    You really get 'em in and back out Joe. How many machines have you repaired since beginning your business? Hey, if you ever go camping or exploring places off-road, it'd be cool to bring some machines and record your trip. Get some time on your machines and have some fun. The videos would be fun to watch. Been unable to do this myself for a while, but I'm just about ready to do some off-roading this year. I want to explore some old and abandoned mining towns by bike or quad. Watching you crank so many sad machines out with new life in 'em is increasing my desire to prepare my son's and my bikes for a long memorable 2 wheeled adventure. Keep up the good work Joe. :)

    • @snapfish89
      @snapfish89 2 года назад +2

      Correct! Another really common issue is bad valve seals. Oil enters the intake and exhaust ports, causing it to burn oil and smoke. While this is a easy fix, some will blame the seals although it is the rings going bad!.

    For those watching who are new to this stuff do yourselves a favor and grab a can of penetrating oil when you run into a bolt that's stubborn as hell like the timing cover in this video. He got it off but could have been a major pain in the ass had the bolt sheared. I've had good luck with liquid wrench and it's affordable. Another tip is to use a T handle whenever possible on one, it gives you better torque but most importantly it's easier to keep balanced pressure. I also will hit em with an automatic punch sometimes to send vibrations solely through the bolt.
    Oil, heat, vibration, and patience are key

    I bought the same year and model a few years ago. Had to replace the clutches, tires, cv boots, and do a valve adjustment. I wired a piece of metal screen around the intake to keep mice out of the air filter and added an aftermarket fuel filter but it's time to check out the carb. This year I put an elbow on the tailpipe pointed down because I haul a trailer with it sometimes with a passenger - just keeps the exhaust out of their face.

    Every carburated Yamaha starts the same. Full choke, sounds like the piston wants out. You try to find the mid-choke. Careful as you try, it still goes no choke, but hey! It's idling OK. Start the countdown 1 puff then two. Your hands have been tied since it fooled you into a fake idle. Touch the throttle, dies. Pull the choke, dies. Always the same. LOL.
    Best trick i've found is when I'm taking it off full choke is to keep the revs up, then rev up to about 1800, drop, do it again. Work everytime, no. Better than no times. They have issues with restarting, I give it a taste of gas as you kill it. Then some throttle on start.
    Before I'm labeled a heritic by the never rev a cold engine, sorry, workd 4 me. ✌️ out

    Have you ever come across a Grizzly 660?? I'm wondering about the chain that is in the area of the water pump. I believe its the oil pump chain. It seems that it's just laying on the bottom of the engine..yeah that WD-40 works good. Have you ever tried to heat the plastics up to bring a deeper color back into life? I did that to a Yamaha Bruin. The blue color was faded so bad, I read that you can actually heat the plastics up. Turned out pretty good.

    parts are hard to find these days, its a smoker, I would suggest replacing the rings (File fit em if you can) and run hone thru the sleeve, and since you gotta remove the head, you might as well check for valve wobble ,if not bad, just hand lap the valves and seats, and replace the valve seals, oil over heating is a big issue, any time you have a factory oil cooler, a bigger one is better unless you live in Alaska. On the other hand you dont know what your gonna need till you take the motor apart, new timing chain , piston, sleeve what ever its your wallet

    From the looks of it. That may be the original oil. Thats probably why it smokes so bad it has thin out that old oil and its burning it off. Smh. I'd try a oil change first and ride it some to make sure before buying parts just to see if it clears out after the oil change. Some people just don't do maintenance like they should and wonder why something goes wrong .

    Do you wait to clean them until you’re sure it’s going to come back? I’m like clean the big before you work on it!!! But it makes sense if that’s the thought on it. Great content and reminds me a bit of Musty1 Channel. Thanks man 😎🇺🇸

    30:35. Look.. I'm pretty hard on my machines, just the way it goes.. but one thing I do NOT do is put them away dirty. Even if it's a crappy day and full of mud, I ride under the little carport thing I have and hit them with the pressure washer. I can't STAND seeing something packed full of junk like that.. no WAY i'd take that motor apart before cleaning it down. I know Mustie likes to keep thinks the way they were when he gets them if they're (usually they are) broken so he can see witness marks like on tractors and the like, where things were for lining them up and all, but man I can't STAND dirty like that!! Nice work though
