  • Trackday on Rudskogen with the old 944. The power steering rack is faulty, that's why i'm turning 3 times during a corner. Suspension is also tired together with some old Toyo R888 tyres from 2012.The car is a handfull to drive on the track compared to the cup car.

    as we can see ,,masters of a straight street'' sometimes are quicker in their much more powerfull cars. great driving.

      Some bushings, dampers and a new steering rack would make a huge difference. The car is in winter storage at the moment, but will get my attention after i'm done with the blue 944 :)

      Yes look into a manual rack or depowered powerrack. Such fun cars the transaxlecars ! Your blue 944 looks fantastic👍

      @@pederfallbom Thanks, I will find a solution, maybe film a video about it. The 944 is really fun on the track! Except for the long straigths, but it shines in the corners ;)

    That 4 banger gives a lot of torque! Really did not need a lot of shifting to stay in the power band.

    • @CarsonmyMind

      Very flat torque curve from the 2.5L. This track isn't the best for theese car. Tighter and shorter tracks are better.

    You haven’t starved rod bearing #2 of oil yet?

      I have run my 944 turbo on track since 2014 (less during last years), bur have had no issues with number 2 bearing, ever running the car with 245mm front and 245mm rear Yokohama semi slick tires. I put oil baffle in the oil pan, new and reinforced oil pick-up tube and some other oiling related mods as well a new bearings.

    I can feel lots of understeer at turn #1

      @CarsonmyMind  3 года назад

      Curb jumping and a little understeer ;) Worst understeer is at turn #7, hard and long turn in a steep hill.

    Slow down before the curve and accelerate once you're in the curve. You're losing a lot of time in this curves. When you accelerate in the curve, your car will actually hug the track a lot better than you think and will have pretty good control. Other than that, pretty decent driving. Could improve a little on the steering but that'll come over time.

      This car is not set up for the track, but it's fun to do some laps sometimes. The power steering is broken, that's why i have to wiggle it before or during corners (Will rebuild it soon). The trick with the 944's is the coasting aspect, you can't drive it like a high horsepower car. You have to get as much corner speed as possible to not "loose" the torque out of the corners. If you slow down to much the engine will bog down and you loose seconds instantly. Since it's an open diff car you also have to wait sometimes for the rear to settle before you can apply throttle out of corners.

      @@CarsonmyMind that's really interesting! I have a Saab 93 SE as a daily so I'm used to that. And I'm actually in the process of working on a 944 with a friend of mine and will be purchasing it from him to use as a weekender and a track car. Let's link up and talk ideas about them if you are interested. Would love to have some help and advice from someone who actually drives one a lot haha.

      @@Feltbeats2 The 944 is a pretty basic car to work on, lots of space and easy to find parts. Hardest part to change is the clutch because of the transaxle, but other than that it's like every other 80's car. Hit me up when you start working on it ;)

    • @Feltbeats2
      @Feltbeats2 3 года назад

      @@CarsonmyMind hahaha well we actually just got it started running yesterday. Clutch is definitely something I want to work on as it catches on the very top and I'm afraid that once it wears down just a little, I'm going to lose it. Mine is an 89 944 base model. Will eventually swap the motor out and put in a turbo. Add me on Insta and or snap. RickXDaily on both.
