Witcher 3 Toxicity Mechanics, Using 5 Decoctions & Skill Switching
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 18 июн 2018
- The full, in-depth video covering the difference between Potion toxicity and Decoction toxicity, how to apply the Basilisk decoction, and how to use Skill Switching. Also covers how to deal with Kikimores if using Skill Switching, and exactly which pieces of Manticore gear to carry for applying 5 decoctions.
You can also use Skill Switching throughout the game and in the early periods. For example, if you only have 2 or 3 skill slots available, you could equip Acquired Tolerance and Metabolic Control, use a couple of decoctions, then swap those 2 abilities for something like Precise Blows and still get the benefit of the decoctions.
Let me know what you think, and thanks for watching! Игры
I love that this video which is a year old, about a five year old game, is still popular and quality. Good work
Thanks Sam, I love this game too!
Just starting new game plus on death march due to my lack of coin/ignorance IRL bc I hadn’t bought this game yet. It’s my favorite game of all time after playing it through once and I can’t wait to play through it until I go insane. Alc build is insane though! Might have to do something else after my NG + run. This game is an absolute GEM. I will play it for every ending/outcome/:dialogue. After reading the books and watching the show I can’t even believe CDPR added the detail to the game and Witcher 4 will be insane! Although it most likely won’t have Gerry ( as I call him) CDPR has cemented themselves in my G.O.D (Gaunter O’Dimm) tier category of game developers and I CANNOT wait for cyberpunk! Sorry for nerding out but I just recently was introduced to the Witcher universe and I am obsessed. Cheers, slainte, salude and to all I hope you get a troll mutagen from the rabid. bridge troll within your first 100 tries!
Phoenix237 hey man I seriously need help
I feel like this game will take a long long time to die, since it’s so replay-able
Haha i just got it last month
It's crazy how much depth there is to this game. I have beaten the game and both dlc's and im still learning features of this game. Just want to say thank you to Phoenix, it's people like you that help enrich the game and community
Same here. Been playing since release and still learning. Build diversity is amazing especially in new game plus. You will be surprised by just taking time out to read the descriptions for each perk especially in the alchemy tree. You can make some truly evil and interesting builds. For me combat and alchemy together are super strong 😃
i played this game a lot and im still learning interesting things and details too what a masterpiece ggs
So much for the skills yet the combat is boring as fuck.
yet combat is so shallow
@@infected89 c'mon guy, is that your only complaint? I'll admit that the combat isn't one of its strong suits BUT I'm more than fine with it especially when juxtaposed against games like bloodborne. Once in a while it's nice to have a game where the combat isn't too difficult but the biggest downside to that is it becomes repetitive and boring but that's what the story is for. For Christ's sake the normal mode is called story and sword and yes, i know that's more like just story but do you really hate on it because of that one feature? We all should demand more with our hobbies, especially expensive ones such as gaming, but i definitely feel like i got my money's worth with this game. And it's not your cup of tea I'm assuming, that's great, but why point out a flaw to someone who loves it? That just doesn't make any good sense bud. You got a rebuttle?
so, Geralt is a drug addict.
You know it!
This. THIS. Thank you for making a detailed yet easy to understand guide on these skills. This skill swap method is crazy. Might have to craft me some of that armor
You're welcome, nice that it is appreciated 😁

Wow this is the best tutorial!! I am so excited to use 5 decoctions. Thank you so much. You rock!

FWIW the Heightened Tolerance setups with Superior Thunderbolt do virtually the same amount of damage too, so it's up to you which ones you use and largely depends on your preferences.

@@DPhoenix237 a bit of an exploit, but smart video! Question: without the ability to use potions like Swallow of White Raffard's to gain back health, how do you handle the "oh s**t" moments if enemies ever surprise you or hit hard enough? Would it be wise to not pop Basilisk and leave a little toxicity open, for these potions? Love the videos, good content.
@@louisfriend9323 To be honest man, this Skill Switching is mainly used for the Whirl/Rend/Tank build...so there are no 'Oh shit' moments 😁
That build is virtually invincible, and also has Undying as a skill. The only thing that could potentially kill you is Caranthir, or bugged enemies like Upscaled Rats or the Upscaled Djinn...and even the bugged enemies often won't kill that build.
You can leave any toxicity for potions when using the Skill Switching as once you remove AT and Metabolic Control, your toxicity drops to 100 so you can't use potions.
If you want to use potions, then AT/HT/Metabolic Control can just be used instead of Skill Switching. With 3 decoctions + Superior Thunderbolt + other potions the damage is virtually the same anyway.
@@DPhoenix237 yeah that's what I suspected. I'm on my first death march with enemy upscaling playthrough, restarting after completing the main story in Blood and Broken Bones which felt like story mode without enemy upscaling. Looking forward to the Djinn, Caranthir and the rats :) , your build videos help and thanks for the clarifications!
Thanks, the is the only place online where these concepts are clearly explained.

