- This incredible setup for farming experience was found by Cool Hand Luke, so all credit to him! This blows any other exp grind out of the water. I reached level 100 myself and it only takes about 30-45 minutes to get 3 or 4 levels. It's crazily good!
• W3 Exp Grind
Here are the key points for the video. You can also check out the videos CoolHandLuke made that go into great details explaining the nuances of the grind!
Setup
1. Use Ekimmara decoction + Tesham Mutna gear, mask, sword
2. JUST THE STORY: 3 exp per kill = Bookshelf from Corvo Bianco, +5% Monster experience trophy, Ursine Crossbow
3. Alchemy - Use bench for extra use of potions.
4. Build - TRICK SHOT, AT, HT, max damage, Low Vitality, Cat Eyes, Levity + CST
5. 6PM TO 6AM. IMPORTANT!! Fast travel approx 2pm from Corvo
6. Superior Maribor, Killer Whale, Superior White Rafford and Thunderbolt as the 4 slotted potions.
7. Preservation + grindstone if you want.
Grinding
1. Always shoot twice and keep the crossbow out. Doesn't matter too much if you miss the odd shot.
2. Find the exact correct spot. Mark it on the map with a Custom Marker.
3. Lock on where possible, reapply when it loses it.
4. Gets easier with practice.
5. Try to shoot the drowners before they start swimming. Can multikill them.
6. Time ingame will reach 6am efore the decoction or Corvo bonus do.
7. If Undying triggers, use Maribor to build it back.
8. If getting low on Vitality and missing shots, you can use Raffard to get back on track because you gives 3 seconds of invulnerability.

I just did my grind session yesterday. Took me 13 hours total to go from 61 to 100. I can not believe how good this spot is. I tried farming with other methods to get from 50 to 61 and man........THERE IS NO COMPERSION! Now I'm rocking with my level 100 Geralt in ng+. THANK YOU!!!

Great stuff dude! Check out the video of Sujiren's Conductors of Magic build; you might need to transition to that midway through New Game Plus as Piercing Cold loses effectiveness (usually around level 65-70).
@@DPhoenix237 the piercing cold build seems excellent for the fallen knights and arachnomorphes in HoS, but I'll check out something more substantial for Toussaint and the true end game challenges. The flair of a sign intensity build, blasting ice and fire seems really satisfying until it gets serious in the late late game.

Just did my first run of this! (I'm PS4 so I have to fast travel after each level) Totally legit! I only have the Tesham mask because I was a fool and dismantled the rest knowing I'd get it in NG+. Did 1 Level so fast I was amazed and its so easy! You and Luke are amazing! Will be ready for NG+ in no time!😏

IMPORTANT It seems that this method causes the PlayStation versions to crash and the game won't let you fast travel back to Velen/Novigrad once you've gone back to Toussaint/Corvo Bianco.
If anyone discovers a workaround for this, please comment below!
The only thing I could suggest otherwise would be to do the grind getting 2 exp per kill instead of 3 exp per kill once the Corvo Bianco exp buff expires. You would have to make sure that you have sorted everything else in Toussaint (inventory, stash, mutagens etc) before going to Velen so that once you've completed the grind, you've an start NG+.
Started doing this at lvl 52, upon reaching at lvl 60 this happens to me everytime I travel back to Novigrad/Velen from Toussaint the game will crash.. did everything I can to travel back but it only crashed the game..
WORKAROUND FOR PS4: The game appears to crash if you do the over do it when it comes to the farming. Through trial and error I've found you can freely warp between Ursten and Corvo Bianco without issue if you only do farm ONE level at a time, IE go to Toussaint, apply buffs, warp to Velen, farm 2000 exp (1 level), warp back to Toussaint, rinse and repeat.
I've gotten into a routine of saving my game on the shore when I finish a cycle just in case I need to roll my game save back again but so far there haven't been any problems, I'm up to level 76 now without any crashing.
Version used: PS4 GOTY Edition, v1.60 played on PS5
@@MagicMoogle we have the same version of the game and I played on PS5.. I did your method 1 time but the game still crashed maybe I'll try it again.. hope it works
@@abdelmangompia500 I'll try testing it out a few more times but so far it seems to be working - one thing I forgot to mention was that when I return to Toussaint and reapply the buffs, I reload my game save - maybe that is the difference?
@@abdelmangompia500 try only doing one level at a time before returning to Corvo Bianco. There seems to be some kind of counter for the drowners and once it reaches critical crashes the game upon reload. I tested it out doing 2000 exp (IE 1 level) before returning to Toussaint and I'm able to return to Ursten directly with no problem, however if I do the whole 12 hour 6pm-6am cycle which is about 2 1/2 levels, the game crashes. This might be the key.

