31:43 Josh missed the mark by not using "The Sound of Silence", which became a meme whenever something happens to Whincup in the Bathurst 1000
It's like the old saying,"If you want to finish first, first you have to finish."
And "coming second, you're the first of the losers"
Volvo in V8 Supercars was a story in itself.
I remember when scotty drove it over the Sydney harbour bridge
Cool reaction - Josh Revell isn't my favourite but it's a good summary. If you've got 8 hours to spare it's well worth watching the whole race. Best Bathurst I can remember!
Ironically, that's the first race that introduced me to supercars, I watched it Live from the beginning in 2014 on Brazil 🇧🇷 it was so rare the Supercars came on TV, but when it did came was very and far between but always watched, unfortunately I was never able to follow one full season of it, only few races here and there to do accessibility to the category from here.
Still I remember the feeling I got when watched the race
Erhmmmm... Make sure to save some time for the end of qual 2, which gets hectic, or at the very least, save time for the shootout.
2014 was peak supercars! 5 manufacturers, it was absolutely hectic!
I'm hella enjoying all the NASCAR fans getting into V8 Supercars. It's great to see all the cross-pollination between fan bases.
Fun fact: SVG's father has the nickname 'Cheeseburger'
Have no idea how it properly came about, but it feels fitting
Australian Supercars is for me the best racing series in the world and Bathurst 1000 is my favourite event. If only I could stay awake to catch the races 🤧🤧
im not into motor racing but that guy told the shit out of that story. Very captivating.
The Nissan that Finished 2nd Was My Mate Taz he Retired fRom racing After this 2nd Place at Bathurst. He Now Works in Construction !
I will never forget watching this race back in 2014. I was one of thousands of ford lovers yelling out “cough ya bastard!!!”
The most intresting wildlife at bathurst was the echidna.
How no one smoked that little guy is amazing. Lol
I alway take a weeks leave over Bathurst weekend as coverage is over four days. I have my pilgrimage to motorsport's Holy Land twice.
25:03 they Call Russel Ingall "The enforcer" for a reason.
21:10 I believe this was down to the safety car periods that allow lapped cars to get their laps back (usually taking place when it's near the end of the safety car period where they let the lapped car go past the safety car and speed away before the race restarts), which is different to NASCAR where only the leading lapped car gets the lucky dog.
This is an excellent video, and I'm glad you reacted to it. Like many, I was watching as it unravelled. However, with all the incredible detail and all of the puns, they failed to break down what actually happened on that last lap, even corner by corner. WTF??? Wincup ran out of fuel on, effectively, the third last corner. Mostert would later say he was thinking or saying, cough you bastard, and it did finally on Forest Elbow, the entry to Conrod Straight. Well at least, that's my recollection.
Maybe it could have been an even crazier race had Wincup made it down the straight, leaving it down to The Chase and beyond.
Bathurst IS the greatest race of all time and 2014 the very best. I remember watching it in real time and was cheering like mad for Mostert.
Would Larry Perkins agree? I'm unsure of my history, I'm getting on a bit. But didn't he win a last place to first place race in the early 90's?
Back in the day, V8 Supercars was exclusively Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons, which made for pretty healthy rivalries amongst the bogan community. Some of us were so devout to the blood of the sport that we stopped watching when they introduced the euro models again…. Cough. But these names are staples. Anyone who ever enjoyed Aussie motor sport know Lowndes, Whincup, Ingall, winterbottom, but my favourite by far was Jason Bargwanna. He was an independent driver who didn’t look like he should have been on a race track under going the conditions these guys go through. He was a funny dude and almost always seemed to be able to finish in the top 10. What an absolute legend
Kangaroos are actually annoying in Australia, if you're driving outside of the city, you have to keep an eye out for them because they will jump in front of your car.
They actually taste pretty damn good though. Kinda like steak.
Emus are worse, we were driving through central Queensland and they literally sped up so they could run in front of our car!
Twitter can't even agree that the earth is oblong shaped.
