@@ItApproaches well, it's the conclusion of the matrix trilogy. There's no guarantee that the new matrix will be a continuation of this same story. I'll always remember this as a theater experience. I first saw it with my mom, who really enjoyed the first one. The only thing she didn't care for in the sequel was the song choices, and then when 'To Be Concluded' hit the screen she said, "What?? Aww boo. They leave us holding our breath for the next one!" After that I got to go to a special screening courtesy of the film course I was taking in college. Then finally I went to go watch it with dad, who thanks to his degrees in philosophy and theology picked up everything the Architect was talking about on the first viewing. Unlike mom and my peers, when he saw the cliffhanger I recall his response was a very indulgent, "Oh well played."

I love how you react to it all! The entirety of this trilogy is based mostly on philosophy wrapped in amazing stuff that geeks love like anime, Hong Kong cinema, comic books, and science fiction. This is one of the reasons many people don't like the second and third films...these are tremendously philosophical and ultimately spiritual. One of the ways I love to watch these films is the copies in 'The Ultimate Matrix' box set of DVDs. The films have commentary tracks, one track is by film critics who HATE all three films (which is both funny and infuriating)...the second track is by two philosophers who LOVE these films. The philosophers are Ken Wilber and Dr. Cornel West (who actually appears in both 'Reloaded' and 'Revolutions' as Councilor West). Look them up...brilliant guys. Anyway...I love that you are taking these films on. They are among my favorites of all time. And...you're right...the second and third films do require multiple viewings. Have fun, Magy!!!

For starters How does getting to the Source save Zion, Why is Smith back, How is he copying himself How did he take over someone outside the Matrix and then we get to the Architect which is where most people who aren't listening closely get lost. Due to the overly verbose way the Architect explains why Neo even exists on first viewing many people don't really understand why "The One" is even a thing and then implementation of what some probably see as supernatural powers OUTSIDE the Matrix will leave people scratching their heads. I get it I've seen the Matrix Movies a hundred times but on someone's first viewing it is likely a bit confusing.

I still don't know why Neo has powers outside the Matrix, back in the day I explained that away with "huh, must be some form of w-lan" but the movie probably wants us to take that as a form of "everything is everything, the Matrix is as real as the outside world" kind of thing.... unless they explain it in Matrix 4, which I doubt they will!

@@monkmichel9477 In my headcanon, it's an EMP power that The One possesses within the code he carries as a sorta fail-safe if The One chose the other door. The Machines can't fully control human choice, but they can anticipate it. That means that they can anticipate the mathematical eventuality that a One will at some point choose not to go through the Source door. And in the event that happens, The One would need an alternate path to reach the Source, and the only other option at that point is the Machine City in the Real World and through all of the Machines' defenses..So perhaps he's always had that power, but since no other One before Neo took that path, they never knew they could do it because they never had to before. Or perhaps Neo's internal code was altered or rewritten the moment he passed through the other door.

I actually got to meet the actor that plays the agent from the freeway. The one that climbs the police car and jumpslams another car.
He actually shared a fun story about that stunt.
If you look closely, you can see him grip onto the handlebars of the vehicle thst are designed for stuntmen to climb onto the roof. However, they realized that when they concealed that specific handlebar from the camera, it actually made it harder to grab, especially since the car really was in motion and moving at that speed.
So they literally told him just before the shoot. "If you fall, you might die. So... don't fall ok? You got this." 🤣🤣🤣
    That's dedication.
So in a full suit and his agent outfit, he had to struggle climbing onto the roof of a moving car and still have a menacing Agent look while standing straight up on top of a moving car. He finished the story stating it was one of his scariest stunts ever. But it was super worth it.

The reason Neo was able to stop the sentinels is because the "real" world was another matrix created by the machines for the people that wouldnt except the normal matrix. Smith and the Architect explain this but the plot was ultimately scrapped but the plot points are still in the movie. So essentially neo still has powers because they are still jacked in. Even when the war is over, Morpheus asks, "is this a dream?"