I just started watching your death march walkthrough again for a new playthrough to get the achievement and said to myself that I would grind to level 61 to have max level wither gear and I was dreading it but this makes it super easy. Thank You Sooo Much
Tried this on the Switch version and my game crashed 5 mins into it, too many drowner corpses lol.

Haven't updated the game yet, waiting for the bugs to be fixed. They fixed Flood of Anger and Hunters Instinct iirc. If they kept FoA fix as in FCR3 that means that it allows us to use alternative signs without having them slotted wow. Also metamorphosis should activate 5 decoctions instead of 3. Don't know if they implemented these changes specifically. New builds of yours are going to be soooooo delicious it's unreal

I haven't tried it without the Tesham set but the majority of the healing is from the Ekimmara decoction so it might be alright tbh. Lemme know if you give it a try 🙂
@Phoenix237 It works fairly well without Tesham Mutna gear. It took a while to get the custom marker right. I am kind of slow on this as the gasping for air has me distracted too much. Thank you for all your advice on this game.
I'm getting better at it as long as I'm calm, and I'm not
afraid to die a few times in order to improve on my mistakes. Sometimes, I fire the crossbow too quickly or too slow, but now I'm averaging 600exp before I get moved by a Drowner, and i need to catch my breath again . Twice I hit 1k plus. I'll probably hit 100 by the time I master this.
So. I've decided to grind to 100 using this method that cool hand luke and you have brought to us. Im at level 85 and yes. On ps4. If you travel back to corvo Bianca each time you level. The game will not crash. So remember on ps4 or 5. If you travel after each time you level. You will be able to continue the grind to your uber geralt at level 100.

For those of you that had to stretch the mutagens to get cat eyes, you make bank with the mutagen generator with this grind. Much faster than the snail things farm spot for mutagens, and no weapon damage incurred to your sword 💣

For those playing on ps4. The maximum exp u can grind is only 3000exp. More than that then the blue crash will occur when u go back to velen. I suggest u grind only 2800-2900 for safet purposes. And always save before u level up. Goodluck on the path

No, because you don't count as being in combat, and you don't have your sword drawn.

I have all Decoctions and potions in the game except for ekimmara, the method is working but I'm not regenerating vitality fast enough, only from the bonus of the armor and mask, will have to go to surface for breath and dive again.
Still more efficient than other methods I've seen, thank you both
The Return of The King
If you remember be sure to pin a comment that says that you CANNOT fast travel back to Toussaint after killing a lot of drowners if you are on ps4-ps5, if you do this and try to travel back to Velen and Novigrad it will crash your game every time, making Novigrad and Velen unplayable unless you start a new game or ng +
Edit: Upon further testing I have found that if you quit the game after doing this and saving, you won't even be able to continue and re load the game, regardless of if you are in Velen or Novigrad already, this means that if you do want to use this glicth, be prepared to do literally nothing but pressing R1 for around 13 hours straight, either that or don't get off of the Witcher 3 untill you have the level you wish for. If someome has found a work-around for this please let me know.

