// ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this woodworking project, I'm designing and building a custom cabinet for a record player. This project features lots of angled joints and seems complex, but it really isn't, it just has a lot of steps and requires a lot of going back and forth to get the job done.

I'm working on a documentary right now, and I've never heard truer words. "My ideas are more advanced than my abilities". From one artist to another. I feel you. Keep up the good work man.
Thanks AJ :)
I really love the idea of a parallelogram for record storage. Records naturally wanna lean to one side or another anyway. I think it works quite well. Awesome design.
Such amazing work. I have my first table saw coming in at the end of the week and got a handheld router for christmas. I found your channeling looking for something to store my records in. This really blew me away. Your such a great artsits. I hope one day to be as good as you. Also thank you for helping us see we all have fears in doing new things.
The focus on the design and your thought process that goes into your projects makes your channel stand out.
Ein tolles Projekt ! Gefällt mir sehr :-)
Keep up the work Chris!!!!!
Another awesome build and all came together beautifully.
Amazing work Chris! I especially love the hardwood edge that just seems to blend right in with the plywood!
the dynamics of this piece is just stunning!
I come here woodworking and stay for the life lessons. The line about problems and perspecitves was great!
+Gopal Sapparapu I come here for woodworking and mute the irritating hipster commentary.
Thanks Gopal!
Love this man! Really really! That cross style finish! Just wow!
Wow! Really loved this one, the project and the video. Excellent!
Chris thank you for the amazing videos! You are truly an inspiration to keep pushing myself! I trying to catch up to your level as fast as I can, and you have set the bar high.
Nice build and beautifully filmed and edited as always. Thanks.
ALWAYS AMAZED that end narration tied it all together
These videos are amazing. So calm and relaxing. Love this RUclipsr best by a mile.
Thanks Prabjot :)
Just fantastic! Really enjoyed the story as you went, as usual. That is one beautiful cabinet.
Thanks Bruce!
Chris, I finally had time to watch the complete video. I agree with your comment about problems and how to solve them. Thanks for sharing a slice of your time and work with the rest of us!
Hey Matt, thank you for watching, and the support :-)
Thank you, Chris. You are an encouragement and not just in woodworking. Thanks again.
yes! this was what I've been waiting on. Hearing you, Ben and Mark (lol) talk about mistakes and finding solutions for em makes me feel at ease. Idk why I assumed everyone had everything figured out and builds should be super smooth. Def helps my confidence. Keep it going, I look forward to every video you put out!
Thanks Silent! Indeed. The project I'm working on now has (I won't call them mistakes) but some unforseen obstacles. They all do :)
Excellent build Chris!
Excellent work and design. Great job!
i'm a creative/art director of 20 years, just finding my way to woodworking and I'm so excited about learning a new way to make/build beautiful things. i stumbled on your channel and not only do i love your aesthetic and design thinking, i really appreciate your transparency and philosophy about the process. you're a huge inspiration -- thank you!
Thanks Kev...really appreciate the kind words :)
I'm a listener on the podcast and this is the first video of yours I've watched....I'm hooked! Excellent story telling and the cabinet came out great! Nicely done! Subscribed.
Thanks man...glad you found me and are enjoying :)
Always end up smiling at the end, no matter what. Love everything you do! That piece of furniture is beautiful. What finish did you apply? And that record player looks great as well, totally my style.
Thanks Cris. I used General Finishes Arm-R-Seal on this one. The record player is pretty cool. I think I had just googled "minimalist record player" and found this company in Boston. I picked the green b/c I thought it would go nice with any color wood. But yeah, definitely an eye catching device to have :-)
can you give the brand. i want one
It's made by U-Turn
Just beautiful. Beautifully shot, edited and built. Thank you.
I love watching your videos. You are a woodworking poet. A craftsman philosopher.
A lot of the woodworking videos on you tube always come across as problem free efficient and smooth running. We all know in reality when we try to reproduce the projects we see there is a lot of learning that goes along with trying new things and a certain challenges create difficulties. I really appreciate your openness to talk about things like skill limitations and mistakes and aspects that are good enough. I think you have made some incredibly beautiful pieces and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Thanks Bob! Yeah, this project was full of little mistakes. I go into more detail about them on a past episode of our Podcast (Modern Maker Podcast) but, in the end, they were all fine. :-)
Absolutely LOVE your work man.