The current outrage pushing a lot of crap tier actors into the spotlight is ridiculous. Ernie Hudson? Amazing actor. Keith David? Great actor, and lent his voice to many animated shows. I recognized his voice instantly when I watched Gargoyles as a kid. Don't even get me started on actresses that perfectly portrayed strong women without bashing all of the men around them. I'll go with lesser known ones to avoid cliches. Jaime Murray as Stahma Tarr in Defiance. Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan in Dexter. Two from the show Angel, Stephanie Romanov as Lilah, and Elisabeth Rohm as Kate Lockley.
Hillary Swank as Maggie Fitzgerald in Million Dollar Baby.
      There are many, many more.
Current culture is spamming crap actors and actresses into poorly written parts and then calling anyone who disagrees with their performance and dialogue evil.
      Look at the movie Alien.
Every single character was called by their last name. It was intentional. They were cast like that. Male, female, race, sexual orientation, none of it was considered in casting.
The best people were picked for the roles. And it produced one of the best horror movies ever made.

This movie treats world history and myth as software updates, with Neo cast as the resulting bug of the programming.
The Matrix is a beautiful metaphor for just about everything lol. It's about perspectives and frame of reference.
Once you get outside of "The Matrix" you find yourself still trapped inside of all these other matrices. Still tryna get a clear objective picture of reality which, of course, none of us have.
This is why it's important to collaborate with others, to empathize and broaden your horizons.
This is where the idea of "free will" comes in. For how can everyone truly have free will with the limited choices we're given? How can everyone have free will when our philosophies and goals come into conflict with each other?
This is the essence of story. My philosophy vs. Your philosophy. My will vs. Your will. And our conflict and the drama that comes from it.

This movie is about Neo making his own choices rather than relying on others to tell how to be the one. 1st movie he has to believe he is the one. The 2nd he is stuck in the role of the one and does what others tell him to do. So there is no difference of being in the matrix and others telling him what to do as the one. When he meets the architect he finally realizes he needs to make his own choice and he chooses to save Trinity instead of Zion.

The Matrix trilogy is a series of movies that are steeped in philosophy. Some of the Elders of Zion are actually philosophy professors who have also done a commentary on the movies if you want a deeper dive into the meaning of these movies. Heck, the actors were required to read books on philosophy before reading the script so they could better understand the movie they were about to make; books like "Simulacra and Simulation" by Jean Baudrillard, "Out of Control" by Kevin Kelly and a few others (so light reading :P ). There have been many papers written about the Matrix, its philosophy, and its impact on the zeitgeist that continue into the modern day.
TLDR: these movies are really deep and require a lot of reviewing, meditation on, and additional reading to really understand.

The 1st one is so perfect - no scene is wasted and all the action is directly tied to character growth and story. Very unusual. This one is a little more bloated but the philosophical underpinnings are just as interesting as the 1st.

The Wachowski's always had the full story in mind, but that first film had to be able to stand alone...in case it wasn't a box-office success and the sequels were not funded. 2 and 3 were filmed all together and just split for the showings.

You are doing really well Magy. Even for those of us who speak English as our first language, that scene with the architect was really hard to comprehend on a first viewing. There are a lot of ideas going on and you are clearly understanding all the important stuff. These movies really require multiple viewings to comprehend fully. This is partly why the 2nd and 3rd movies are not as well liked. They don't work as well as single films because they are each half of the story. If you enjoy this world, I strongly recommend "the Animatrix". It was an anthology collection of short stories, all done by different artists, that flesh out the world and fully explain the history of how the matrix was created. There was that boy who greeted Neo and Trinity when they returned to Zion in this film. The story of how Neo freed him from the Matrix is another story from the Animatrix.

25:20 they're just appearing from everywhere... yeah that's why Morpheus said before that taking the highway was suicide. So many people everywhere, and an Agent can possess any one of them at any time. Eyes everywhere so they can't go unseen. And no easy escape. The directors actually had this section of highway specially constructed for the movie, they wanted it to convey a sense of dread.