Hello pheonix, i did the grinding and it's si great. But i notice something good, before starting ng+ i continued farming some money and weapon,and everything i looted was at level 100 if i activated up scaling. And its the same with merchant. They sale Armor and sword at your current level. And that BEFORE ng+.
For people who wanna do this all you gotta do is pay like 2% attention and just press RB occasionally. This method is amazing and you can watch a movie while you do it! This method is so goddamn good lvl 100 ng+ is gonna be lit 🔥

After my first session at grinding I returned to Covo Bianco to do get the buff again but now my game crashes when I ever I fast travel back anywhere in Velen and Novigrad. (PS5) can anyone help?
The same thing happened to me. I got to level 63. After that my game crashes when I fast travel to the Velen/Novigrad map.
suffering the exact same issue! i even deleted the game and reinstalled it which fixed it and then I got 3 more levels and went to buff again and then it happened again when trying to go back to that spot.. so I did the same thing and deleted the game again but it didn't fix it this time :(
Do you recomend starting ng+ at level 100 on my first playtrought? I have some doubts about that: Is it significantly less challenging than normal? is it possible to beat the djinn on death march? (i need the trophy)... and if i start ng + at level 100 it doesn't matter what armor my build has, they won't do any good in the new game
It just gives you flexibility of doing quests in any order, as XP doesn't matter anymore. All gear and rewards in the New Game+ will be level 100 or close to it. The challenge is already quite reduced due to good resistances on your armor, and any lvl 100 swords will do enough damage. Unless you do a Signs build, which faces heavy resistances at lvl 100, now that would be realy challenge.
I'm on PS4 and started this method and it worked fairly well till I reached lvl 83. Now everytime I try to fast travel from Toussaint to Velen the game crashes. Have anyone experienced the same issue? Please let me know.

@@marcelstutz1035 i've purchased the game of year edition and the version is 1.62. I've tried literally everything and I cant seem to figure out why it crashes I think maybe it has to do with the drowners and the bodies they make but idk
Found a solution! Had the same problem... You have to farm max one level than head back to Toussaint. Never farm 2 levels in one go, it'll break the Velen fast travel.

this method is excellent and still works. you don't really need al the clothing and whatnot just the xp boost. im level 60 and I always NG+ from that save file.
I used the hanse base to get max level. My favourite part of being lv100 from the beginning of the game has to be the freedom. I had cleared out Skellige right after completing DLC 1 to get the Iris sword from Olgierd, then moved onto novigrad then Velen.
Make sure to get rid of all your armour before new game + to get a level 95 set of the Kaer Morhen armour.
I did find myself missing levelling up after a while.
I'm loving my Level 100 NG+. I went STRAIGHT to Novigrad and am going through to Poet Under Pressure. Very first order of business is going to be getting my Legendary Grandmaster gear and level 148 TSKK.
@@DPhoenix237 Plus you need somewhere to sell your loot. Even the less expensive swords are 500-800 crowns each.
I had to rush through that particular bit of the game to save dandelion to gain access to grandmaster armour, as the toad from DLC 1 was one hitting me through quen. As soon as I got the manticore armour (and the skellige gwent cards cause why not) I went back to the first DLC.
@@DPhoenix237 I should add that I used Manticore as you don't need to find any other witcher armour to make it. Ursine would of been better.
Still, white Manticore looks pretty cool.
Yesssss! I'm holding off Gwent and going to play the entire game with the Skellige deck too. That's a fun deck, if a little less consistent than Nilfgaard or NR.
Nothing as fun as playing Cerys and the Maidens, or transforming the ridiculous Vidkaarls and then recalling them with the perk for round 3!
And yeah, I'll be going with either Viper or the Grandmaster Ursine Chest, so I'll only need to make one piece of the set and upgrade that instead if doing the whole Scavenger for every piece of the set.

Thought I had replied to this already, that's weird. Probably 12-14 hours or so? Took me 8 from about about level 65ish.

In 1.32, it's still the best way I know to level up. Although I only use Killer Whale and a double shot. Before I use up all the potions, I gain about 2000 experience points. Then I go to level up Aerondight and do other things so I don't get bored.
Still works perfectly in next gen!

