Yukon River Moose Meat Processing Stan Zuray

- Putting up moose and caribou meat in the Yukon River villages often entails days of butchering and processing due to the size of the animals. Everyone has little tricks and methods. Moose hunting can yield many hundreds of pounds of meat and you need a good way to deal with a years supply all at once. In the older days much more meat was canned and dried but with modern day freezers that has changed some. Video is mostly trying to show how we do things.

Oh and by the way I never had anyone show me the correct way to handle meat so like I say it's processing meat by the Stan Zuray method
Good upload Stan. I miss Yukon Men it was the best of the all outdoorsy tv show. Most entertaining love watching you and Joe. Sad to see you had to get rid of your dog team. I remember you saying in Yukon men you rather have dogs than snow go cause if a dog is hurt you put in the sled and if the snow go breaks down you’re stranded. Also loved the story of your house!! So for under $200 bucks you bought a house! Of concise I’m sure theee was more expenses but still can’t beat that! I remember when you moved joes house lol anyways thanks for the upload! Stan the Yukon mcguyver!
You might want to consider washing the meat before processing. That way it's clean and cool and results in a better product. We always wash our meat and get great results.
@@leonardcavaretta905 it hasn't killed him yet...
Stan I’ve been really loving your channel, very informative and interesting information. Such a neat way of life you have must be very tough but rewarding. Cool stuff Stan, I may order your book to read. God Bless you and your family Stan
Your so cool. I’m a perfect world I would be doing something like you. I want to move to Alaska one day and do what you did(I read your book) and just go for it. Your such an inspiration
Great to see you Stan. I really miss seeing the people of Tanana. Say HELLO to everyone from those of us in the lower 48. Thanks for showing us how you grind and package the meat. Very interesting. A country boy will survive.

Hey Stan, just wanted to say thank you for the informative video of how you process your Moose and Caribou into burger and not letting anything go to waste. You're a great teacher and Author and I've enjoyed reading your books and watching your videos of you and your family over the years. You really know what you're doing in all aspects of providing for your family and your sled dogs, from hunting, fishing, trapping, processing and smoking. I really enjoy your perpetual motion fish wheel, it's pure brilliance and an amazing tool for catching fish. I'm glad I found this video today as we're in deer season in the lower 48 and our family is looking forward to processing our own take using your techniques so that we're aren't wasting any meat. Keep up the great videos, you're doing an exceptional job Stan!!!
I loved this show, sure miss it

Good morning Stan. Glad to see you back up and running on RUclips. I was born in Dorchester in 1948. Keep up the good work. You have a fascinating life up in Alaska.
Stan, I watch you on the show, YOU are a legand. You get the job done
Get back on the TV stan your the best to watch.
Mr zuray you are legendary !! it sounds like you don't really understand or believe that. try to understand most of the younger generation don't even step onto the grass. I am forty and I am sick that is most of the reason I have the time to watch you or write this. I was in the Navy eleven years I watched Yukon men. trust me. you are from a generation that is much more tough but even for your generation you are made of granite. you are extremely interesting and it doesn't have to be always informational although it is very helpful and I really like how you share about the house that was cool you did the same process to move joes house. that episode you shared your life with us and the value of your assistance with your family and the community is invaluable. like I said you are legendary.
Glad it can mean that much to you. All the best, Stan
Good to see you up and running stan
Thank you Stan and family for sharing your life with us 🙏
Definitely need more videos from the legend
I taught myself how to process deer before the internet was a thing and i do pretty much the same thing as you do. Take care Stan !
There is a bit of work that goes into hunting and processing your own meat., but well worth it. Thank you for the tips. Thank you for posting this video.
Dude didn't know you were on RUclips I remember you for TV definitely one of my favourite characters from the show 👍
Great to hear from you, Stan.
С возвращением Стэн👋
You know Stan I know you voice any where. Seems Yukon shows is no longer available and we loved everyone who lived there. The shows where a weekly special and we enjoyed the dog sledding the fish wheels in the Yukon River and the hunting season. You are an amazing man and we say hello to all fellow town folk. I subscribe to you.
Stan the real life mc giver !
I love the processing of animals, I enjoy doing it and know that when i do it myself i earned everybite of my animal. Thanks for sharing Stan. Was happy to see Joey is providing for all of his family so you dont have to work so hard anymore to do it!