The fact that I replied to a comment on a game that is almost 6 years old and I received a thumbs up from the creator of this video just goes to show how endearing the Witcher community can be. Thank you Phoenix237 for your extensive guides. I recently became a fan of the WitcherVerse and I cannot begin to tell you how useful your guides are! The videos are concise yet informative and your passion shines through not only in just your build videos, but also the extensive guides you offer as well. Thank you for the content you have put out and I also hope you understand that if you enjoy creating this content it not only benefits yourself, but also every person who happens to click on your content as well. You truly have cheated the "Witcher" way (not black and white). I hope you find success in whatever you come across in your path, and I also hope that you find Cyberpunk to be a reasonable filler before we see another game in the Witcher universe. From someone who has recently discovered this amazing Witcher lore and community , I thank you for putting in the time and commitment that you do to compose these videos.
P.S. - I recently got my brother HEAVILY into Witches 3 (partly thanks to COVID-19 ;)) - BUT he recently told me Olgierd as well as the "ornate robes" and some of the other gear from HoS were heavily influenced by Hungarian culture, which was very fascinating to hear considering we are both descendant from a grandfather who is Hungarian.
P.S.S. - Once again I am sorry for nerding out, but thank you for interacting with a reply I had to a previous comment, because it is so refreshing to see someone who still takes pride in what they have put out there after all these years.

Best video I have ever for this game. I like to use this with Flood of Anger as well which gives me all the sign bonuses at the expense of one skill point. Rage Management is a must have if you aren’t going to use potions.
Quen, good armor, good swords, and Whirl are the real must haves for a non-alchemy build.

Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching.
I think you meant Heightened Tolerance when you said Acquired Tolerance three times at the start of the video right (0:41-0:56)?