Not to mention your damn nice builds :D (the decoction build for example,, it was fun to speed run thorugh toussaint with the one hit crossbow xd). Currently i'm level 57 on normal game and haven't startet NG+ but i want to start it then in the Next Gen version, still thinking which level i'm gonna hit best, and if 61 is enough jsut to get highest level grandmaster crafts later.
Can i have missed smth for NG+ if i left out Gwent completely in normal game? Bcs i did so and want to include Gwent fully in my Ng+...

Okey... This is fucking amazing! When I finally was done adjusting the ability points and found the correct spot, I gained 2k exp (1 level) in excactly 17minutes. That's crazy! Thanks to @Cool Hand Luke 🥰
Caution. May corrupt getting back to novigrad. Game crashed now tried everything. After doing this once I can't get back. I guess I'm doing NG+ at level 57. Works great though thanks for the video.

I have found a workaround for this glitch for console, however it comes at a cost. After you are doing this glitch and after 6am when the spawns effectively shut off, meditate until 10 am, then jump in the water away from the enemies and save your game. The trade off? You cannot go back to Toussaint and get the 5% exp buff ever again, as fast traveling to Toussaint locks Velen and Novigrad forever in that playthrough. Hope any of you found this helpful, Ill finally be able to start my ng+ playthrough soon

Haha nice find. Indeed cool way to earn XP faster. But I would still say I find your Hanse base grind better cuz not only I am farming for XP there but also for loot. By the time I reached lvl 100 I had astronomical amount money by selling those swords and all.
Yeah, Hanse is better for money. I find you only ever have to do that grind for a few rounds and you've got enough for everything you'd need though.

Thanks for that method! Works fine for me. I have two tips, how to make life maybe a bit easier. 1st: I put the crossbow-button to the keyboard. Makes it much easier for me, than using the mouse. 2nd: you can also use the Hen-Gaith-Set, which is easier to get if you missed the quest for the Tesham-Mutna, as I did ;) Cheers

Great vid Phoenix any tips on how I can obtain a ekimmara mutagen? I can't get one from the dragon grotto in velen , and unfortunately I didn't interfere with the byways contract as I was speed running story to get to this point. Can it be done without the decoction ? Or is there another way of obtaining a ekimmara mutagen
When you go to Skellige early, where you arrive on the beach, you find an Ekhidna nest close by. If you kill all the Ekhidna's, an Ekimmara will spawn. Save before you kill it. Reload if the mutagen didn't drop after killing the Ekimmara.
There are only 3 Ekimmaras in the game, unfortunately.
One during the Griffin School quest in Dragonslayer's Grotto, one during Following the Thread, and the last one is during Mystery of the Byways.
If you don't get a mutagen from the first two, save it before fighting Sarasti during the Byways quest and reset & fight her until you get it.
Ps. Louis you're thinking of Ekhidna not Ekimmara.

I believe it’s been patched or maybe just make the game glitch, after my frist round of grinding (until potions run out) my game crashes every time I try to fast travel back to Velen or Novigrad

@@DPhoenix237 i am playing the PS4 version but on the ps5, I think you might be right since the version is the same just on different consoles… funny thing is however that i was able to do 1 grind session where I was moving more around and using my potions more often, which didn’t crash the game
@@frederikussing-nielsen2698 That really is weird. Have you tried to meditate before fast travelling to Toussaint? Can you fast travel somewhere else first, like to somewhere else in Velen? Or to Vizima, and then fast travel to Toussaint afterwards?

second I wanted to ask if the fleet footed skill stop all the damage when it is fully upgraded or not cuz I heard some people say it is bugged or something
what I know that the game Has I frames for the dodge but it disables if you did another action quickly like attack or dodge and you need to wait to have i frames for the dodge again I wanted to know if fleet footed would work really anytime I dodge forward .