Glad to see your videos again. My notification bell somehow got turned off and I didn't know you were still making videos. I have a lot of catching up to do.
Thanks Stan enjoyed your video very much. Sorry to hear about the poor fish runs and you having to cut back on your dog team and then the gas and oil prices there must be horrendous. Best of luck to you and your family this winter. God Bless
Great video Stan !
I been wrapping burger in plastic wrap for years.
It does work great, but I never thought of the ball method.
You taught this old dog a new trick.
Those dried meat sticks look great.
Sorry to hear about the fishing ban & your dogs, that`s bad ...
Thank You for sharing your video, and letting us hang out.

I just found you on RUclips and I recognized your voice from TV. OMGosh. I’m super excited! I hope that you are still putting out content! One of the reasons that I always loved watching you on tv was because you were so amazingly resourceful and that you could fix anything!!! I never knew the story behind you getting your house. That’s way cool!!! I’m going see what else I can find of your stuff!!!
Good to see you Stan. I do miss the show and seeing you all. Love that grinder set up. Having a meat cutting room is the best.
All the best to you and the family and people of Tanana. Livin life large in the Cariboo British Columbia Canada.
Good to hear the Ba'ston accent again. : ) Hope you upload daily life videos more often. Best!
Thanks Stan great to see a new video
Thank you for sharing this video and your life with us. I'm sorry about the fishing and the dogs. I understand the dogs are a big part of your life style. I hope this situation will get better very soon. Keep up the work you do because it does help us in the lower 48 that pay attention to the little lessons you have to share from your experience. God bless you and your community. "May your table always be full of good food" Sister Marie
Really nice to see you Stan thanks for the video
Stan it's so nice to see you again. Fellow Bostonian, we followed one another on social media a few years back but I got rid of all that noise. Anywho, glad to see you are well and keeping us educated on living the life substantially. Miss the show and was bummed that it wasn't picked up again. Hope the family is all well and healthy. Can't wait to see your next video.
I truly enjoy watching your videos Stan. What I see and hear is lots of work but I don’t sense frustration and feeling rushed. You take things in stride. So much more relaxed the we are here in the city life. Don’t have any of God’s natural beauty or fresh air to breathe. We are living in a fast and crowded atmosphere. I was raised in a small town where my father raised and planted our food source. Oh how I miss it 😢. But soon I will be going back to it God willing. May God continue to bless you and your entire family and town folks. 🙏
Nice to see you back Stan! Blessings 🙏🏻
Thank you sooo much Stan for sharing that.
I used to watch you on Yukon Men, so it’s great to get a catch up via RUclips. 👍🏻🇮🇪
I hope you continue uploading videos Stan the man!!
Real stuff Mr.Stan.appreciate that.
Welcome back Stan! Regards to all the Yukon men gang..nice vlog👍👍
Great to see ya Stan.
Stan, watching you grind that meat, reminds me so much of when my late husband and I were young, he always managed to get a few whitetail deer every season. We'd grind a lot of it. I uderstand adding the fat, as (some might not know) it helps to tenderize older or tougher cuts of meat and enhances the flavor. We never made sausages, but he was a pro at making stuff like hoghead cheese. Bet you never had any of that! LOL Mighty good - and for anyone reading this that has never had it, No, it does not have eyeballs, etc. in it- just the cooked pieces of meat from the head. It kept us from going hungry and many a day our kitchen table was surrounded by neighborhood kids, filling up on Buck stew, etc.Love you guys and TC up there.
Glad see you come back to RUclips been a long time since Virginia like watching it show wish to bring you back to TV
Hi Stan happy to see you say hello to the other guys. We miss seeing the Yukon men hope they will bring it back. Good luck my dear.

Always a pleasure to see your videos Stan.
Thank you Stan, enjoyed that one very much! Best regards to Joey and Katie, too!
Good to see you are still doing video updates. A real shame the fishing ban is still in effect and you had to get rid of your working dogs, hope you're able to get your dog team together again when the fish stocks are back up and you're able to fish again.
Looking forward to more videos from you.

I love that you took a hand grinder and made a power grinder out of it. That goes right up there with the scuba tank sausage stuffer you made.
Pulley came out of a commercial washing machine
@@stanzuray awesome. Making it work. Also, the ground meat packing idea is great. Vacuum sealing is good, but expensive on consumables. I love the ingenuity and willingness to share.
So great and happy you are back!!!
I been watching Yukon Men since it first came out til the last episode 🤍😭 if I could I would really like to fly to Alaska and experience the Alaskan life, that survival life.
Awesome to see you! Miss seeing you on tv! ❤
Hi Stan and family. Greetings from the Highlands of Scotland. Great to see you out and about again doing your thing. Been missing your content!
