the scene when lane was out late at cbgbs and mrs kim didnt know and shes running around in the middle of the night looking for her and shes in front of the diner talking to luke "she told you, she told lorelei, everyone but me" breaks my heart
Mrs. Kim truly cared for lane just in a different way that a lot of people could relate to. gg representing different mother daughter relationships is so compelling for its time
'Kims don't quit' was probably one of my favorite moments of the show, as well as when it turned out she had a bottle of booze hidden deeply away for dire situations.
When I think of Gilmore Girls, I think of Sookie or Kirk. For some reason, specifically that moment when Lorelei is on the phone with Rory and says she has to go because someone is standing uncomfortably (?) close to her and Rory replies “ok, say hi to Kirk for me”
I freaking love Mrs Kim's character development. Also, I wish they made a spinoff just about Lane's life (like they were supposed to do with Jess but sadly it didn't happen).
To me, Mrs Kim is an judgmental and abuse parent. She does have a good character arc and sees the bad she did with the way she raised her daughter and works very hard to make up for it. You don't have to be a bad person, to act abusive. It's a clear reoresentstion of breaking generational trauma, which is beautiful.
@@Silverscreenfreak YESSS! I thought about it during the series, she wanted to "protect" Lane from the world, but when she finally sees the real Lane, she supports her like the mother she is.
Always loved her, all the way, all the time. Almost all her decisions and attitude. Maybe because seems like my parents, without the Christian stuff (well so so).
While i get the issues people, including me, have with these women whom at their worst can certainly be seen as emotonially abusive, i do see them both as awesome matriarchal characters. Not to say they would be fun to know, but entertainment is filled with characters we wouldn't want to know/be. So is life, its just a version of it that is both softened and over exaggerated, yes, occasionally poorly executed. But Mrs Kim and Emily are two of the most watchable characters. And in a show like GG which has an soft and fuzzy aesthetic, it doesnt do gritty, "real" portrayals of many things. particullarly early on. And while i have mixed feelings sbout Lane's marriage and pregnancy, and i thought that wedding storyline (also Paul Anka the dog and TJ to an extent) were the areas that helped retain some of the more lighthearted elements in seadon 6. While i get they can be controversial to some fans, giving, i think the actors gave such compelling performances, and defintely softened Mrs Kim overtime, helped make them 2 of the more consistently watchable characters throughout the whole series.

it wasn't perfect, but it was surprisingly good migrant representation for its time
Agreed!
I felt like the line that was missing was mama I'm not a child anymore.
You’re right😭 big moment of realization for Mrs Kim

I like Mrs. Kim. I think her and Lorekai's friendship was one of the best parts of GG.
I really understand her when I was watching the show, she is a human
Btw, a great video
Yes! Growing up is realizing that she is not a villain, she was just a caring mother 😢

I love her 😢 ❤
This video is so underrated

I wish Mrs. Kim is like Lorelai. I feel like she's too harsh on Lane.