Hey man! Waiting on another video! I just want to add, that alcohol is treated as a potion for some reason and will cause Geralt to take toxicity damage. I just tested this out myself several times. You can make some really interesting builds in this game whether you are new or a veteran. I think a lot of people don't spend enough time just reading the descriptions of certain perks or gear equipment and decoctions. You can make some truly unique and evil combinations. I'm guilty of doing the same thing but now I take my time and understand what each skill actually does. 5 years on and the game can still feel fresh. 😃
Yeah it's fantastic. I do wish that all the skills and decoctions worked as they were supposed to, but you can't have such a massive game be perfect.
I agree, there's so much depth to this game. I remember buying it on release and all these years later I'm still learning new things. I know new game plus isn't for everyone but I really enjoy it for build diversity. It just takes to long to make a really overpowered beast on fresh start. My builds don't really start to shine properly until I hit Skellige. 😃
Hi, first of all thanks for all your tips on all your videos, they’ve been the most helpful I could find anywhere and it helped me understand the most technical aspects of the game. I still have a question however, you say toxicity can be compensated by troll decoction but do you know the actual rate at which the HP drops above the threshold? Will greater glyphs of mending be enough to balance it? Thanks again!
Thank you for the kind word! Troll decoction outside of battle easily compensates for the damage from toxicity so that isn't a problem.
However, in battle neither Troll decoction nor 6 Greater Glyphs of Mending are enough to compensate for the damage taken. That doesn't matter much because the damage dealt will recover HP easily due to the Ekimmara decoction whilst in battle.
I actually think that the Heightened Tolerance/3 decoctions version is a little better and a little more versatile because with Superior Thunderbolt as one of the potions, the damage is very close to the Skill Switching version of the build anyway.
My actual current favourite version is the even-more-versatile but lightly less damaging version, which uses 4 decoctions (Ekimmara/Arachas/Water Hag & Ancient Leshen) with Aard Sweep over Rage Management, and Fast Metabolism to allow the use of all 20 point potions in battle. Still highly damaging, but also versatile and has phenomenal utility by having Aard Sweep/Ancient Leshen decoction to knock back groups or stun lock single enemies.
I used it the New Game Plus walkthrough version of the build; I'd recommend checking it out if you haven't already 🙂
Alright thanks a lot for this answer ;) I asked this because I am using a hybrid build with medium armor and I am considering dropping heightened tolerance (I could really use the extra slot for aard sweep or fixative for example). All my gears have greater glyphs of mending but I still want to use potions and decoctions without taking to much damage from toxicity especially in combat ^^ I’ll definitely check your other video!
(1/30/23) Your vid is a big help for the toxicity mechanics. Thank-you. (Thumbs up)
Hiya, this is a little outdated so make sure to watch my Alchemy Almanac that I uploaded over the weekend.
Here's my dilemma:
I am already nearly finished with the core story on my NG+ Death March and was looking for interesting builds for the 2 DLC's. However, I don't believe I searched any of the Manticore diagrams on my original game; therefore, if I don't have any of the Manticore diagrams and am already on NG+ would I need to search all of the diagrams including both standard and legendary variants? Or just the legendary variants? In other words, since I don't have any of the original diagrams, are they required in order to begin crafting the Legendary armour in NG+?
Legendary Manticore doesn't need any other diagrams; you just get the diagrams in NG+ Blood and Wine.
Hey Phoenix I know I'm kinda late but I don't know what I'm doing wrong since despite only taking decoctions I'm still taking damage from toxicity. Don't know if you'll see this but thanks for your video, it's great!
Are you in Toussaint? Kikimores cause poisoning damage so can't use Skill Switching against them.
Otherwise just meditate twice before applying the decoctions. That'll usually work.
@@DPhoenix237 Yeah, that must have been it. Thnx for the quick reply and all the best to you.
Thanks for the build guide good Sir.
Was just curious what were the other decoctions you used? I couldn’t see which ones you put on besides the troll and hag ones.
Ah, well this is just a video about the mechanics so it's not a specific build, per se. In the actual build videos I go over what decoctions or potions I use.
Usually it is Water Hag decoction, Arachas decoction, Ekimmara decoction and then either potions on top of that with Heightened Tolerance, or extra decoctions instead.
A good combination that you can see me use throughout my New Game Plus walkthrough is to use the Ancient Leshen decoction ad the 4th one (when using Aard Sweep) and then using 20 point potions with Fast Metabolism and the Manticore boots on top of the 4 decoctions.
So really it all depends on your build, but those are the main ones. There are some other good decoctions too like Succubus, Doppler, Troll, Wyvern, Griffin and also some niche ones like Wraith and Foglet. So it all depends!
Acquired tolerance nerfed with the next gen patch, came back to see what i was messing up in the build that i was not getting 320 toxicity, but this time it wasnt on me
Yupppp that ain't on your bro. There's new buffed, powerful stuff to use though 😁
Would you be able to create update for this video for 4.0 patch with all its changes? I would love it.
Yep, it's on my list. Just need to fit it in amongst quite a few other things 👍
thx bro great vid
I heard the god mode no damage glitch applied only to 70%+ potion toxicity with the alchemy skill in the tree. Is that right? It has been patched to not include detection toxicity. Thus one detotoction might prevent god mode by preventing 70%+ potion toxicity. Is this true?
The God mode no damage glitch you're referring to doesn't exist any more because the 3 second invulnerability from Superior White Raffard potion doesn't get activated by Delayed Recovery, and I'm fairly certain that even with the Prolongation enchantment it doesn't last longer than 3 seconds now.
If it's invulnerability you're after, you're better off using my Whirl/Rend/Tank build to have insane resistances and reduce damage that way.
I was using swallow not white raffords with the patched God mode glitch. I’m not sure it works or not based on my play. White raffords definitely does not work. Already using whirl and rend after the potion of clearance before NG+.
@@SlowBoatSailing It definitely doesn't work with Swallow. Swallow doesn't have invincibility, it just heals a lot. It in no way heals more than the damage that enemies deal on Death March though.
Like I said, if you want a tank build, go with my Uber build.
I didn't answer your other question actually. Delayed Recovery is 70% potion toxicity only, so no it doesn't work with decoction Toxicity. I used Delayed Recovery in my Manticore Metamorphosis build if you want to check that out.
Dang, i never noticed i could use decoction from the inventory menu directly. I was swapping them out like crazy during a fight. Was kinda getting fed up with that workflow.
Get noise cancelling foam for your mic mate. Great video 👍🏻👍🏻.
I'm very new to this game so I'm learning all I can about alchemy. It's so involved. As I am watching this I'm trying to figure out how Geralt is wearing sunglasses during what appears to be the 12-century time frame. Don't get me wrong, the outfit and accessories are pretty great. But I believe eyeglasses may have been around then but not sunglasses as they came quite a bit later. I'm curious to learn how the developers incorporated that bit into the game. Maybe I'll come across it...eventually...I am only on level 11. LOL
Yeah, the glasses are available for bidding in Hearts of Stone at about level 32, so you're a way off yet!
Uh, are we really talking about sunglasses being out of place in historical context in a fantasy world with elves, dwarves, dragons, magic and monsters? Lol... i think historical accuracy is on a ship long sailed...