No one would insult you if you didn't understand something :) don't worry. Most native speakers don't even get 2/3 of what the Architect is saying. Let alone all the deeper meanings of the movie. :) The matrix does that: at first you just understand the surface level. And as you watch it again you begin to understand more and more

When you mentioned that "The Architect" looks like "the guy from the hunger games," that reminded me of a movie from the 1970s that is a great WWII movie, and it's a comedy/adventure. It's called "Kelly's Heroes," and it stars Clint Eastwood, and many other big stars of the 1970s, including the Hunger Games actor, Donald Sutherland. It's a great movie, but I don't want to spoil it.

The entire idea builds on the fact that the human brain is essentially nothing but a complex computer but still a computer that will act the same way that any other computer would if given the correct stimulus
You could say that all humans are different, but in the very core we are all very much alike and act on experiences, it is just the amount of experience in different things that makes us different, but still predictable, so a much more advanced computer could predict every course of action a human would take
This is what makes Neo "The one", for some reason he has free will... up to a point at least :)
Don´t worry, it is just a movie though, no1 in the world can be entirely sure how the universe works yet :D

Ok, so I really enjoy your genuine reaction to these movies. The Matrix is my all-time favorite movie series, and I thought I would try and explain to you, and perhaps some of your viewers, how to think of these movies. I'm a programmer, it's my job, and I do it every day. So these movies should be seen as a "what-if" machines, meaning AI, one day turns against humans. The AI start to write a "program" (meaning software coding), to control the human mind, so that they can enslave them, and breed them (actually grow human babies) into energy sources (i.e. batteries, therefore the reference to batteries in the first series). The machines had to do this, because the humans launched all their nuclear weapons against the machines, and in doing so destroyed the atmosphere of earth, and blocking the sunlight, which the machines needed to turn into energy. That is why humans live in the "real word" underground, because the surface of earth is radio active and toxic.
So here is how you should understand these movies. The Matrix is a VERY BIG and COMPLEX collection of computer code or programs, that was written by the machines, as a form of control, i.e. make the human babies => teenagers => adults => elderly "batteries" think they live in a normal world. This is to use the organic humans to generate the electricity the machines need to survive.
The "programs" or as we call them in the software development world, "functions", are written to perform a specific task. So when the "Keymaker" says "That is my purpose"... it simply means that the Keymaker's function, or code, was written by the machines to perform a specific task. Same with the Oracle, Neo and the Architect. Each of them have a specific "function" or set of code, in this grand software program called The Matrix.
So now, if you think about Neo, think of him as a "friendly hacker" attempting to change some of the The Matrix code, so the human's can win the battle against the machines. Now, Morpheus, Trinity and the rest of the cast are all "helper code", designed to assist the "friendly hacker", a.k.a. Neo to complete his task.
Agent Smith is interesting. Agents in general are programs, i.e. pieces of code, written by the machines to make sure The Matrix software runs as it is supposed to run. Think of them as security software in a large network. Agent Smith, through his interaction with Neo, evolved into a nasty computer virus, that's why he can replicate, or make copies of himself, and he is basically the alter-ego of Neo, being a destructive hacker and sophisticated computer virus, who is obsessed with destroying The Matrix, and by proxy (or in doing so), Zion, by trying to turn Neo into a virus like himself.
Just to answer a specific question of yours Magic Magy... if you watch the movies again, you will notice they always talk about "choices" and there are usually only two (2) choices for any particular question or situation. This is a direct reference to how a computer works. Think of what binary code really is, or how electronics really works. A light switch has only two possibles positions or "states", which is "Off" ("0"), or "On" ("1). This is how machines and electronic devices work, it is simply a whole bunch of transistors or electronic components that can either be switched "On" or "Off". The combination of all these millions of tiny transistors in your mobile phone, laptop or computer is what makes it possible for that device to work.
So to summarize, the movie series is about Computer AI going rogue, and enslaving humans in the process, in an attempt to survive.
I hope I did not spoil the plot to these movies for some of you, but I can imagine it could be hard for people who are not computer geeks, like myself, to really understand what it is all about. To those of you that I bored with my rambling on above, I apologize.
To Magic Magy, love your movie reviews/reactions... keep doing it!

