I happened the same here as Russia after the fall of the USSR. The people who immediately grabbed power simply pillaged everything they could and left. Russia has dozens of Oligarchs who own almost all of the wealth of Russia but now live in the UK or Spain. It is the same with Moldova, all of the politicians in 1991-1995 simply stole everything of value and left. Only now with the younger generation is there a sense of national pride, and things are being built up again.
So sorry for you and your country, I had no idea it was this bad. Something needs to be done, but what can be done if so much money has been stolen out of the country, I know some of us in Norway now are donating 300 000 euro to hospitals. Hope things can change for the better for you
This guy is really a showman. He did not show the main streets the church, the Parliament area, museums, embassies area, the parks. It's just selected some horrible delerict places to make videos on and keep saying how how good Russia is. He does not know that almost half a million people were sent by beautiful Russia to Siberia to squash and kill any unrest and even today with Transnistria they keep Russian army at 60 minutes from Chisinau (the capital) in Transnistria and if you dare to sat anything bad about the Russians army you can get more than a half a decade of prison time for starters. If he had any sense or backbone he would ride the bus from Transnistria to Moldova and see how people go daily from the Russian frozen conflict area to Moldova (as poor as he screams out it is) just to have something to put on the table. There is a saying "You can't talk morals with a hungry man". The country is at a geopolitics faltline between the European Union/NATO and the Russian Federation, the weaker this no man's land(arguably, with Russian army in there) the easier it is to keep it broken and derelict. He picked and chose history and misdirected. The country, Moldova is part of a people - Romanians. The Soviet Union had troops on the border on Romania and gave Romanians 48 hours to leave the country or else full invasion of all the country. We lost it without fighting, which is sad I guess, but we are a small country and the Soviet Union was the other world power at that time with USA. So they took occupied, sent to Siberia or chased away any resistance and by braking away half of the historical region of Moldova from Romania they created this frozen conflict - why Moldova can't join the EU and is 4 times poorer than the rest of us Romanians living in Europe. This is why they get passports from us, to have a chance of a better life. There are nice places to see in Chisinau and Moldova (and Ukraine) both are dirt poor but also offer a different perspective than you would get if you would visit Italy or Spain. I would recommend visiting Transnistria, its like time travel to Soviet times, a little bit like North Korea (you will like it).

For one, there are still minorities that appeared during the USSR and that don't want it. Many don't want it because of political reasons and consequences and how hard it would be to merge. Some people, mostly that use Russian as their main language(even though theoretically Romanian is the official language. Moldova has its own dialect just to make it clear) want unification with Russia. Moldova is caught in the middle. Stats say that 55% don't want to unite(someone said in an interview "even though I would love to unite with the motherland, I am afraid about ruining our relationship with Russia". Consider that they are near Russia and it wouldn't take long for Russia to do something about it). Back to the stats, 25% say that they want to unite no matter what and the rest can't decide. Even though many consider we are the same people and culture not all are looking forward to this. There are also some that feel that they wouldn't fit well under Romania. Consider that under USSR people moved around the country and not only the older Moldavians remaining in the area. Also some Moldavians just would rather be independent. But as a country yes, they still are poor. I cross the country by train and village after village with no lights. That's why many teenagers come to Romania, become students so they can receive romanian citizenship and after that they can run away in Europe. It's not a country that you can visit them to see something nice, you go there to buy things cheaper, that's all.

Are you Moldovan? I heard most of Moldavia wants to reunite with his bro Romania. Is that true?
@@juanrescudero7271 in 1918 we were all united, but then split under Ribbentrop-Molotov. I as a Romanian consider them compatriots, same culture. I have Moldavian friends and they also think the same and would love to unite any day of the week(like many Romanians do), but on the other side of the Prut it's a bit more tangled. So even if many would like to, even some are undecided because of consequences.

This is all because of Hitler and Stablin, you know..?? as they call it... because KGB had to "find" an old an historically accurate name for the place, was actually supposed to be part of Romania nowadays, but sadly, they're all pretty brainwashed and still kissing Russian butt... I bet you Germans are all having a good laugh at this situation! Well, don't forget, who laughs last... laughs hardest! >_

Phi xo Believe me. Ive travelled app. 120 ocuntries, I know what to do or not. The guys I met were mixed couples Moldovian plus other nationalities from Europe. All spoke perfect English, and their invitation was super kind. In general, Moldova didnt seem any more dangerous than most other European countries. Talking about people, I really liked it.

@John Eric did we watch the same video? Brainwashing? Listen to the people, they used to be able to afford clothes, food, rent, healthcare, etc. Anyone would prefer that over the conditions they live in now. That's not brainwashing, that's just people trying to survive, they are longing for times when they'd could do that. They are lost now due to the tyranny of the ruling class, deep rooted corruption squeezing every last penny out of their citizens. Are you going to tell me similar things aren't happening in capitalist countries all round the world? If anything, you are the one who sounds indoctrinated with your blind hate of communism.
sad thing.
John Eric it hasn’t been communist for 30 years, if anything it’s been the fall of communism that’s destroyed it

As a romanian i didn't knew our neighbours are so poor ,i feel so sorry for them even if we are in the same waters
It's not that bad lol, you should come visit, during summer preferably.
I visit them, they are good but not that good. For exmple i change 100 RON (romanian currency) and i received 400 LEI (moldavian currency) and when i was talking to people like shops or restaurants their first word is in russian which is disturbing since they want to reunite with Romania but they still kissing russian ass and not the old ones even the younger ones.
Is it common to go around with guns there? I see there are laws on carry of firerarms, but are they enforced? Or people mostly do their own thing?
@@junichiroyamashita No, it's not common, fortunately.
From what I've read most Moldovans would like to reunite with Romania... for Romania however this is a problem because Moldova is a poor country by comparison (remember when West and East Germany reunited, that was very expensive).
i went to Moldova and it wasn't that bad. the people were very freindly and the food was nice and cheap. Its poor but people have pride

I left Moldova 30 years ago , never had a chance to visit my homeland. I am heartbroken to see the sadness in city which was one of the best during the USSR. Clean well taken care of, tourism was flourishing. It was a beautiful city full of life and happiness. Shame to politicians and crooks to ripped off their own country.
Unfortunately same goes for many other former socialist countries my friend. The oligarchs and the politicians that they serve them are the ones they say that socialism failed and that it doesn't work.

I was born in Kishinev and lived there till I was 15 years old.
The National hotel was called Intourist and it was made for foreigners. It was one of the most beautiful and impressive hotels in the city.
The fountain in front of this hotel was so beautiful it was printed on post card throughout USSR.
I used to visit the Observatorium when I was a small kid with my mother and listened to lectures about the stars and planets....
That is sad...
The city was almost completely destroyed during WW2. The city was rebuild in white stone with a single general plan to make it comfortable for living and transportation. And the underground road crossings were build using beautiful and impressive red pink gray and black granite plates.
It all looks terrible to me. I understand why nobody wants to visit this country