Usually they wouldn't be able to do anything to the cars, but since it was the track that destroyed so many cars, so they let them patch them up a bit. If there wasn't so much prior carnage, and say maybe just one car destroyed, they wouldn't have let them fix the cars, but it would be unfair to take 10 cars out at the blame of the category not ensuring the track conditions were safe.
Any mass manufacturer can join.
And at the end of the day, Whincup last by 1 Litre or under a quart of a gallon of fuel, about the same amount that would be sitting in the swirl pot, fuel pump and fuel lines, or about the same volume of fuel that would not have been in the engineers calculations, but was in the back of Whincup's mind. You would be mad not to go for it.
some people irl cannot undertstand that earth is not flat and planes dont make chemtrails.. LOL world has gone mad
Josh Revell is my go to guy for racing ❤ he has the perfect blend of facts, passion and humour, great vid guys 👍
Every Bathurst is a story in it's self. I have watched every year since 1977. Carton of beer, a good supply of cut sandwich's or more recently, some Great Low n Slow BBQ, a TV and mates. Best weekend of the year. Also note, best results for a car manufacturer was in 1966 with 9 of the top ten being a Mini Cooper S. Yes, that was against V8's and 6's
I would love for you guys to react to New Zealand Superstocks. All I can say is they will blow both of your brains.
Even if the race was abandoned, the bogans would just keep drinking.
And mozzie only led for about 4 corners and the entire straight. That was pretty good.
I've got 2 races which I think are the best the 1992 senior TT between Steve hislop and Carl fogarty. And the 2004 supersport race at donington round 13 when Craig jones won on a underpowered triumph I was at that race
I was at this race myself. It was insane!
Cannot argues that this is one of the greatest races of all time!
Love ,love, love Bathurst and miss Shane Van Gisbergen on our tracks. If you all struggle with his name, we just call him The Giz, SVG or Gizzy ( that’s Gizzy not Jizzy in case you can’t grasp that Aussie accent.) Anyway keep watching, never a dull moment in V8 Supercars here in Oz.
The 1964 F1 finale at Mexico saw the championship change 6 times between 3 drivers during the race. 3 of those times were between the 3 drivers on the last lap.
For all the things happening with the cars, the amazing thing is they relaid part of the road surface as well, and that fed in to cars getting back into contention. Talk about a race that had everything.
For many years, I think ‘90s to early 2010s, it was Ford Falcon vs Holden Commodore, until both Ford & Holden announced that they were no longer manufacturing in Australia; at this point, it was opened up for other manufacturers
No track will ever be as exciting as bathurst races that just go round and round on a circular track .sure if your brought up on that racing thats ok of course but get hold of a video of gods gift to realy telented drivers
Daniel...you are a wise man (and very astute). Fix the cars and give the fans good racing.
We do like our beer in Australia
This guy explains it soo well.
Oh Wow!
"'UNPLUG & DO SOMETHING LEGENDARY" ..
A great quote
A quote for the ages
Nice job ....legendary
Thanks.
I'm loving the Choomah scream at 3:23

Hope u guys watch Bathurst this year!! It’s the best racing event in the world honestly speaking (Biases intensifies)
i remember watching this whole race live with my dad... it was sooooo freakin intense! especially for us as Nissan fans with that car eating the fence twice and still coming second! Man it was a good race! I stopped reguarly watching when the limited it to just Holden and Ford though... heck, if you can find it, in 1966 a Mini Cooper S won the damn race!
I think josh makes excellent videos, great job giving him a go.
They were damn competitive that day, they were just competing with the mountain.
If SVG didn't stall then the starter motor never would have been an issue.
it was some SBR karma
The reason for "stalling" was they were running a qualifying engine map mode. Over fueling caused the engine to flood and hydro lock the engine when it was idling in the pitstop. Hence why they thought the starter was poked. It couldn't turn over a hydro locked engine.
Kangaroos, on the wrong jump across a road, land in your car through the windscreen. THEN the get passed off, and kick you to death. I've done towing work in country towns. BUT... WOMBATS... if run over one... they are short and built like 3 Staffies in a single unit... They will destroy sumps, gearboxes, tailshafts, exhausts, and even steering and suspension components.
