In some short videos that Nintendo made in late 2017 to early 2018, you can see Mario's email and one of the messages in the inbox is from Toadsworth, titled "Long time no see", so at the very least he was still around post-Odyssey. Unfortunately he's gone totally quiet again in the 7 years since, but I think that email is meant to imply that he's just off enjoying his retirement somewhere secluded.
Nice video. Just wanted to add some you missed: - From Paper Mario, during the final boss there's a small sequence where you do a battle with Peach and newcomer Twink the Star Spirit yes this is not a joke that's his name - You counted Cappy from Odyssey co-op so I think it's fair to count the co-op orange Luma from Galaxy 2 (and ONLY Galaxy 2, in Galaxy 1 the second player is just a pointer) - You didn't mention the Strikers series at all, in the GameCube game you can unlock a Super Robots team of players - You mentioned Origami King's "partners", so it's fair to count the 14 or so Pixls from Super Paper Mario, since they follow you around and you can use their abilities in exploration and "combat". Also Paper Mario counted as a character at the end, so maybe from this game you can add Paper Peach, Paper Bowser and Paper Luigi
I remember seeing random ass human characters in Mario 64 and I can’t believe they were expanded upon for TWO more installments Great vid btw, keep it up!!
Personally, using your own criteria, I wouldn't count every doctor costume as its own separate character. Dr Luigi doesn't appear in any game with regular Luigi, to put an example. Pretty good video, shows how the smartphone games break the statistics.
Baby Mario and Metal Mario were also playable in Mario Golf 64. And I believe you missed some in Mario Tennis Aces, namelly Chain Chomp and Fire Piranha Plant. Otherwise, good video.
Also ROB's first playable appearence is in a microgame in Warioware inc: megamicrogames for the Game boy advance which theoritically still makes him a mario character
As much as I miss Toadsworth, I just hate the fact that Nintendo treated it like a good idea to treat other character they want you to forget (re: Tatanga, the human characters from the old Mario Golf games, Captain Syrup, Dixie Kong (and her family and the rest of the Kongs beyond Donkey, Diddy and Cranky), Wart, Princess Daisy (sometimes), Birdo, the Koopa Kids (Mario Party 1-7, not The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3), Geno, etc.
@nhbons783 because they don't have the nostalgia or are just not that interesting enough. Rob has his history also as an accessorie. He also is just a blank piece of paper you can do anything with. So like, you are right, but like so am I... ya know
@Sing-bing cuz then it kinda goes against the point I'm making, we have so many regularly occurring Male Characters and so few female characters, I mean if I did count them it would still be a landslide of male characters vs female, but I wanted to keep it to actual characters instead of what feels like a prototype mii
@paulinetrivago.7540 but they are actual mario characters because the mario tennis power tour is not a crossover game, and miis aren't even released to them. The human characters are different
Since Fortune Street is basically kind of a Mario game, would this mean any Dragon Quest characters who weren't playable before that game would be considered Mario characters, using the same logic as ROB?

Small correction: Baby Mario’s first playable appearance wasn’t Mario Tennis. In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, when you collect a superstar, instead of playing as Yoshi, you control Baby Mario.
actually, in the Mario and donkey Kong timeline, the donkey Kong that we see in the first game is today Cranky Kong, while donkey Kong JR. in Mario kart is the donkey Kong that we know
3:35 Il Piantissimo stole the brush at the end of sunshine it could be inferred that this is him as shadow Mario (assuming that’s a brush ability and not jr willing it to look like Mario every time)
At that point you might as well try to count the extended universe which really only adds the (still quite large) WarioWare crew and, like, Baby Bowser. XD
@@StibWoodsIt’s weird you would leave in the part saying he doesn’t count he’s just a different art style when you’re gonna contradict that later in the video.
You missed Ala-Gold from NSMBWii even though you mentioned him at 9:30. I do understand not counting Buckenberry though, since it’s debatable if his first appearance was actually in SMB2, as the toad in that game is blue. However, the Japanese box-art has a red toad, and the SMB2 remakes in All Stars and Advance has the playable toad as red. So because of that it can be assumed that Toad being blue in the original SMB2 was due to graphical limitations.
Since paper mario is different from mario, then paper luigi, paper peach and paper bowser are different from their 3d counterparts, they are playable in super paper mario for the Wii
Ok small mario lore here In a interview the creator of mario stated all mario's are the same I know someone will bring up mario and luigi paperjam as a counter argument but it can be easyly explained, theres a character in paper mario 64 and he said something like "i'm going to rewrite your adventure, i'm going to call it mario's story" And in japan paper mario being named mario's story is enough evidence for me at least that the paper mario games are rewritten story's of mario's adventures, It's my personal headcanon and is possibly canon
In paper jam the characters explicitly point out how they both lived identical lives Combine that with things from paper world being seen in the mario world and vice versa we could safely assume that the universes are identical and all events happen in both
Does that include hotel mario? Mayotoa has been involved in mario games for years and old guys like him don't know there a thing called the multiverse.
Why do the Dr. Mario World characters count as separate characters if you can't play as them at the same time as the regular versions of themselves like your criteria for regular Dr. Mario? Truly a question for the ages.