Absolutely love it!
I've been thinking of building something to sit my record player on top of and house my LPs and when you spoke of this on the podcast I've looking forward to it! You've given me some great ideas and inspiration! Thanks
Nice...if you do it, Tag me in instagram. Always love seeing people's stuff
Looks stunning
That angle set for the cabinet is really cool.
Extremely impressive Chris. We all work through our intimidations in this way. Finding work arounds to compensate for what you don't know is how you get really good in the long run.
Wonderful build and approach to life. Thank you for sharing
GREAT build. Really liked it.
Wow! It looks great!
Beautiful design and build. Very pleasing. Great video also. Thanks
Soooo nice. Very relaxing to watch!
Thanks Derek!
Wow, just wow. What a refreshing, approachable, educational, and thought provoking piece of work (cabinet and video as whole). Beyond just a simple woodworking video. This is the video I needed to see today.
Beautiful design, great build!
Wish he did more videos. So inspiring and satisfying to see such simplistic and interesting designs
Wish I could too JT...maybe someday :)
beautiful as always
Muy buen diseño! Un saludo grande!
Gracias :-)
Nice going! I dig your outlook.
Well, y'know, the thing about the direction of the cabinet is that a right lean is just much more aesthetically pleasing. It may not be as functional in this application, but while a left-leaning cabinet would improve the function, the form would have a much different effect. It's like in film or photography, if you have objects moving across the frame from left to right, it feels very natural, whereas objects moving from right to left create tension, unease, suspense. This is mostly to do with the direction we read our written language, as these "rules" of composition are reversed in regions where they read right to left. But that all said, a right-leaning cabinet definitely elicits a different response from a person versus a left-leaning cabinet, and I feel like the response from a right-leaning cabinet is the one you'd actually want in your house.
Dave...it's funny, somebody else just asked about this. They were wondering if it could have to do with being right/left handed. I had never thought about it, but said this comes more natural to me because of the way we read (as you stated) and I also used side-scrolling video games as an example...with are overwhelmingly designed to move from left to right.
Yeah, exactly, video games is another medium that's heavily left-to-right-oriented, largely because of the reading direction of the regions games were developed in. It's surprising just how much impact that has on a culture.
woodworking plans
Chris Salomone couldn't you just have flipped the piece around which give you the opposite slant, a left lean?
Seriously loving these videos!
Another beautiful build and video. I really like your message about intimidation, and perspective. Its a simple change from 'i can't' to 'how can I' but it is really powerful. Thanks :)
Indeed it is :-)
Chris, thanks for the many Life's Lessons as well as a great build accompanied by a fantastic storytelling experience! Looking forward to seeing your next adventure Buddy! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
Thanks! :-)
Really nice and inspiring, thank you !
You are a true story teller. Beautiful all around; project to vid. nice.
Thanks Link :)
Beautiful piece.
This is super rad. Keep doing what you do.
I waited like 4 weeks to watch this video from when you mentioned it in the podcast, checking in everyday lol, the wait was totally worth it. This piece is beautiful, probably my favorite one of your builds.
Thanks Filipe...that means a lot to be able to meet the hype. Appreciate it :-)
A very good build and an awesome video... Thanks. 👍
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your process.
Thanks Lee :-)
Nice script. Thoughtful. Thank you.
A beautiful piece. Your video is really well crafted too.
Oh my days!what a beautiful design of record player cabinet.Mate, you're so talented.Amazing and stunning works.Well done!Cheers!!
Thanks Mohd...appreciate the kind words
great job along with a great story. thanks for sharing. I reckon you could have stuck with your original plan, just do it, never underestimate yourself.
Thanks Man...I probably could have, but as I worked with this design, I really liked the stacking layers. I'll probably do it more for pieces that definitely don't need it.
