  • It's been a long time since I've been home to Kyiv and an even longer time since the Chișinău to Kyiv train route has ran. Just one week before my trip the railroad line between the two countries reopened since 24 years ago. This would be a very special trip back home to Ukraine from Moldova.     Missing Kyiv... forced to leave on 24th in a rush, drove 20h drive to Moldova 24th-25th, then up north in europe with a 48h straight drive with two stops for 1h sleep each. cannot believe its almost a year ago...

    I love old school technology like trains and centralized steam heating because they are war resilient. Easy to repair when damaged. I read the railway system in Ukraine really helped get a lot of people to safety.

    If you ever need somewhere with good food in Chisinau, there's a great little canteen where most of the drivers eat at the north bus station.

    The information about the rail link Chișinău - Kiev is not 100% accurate. Until the covid pandemic, there used to be many trains Chișinău - Moscow with a stop in Kiev. So, the link actually existed almost all the time. Happy to see it works again.

      Well, yes, when the energy structure is being destroyed, there should be no electricity at all, but here it is, and now blackouts take a maximum of 4 hours a day. Where else would it be lol, in any other country they would refuse to repair burning transformers under the threat of shelling, and the electricity would have disappeared long ago, but not here.

      There's a lot worse things in life and regardless, no one gets kicked off a train for just that...
      If you are sleeping, talking all sorts of shit about Ukraine in full sentences, followed by some sleep walking that brings out 20+ years of latent MMA combat abilities for anyone "getting in the way."     Thanks for this. This is the easiest way for Indians to come back without getting a tedious Schengen Visa because Moldova has a simple e-Visa. Romania is another option but still got to go to embassy.

    Unless they painted multiple trains with the “victory” mural (which is definitely a possibility), I saw in a recent video the other day a train just like that richly decorated one you saw in the station at Chișinău pulling into a newly liberated Kherson, officially inaugurating the restored Kyiv-Kherson train route.

    Bucharest train station is embarrassing and so are the trains cause of all the corruption BUT ,in case you ever use Romanian railways again, CFR has a good app and now all tickets can be purchased online and shown digitally on the train

      You can book it on the Ukrainian Railways website, but you may need to use a VPN to access it. More details can be found on the seat61 website

    So you can fly to Moldova and then take the train to Kiev. That is most likely the easiest route to Kiev now