Thanks! There's a lot of info in my build videos and in the comments sections; watch through that playlist and that should help you out 👍
for kikimores, can't you just use superior golden oriole and even get healed when they apply the debuff to you?
Sure, but that's essentially the same thing because you can't apply Superior Golden Oriole if you're using Skill Switching so you'd need the Heightened Tolerance setup anyway.
Hi thans for the tutorial. So I started NG+ but when I use 2 decoctions and 1 potion (total of 160 toxicity) then switch form manticor to ursine armor, I'm starting to lose life. I'm using hightened tolerence but I don't why it doesn't work.
You have to unequip and then re-equip AT for it to pick up the toxicity again. With potions + decoctions you need all 5 points in HT in order for toxicity to cause no damage at 100% toxicity.
Great video 👍
Thanks!
Okay I think I somehow glitched my game. Drank a number of potions and decoctions before the final fight of the blood and wine expansion. As soon as the fight ended and the cutscenes began, I noticed that geralts face was all veiny due to the toxins, but that’s normal and has happened lots of times. However, several cutscenes later and even after resting several times, the toxic face is still there. I have 0 toxicity but his face is still totally fucked. Does anyone know of some way to fix this. I may just reload the final fight and see if it does it still (but that was a tough fight so I’d rather not)
Hmmmm, no idea tbh....I havent ever encountered this. Does it even happen when you fast travel to Skellige or somewhere, then fast travel back?
Can put the skill when ubove 90 potions and decoctions to never ware off
Do you mean Delayed Recovery? Delayed Recovery doesn't work with decoction toxicity at all; it has to be potion toxicity only.
That means no Water Hag decoction, Arachas decoction or any of those. It can be a powerful skill (watch my Piercing Cold playthrough, I've been using it in that) but it's high maintenance and isn't worth it imho.
The combinations of Decoctions and potions together are better.
hello pheonix, is potion toxicity calculated in itself or together with decoction toxicity? for example if i have 280 max toxicity and 210 of it is decoctions while the other 70 is potion toxicity, do i have %25 potion toxicity or %100 potion toxicity. if i have %25 potion toxicity i should stop using delayed recovery. also do you know of a way of keeping potion toxicity up for euphoria and delayed recovery (if the potion toxicity is %100) other than keep drinking potions?
They are separate, and you should definitely not use Delayed Recovery if you're using any decoctions. It is literally only based on Potion toxicity.
It is powerful, but it is annoyingly high-maintenance and I don't generally use it. I'm using it in my Piercing Cold playthrough, but that is only to have something a bit different than the standard.
There is no way to keep your potion toxicity up other than using potions. It is annoying because technically Delayed Recovery would be at it's best if you just use it by itself, but then you would only have 100 toxicity, so you have to keep close track of your toxicity and use potions as soon as your toxicity drops to between 85 and 70. This is tricky to do in the middle of combat, and often results in you losing your activate potions. It also means you can't keep multiple potions up between fingers unless you keep spamming potions, which is also irritating, easy to forget about, and means you have to meditate more often and start over again.
You can get around that by having Acquired Tolerance equipped too...but then would rather have Acquired Tolerance and Delayed Recovery with JUST potions, or have Acquired Tolerance and Heightened Tolerance and have 3 decoctions and potions as well? Or even have Fast Metabolism on top and have 4 decoctions and then virtually unlimited potion use in battle? Even with just Fast Metabolism by itself you're better off a lot of the time; the options won't be continuous, but toxicity goes done so quickly that you can just use whichever potion you want again as soon as it runs out. It's effectively the same, but easier to use.
Overall I think that you are always better off using some combination of Acquired Tolerance, Fast Metabolism and Heightened Tolerance. I wish Delayed Recovery was more convenient, but IMO there are much better options because of its mechanics.
Phoenix237 thanks for answering looks like i gotta buy a potion of clearance
I have heightened tolerance, acquired tolerance, metabolic control and four more alchemy abilities. When I use just four decoctions (water hag, succubus, ekhidna and ekimmara) my health depletes. Why? You just said that if the decoction usage gets to 100% it still wouldn’t drain hp. I’m confused what to do.
They changed the mechanics in 4.0 so that decoction toxicity hurts you. I am going to do an updated video.
I can use 5 decoctions but im still losing health i dont know what the problem is. Help meh
This DPS is actually insane
Properly-optimised Euphoria is ridiculous.
So, you can have 5 decoctions active if you use this method, but can you add any more regular potions on top of the decoctions? Or will those 5 take up all the slots available?
The 5 will take up all your toxicity. If you want 4 full decoctions and want to have ALL potions available, you need to be wearing some combination pieces of Manticore gear, or just the trousers or Chest IIRC (and have HT equipped if you want to avoid toxicity damage).
You can use 4 full decoctions + 20 point potions with just any one piece of Manticore gear. This is very effective with Fast Metabolism, as I used in my Ancient Leshen decoction version of the Rend/Whirl/Tank build.
Thanks you, appreciate it!
i miss 2 toxicity from acquired tolerance, but I think I have every oil, potion etc. I know there are 5 formulas from quests and i'm thinking that's what i'm missing. Anyone knows the list? There is pops antidote, drowner phereomons, trail of grass, what alse?
Cleansing Mixture from Hearts of Stone quest Open Sesame, and Shaelmaar Bait from The Tufo Monster contract I would think; have a check, see if is those ones you're missing.