8:03 If we’re including the coop cappy then I think another viable character would be the coop character/s of Mario galaxy. It is weird as in the first game it’s just an orange cursor that was able to stop enemies and a few other things but in galaxy 2 the coop option is now a orange luma who has a cursor that does what it did in Galaxy 1 but the luma can also grab stuff like coins and mushrooms. This makes me wonder if this should count as one or two characters as there are differences between the galaxy 1 and 2 coop option but galaxy 1 is just a cursor while galaxy 2 is an actual character that follows Mario. Not 100 percent sure but I would probably count it as one. Great video, I like to see how big the Mario series is and categorize things like the characters or bosses. Imagine if you included series that feature characters who are Mario characters like Donkey Kong, the list would get even bigger.
Actually, Paper Mario counts as another character, in Paper Jam he fights alongside Mario and Luigi, the normal one, he is it's own character. This adds Paper Luigi, Paper Peach and Paper Bowser from SPM as well since they are different characters.
@@StibWoods Bowser and Peach do met their Papery Alts, and even tho Paper Luigi never met normal Luigi, he is still on the screen for the music selection in Paper Jam-they met their alts as other characters, therefore Paper Mario (and Paper Luigi, Paper Peach and Paper Bowser) should count as playable characters, since they are playable in SPM.
Baby Mario counted, but I don't think Baby Luigi was mentioned (correct me if I'm wrong) and he was playable in Mario and Luigi Partners In Time if I'm not mistaken.
You missed a few characters from Mario Slam Basketball, having Ninja, Black Mage, Cactuar, Moogle, and White Mage. Adding 5 more, but a few of them may not count as they are from final fantasy. Did a little bit of research for this. Moogle is 100% from this MSB
I am gonna draw every playable mario character which y'all pick (I count games of those characters who are from super mario games as super Mario games characers)
If we go by Mario Wiki's rules, then Wario games would also count, so you'd have to also add the cast of Warioware; Get it Together. (17 characters + Wario) Though maybe we shouldn't considering that maybe we'd also have to count every single character from every single Microgame...
Super Paper Mario party members don't count? Also I love what you said at the end. We don't need Smash Kart cuz there's more than enough Mario characters.

- From Paper Mario, during the final boss there's a small sequence where you do a battle with Peach and newcomer Twink the Star Spirit yes this is not a joke that's his name
- You counted Cappy from Odyssey co-op so I think it's fair to count the co-op orange Luma from Galaxy 2 (and ONLY Galaxy 2, in Galaxy 1 the second player is just a pointer)

Doctor Gooma Tower is easily in the top 10 Madio characters of all-time
There are at least 366 because you play as chain chomp in a minigame in some Mario party game.
Can't wait for Genius to join Smash
Small correction:
Baby Mario’s first playable appearance wasn’t Mario Tennis.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, when you collect a superstar, instead of playing as Yoshi, you control Baby Mario.
2:16 new Stibwoods lore dropped Stib’s irl name isn’t actually Stib wtf I feel betrayed
I wonder what the number would be if you got rid of all the generic humans from the sports games
Why don't you like them and they're not generic
actually, in the Mario and donkey Kong timeline, the donkey Kong that we see in the first game is today Cranky Kong, while donkey Kong JR. in Mario kart is the donkey Kong that we know
No, Donkey Kong Jr. is modern DK’s dad
I knew someone would say this. No, they aren’t the same person
In luigis mansion dark moon on the multiplayer scream scraper mode you can play as a select color of different Luigi's
What I learned from this video is that Tennis is really popular in the human world of Mario.
In the overworld of Mario+ Rabbids Kingdom Battle you control Beep-O, he should be on the list too
Ehhhh I thought about it but the Mario wiki technically doesn’t list him as a playable character, and I mostly went off of that website
Rayman as dlc
You can use Olivia to give you hints in Origami King, so technically, you can play as Olivia.
"Fire Mario isn't a different character!"
Mario Kart Arcade GP DX: "Haha, WRONG!"
5:58 - HOW DARE YOU! miis have feelings.
XD
Hmmmn, I don't think Dr. Luigi is playable in any game regular Luigi also appears on, but I'm guessing it gets an extension from Dr. Mario's autonomy
Wasn't cranky kong playable in barrel blast before tropical freeze?
The Donkey Kong franchise is within the Mario universe
I think he’s only counting games with Mario in the title
Considering there’s a whole Mario and Luigi game where you team up with Paper Mario who comes from his own world, he should’ve been counted.
Did you get to the part where I said that?
@@StibWoodsIt’s weird you would leave in the part saying he doesn’t count he’s just a different art style when you’re gonna contradict that later in the video.
Yeah because it's funny
So today could be Curt from Mario Tennis for the Game Boy Color day.
2:41 this gane also made my favorite Mario enemy playable, the boos
You missed Ala-Gold from NSMBWii even though you mentioned him at 9:30. I do understand not counting Buckenberry though, since it’s debatable if his first appearance was actually in SMB2, as the toad in that game is blue. However, the Japanese box-art has a red toad, and the SMB2 remakes in All Stars and Advance has the playable toad as red. So because of that it can be assumed that Toad being blue in the original SMB2 was due to graphical limitations.