Such a beautiful video
Wow, great talent all around!!!
chris I have been watching your videos for a few months now, I am absolutely loving your channel. You are by far my favorite youtuber and so down to earth, inspiring me to build more each time I watch your videos! Your content always sparks new ideas for me to explore in my own woodworking and that I appreciate.
Thanks Brian - appreciate the kind words. Love hearing that kind of stuff from the viewers :-)
Beautiful!!
Beautiful piece Chris.
A refreshing video with less focus on the actual measurements, sizes and so forth. The production quality is exemplary. Thank you! Subscribed.
Thanks Mads...appreciate it!
Ok,I could not handle the tilt to this thing, I'd get seasick just looking at it. But I love your work and I love that you are doing this credenzas. Someone needs to bring them back in to style.
:)
You do some of the best videos on YT. I usually hate it when people blather on & on. You are so thoughtful and precise in your words, that you are a pleasure to watch and hear. This was a tough project, and I wouldn't put this in my house, but it was well done & I thank you for sharing it with me.
Thanks Myck. :-)
your videos are amazing - both the builds and the insightfulness. very appreciative of well thought out, and passionately produced, content.
Thanks John :)
Your work, and the projects by the other gentlemen on the MM podcast, have inspired me to start designing and building my own furniture - slowly phasing out the Ikea, thrift store finds, and hand me downs. One of the firsts will be a console stereo and bar display cabinet. Thank You. (also, you have some fantasic vinyl there)
Nice! that's cool to be a part of that journey :)
beautiful, I haven't see nothing like it!!
Hands down one of the best looking cabinets I have seen. Would love to own this. Brilliant work! 👍
Thanks Ryan!
This is by far my favorite build.
Thanks Tu :-)
i love that cabinet!
been working on something similar for this last year, Big thick lines are so great on the frame! Love that you tried the slanted approach!
:-)
Always beautiful
Liked before watching because I know is going to be a great video, and you didn't disappoint! Love the vids man, keep it up!
Thanks David...appreciate it!

Wonderful video!
My heart rate slows by simply watching your videos and listening to whatever you have to say haha. This is perfect relaxation. Your work is amazing btw.
Thankd Didier...I appreciate it :)
Chris, you're an incredibly talented woodworker, designer and builder. Thanks for doing these videos and sharing your craft.
Appreciate it Tyler :)
Turned out great Chris!
Thanks man!
Another stunning project
On point as usual!
incredible beautiful piece
Great video. Narration has a very “This American Life” vibe to it!
Seriously the build is beautiful, but the story telling is incredible. You have an amazing way with words that truly captivates the audience.
Good work Chris. You are very inspiring.
Thank you kind sir :)
awesome vid , nice project, and well narrated. looking forward to the next one
Thanks Patty...already in the works :-)
Very nice design.

absolutely beautiful work chris!
Thanks Graz!
HEY CHRIS.I AM FROM BRAZIL AND I ALWAYS WATCH YOUR VIDEOS.CONGRATULATIONS!!
Hei Chris,eu sou do Brasil e sempre assisto os seus vídeos.Parabéns!!
I really like your style and your documentation of the buildprocess. There's just one thing where I'd like some more detail; the finish.
Thanks. There's a link to what I use in the description. It's pretty much a simple wipe on. :-)
Awesome dude! I really love those end caps you used to avoid half laps, really smart and nobody would ever know!
...unless of course you broadcast it to the world. ;-P
This is awesome. I have a vaguely similar design for an entertainment center I want to build, and there's quite a few lessons in this project that I can use. Thanks for sharing.
Nice... yeah, I doubt it's a piece that many people will actually build, but hopefully there is something in here to take away either technically or as inspiration/motivation for people :-)
love the way you say the things..
Yo! I love these videos. I don't own any type of anything, like not even a hammer. However, this my new favourite channel. It's so beautiful! Thanks
Thanks Zee...that is awesome. I wish more people in your situation would find the channel. I think lots of them could enjoy it for different reasons :)
Thanks. Very inspiring
You do beautiful work.
Chris solid video and some sage advice. Well done!
Thank you sir :)