It's like running over a few bags of old cement on the road.
AND... the Drop Bears.... lol.
Seriously, wombats are mini tanks.
My Captiva nearly had its face ripped off when I hit a roo at 100km/h just before Christmas. I saw the headlight cluster (on for about a third of a second; I saw it go out as the lead yanked out) go up and over the windscreen and car. Turned the car around and there was no carcass! Bloody thing must have lived!
To answer your question about which manufacturers compete: it's changed a bunch over the years. Right now it's only Chevy camaros and Ford mustangs. Before that they had it opened up to a few more like his and Volvo. Arguably the most loved version was back when it was only Aussie cars, the commodore and the falcon. Before then it was called the atcc (Australian touring car championship) and was open to many manufacturers. Some of the most famous ones being ones like the early Nissan skylines, or even a Ford cosworth.
I loved the race when it was just Ford v Holden v8's. They were first called touring cars. There were different categories all running together so you had little minis running in the same race as a massive v8 Ford Falcon. It was fun to watch, annoying for the drivers. World Touring car rules saw bigger engines phased out and crowds were waning so they formed v8 supercars, Ford v Holden. It was a big hit. Eventually, to be more inclusive and cost effective they designed one car that all should drive and badged differently. They included other makes and that killed it for me. I don't follow anymore but I love watching the old races.
GREAT VIDEO👍🏼
Glad you got round to this one. The next one from this channel, the tomoltous tale of mahaveer ranganathan he's a driver who is trying to get into f1 but is a bit of a cult hero for being so incredibly useless bless him. Think you'll get a kick out of it.
There's also a channel called fpwill who does race rundowns of indycar and they're absolutely hilarious.
Well said Dan re fixing stuff during red flag conditions. Go for it! and boy, didn't they! Cheers from Sydney, AU.
Enjoyed that guy's well done 👍
4 key points to reply to your video
1. Jamie Whincup is actually whingecup
2. These where the days were we had multiple manufacturers . In todays series is know as V8 sillycars & we only have 2 manufacturers now Camaro and Mustang
3. Race is 6 hrs long so the ones on the mountain top drinking have time to sleep it off and still being able to wake up and not miss the end of the race 😜
And key number 4.
Whingecup had a fan on conrod straight with a Jerry can or in American terms with gasoline waiting for him to run out of fuel the next year & it did happen again.
We.also have Ute and truck racing
This race is like the son of NASCAR
I'm confused on what this means
@@yehanfonseka6412The Bathurst 1000 is basically the Aussie version of the Daytona 500 or the Indy 500.
@yxeaviationphotog but they are nothing alike, race wise. They're the same, but format wise, they're nothing alike
@@yehanfonseka6412 I'm talking more along the lines of stature and hype, not format.
@yxeaviationphotog That's what i tried to say when I said "race wise" because they brought the same type of hype
you have to listen to the commentary some of the best ever
It's a 621 mile race, plenty of time to fix shit 😆
it originally FORD v HOLDEN both Australian made cars....but since we no longer have either made here anymore, they added all the other makes years ago. it was better when it was ford v holden tho
It was convenient of Lowndes in the second red bull Holden to take out the Pepsi Max ford so the better red bull car of Whincup wins
Ok this comantary is so Aussie and funny 😅
Look up Jimmy Richards driving BMW's at Bathurst 1985 1986 1987
It used to be just Ford and Holden, it was called V8 supercars.
Then they started getting other makes and changed the name to supercars , as they allowed cars that are not factory available with a V8
Although the race car was V8
There is more to it but I'm typing on a phone
It used to be ford v Holden (falcon v commodore the best driver ever was Peter brock
As a serial Chevy owner, all I have to say is "anything but a Ford" to win.
As a serial Holden owner (same same), you won't be impressed by the outcome...

They had to do repairs on the track not in the pits

Try finding some early ones from the 1970s
Bathurst have been since 1968
Fark beer. Bunderberg Rum Brother 🎉❤
I was watching this and you were up then down then OH MY GOD!!!!! then down again, it was a coin toss! If I remember right, the betting on the race was wild and who ever had placed one on the guys who finally won, went home with a ton of cash. Oy yeah, here we can LEGALLY bet on this type of stuff...and you don't get taxed on it!
