MUCH more clarity, internal integrity and harmony, warmth, richness and fullness of sound in your own mix. You are really good at what you do, and I would never exchange the many careful and deeply considered choices you have made in crafting your own mix with the 'indiscriminate' output of a single plugin that pays no heed to all those choices. Many thanks for all you share on your channel - always interesting, helpful, well considered and of real substance and value. You're a stand-out favourite.
Wow, thank you very much for all that praise 😁. I am not considering actually replacing my mix bus processing but just wanted to hear the difference. It’s pretty good for a single, all in one, mix bus processor if you don’t want to dig into all the details like I do 😉.
The guitars were a bit more clearly defined with the God Particle, but the overall mix has much more power with your mix bus processing. (Hi from Brazil!)
I use a masterchannel chain already at the tracking stage. This consists of God Particle for lifting/boosting the sound in general, especially the lower mids, Fresh Air from Slate Digital to open up the wideness and make the mids and highs sparkle without being oversaturated, then finally BB tubes from Waves for punch and tube feel on the drums and lower ends. Finally I use Soundtoys Rack 5 with phase shift and sometimes echoboy and a little eq:ing on synths/keys and SSL Drumstrip for tightning up drums and percussion. This means my mixing process after audio bounce only contains minor adjustments with eq, compression and creative effects plus reverb/delay.
The vibe I immediately get is GP comes off more as another tool, than an end all be all. It's not often, but there are times when efficiency & keeping my momentum going is important enough for me to go with a simpler choice during any given phase in the process of finishing a track, outside of mastering. In those cases, I think GP might do quite well. When I'm really deep in the trenches, making micro-decisions that may go unnoticed by all but those with very trained ears, I would likely default to tools in which I have invested much more time & intuitive feel for. There's also a particular quality to the mids/low-mids I think GP does a pretty solid job of adding, but my ear seems to catch a bit of loss of high-end clarity & sparkle using GP vs your own earlier mixes. It may be that you didn't mix in to GP from the start as you said, so it's hard to say GP couldn't garner similar results if you begin the mix with it. I just don't think I would personally risk sacrificing the dynamics and high end clarity, unless that's what I felt the specific track called for, or I was pressed for time. Just my two cents.
Your original mix chain is more pleasing and natural to my JBLs. I prefer them over the God particle. I think the God Particle is pretty good, it's about preference.
One by IK Multimedia on the mixbus, for me. Sometimes the Lurssen Mastering Console, on the mixbus, some Tape Emulation then into the Pro L2, on the stereo out. I think the G.P is for professional mixers, whose time means money. Personally, it would take part of the fun of mixing but i'm sure it sparkles in all the right places!
Great video and song! I liked both mixes I think that God Particle Plugin was a little bit smother and seem to round off the kick and bass guitar with a little more sparkle and warmth on the mix. I'm currently trying the plugin out. I really liked your lead vocal. I would like to know what plugins you used on the channel inserts and what reverb/ delays effect were used also the vocal external chain was used too. Thanks so much for your time and talent. 😎
Thank you! Not sure of your mean the first or second song but for the first song I did a live stream going over the whole mix: Checking out an acoustic mix! ruclips.net/user/liveTjNUnGCrXtk?feature=share

sometimes I use it as part of my process chain, I never use it individually in the master, sometimes something revealing comes up and other times not so revealing, it is one more sauce in the industry
the originals sounded clearer, that's for sure. but in some way I liked how vocals had more low mid weight in GP versions. Going back to the original question I think yes , for the quick mix buss treatment and if its not the final master it can replace all the carefully tuned inserts and save time. The difference is there but its not night and day. and might be even less if you mix into the GP plugin from early stage.
Apperently the high end target is not vosualiser because he keeps the highs uncompressed. So it is done by ear. But no idea why they added it to the ui is the high is always non visualised
So I will add my 2 cents: I think for the first song your original mix is by fur better. On the secons song I find the God Particle sounds better. So my conclution stays and is that there no "one stop shop" solution when it comes to mastering. It is caes by caes senario while my impression is that the God Particle plugin is another good tool to have in the Mastering plugin bank. Thank you Maartren for another interesting video!