my maximum toxicity is 182 without metabolism control. I have acquired tolerance. How can i increase my toxicity further? I have most of the decoctions & potions. Please help
The update changed thr toxicity levels as AT got nerfed. Now the max is about 194 with all recipes known.
Has this been patched? (Lvl 37 at end of HoS on NG) When I dose up on decoctions and replace metabolic control, acquired tolerance and heightened tolerance my health starts decreasing? Gourmet offsets it mostly but i only return to maximum health minus 1 point so water hag decoction is useless. Am I doing something wrong?
Usually just meditate once or twice before applying the decoctions.

Acquired Tolerance is based on how many alchemy recipes you know. You probably need to find or buy more alchemy recipes (from herbalists or alchemists).
When I drink Potions or mix Decoctions and Potions only then I have toxic face...I think that after drinking ONLY Decoctions also appeared toxic mask in the past...or it's buggy xDDDD or Is it supposed to be like that?---after drinking only Decoctions, toxic face does not appear...
hertores Hmmmm, I'm not really sure to be honest! Most of the time when I'm using Decoctions Geralt does seem to have the toxicity show up on his face though; I've never paid too much attention to that aspect.
:D I always catch the details xDDD but if you ever drank to the max with only decoctions you can let me know---toxic mask or not xD
Cool to know and may come in handy during big boss fights, but constantly switching around like that for every fight would be annoying lol
Yeah, it's not every fight, fortunately.
Decoctions last about 45 minutes with this setup, so it's more like once every 40 minutes unless it's one of the rare occasions where decoctions end for whatever reason (like Kaer Morhen) and even then there are other things you can use for those short periods.
How will this work with the nerfed Acquired Tolerance on the Next Gen update?
In a word....differently. I've got a lot of content I want to make but this needs redoing. You can still use Skill Switching to save on inventory slots, but the toxicity will hurt you so you'd likely want to swap Water Hag for Troll decoction in whichever setup you're using.
i still dont understand how the quen sign isn't easily destroyed. I always lose it. Does it have something to do with sign intensity? Somebody help? Just an Amateur here
No, it's because of the resistances. This video doesn't really show Quen taking many hits though? Were you watching one of my build videos?