And I THOUGHT THE SAFETY CAR WON.

Now that GM has killed off the Holden Commodore & to a lesser extent Ford Australasia ceased production of the Falcon many years ago, Last season (2023) was the beginning of the "Gen 3" V8 Supercars so It is now only 2 manufacturers in the V8 supercars season... each team generally consists of 2 cars but some have off shoot teams meaning they have more cars (and more skin in the game as they say) and a team can choose from and run either a Chevrolet Camaro or a Ford Mustang but whichever manufacturer they choose all cars in the team must be that manufacturer (meaning no running one from each camp)
the teams are provided with the engines by Supercars management and both the Ford & Chevrolet power plants have been built and painstakingly tuned to produce the exact same horsepower and similar power curves, or so the claim from Supercars head office goes (but the Chevrolet started the season last year with a distinct power advantage) the Mustangs are running a 5.4 litre Coyote engine and the Camaros are running a 5.7 litre LT, small block based, pushrod engine that has been evolving since the 1990's............. No longer is it a race of Ford v Holden as the race has been for decades (even whilst other manufacturers dipped their toes in & out of the competition)
At least SVG sent the Holden Commodore off in style at it's last Bathurst 1000 (and coincidentally the Supercars championship) in 2022 by winning. A very fitting goodbye for arguably the greatest 'family' sedan (or saloon depending on where you are from) with undoubtedly the best name....... the COMMODORE!!
You can have a 20 cent part brake and loose the race
NO... Cars can be repaired under any circumstance unless the race director says it's an illegal modification that gives the drivers/cars an advantage.
Red flags usually take place during a crash that blocks traffic flow.
Even then they can repair cars.
Not 100% but I think the only thing they can't do, is refuel the car.
Also no, not any manufacturer. The car to be entered has to be in full sales production.
Many manufacturers have teied in the sport, but they always dropped out.
It was always only Holden and Ford basically.
Now Ford and Chev.
Also, Holden was GM.
It was a direct sub of GM not any other offshoot.
They drive Chevs now, because that was basically the only alternative.
And all cars must fit 100% into the predefined car silhouettes.
And 95% of parts are control parts.
Engines and oower levels are strictly monitored.
you should definitely react to his other video called "The Worst Formula 1 Race of All Time" its just like this but about the worst race and it really was the worst
Australians know how to put on an exciting race😊
Mt Panorama is a crazy bad racetrack... its too steep, boxed in with concrete, has a corner hidden under a ridgeline (skyline) leading to an engine busting downhill straight... its passing places are just dangerous and the local wildlife/livestock always seem to find a way onto it....and it makes for insanely good racing.
under red flag
you can not do parts change but you can do adjustments and tap up loose shit
street legal
I've watched you guys for a while, the not so keen motor sport Daniel, seems to be falling for the smell of race fuel 🧐
Yes Whincup is a great name except for when you don,t listen to messages being given over the radio to conserve fuel and you run the car out of fuel like a moron.
Next don't forget to react Indonesia MAKES US FEEL ALIVE 1, 7 million viewers
Why do Americans build there race tracks in a safe round circle most of the times so boring watching cars just going around and around thats just boring
In terms of Red Flag rules, I only know NASCAR being one of the series that do not allow touching/repairing the car. F1 and Supercars you can repair and even change tires under red flag conditions.
I was there. Most insane day I've ever experienced. Bunch of local council workers fixing the track with 130 000 people on track and millions on TV was hilarious because all we had to do was drink in the meantime.
Aussie IndyCar driver Will Power has a great name too. His brother is a comedian.
