- Harsh Patel showed up on move-in day at his Kitchener, Ont. apartment to find more than a dozen strangers trying to do the same.
Patel, an international student at Conestoga College, said he was shocked and confused when he found out the unit wasn’t really available for rent.

Why did he say he came here for a better life but he’s an international student. Didn’t he come here to study? I’ve thought about going to another country to study medicine but I have no intentions of staying there for a better life. He didn’t say a single thing about having to go to school with no where to live. He didn’t mention a single thing about studying and school. Just that he came here for a better life. If life was so hard back where he’s from , how did he afford international student tuition which is in the 10s of thousands per semester?

Doug Ford and Stephen Lecce put a freeze on college tuition and told the colleges to sell student visas to foreigners to make up the difference. So rental costs may be up, but tuition is frozen. That was a policy decision by the provincial government. If you don’t like it, tell Doug Ford to fix it.

@@Roadkil8999 I get that as long as their visas are still valid they will still be here, but supposedly they were protesting back in June because their visas were about to expire and they wanted to force the government to extend them and allowed them to stay and apply for a PR. Supposedly the government didn’t give in and stated that once their visas expire they would have to go back to their country. So… I just wonder, what are they still doing here ?

You can't get Indian stink out. My neighbor had to remove all carpets, redo flooring, replace fridge and oven, and repaint the walls.
If you rent to Indians, you gotta charge an additional fee to do a complete renovation as those things smell horrible and you can't remove their stink easily.

As FRENCH, I think it is more an issue with policies set by both governments!!! You know you bring students IN and why don’t you build houses and encourage construction???? In France, many students (mainly Africa, and French departments like Guadeloupe, Tahiti or Martinique) come to study there (for free and we are proud of it!!!) BUT - unlike Canada - we do NOT have the same issues as Canada (our healthcare is NOT under pressure and our housing prices haven’t really increased that much as compared to Canada for example!!!) to me, the students are NOT to blame!!! It is the fault of the deciders (at different level) who have FAILED to set the right policies!!!! The schools are also to blame as some (not all) are so obsessed with making profits out of the higher international fees, which by way, subsidize Canadian students!!! So in Canada (not in France or Germany), the money that allows schools to function come from international students who BRING LOTS OF MONEY for the Canadian economy!!!! in France, it is different as the universities are FREE and are fully subsidized by the French government… but yes;) you have to speak French fluently to attend them!!!
So dear Canadians, do not blame foreign students thanks to whom your universities thrive and remain existant!!! Without them (namely the Indians too), the Canadian universities will struggle to find money and funding! Remember, the system in France is TOTALLY different!!!!

The government should change the rule to let international students into the country, beside getting accepted to the accredited schools , they also need to have a guarantor living here who will guarantee for their well-being ( including housing and food ) during their courses.
I can't get over how demanding and needy they are. They are not at home in India with their parents anymore, be smart or pay the price.
The whole Conestoga College diploma mill needs to stop. There are not enough housing and jobs for these students.