That's pretty neat, but it feels like an unintended bug that the devs clearly missed.
It's their own fault I suppose for not making decoction toxicity hurt Geralt but either way I don't think I'll abuse this myself.
Just completed my first run of the game on normal, running a Sign build (was annoying that it didn't really perform well until I got to Toussaint...) and it's been a hell of a ride :O
Just waiting for that next gen update now.
So you don't necessarily have to run the basilisk decoction if you have that much toxicity right?
Correct. It adds a little Euphoria damage but far, far, far from necessary.
@@DPhoenix237 ah alright got you bro..you got any recommendations for the 4 best decoctions to run for God build?
@@Thebizkit123 yeah, check the builds playlist on my channel for the OP WHIRL/REND/TANK Build 👍
So if you use decoctions with the right perks u can do more damage?
Yes.
I know it’s situational but what’s the best 3-4 devotions to use??
Depends what you're devoted to, I guess 🤪
Water Hag, Arachas, Ekimmara + potions, or Ancient Leshen with Aard Sweep.
If you reach 100 can you unlock all character upgrades. Also what level should i do this. I am currently level 43 this is my second time playing it.
If you reach level 100 you'll still be nowhere close to unlocking all of the upgrades, there just aren't enough points in the game. You get easily enough to complete a full build though, unless you're trying to get all end-tier signs, Alchemy and combat skills or something.
As for when you can do Skill Switching, you can do it as early as you like. You'll not have the Manticore gear until level 40 at least though, so the full 5 Decoctions Skill Switching can't be done until then. You can use Skill Switching to use 4 Decoctions as early as you have 280 toxicity, which depends on how many Alchemy formulae you've found.
Phoenix237 thank you i will try it now. Using 4 is better than 3. And europhea something is op
I saw on the wiki that without heightened tolerance, the HP is never at 100%, it will be at most 1 less hp than max, which makes water hag useless. Is that true?
Depends. As in the video, if the toxicity is from decoctions only, the no.
If the toxicity includes any potion toxicity and you don't have HT, then yes...Water Hag will not be in effect.
@@DPhoenix237 Oh interesting then, so even if the health goes down gradually in the same way, if the toxicity is only with decoctions the game treats it differently. Alright I also see you run protective coating, how do you feel about swapping it for poisoned blades?
No, if your health is going down then that is because of Potion toxicity so Water Hag won't work because you're not a full health.
Like in the vid, the point is that when it is only Decoction toxicity you don't take any damage at all.
Also, Protective Coating is godlike and a top 3 skill imho. Poisoned Blades is good, but it takes time to kill stuff. Protective Coating with the right build can make it so that you are virtually invulnerable and kill things quickly too. Check our the Whirl/Rend/Tank build in my builds playlist.
You could though if you wanted to.
I don’t really like adding decoction and armors that doesn’t look good because I just like looking good than being good and I still manage to kill every monster that comes in my way also I like using Wolven armors cause it looks good and it fits Geralt
Where do I find all Alchemy Recipes. My toxicity with acquired tolerance is just 250 ish
They're all found in random chests throughout the world. The alchemists usually have the recipes for sale as well, particularly Gremist in Skellige and the Perfumery in Toussaint.
What are the main decoctions do you use
Depends on the build. Usually some combination of Ekimmara, Water Hag, Arachas, Ancient Leshen or Ekhidna.
Just started witcher 3 on ps5 couple weeks back. But why does the skill tree look so much different here. Is this a PC version with mods or so?
Nah fella, it's because this is in the endgame after doing a certain quest in the Blood and Wine expansion that gives Mutations and changes aspects of the skill tree.
Okay did a quick google. its mutation system. Will be unlocked way further in the game than my current progress
@@DPhoenix237 thanks for the quick reply
I seriously need your help with this Decoctions stuff man please
Ah, well I explained it as best as I'm able to in the video man. If you want to then you can just use 3 Decoctions, Heightened Tolerance and then potions on top, which keeps things simple.
How do u have those extra skill slots in the middle?
They're the Strengthened Synapses slots that you get from unlocking Mutations in the Blood and Wine DLC.
@@DPhoenix237 Oh thx for the info now to spend about 30 hours getting there from velen
@@tobydude7462 oh shit we got a speedrunner over here
Good video, i was wondering... What set are you running for max DPS? I am thinking 3 Legendary Manticore+Nilfguardian Guardsman Gloves. Would you agree?
For absolute max DPS it would be Legendary Manticore chest and boots, Nilfgaardian Guardman's Gauntlets and New Moon relic trousers. Those are the gears with the highest Critical Hit damage boosts.
Please check out my Rend/Whirl/Tank build, which does immense damage but also means you take virtually no damage whatsoever! The DPS in that build is practically as high as the one above, and it is the best build possible IMHO. The video is on my channel.
I'll also be doing some Hybrid videos, including offensive-based ones too.
@@DPhoenix237 I've watched it already, but the problem is i dont't really want to switch gears after getting that 240% boost in sword damage and sign intensity. That is why i was wondering if it were better to use 3 manticore+ngg to keep that 240% boost or maybe go with feline chest, new moon trousers, ngg and manticore boots and get 210% boost from euphoria + that 22% attack power bonus from feline while having higher critical hit damage.
@@uncledrew3053 Uncle Drew Ah I see. Well, in that case I'd say your best options are to either go with the tank/Uber build and just have a little less toxicity, or to go with Manticore for 320+ and go more glass cannon. There are loads of possible combinations though, so tailor it to your preference. I've just uploaded a video today that goes over options for Hybrid builds, and includes an overview of hat gear and skills you need to hit each Toxicity benchmark. You may have already watched the video from last week about the NG+ build and how to get an extra ability slot, so consider that too.
You need to decide if you want Water Hag decoction and Heightened Tolerance, and if you're going Decoction-only or want to use potions too. Using potions would need significant changes, so I'll assume you're talking decoctions-only, and will assume no glitch for the 3rd Strengthened Synapses slot. So just starting NG+ at about level 52-54 with 2 mutation slots.
Manticore and 320 toxicity would be Manticore chest/trousers/boots and Ngg. You wouldn't have as much adrenaline gain so Rage Management would be less useful. You would swap Undying and either Rage Management or Sunder Armour for Acquired Tolerance and Metabolic Control. Decoctions would be Arachas/Water Hag/Ekimmara/Basilisk and either Troll or Succubus. This would be about 7.3k Silver DPS and 5.5k Steel DPS. You'd hit extremely hard and everything would die in a couple of hits, but you'd start to really notice the damage increase from enemy hits throughout NG+. You can't upgrade the Manticore armour to legendary until Blood and Wine, so you'd essentially be playing with a glass cannon build for much of the game.
Ursine + Undvik trousers would be lower DPS, but you'd still have the ability to tank hits throughout the game, and you'd be able to upgrade to the Legendary Ursine chest in due course. I doubt you'd notice much of a power dropoff to be honest. DPS is one thing, but in terms of actually playing the game, the ability to tank hits and still use Whirl and Rend means that in real-time you'd probably still kill the enemies quicker because you'll spend less time waiting for Quen to recharge and more time killing monsters.
I would recommend that you try both setups; if you have enough crowns then go into NG+ with the Ursine chest and Manticore chest, making sure to put Levity in both. Then you can just switch and see which you like best!
I'd definitely say the Manticore version would be far better than the Feline version though. The feline version wouldn't do anything better than the Manticore version.
How do you get the main health bar its self green
It's the toxicity from having so many decoctions/potions.
@@DPhoenix237 thx
I love this game! The Best!
Fantastic game.

