October 2023 Emboss Update (10:11 in the video). The new emboss tool works on more surfaces, but has also impacted how the Emboss tool worked when this tutorial was recorded.
    SOLUTION:
    1. Activate Emboss
    2. Uncheck 'Tangnet Chain' in the Emboss dialog. *** Very important. This must be done ***
    3. Select the 4 sketch profiles (two halves of the circle, two rectangles)
    4. Switch to the 'Faces' selector in the Emboss Dialog
    5. Select the top face of the doorstop (the largest face).
    6. Hold the CMD Key (Mac) or CTRL Key (Windows) to select the two remaining top faces.
    7. Select OK to confirm the Emboss.
If this helped you, kindly like this comment to help others see it!

If anybody on windows is having issues at the 10 minute mark with the embossing, select the the 4 areas then when you get to faces deselect the tangent chain then select faces and hold CRTL when selecting the top 3 faces and you’ll be able to select them individually giving you the result you need. This is what I did and it worked perfect.

Hey! For anyone still having problems with the embossing of the lines, I figured out a workaround: Instead of doing a 2 point circle I just created a 3 point arc at the top of the rectangle, then after selecting it in the emboss tool it worked perfectly. I don't know why, but it was having trouble with the 2 halves of the circle that you needed to select.

You know at 11:11 you start to add a fillet to all those edges. This is sort of tedious given it's 60 edges!
I instead went back and edited original feature which saved me from clicking all of those lines to fillet them. In other words, I fillet THEN R Patterned mine to the same result. I bring this up not as a critique but more as a compliment to the series. I'm starting to learn faster ways to do things thanks to the videos you've made.

I am so sorry Kevin I know see this is a new series 30 days and this is day 8. I was not following it correctly. Now I know to go back and listen to #1 and catch up. In this video you reinforce all the common sense rules and guidelines to good sketch development. Which I still fail to apply. Every one of my parts is a complete mess. Yesterday to complete a part for a customer I was sketching, deleting, pressing and extruding all over the part to get the geometry where i wanted it. its terrible. Took me days and when done I nothing I can reuse for the next one. I must learn these things and then apply the rigor to use them. I have so much work to complete in 2023 I have to get better. In these two minutes i realized what I was missing and what i need to do. I will be back. Thank You So Much for such a great course. Dennis aka Frankentrain Laboratories.

  • @seekr87

    Two things I'm wondering -
    1) When we offset the surface to bridge the gap at 8:30 we create overlapping geometry. Could this create issues if, for example, we want to 3D print this without unifying the bodies?
    2) I'd think it's more efficient to apply the fillets to the single ridge then use rectangular pattern instead of selecting all edges on all ridges after rectangular pattern. Is this not the case?
    Thanks and great tutorial series!

At 6:57, you delete a coincident constraint. It took me some time to figure out that you were selecting the constraint icon and deleting it with the delete. I could be wrong, but I don't think that was introduced in the series before now, and explaining that would have been helpful.
My son's girlfriend's father recently gave us a non-functioning 3D printer which had several small issues. My son and I worked on it on and off for two days, and got it working. I needed to learn some modelling tool and wanted to learn Fusion 360, but it is daunting to look at. I came across this series and started it, and it is absolutely fantastic. Within the first three days or so, I think I knew 90% of what I needed to start on the designs that I had my head. Thank you.

Question. With the free/personal use version. Am I correct in the assumption that I can just toggle which documents in my list of 10 are editable at any one time? Is it possible to use the free version for a very small business/side hustle? I don't make enough money from my 3D prints currently to warrant paying for this subscription...

    • @ELKvlt
      @ELKvlt Год назад +1

Yes you can toggle which documents are editable at any time. Open the folder containing the desired docs and under each you should see a drop down "Editable" with a blue icon. Click and switch any doc to "Read only".
It takes a while minute or so for the files to cloud sync so they may (or may not) disappear, but they will reappear in the folder and you can toggle editability again. You can toggle and view these files in app or browser.
As for commercial use, I believe if you intend to make money from products you design in fusion they want you to purchase a license. However, I have no idea if there is legal ramification for not doing so. Sorry.

The main difference (which can be frustrating if you're just getting started with Fusion 360) is that the old UI has the Sketch tools under a 'Create' menu, instead of the Sketch tab being contextual. Otherwise, majority of features and concepts are the same. There are a few things that are no longer the best approach due to new feature releases - such as those that can now be done faster with the Emboss tool.

Faceted will result in a solid body, but it will have all of the mesh triangles (facets). This means you won't have perfectly planar or smooth surfaces to modify. Prismatic is only available on the other license types and it will attempt to rebuild the model with Fusion's native technology, resulting in a 'clean' solid body. This is often desired as it makes it really quick and easy to make modifications.

I'm having trouble with this one. At "5:40" when placing the horizontal line, a perpendicular constraint was automatically placed with the vertical line. I figured out how to turn that off, so now I can place the coincident constraint with the angled line. When I do that though, the angled line remains blue, and doesn't fully define the sketch. I changed the radius, shortened the length of the emboss to 88mm, and kept getting the same issue. It was only after reading all these comments that I tried Widener's 87mm and it worked fine. The chamfer now has more empty space than emboss, there was plenty of room for the 90, but whatever. I'm glad it worked now, but I still want to know why the 90mm wasn't working when everything else was spot on....hmmm...Great series though! Thanks a lot Kev!

There’s so many arbitrary things that are done and yet I don’t understand.
Why do we have to project instead of make just a sketch at the bottom?
Why do we have to have to see you delete the little “T” symbol in the corner of the line and the bottom of the stopper without explanation before you make a horizontal constraint.
How come when I follow along and use coincident tool to connect the hypotenuse line to the perpendicular line on the sketch points does it make both lines black for you but for me it’s one block and one blue. Despite following along exactly do these sort of things just not work

I've tried this one 3-4 times now, completely starting from scratch every time. No matter what I do, the emboss line either refuses to generate or it isn't straight, it winds its way down the face, deviating from side to side by a couple millimeters. Hi Brend. Thanks for your kind words!
There has been an update to the Emboss command, which I've noted in the pinned comment. I'll share that here as well for your convenience.
* Very important. This must be done *

One question: how do I get the model lines to show up (the black lines along edges and curves)? To make your flange and the rest the same 3D body, you can edit that Extrude (used for the flange creation) and make sure the 'Operation' is set to Join. It may have defaulted to 'New Body' for some reason.
For the 'black lines' it's a visual style setting. Head to the bottom of your Fusion, select the Display Settings (computer icon) > Visual Style > select "Shaded with Visible Edges Only" (that should be the default setting if you ever restore your defaults).