Wait what about Paper Peach, Bowser and Luigi?
Origami king partners arent playable. They completely act on their own and follow you around
Excellent video, I am now considering subscribing, human.
Well now if we want equal characters for every day, we gonna have to cut cranky kong into 365 slices.
or just have him for only leap years
I appreciate the dedication to name em all! You may have missed Olivia from Paper Mario: The Origami King
Scott is a historical figure!!🎉🎉🎉 5:33
And Hitler isn't in Europe
Since paper mario is different from mario, then paper luigi, paper peach and paper bowser are different from their 3d counterparts, they are playable in super paper mario for the Wii
Ok small mario lore here
In a interview the creator of mario stated all mario's are the same
I know someone will bring up mario and luigi paperjam as a counter argument but it can be easyly explained, theres a character in paper mario 64 and he said something like "i'm going to rewrite your adventure, i'm going to call it mario's story"
And in japan paper mario being named mario's story is enough evidence for me at least that the paper mario games are rewritten story's of mario's adventures,
It's my personal headcanon and is possibly canon
In paper jam the characters explicitly point out how they both lived identical lives
Combine that with things from paper world being seen in the mario world and vice versa we could safely assume that the universes are identical and all events happen in both
@MiiBrawlerfan also more evidence of paper mario being canon
Does that include hotel mario? Mayotoa has been involved in mario games for years and old guys like him don't know there a thing called the multiverse.
@INFERNO95 yes...even that garbage
Forgot regular piranha plant in super smash bros
Why do the Dr. Mario World characters count as separate characters if you can't play as them at the same time as the regular versions of themselves like your criteria for regular Dr. Mario? Truly a question for the ages.
"the terrible Super Mario Land" How dare you?
What about the wrecking crew 98 characters
You missed regular Nabbit but got Dr. Nabbit somehow lol
Cranky Kong is for the leap day
(I pretend I do not see all people in the comments listing ones you missed)
Actually, Paper Mario counts as another character, in Paper Jam he fights alongside Mario and Luigi, the normal one, he is it's own character.
This adds Paper Luigi, Paper Peach and Paper Bowser from SPM as well since they are different characters.
Nope the other paper versions never appear with their normal alts
@@StibWoods Bowser and Peach do met their Papery Alts, and even tho Paper Luigi never met normal Luigi, he is still on the screen for the music selection in Paper Jam-they met their alts as other characters, therefore Paper Mario (and Paper Luigi, Paper Peach and Paper Bowser) should count as playable characters, since they are playable in SPM.
Mmmmm perhaps then
Counting Dixie is crazy
There's one I can think of that you didn't mentioned, it's Stanley from The Stanley Para.... I mean from these weird old arcade Donkey Kong games.
Baby Mario counted, but I don't think Baby Luigi was mentioned (correct me if I'm wrong) and he was playable in Mario and Luigi Partners In Time if I'm not mistaken.
Dr. Mario 64 had a cast of playable characters
Maybe my biggest blunder
8:05 You said OH LOOK and then a Bluey ad came. So it said OH LOOK BLUEY
Yellow toads name is Ala Gold, and blue toads name is Bucken Berry. I forgot where I got this from but I know for a fact that its official.
You missed a few characters from Mario Slam Basketball, having Ninja, Black Mage, Cactuar, Moogle, and White Mage. Adding 5 more, but a few of them may not count as they are from final fantasy. Did a little bit of research for this. Moogle is 100% from this MSB
Don't forget rayman in sparks of hope.
Great video dude
You forgot about a playable character who was featured in the box art of a mainline 3D Mario game tho
Whatever day of the year your birthday is on is your character, I got Kid
The Mario and luigi series right now 😭
I am gonna draw every playable mario character which y'all pick (I count games of those characters who are from super mario games as super Mario games characers)
Kranky Kong is the leap day character
i cannot believe there is still no mario game where you can play as cheep cheep
Odyssey
@@CreedoTheGamereh, that doesn’t count imo, i mean like a game where there is a character roster
You forgot the co-star Luma from Galaxy 2. You can play as him in multiplayer.
If we go by Mario Wiki's rules, then Wario games would also count, so you'd have to also add the cast of Warioware; Get it Together. (17 characters + Wario) Though maybe we shouldn't considering that maybe we'd also have to count every single character from every single Microgame...
I know it’s on Mario wiki, but my rules for what games qualified was if Mario was in the title or a protagonist
@@StibWoodsTHEN WHERE IS THE TEACHER TEACHING YOU HOW TO SWEATER IN I AM A TEACHER SUPER MARIO SWEATER!
Starlow and many of the characters from the mario & luigi serie aren't playable yet
Great video man, you deserve more views and subscribe, so funny
Super Paper Mario party members don't count? Also I love what you said at the end. We don't need Smash Kart cuz there's more than enough Mario characters.
What about Pac-Man, and Don-Chan in Mario Kart Arcade GP DX?
Do those count as Mario Characters?
No
Link has a better claim than Cranky Kong
What about mini mario and friends? Tbf they walk on their own but you still have to turn them off and on.