Question: can't you just use GP and tweak it after to make it more wide and less harsher for example with some things you already had on your mix buss? That way the GP is a tool to come close to what is needed and you tweak to taste after. Playing around above 100% can be good as well, it depends per song. Gulfoss is a good one to put after GP as well and the limiter of Gp only 2 or 3 db and another limiter after that that does 2 or 3 db, that way you are not pushing one which helps against harshness and/or distorting. Could you play around with it like this and let me know what you think after please.
Hi yes that might be an option to make it sound more similar. But in this video I just wanted to see whether it could replace everything on my bus as advertised. By the way I can no longer try your suggestions as my trial of the particle has run out.
I agree, Joshua. Also, below 100% can be more suitable for some mixes - I find 100% is rarely what I need on existing mixes - it's different song-by-song. Probably would be more workable for mixes that were mixed into GP at 100% from the start. And I also love to use it with Gullfoss too. These two (and maybe a tad of the Brainworx Focusrite SC on occasion) have been replacing most of the other plugins that were on my mix bus.
You should consider the following: The original mixes sound so good because the dear and friendly colleague at Lanewood Studios has been working with such plugins for years and now knows what he has to do to make it sound so good in the end. This can take years! The more plugins are inserted, the greater the risk that "inexperienced sound tweaks" will degrade the sound (the mix). And now this one Cradle God Particle Plugin comes along and is able to generate almost as good mixes. And here and there maybe (...) even (slightly) "better" mixes. A single plugin! Think about what that means... The other thing is this: have you ever considered how music is mostly listened to these days? In our home studios, amateur or semi-professional, we listen to these comparison mixes with full concentration and via headphones and then notice any subtle (!) changes. We have more or less trained ears. And now I ask you: The people who listen to their Mp3 songs with Bluetooth headphones on the tram, bus or train, in the gym, while cycling, jogging, shopping in the city, etc., notice them at all fine subtle changes?!? We've been messing around for hours with mid/side, saturation, 0.5 dB here and 0.5 dB there... all subtle changes and subtleties that I don't think these Mp3 and music consumers notice at all... Mind you: I'm referring only fine and subtle changes and not whether the mix booms in the low end and the highs are much too harsh. Because everyone hears something like that, even normal and untrained standard music consumer ears. But we have fun with the fine adjustment, but more or less (!) we do it all for ourselves... and that's a nice job after all...🍀🍀🍀
Oh yes I absolutely know what you mean and it is a very valid reason for this plugin to be there and be liked so much. Maybe I'm a bit surprised by the praise it gets from all the big names, because I'm pretty sure they can surpass the results of a single magical plugin. But if you're new to the game, it will probably get you better results than going the traditional way, and it is definitely more easy to setup. As for the listening habits nowadays, yes a valid point as well, but it does not make me try less hard to get the best sound I can get. For myself and the few who want to appreciate that side of a song. Thanks for watching and sharing your well considered opinion on all of this!
Thank you very much for your feedback. That exactly how I see it to. Achieving the best possible sound for me. That's why I thought more or less, we do it to our own satisfaction. It's ok.
The Clarity and depth of the low end of the God Particle Is better but no one yet has looked at it with oversampling which is significantly different. and yes oversampling is a processing Hog. I would mix into the standard sampling version, turn it off , export the mix and master the stereo track with oversampling.
Very interesting episode!, thanks for the good work. I wonder how you see this Particle Plugin in relation to eg Ozone of Izotope and its mater assistent. And what also struck me is that you hardly use stock CB plugins in your master chain.. you think these are not good enough? 😊
I don’t have a lot of experience with Ozone so can’t say. What I’ve seen of it though is that Ozone tailors the setting more to the material at hand. And yes you are right, I don’t use stock plugins very often. I think the bought plugins inspire me more but I did compare a mix with stock plugins and a certain bought channel strip. I haven't seen a single mix (including on Jaycen's videos) where the highs meet the target on The God's Particle....I think he mentions that if you see the high band hitting the target, that means you're over doing it
I heard him say that the high target isn't really a target like the other two. It's a warning. That if he goes over it's definitely gotten too crispy. Also he didn't really recommend mixing into something else and switching after. But to mix into it from the beginning.
Yes I heard that later too, about the high target. As for the test, I just wanted to hear the difference with the same mix. Results may have been better when inserting the GP from the start indeed.
@@LanewoodStudios I'm going to demo this for myself soon. I really don't it would be the only plugin on for masterbus for me, or that is use the limiter (lots of aliasing) but the targets especially have me really curious.
