    The Angry Sun is a good example of moderation. Its only appearance in Mario 3 was so memorable and unforgettable. Back then, first time players would think it was just a background element, until it swoops down to attack you.

      When I saw the Angry Sun for the first time as a kid, that thing used to scare the living crap outta me. Something about their angry look both in NES and SNES just makes it all unnerving. Not only that, I also used to make theories about why the sun looks so pissed off. It was either they were pissed at Mario because Bowser told them a lie and ran with it, or it was so hot that the sun just decided to fuck with Mario.

      nice to see someone else cares about the sunshine boos. and yea i'd like to imagine these are a separate subspecies or something... may or may not tie into my headcanon that the reason king boo looks so weird in sunshine is because its really just the largest isle delfino boo that decided to slap on a crown to make himself scarier to mario considering luigi's mansion king boo managed to trounce him and slap the mario into a painting

    • @ingothasnolife8040
      @ingothasnolife8040 Год назад +12

      The actual reason why the Boo's look like that in Sunshine, as well as most of the enemies as a whole, is because it's implied Bowser Jr. used his Magic Paintbrush to bring them to life, which is also likely why we never see any of the enemies from Sunshine ever again.

The red Sniffit from Mario 2 USA and the Dracula from Super Mario Land 2 are both unique. The green toxin bubbles, Torpedo Teds, and Boo Blocks from SMW also show up for only one stage each though there are several. It's like the designers were like "You know what this stage needs? Actually, Fire Chomps do make one appearance in later games than SMB3, and it's a weird one. Specifically in SM64DS, the weird black orbs that spit fire were retextured into being Fire Chomps. It's unclear if they were always meant to be Fire Chomps and they just didn't convey it well in original SM64, or this was part of the general retexture of a lot of SM64's weirder enemies to increase aesthetic cohesion in the remake, like the Scuttlebugs using their striped NSMB design instead of their marbled orange look. • @legoboy7107
      @legoboy7107 Год назад +10

      That actually reminds me, it's kinda funny how Nintendo has made Shy Guys like the default, basic main enemy of so many of the different Mario spinoff series _except_ the main series itself, where they almost never appear and instead the goombas are used. They're the main enemies in Yoshi's Island and the Yoshi Series, they're the main enemies in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, they're the main enemies in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, they've become VERY prominent in the later Paper Mario games, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. It's like almost everything _except_ the mainline games themselves lol.
      If the Wario Land series weren't the creation of R&D1 kinda "going rogue" and doing their own thing and who weren't very connected to the main Mario team, I would not be surprised if Shy Guys would have ended up becoming a main enemy in that series too, and I'm quite surprised that they're apparently not in Super Princess Peach, that seems like exactly the kind of game that would have them given just how much it directly rips from Yoshi's Island.

    Tbh, crowbers are actually a bit common enemies.
    Although not really mentioned to be them exactly, they are enemies on the Luigi's mansion saga, as crows are both background elements to form ambience and as actual enemies both in Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Luigi's Mansion 3.
    And in the mainline games, they reappered as assistants in Dr. Mario World, as part of some Lego sets, as origami enemies in Paper Mario: The Origami King, and in Mario + Rabbids as ambience characters; so even if obscure, they're definitely not forgotten.

    SM3DW, you're kinda forgetting Rammerheads, a massive W design. Also Conkdors are some of my favorite enemies in the series, they're so goofy I love them. As for Ant Troopers, they *are* genuinely very mechanically interesting enemies, the aerial gameplay they allow for, juggling the player on their heads without any other platforms to jump on, make for some great gameplay.
    This compilation really highlights the fact that NSMB just had so much more in terms of interesting ideas than its sequels that brought down its reputation (mainly NSMBU and NSMB2, I liked NSMBW a lot). That being said, I really appreciated that Brambles made an appearance in the movie, kinda wish some of these other enemies were highlighted.

    Even though Buster Beetles never came back, shell-less blue Koopa Troopas from Super Mario World act very similarly. They will kick various objects towards you, including Grab Blocks. The Outmaways from Super Mario Wonder are also somewhat similar, kicking ice blocks at the player.
    There’s more than just 3 dinosaur enemies in Super Mario World, you’re forgetting about Eeries (ghost dinosaurs), Blarggs (lava dinosaurs), and the Reznors (boss triceratops).
    I never thought of the Blockhoppers as being aliens, though it’s an interesting idea. Considering ? Blocks and Brick Blocks can be found all over the universe in Galaxy and in other dimensions in Super Paper Mario, I guess it’s possible.
    Crowbers are indeed only in one level in the original New Super Mario Bros, but they return in NSMBWii and NSMB2, and even appear in Paper Mario: The Origami King as origami enemies.
    You forgot about Bone Piranha Plants and Boohemoth from NSMB2, which I guess means that game has at least three original enemies.