You must be missing quite a few recipes. Have you got all the recipes for transforming all of the mutagens into different colours? Have you got all 5 quest-related alchemy potions?

There are some in Blood and Wine, yes. There is one recipe the Tufo Monster contract and a bunch for converting mutagens to one type or another. I'd imagine it is some of those that you're still missing.
There's also one from Hearts of Stone (Cleansing Mixture) from the Borsodi auction quest. There are 5 Quest recipes in total.
Phoenix237 Hmm, I see. Thanks for explicit explanation, I appreciate it. (:
When do you get the extra skill slots? Lvl 60?
No, they're part of the Blood and Wine DLC mutation system.
@@DPhoenix237 if I play and complete blood and wine, then play NG+ on the main game, will the extra new slots carry over? Or are the extra slots only available in the BAW DLC?
@@cutiepie5884 Yeah they'll carry over. It's one of the best things about New Game Plus IMO.
@@DPhoenix237 That's nice!
What if I complete BAW and then go back and resume my first playthrough (not NG+). will I have the extra slots?
I'm surprised to see you're still responding to comments after all this time, but the bigger surprise is that nobody seems to have my problem. Are you sure this wasn't patched out? Because when I quaff 5 decoctions then swap gear or ability points (lowering my toxicity cap), Geralt starts to take damage. Additionally, my Euphoria buff on screen reads 240% still, but in the character screen, it says the cap is lower when I reduce my max toxicity -- I haven't tested damage numbers to see which one is correct yet, but mostly I'm sad that I start dying if I try to swap.
Edit: Okay, I tried sleeping then doing it all over again. That fixed the issue, somehow. And did damage tests, lowered toxicity cap did not reduce damage from Euphoria. Sorry to bother, but if anyone else gets confused why they're taking toxicity damage despite doing everything correctly, try sleeping a day off.
Yes, this happens very, very infrequently but it's so infrequent that I haven't been able.to identify an underlying cause. It's possibly having residual potion toxicity, but I don't think so.
But yeah, meditating and reapplying the decoctions always fixes it, and the damage is always active from Euphoria in combat regardless of whether Skill Switching has been used to reduce the toxicity cap back down to 100.
I actually use Heightened Tolerance/Fast Metabolism versions of most of my builds nowadays because I really like the increased versatility.
@@DPhoenix237 Actually I think you're on to something about residual potion toxicity. When I did this, I had used a potion much earlier. The toxicity from it was all gone, but I think the fact that I *had* taken a potion at some point is what triggered the bug.
I take it you're not running Euphoria with Fast Metabolism? Or does it only metabolize potion toxicity, meaning you run 3-4 decoctions and then the occasional potion?
@@timothypearson9728 Yeah 4 Decoctions with Fast Metabolism, and then it only affects potion toxicity. It's effectively infinite potion use on top of decoctions. The only drawback is no 25 point potions unless using Manticore trousers or chest, so you have to decide how offensive you want to be.
4 Decoctions plus the 20 point potions is absolutely incredible with the Whirl/Rend/Tank build though. Probably the best version of the best build.

