can dump into my compost)?
@@vacationgal05 correct. The mulching plug blocks the rear exhaust so the catch bag would serve no purpose then. Essentially what the mulching plug does is it forces the clippings to stay in the blade area longer resulting in them getting mulched up. The results get deposited on your yard basically where they're cut. You could go around after with a rack and gather it up for a compost pile. Or ryobi has a vacuum style mulcher in the 40v product line. Depending on how large your yard is it might be easier to get a separate mulching machine and deposit your clippings into it from the rear catch bag
@@mistermatrix24 THANK YOU!!!! I mean, really I should use common sense and know the mulch plug and bag shouldn’t be used in tandem, but I wasn’t sure. ESPECIALLY because the manual and most of the videos on RUclips don’t mention this. As to why oriole skip easy steps in instruction videos and manuals is beyond me. Thank you for explaining! 🎉
We left it on inside the flap as shown. Bag on. Didn't see any grass inside the bag (or very little), so we assume it's all over the yard. We'll know more once there's more light.
I'm trying to assemble my mower, but my right green knob handle is completely stuck and I can't unlock it. The left one moves perfectly, but no matter how hard I try to force the right one it won't budge. Has anyone seen this issue before?

I had to return it, the frame arrived warped and it was completely unusable. The new one I got works great so far though. Good luck! @@aidandewolf
I bought one yesterday at 5 PM and finished cutting my lawn by 6. the supplied battery, which had half a charge already, got the job done for my modest duplex yard. The only problem is I have no idea what to do with my 6 hp push mower sitting by the shed with a broken carburetor lever.
Give it to someone else?

SELF PROPELLED - WHEN TURNING-PIVOTING DO NOT LIFT THE FRONT END ( COMMON ) - PULL UP ON THE HANDLE BARS AND LIFT THE REAR END TO TURN, THIS IS TO AVOID STRESS ON THE HANDLE BARS AND MISALIGNMENT-BENDING OVER TIME. AVIOD PULLING THE MOWER BACKWARDS ON THE REAR WHEELS - DRIVE MOTOR WEAR / LIFE )
NEVER USE HOSE WATER, POWER SPRAYER TO WASH ANY PART OF MOWER - UNDERSIDE, DECK, ETC. USE DAMP CLOTH / BRUSH ONLY.
INSPECT AND CLEAN BLADE UNDERSIDE WELL OF ANY BUILD UP THAT MAY HAVE ACCUMULATED - TIP AFTER CLEANED ADD SOME PAM COOKING SPRAY ON A CLOTH AND WIPE ENTIRE BLADE UNDERSIDE WELL ( BLADE TOO ! ) THIS WILL HELP FROM GRASS STICKING EASILY, THIS ALSO HELPS REDUCE FAILURES FROM HEAVY BUILDUP OVER TIME. CAREFUL WATCH THE BLADE EDGES - USE GLOVES !
DONT STORE THE LITH. BATTERY IN A HOT OR COLD GARAGE, ROOM TEMP IS THE BEST. FOR LONG TERM STORAGE KEEP AT A 50% CHARGE NOT IN THE CHARGING DOCK.

wouldn't recommend electric mowers u constantly be stopping to charge the battery. Couldn't even go past 20 mins of mowing without stopping on a full battery. Not worth it..