And its kinda cool that the inside of it is red, like your actually going into its mouth. Plus the whole “sentient block if stone” thing that a lot of mario enemies have is just kinda interesting to think about, like does each side of this thing have its own consciousness? Does it see through all of its eyes at once? Anyway, im just a big appreciator of weird mario stuff tbh

    Nice work here Spin404! It seems like you're talented and you have a good sense of humor. It'd be neat to see more like this from you!
    Something you did well here was a good sense of pacing. A lot of lists like this can spend too much time on introductions, but you got to the main content of the video promptly. Videos like your Monopoly speedrun require more explanation but it certainly seems like you improved the pacing here by getting to the main content much faster. That's good to see! Likewise, for the main content you handled the pacing well too. You did a good job spending enough time on each enemy to explain it and have a joke or two, without making it take too long or rushing through. In particular it's excellent that you didn't have any annoying gimmicks that dragged out or a reliance on repetitive memes/references. That's a great talent to have at a content creator!
    Along those same lines, good work with the audio and video quality. The background music and your voice are balanced well where the music is quieter and doesn't drown you out, and your voice isn't too loud or too quiet. Thanks for not doing annoying voices or relying on loud noises for comedy! On the video side, good use of a variety of gameplay footage, concept art and other scenes for jokes.
    On that note, a major strength of your content here is the variety in the commentary. Fantastic job using various different jokes instead of repeating the same one over and over, and similarly varying what you commented on for each enemy from the designs to the names to the behavior in games and etc. That's really what keeps this format of going through a list of things interesting. Another strong point is the casual friendly tone you kept throughout the video. Did you write a script for this? It feels well-formatted enough to be scripted but the way you speak makes it feel more like a casual conversation. That's an excellent combination!
    Since you mentioned wanting to know how to improve in your comment, the first thing that came to mind is if you kept the variety and pacing up you could do longer content. You were doing a good enough job here that I was still wanting to hear more by the end. Another thought is you were doing a good job being lighthearted and humorous throughout the video and except for the Digga joke and the drug references it was family-friendly humor too. Since you can be comedic without relying on profane humor, if you wanted that family audience it seems like you could do just clean humor going forward and still be funny. Also, a good aspect of his video was how you were casually informative while still focusing on the humor, like when talking about the names of enemies or the in-game mechanics. It'd be interesting to see more trivia/information woven throughout alongside the comedy. Similarly, it seems like you have a knack for editing and it was neat to see you do things like the MSPaint doodles in your Minecraft video and cuts to support jokes here like the Scuttlebug calendar and the Grapenuts box so more like that would be welcome. Lastly, ending on a joke like you did here and in the Minecraft video is a great way to go out on a high note!
    You also asked about video topic ideas in your comment. It's impressive how your video ideas so far have been clever twists on popular content, like the Minecraft items in real life is definitely one of the more creative ideas I've seen for a Minecraft-related video outside of gameplay, speedrunning a boardgame like Monopoly is a clever twist on video game speedrunning, and even here it's neat that you just picked out Mario enemies you wanted to talk about and just did it instead of doing something more standard like a Top 10 list or Tier list or such. Also your January Holidays video was a fun joke too. Is there anything in particular you wanted to focus on? Since you handled this format well doing more weird/obscure facts in this lighthearted and comedic way would be neat, whether it's things in video games, board games, or just things in general. Your January Holidays video was well-scripted and a great example of clever sketch comedy so if that's what your interested in it certainly seems like you have a talent for it, but it might not get as much algorithm attention. The Mr. Eye in the Lego set was surprising and interesting to see, and you seem entertaining enough that if you have interesting things like that you could probably make videos just talking about them.
    In any case, whatever you decide to do I hope it goes well for you. Thanks for putting in the effort to make good videos for everyone. Good luck with everything!

    Note 2: Starbag: Funky coin coffer/moneybag but for Galaxy/Galaxy 2, these dudes are notable for being invisible but leaving footsteps in the sand, so they are actually found around quite a bit in sand levels/sand patches, and they show up if you hold still.
    Note 3: Cluckboom deserves a place on the list, boi tosses bombs like Lakitu tosses spiky children.
    Note 4: This is my most obscure foe (Took gamers about 5 years before they figured out where it is in-game in Dusty Dune Galaxy) the eye beamer. Found beaming lasers onto planets in strange hoop shapes, they scan stuff. Why do they scan things? Who made them? How did they get there and why do they shock Mario when he touches their eye beams? No clue, but you can jump on their backs as platforms, so there's that I guess.

    People hated on sunshines enemies, but I think they're awesome, I always imagine these enemies as variations of the classic enemies.

    Block-Steppers are great. The little panic they do when you squish one of their buddies is so endearing. Skipsquaks are also pretty cute.
    I don’t know if it really counts as an enemy per se if it doesn’t hurt you, but the Grumblump has an S-tier name and is just a weird little guy.

      Honestly grumblump is technically an enemy because I mean a lot of people struggle with those tox box look a likes.
      Also don’t ever ground pound them unless you want more of a challenge

    Thought this would be an analysis or explanation of Mario's enemies but instead got a much funnier video. You're hella underrated dude, keep it up