I'm concerned there's something fundamental I'm doing wrong lol, The main thing that sucks for me is fighting underwater because crossbow does 0 damage. But yeah, I just start fights with Quen and the correct oil then hack away like a monkey and it usually works, if things go hairy then rolling around consumes stamina and heals me.

What steel sword you using??
Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword.
I've 187 toxicity and I use 2 decoctions at 50 each and it drains my red health bar?
Yes, they changed some of the mechanics in patch 4.0. Acquired Tolerance was lowered and decoction toxicity now hurts you even by itself.
So can I only use one decoction
@joshh4005 If your toxicity is over 50% then you just need to make sure you're healing enough to offset the damage from toxicity. For example, using 3 decoctions and one of them being Troll decoction. Or setup like my new Metamorphosis build.

That's so trash bro I was wondering if it got patched@@DPhoenix237
How does delayed recovery work?
I think I discussed this a little bit in my Metamorphosis build video.
Delayed Recovery works on potions toxicity ONLY. Decoctions effectively cannot be used with it because their toxicity doesn't count.
If you keep your potion toxicity over 70% of your maximum toxicity then potions last indefinitely. For example, if you have 100 toxicity you have to keep your potion toxicity higher than 70. If you have 129 toxicity, you have to keep your potion toxicity higher
It can be really powerful because if you keep the toxicity topped up then you can have Superior Tawny Owl, Thunderbolt, Maribor, Golden Oriole and Black Blood all active throughout a whole fight AND constantly have Superior Blizzard and Swallow active, which is incredible.
The drawback is it is quite high maintenance. If the toxicity drops below 70% them the potions which would've run out already stop working.
Technically you only need Delayed Recovery by itself; you don't need Acquired Tolerance because you can keep using potions to stay above 70 out of 100 and the effects are the same.
Practically I find it annoying to keep toxicity constantly topped up and try to remember to use potions when my toxicity has dropped to 75-80 because that's a small window of time.
It's easier to have Acquired Tolerance equipped, use ALL the potions at the start of a battle and then keep them topped up.
The question then becomes 'If you're using two slots for it, is that really better than a decoctions + potions setup'?
Delayed Recovery is extremely powerful, but too finicky for me to usually use it. I really wish it had a 50% threshold or that it slowed your toxicity recovery or something. It can be extremely powerful though; check out the part of the Metamorphosis build video where I use it with Blizzard, or the Sujiren Conductors of Magic build video part at the end of that.
@@DPhoenix237 thank u for getting back to me so fast! But shit that ability is crap
I don't know why but I'm stuck at 247 base game, completed all the known oils, potions, concoctions etc etc. I want to hit 250 then get Metabolic to at least do 4 concoctions at once.
You can't hit that without Blood and Wine. 277 with Metabolic Control is the max IIRC.
HoS gives Cleansing Mixture (+1) and then Blood and Wine has the Mutagen conversion formulae and Shaelmaar Bait to take it up to 267 (+30 Metabolic Control). Manticore gear can add more, but that's Blood and Wine only, too.
