Just bought my first ZRX1200R! Cant wait to get into this bike. Your vids are very helpful and I will be ordering parts from you very soon. Keep the How To Videos coming and show case your parts. Orlando, FL
Received my chain tensioner a few days ago and using this video, installed it very easily......thanks. The kit still only has one "E" clip, so (and don't laugh) what I did to make absolutely sure I didn't lose it when clipping it on, was to stand in my shower cubicle with door shut and a cloth over the drain hole.....in the end I got it on first go.
@@JamesComptonCustoms I see it just shipped. Thank you! I bought my ZRX in 2005 and LOVE it. Just bought a KTM 1290 SA, and still caught myself riding the zrx more!)
On my 2005 ZRX1200R that I just purchased I'd heard about this problem with the motor. I took off my oil access plug and saw little nicks on my basket. So I wanted to jump on this right away. This was a low mileage bike and still had plenty of nicks on the basket. Don't know if this happens from new or starts to fail after use. I was ready to order from your sight and notice you guys sell on Ebay. This was great so I did that. I like the safety of ordering off ebay. I'm just waiting for delivery to my location in Taiwan. Thanks.
Question: Is the slipper clutch mod best for street or Track? Plus the better springs defeat the slipper function I heard. I already bought these, Tamer, Clutch Plate and newer springs and the ZX11 does not have that function but I was going to change it to a slipper but then thought.... What's the trade off? Kinda confused James. Was going to start this this weekend then saw you did that mod on the ZRX. I would rather delay the install if the Slipper Mod would be better for street riding, even street fighting, if ya get my drift. Should I call you or reply here?
@@JamesComptonCustoms I understand James. We all do. It's called Life and Keeping the business afloat. I decided to abandon the slipper clutch idea. Read up on it more and seeing as I never really had an issue I'll just keep what I got and install your parts and be Happy :D about it.
Would this cause a rattle in engine at idle? But seems its coming from lower left side of motor, gets a little worse whe taking off and lettung the clutch out. I will still be installing one,not many but small knicks in clutch basket cover. Do you sell ignition advancers? Didnt see on web site but figured id ask. Thanks Rich Keeping the rubber side down
My chain tensioner just broke a week ago, and the plunger shaft lost a piece of 6 or 7 mm long (that I haven't found anywhere yet...), would this mod work still ok with my tensioner?. Thank you.
You mentioned the concours slipper clutch mod and I would be most interested to know what YOU use for the ZRX's. I have a ZX11 which uses possibly the same parts and am curious whether or not i need to do this. Mine is a hyper sport but I rarely take it to the track. Thanks James.
@@JamesComptonCustoms That's cool. Was sort of interested in the slide carb mod for the ZX11. These bikes have a lot of parts in common, cause, well it saves Kawi money to use what they got.
Hi, nice little part. I was checking but just to be sure, can you confirm (or not) that it would fit the tensioner on a ZX10 b (part number is slightly different 39170-1055. It looks like only a bolt differs though)? thanks
James wondering what the oem tensioner expected life span of tension on the chain . Figuring the chain would be due for replacement at some point in its life . Why I’m asking noticed adjustment is note needed on your mod. But other mod Would need adjustment leading to chasing stretching in my eyes if tension is to tight . Just wondering your thoughts . Thank you
I have to say I have followed your shop since the Jordan Team days and Bike Build Off. Your billet parts and work with the ZRX platform has me interested in purchasing one to build. I have seen a few of the original models around my area for decent prices, are these built as easily as the more recent models?
@@JamesComptonCustoms thank you for quick reply, :-) will be ordering one of these kits very soon. Never even knew about this potential problem on my bike until a few days ago at a biker cafe I go to. Was made aware of it by a fellow ZZR1100 owner, he pointed me in your companies direction. Thanks, Vinny. :-)
@@JamesComptonCustoms it would be great if you could make pressure plates for the zx11 too.... I have a turbo with lockup, and nice to have a billet plate
That is a beautiful tensioner modification. Would this be suitable for an 88' ZX10 Tomcat? It looks the same. Also, would you know if ZRX or ZZ-R headers would fit the ZX10? I'll definitely be ordering a tensioner as soon as I'm ready.
I've never installed one on that bike so I can't guarantee it will fit, but it does fit a number of Kawasaki's. Not sure on the headers either as I haven't had a ZX10 in the shop.
@@JamesComptonCustoms Thanks James, I've had a quick look on some forums and it is the same tensioner set up. I'll be ordering when the bikes nearing completion. Jim
Great talking to you, Mr. Compton. Thanks again for granting me all that time and wisdom!
James... Just received my starter chain tensioner for the 1100 ZRX. Thank you for a quality part.
Fuck yea we love the zrx keep these coming your the god father of modding these bikes !
Interesting. I didnt know these were available. I made two of my own out of steel for my two zx11s.

Have you thought about building a few of those engine stands for sale?
We’ve been asked several times but it would be a pretty expensive stand and we are usually swamped with bike builds.

so why not use a Circlip instead?

I would recommend doing this mod for any Kawasaki that uses this style tensioner. We use ZG1000 parts in some of our own in house builds.

We find it varies from bike to bike. It’s more of a safeguard really.
If you start seeing nicks on your pressure plate looking through your oil fill cap opening I’d consider replacing it.
Does the clutch pressure plate fit the ZZR1200?
No it does not.

We use the ZRX1100 from 1999-2000 and the ZRX1200 from 2001-2005.