Have you tried using the dumplings infusion on a sword and the gourmet skill? It gives crazy regen!
Dumplings actually just doubles the length of time that food lasts, not the amount it heals per second. It doesn't make a difference here.
@@DPhoenix237 you're right, I just tested that. But the gourmet perk seems to help a bit when you break the rythm of killing stuff. Anyways this grind is absurdly good! I got from 47 to 50 just by testing stuff lol

Playing on ps4 whenever I go back to toussaint to restore well read when I try to return to novigrad game crashes
Hmm, haven't played PS4 one a lot; worked for me in a DLC only playthrough (although you can't get the crossbows in that).
Pulled this off once, tried to do it again and now I'm consistently getting blue screened every time I try to fast travel anywhere in the region. Is this supposed to be some kind of patch?
Trying to do this to get to 61 so I can get level 100 gear in NG+ but for whatever reason it just ruins my saves and makes the game crash over and over whenever I try to load a save that happens post XP grind... super frustrating

Click Right Stick (RS button). It's the same as autolocking with your sword attacks when on land.
Nice, does any sword overtake Aerondight as best silver sword on a level 100 NG+? Level 140+ swords sound op.
I've only recently got the level 140 swords so haven't tested yet. I doubt it matters much; damage is extreme with either with Euphoria if max damage is the goal. If max damage isn't the goal, then it's user's choice I suppose. I may test it eventually.
@@DPhoenix237 Yeah, seems overkill. Incidentally, I'm playing the ps4 version 1.60 and I'm gonna check out this method and the glitch people are talking about when I get there. I noticed that 1.60 is the last xbox patch and 1.61/1.62 were for ps4 only. I hope this saves me from the glitch...
I need help with Downers. I can't seem to kill them at all when they are in the water. Being level 100 seems to make them almost impossible to kill underwater. I'm using a level 29 Ursine crossbow. Maybe that is the issue?

I have found an interesting place in Toussaint. It was north near hans base and knight errant. The thing is everytime you rest for 1 hour 3 archers respawn near you and you can farm them endlessly, i raised my level from 96 to 97 in a moments but idk if saving and closing the game will ruin the method, so I will check it later.
Oh that's interesting. If you need to meditate it'd never be quicker than this though; this method insanely fast for exp.
im somehow to bad to do this and i dont get why, they just start swarming arround me, are to far away and i miss my shots... he also always put the crossbow away. I hate it. they just keep randomly surrounding me and if i try to surface i die... in kinda mad now

No, sadly not. The Ekimmara is the main thing that makes it work.
You could do it with the Killer Whale potion, resurfacing every now and again. As you can see, it lasts a long time, and you'd be able to use Undying too.
I suppose you could try it with Second Life and see how that works too. I didn't test that.

There's two Ekkimaras in the game that drop the mutagen. One from Contract: The Mystery of the Byways Murders the other from Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear
Three, actually! The one in Following the Thread can do too; worth saving before fighting any of the three, because you must get the mutagen from one of them, or wait for New Game Plus 😑

Cat School until u get Manticore pieces, minmaxing stats etc. I swear after watching your last DM walk-trough I became an fucking W3 Wiki, I know everything about this game - At what level to loot certain chest to get Tir Tochair at Level 11 to pair it with Griffin Silver, glitching trough textures to get Keira Place of Power, Skellige Quest Places of Power, abusing Bleed and Poison, having 100K Crowns before even starting Act after White Orchard, etc. XD I would be glad, since I really enjoy your videos.

@@DPhoenix237 Yeah, I know but that isnt what I meant, like in first playtrough you were playing sweet spot between damage and being able to tank hits, the start is always the same - Viper Swords, Temerian Set, Bleed Runes and Poison Blades but then, how about straight glass cannon character building - I always end up like this every playtrough, fucks defensives, fuck wasting toxicity and points on defensive, straight glass cannon minmax journey. I just love watching these videos from your perspective, theory-crafting etc. Like 75% of guides on YT for W3 are straight bullshit, since the ppl who do them, dont know a shit about this game. I considered making some walktrough videos too, but I lack the skill of editing since Ive never done it. Just a quick reminder that there are still ppl who loves your content, because its the best in terms of information, gameplay and quality wise.