The white room with the old man, the architect, is the most important of all the scenes from matrix 1 - 3. The architects explains…
Matrix 1.0: was a heaven fantasy realm but most people could not accept peace & the matrix program was a failure & had to be temporarily be shut down & rebooted from scratch. Millions from humans & machine died or permanently deactivated.
Matrix 2.0: it was hell on earth with vampires, ghost, werewolves, etc., with the French man aka the merovingian, was ruler of fantasy evil earth. Most people could not accept this & the matrix had to be shut down & rebooted from scratch a 2nd time. Millions from humans & machine died or permanently deactivated.
Matrix 3.0: Transitional Period: The architect creates the oracle, who explains the world must be good & evil for humans to accept it but eventually, within centuries, a 1%, an anomaly, “the one” will not accept this & will corrupt this program. Eventually it must return to the machine mainframe, be killed &, re-assimilated back to the program rebooted after centuries from the first activation.
This happened 6 times already. “the matrix is older than you know.” Based on that info, they could be the 40century or 4000 AD era. Every new “neo” is stronger that the previous one. This is why neo can now control machines, in the real world, without being jacked-in & why the programs are afraid of him.

The architect basically means that if neo chooses the other door then the matrix gets rebooted and all of it is going to happen again - and it has hence why he says that it is the 6th time he is meeting The anomaly (neo) because the previous ones chose to return to the source i.e rebooting the matrix. in other words, the oracle is manipulating everyone and keeping the humans slaves by leading them down the same path over and over and over and basically keeping the anomaly in check and under the machine's control. These movies fry neurons.....lol

In my opinion, the first movie was a master piece because it introduced a doubt of reality based on a plausible explanation that we are all sharing an induced fake reality. The other two movies of the trilogy went for so many things related to special effects, like the "ghost brothers" that have no comparison to daily life experiences and excuses to choreograph another fight like "you know someone after you fight them" that was a little bit of a let-down to me.
Still, questioning if reality was a programmed code, what could happen when a program interacts with the code differently, like the key-maker making interfaces that connect two pieces of code that represent separated physical locations, or former agent Smith replicating itself like a computer virus, had some appeal to still keep the argument interesting.

Why are the Matrix movies still awesome? They have the right balance between good special effects, action scenes and a good and well told story. Today Hollywood movies set full on effects and action, the story is pushed in the background. Even the Joker disappointed me, the movie could have been so much better. The acting is outrages like in Split, and like in Split the movie and story is okay, but not really good. Seems like all the good writers are working prefered for series.

That's not really what the Architect said. He said that Zion was created as a means of controlling and regulating those who reject the Matrix for the Real World. He's doesn't say that Real World outside of the Matrix is yet another virtual reality simulation. But I can see why some would assume that's what he meant. When the first movie presents you with the concept of a virtual reality simulation that is so realistic that most people cannot tell that it isn't real, that opens a can of worms that makes you question whether *any* reality the characters are experiencing is real or just another fabricated virtual world like the Matrix. But that theory can just go on infinitely and suddenly nothing matters and there are no stakes at all because nothing is ever real. They awaken from one virtual reality world to find that they're in another one, then they wake up from that one to find themselves in yet another one, and so on and so forth over and over again forever and ever. To avoid that mess, we just have to accept for the sake of the story (and our sanity) that there are only TWO worlds within these movies - the Matrix and the Real World.

    • @bigdream_dreambig
      @bigdream_dreambig 3 года назад

@@glennwelsh9784 I would take it further. I would say that, once you know a virtual world can exist that appears indistinguishable from a real one, it no longer matters whether you're in a "real" world or not; each world matters just as much as every other world.
This is the same line of thinking that allows me to truly understand that, as soon as we have A.I. that can think indistinguishably from humans, we must treat it with the same empathy, courtesy, and respect that we grant to any human being.