V8 Supercars was open to manufacturers but they had to meet strict rules and manufacturers that didnt have a current production car they could modify to make into a race car for this just wouldnt do it because it was too costly. Mercedes (under the name Erebus, its a long story), Volvo and Nissan were competing for a few year stint but then found it too costly. Back when it was proper touring cars there were a bunch of manufacturers, but as they became more race car and less production car that can be used as a race car many left the competition, leaving it as Ford and Holden for a long while. Currently its Ford and Chevy as Holden doesnt exist anymore (GM decided to shut it down in 2018) and Ford only exist in Mustangs, making the current line up 0% Australian much to the ire of Australians. This race was during that semi recent stint where a bunch of manufacturers decided to give it a shot when V8 Supercars outright told manufactueres they are free to join so long as they meet certain specifications. The Ford and Holden cars were loosely based off of road going production cars so it was "cheap" comparitevely speaking to modify to make it into a race car. The other manufacturers didnt really have a suitable platform for that given the specifications, so they had to extensively modify the closest match they had for their road going cars, but the work was considerably more expensive than what Ford and Holden had to do given that Ford and Holden always had these racing cars in mind. Given that the other manufactuers had little market share in the country and it was more expensive to make/run these cars, they pulled out for cost reasons
I remember seeing this race live and it was a rollercoaster of emotions
remember the days mini's competed with the big boys, that was a crazy thing to watch, really bad crashes though
@@siryogiwan I hate to make you feel old...but I am almost certain I wasn't alive for that era
@@petrolhead0289 nah, I am old, you're all good lol
When you were talking about when the sport became Ford and Holden only for a while, I think it was also a case of fans not wanting to see another brand in the series.
Then as for the other manufacturers joining in but not having a suitable platform, I thought CotF rules (specially that the race car chassis design was supposed to be similar regardless of model) was there to accommodate the new manufacturers. But in the end, the sport was still effectively a Holden vs Ford affair, making the other manufacturers an afterthought, with Mercedes and Nissan each scoring 1 win every other year, while the Volvo was mostly down to McLaughlin. The brands left for various reasons: Mercedes was never there to begin with so Erebus decided to pull the plug and run Holdens instead, Volvo was changing its image as a brand, and Nissan putting more focus towards Formula E (though there were suggestions that they were waiting for Supercars to change the regulations to be able to allow body types beyond sedans so they would be able to run the GT-R, but took too long to implement so they decided to leave).
@@siryogiwan A Mini Cooper S actually WON Bathurst in 1966 !!
Josh Revell should have 8 figure subs, but somehow he has only low figure 6's. It's a great shame. Hes a brilliant script writer and storyteller.
That is why it's called THE GREAT RACE!!!
13:05 the Cassowary is even scarier then a Roo or an Emu🤣
You guys spoke about SVG's Chicago race here. Not sure if you've seen it, but this guy also has a video on that race, if interested
Australia has plenty of wild Deer here too. Because Australia has such a perfect climate for them, they are breeding like Rabbits.Apparently on last count, yes, they do count them here, there were over 6 Million. Venison is becoming a very popular meat here.

You should watch Mark Larkham describes the mount panorama Bathurst race track 2017. Mark is retired racing driver. Watch it! Worth while!😊
Being able to repair a car under a red flag is quite normal for many categories / formulas such as F1. It might be an FIA thing, not sure.
Imagine pushing a car for 1000km, teammate crashed it, a lap down and you make this move on the last lap, you could cry at this. Cars with engines are more than just metal. :') BTW Dan and Spencer, thank you for showing appreciation for Van Gissy and Scott McLaughlin.
Gone are the days when you didn’t have the safety car ruining the race and you only used local yellow flags until the track was cleared.
That was when you had drivers like Peter “Perfect” Brock who was able to win the race by 6 laps.
It’s not called an endurance race for nothing, as it is the endurance of the car parts as well as the driver’s.
Winterbottom's nickname - Frosty, of course...
17:44 F1, WEC, Supercars all allow some amount of repairs during red flags.....I'm surprised NASCAR doesn't. Like what if a driver has a punctured tire, do they have to drive the restart lap on a damaged tire at slow speed while others are flying past at warp speed until they reach the pits? That doesn't make much sense, it seems unsafe and also might ruin the show.
apart from AFL, the greatest sport day in AUS
Toyota Supra are joining Super Cars next year.