Yes, if it's lower or equal level to you. Usually it's only 1 exp without this specific setup and difficulty. Grinding kills is not usually the way to level in W3; most of the exp comes from doing main quests.

Farming the level 99 wraiths added in the next gen version with Piercing Cold may give even more xp per hour. One run should take 2 minutes and give at least 400xp, meaning its up to 12k xp per hour.

@@shadowfax08 "Destroyed Bastion". You need the "Piercing Cold" mutation to be able to kill those enemies. If you bring them to 1 health with anything else piercing cold will not be able to finish them.

@@shadowfax08 Yeah, was thinking about that. And they respawn once you enter the exit portal. If you get out another way (edge of the world if you touch the symbol on the wall) the enemies wont be inside until you properly exit. And Geralt will be stuck complaining.

Don't do this if you are planning on playing ng+ on death march, esp if you still need that trophy on ps4. ng+ is totally unplayable as everything either one or two shots you. Fist fights become more insane than dark souls as you die in one hit... underwater combat? forget that... you need to shoot everything 10 times (even with cat eyes) while you get one shotted..
I remember playing this 5-6 years ago and death march on ng+ wasn't hard at all and I got the plat easy.. Now with the stupid goty edition it's simply impossible as the level scaling is just ridiculous and unbalanced. I am sure there mods on pc, but on ps4 you're seriously fucked if you over level in your regular game
nah, its still fully playable at a ng+ 100 start on Death March. Just think of it as "Dark Souls" Witcher 3.
I tried this build with Killing Spree and dangg my damage and crit is infinitely increasing.

Could do, but I don't know why you would want to. You get very little experience from quests if you're overlevelled.
Hey, not sure if this is occurring for you, but every time I finish this grind and I fast travel to toussaint then velen, my game crashes. Not sure why. And if this has to do with the pinned post, I’m not sure where that is
Yes, apparently the PS4 version crashes. The solution that people say seems to work is to do one level of grinding, them fast travel back to Toussaint and then back to Velen.
Read through some of the other comment threads on the video; people discuss it often, but I don't have have a relevant save on the PS4 version to be able to test it.

Yes it does. It's a minuscule amount of healing relative to the damage that drowning causes though.

Thats easily enough Places of Power. A lot of people have had problems on PS4 with this causing crashes though, just to warn you.

@@ariajh7548 Nah I haven't played it on PS3/4/5 so I can't test it. Only thing I could suggest is to maybe try fast travelling to vizima first and then to Velen or something, but I doubt it'll work.
EDIT: The only other thing I could suggest is to just do the grind without the Corvo Bianco exp boost, so 2 exp per kill. Still the quickest exp grind I know, but you'd have to make sure you had EVERYTHING sorted in Toussaint before travelling to Velen for the grind.

Be really careful with the crashing on PS4. I would probably keep completely separate manual save with it in Toussaint before even starting. I don't have a ps4 save with it so I don't know how to fix it if it goes wrong...

Is there any way I could get this to work on Death March or do I absolutely have to switch because I find myself getting 1 xp per kill with this method only and I would really like to hit 61 so that I have NG+ 100lvl witcher gear on DM.

How can I grind quicker now Ive finished both expansions and I’m only level 55? For some reason I’ve no teshan mask! Can I get back in the cave somehow? I’ve done all quests and I’ve only got 50 undiscovered locations in skellige and 2 monster nests in toussaint thanks
You don't really need the mask; most of the healing is from the Ekimmara decoction and the damage from Cat Eyes. Try it without he mask, see how it goes. Should be fine.
I can understand wanting to get to lv 61 so your witcher gear in NG+ will be lv 100, but why grind the additional ~12 hours to get to level 100?
Gear carries on scaling past level 100 in NG+ and starting at level 100 lets you play the game in different orders as quest and enemy level doesn't really matter.
