    i kind of want mario 3's forest to be moved over to an actual pipe theme for all styles and have mario 3 be given an actual forest. good video as always mr the hidden chest!!!

      @@sparexcalibur Tons of online courses that have something to do with the thene of pipes in titles or in the gimmicks alone will, then all the sudden be in a completely new theme.
      They cant just change one theme.

    I love the idea of a wildcard style, though I'd pick the Mario Kart theme for 3D World. It'd be perfect for koopa car levels.

      i'd pick the space theme from the final level in world star. really cool theme! besides, the airship theme in mario maker 2 already looks too similar to the circus theme.

    I think the gimmick for the Beach and Volcano should be having the option to remove the water / lava.
    I love the night theme gimmick tho.

      Technically, it'd be a lot easier to hide sky water/lava from the playable area of a level one were to create, so the night theme gimmick would accomplish that. Being able to remove partial liquids from themes that have them would be more of a general change they may or may not implement than it would be a theme gimmick.

      Being able to remove water/lava should be there for every theme. The night theme for the volcano theme should be meteors. I can't think of anything better for the beach so the beach night theme should have rain and the ground be slippery.

    I have a better idea for the night beach theme: there could be these waves like the lava waves from the NSMBU castle. (In water form ofc)
    The same would be with the volcano night theme.

    I'd love if we could have underground variants of desert and snow themes. So, ice and sand caves. The older games would probably need new tile sets but I know for a fact that they exist for SMW and NSMB.

    Love the tiles etc you came up with! However, I feel like some of the night gimmicks could be better:
    Beach: Waves
    Volcano: Occasional meteor showers
    Water castle: Water current

    It's awesome to hear someone else who wants a water castle. I think though it would make more sense to have castles just be able to change the liquid at the bottom from lava, water and bottomless pits. Same with forest but instead just water and bottomless pits, then make the beach and volcano the new water/lava locked themes.

    I think legally it'd be a challenge to get US SMB2, so I didn't expect it
    But since a lot of people brought it up, SML wouldn't be so bad.
    Ik this isn't quite what you were speaking on, but I was just saying if we were to get a new style to play in
    I'd like for someone to go over that the different themes for it, as I don't know too much about the series, but the style looks nice and different enough to be added to SMM2

    13:40 I'm surprised in general that they didn't use any Lost Levels-assets at all instead of always creating new ones. I mean, Lost Levels had Sky-Levels but they still made new assets for that theme in Mario Maker.

      Yeah, really hope that doesn't mean they plan to somehow shoehorn in a Lost Levels style as something separate like the crazy 3DW(2D) idea they launched MM2 with instead of going with something unique enough to warrant it. On the other hand, if they do add more interchangeable styles in addition to adding at least one more unique style so that 3DW's category being plural isn't a huge lie, I won't complain.
      Though, maybe, over the years, SMB2(Japan) has become as much of a black sheep as people try to paint SMB2(USA) as? The way I see things, while it is true Mario Maker in particular has taken a lot of mechanical inspiration from Lost Levels, especially some of the night theme gimmicks, the Mario series as a whole has taken on a whole lot more mechanical and design inspiration from Doki Doki Panic as it progressed. (And obligatory mention that DDP's engine was originally developed to be used for a Mario series sequel before it got repurposed to fill that contract, so the USA version is the proper SMB2 in spirit anyway. Lost Levels was just an expansion pack by comparison to the jumps in content innovation between arcade Mario Bros to SM1, SM1 to DDP, and DDP to SMB3.)

    Some ideas I have:
    Wildcard Night:
    Changes the player's moveset to encompass all moves across all 5 games.
    City:
    A locale based off city areas, with 3D World blatantly being New Donk.
    City Night:
    A rainstorm sweeps the city, affecting the momentum of all airborne objects.
    Tank:
    A standard tank level. The ground is placed like water, with the boat icon growing treads for it.
    Tank Night:
    Instead of tanks, it's boats. Or something.
    Final Castle:
    The last one. Very big and dramatic.
    Final Castle Night:
    The player is assaulted by the Koops Kids or Kamek.
    Maker:
    The Ground style, but done like the E3 2014 demo. The edit music always plays.
    Maker Night:
    The gameplay is the same as SMB1, like the original version.
    Space:
    _Spaaaaaace._ Low gravity is present.
    Space Night:
    Welcome to the Star Maze, chump.
    Factory:
    A manufacturing plant. What they produce, who knows?
    Factory Night:
    High gravity.
    Sand Cave:
    Like a normal cave, but sandy.
    Sand Cave Night:
    It's an ice cave now.
    Cartoon:
    It's the Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
    Cartoon Night:
    Everything is just rough sketches.
    Tower:
    Like a castle, but taller and less imposing.
    Tower Night:
    The whole screen is rotated 90° counterclockwise, as are the controls.
    Glitch:
    Everything seems to be all messed up.
    Glitch Night:
    The Black Hole Glitch is always active, and areas in this style aren't checked for glitches.
    Remix:
    You're in a game other than Mario.
    SMB1: Kid Icarus (Stage 1-1)
    SMB3: Kirby's Adventure (Vegetable Valley)
    SMW: Yoshi's Island (Make Eggs, Throw Eggs)
    NSMBU: DKC: Tropical Freeze (Mangrove Cove)

    It's in reverse: A non-Mario character is in Mario.

    SMW: SMW NES Pirate
    NSMBU: NSMBDS
    SM3DW: Super Mario Galaxy

      Other notes:
      Final Castle in SMB1 is based on the castle from 2/The Lost Levels.
      Glitch Night has the Black Hole only kick in if you hold the Item Select button while placing assets.
      Remix Night may also be stackable with the other themes. No guarantees about normal Remix.

    SMB Arcade Night - Enemies that can be defeated by jumping on them can no longer be defeated by doing so and vise versa
    Alternatively, a wrap around effect is created if a wall is created with one ways on any spot(s) on both sides
    SMB3 Giant Night - Any (all enemies, gismos, terrain, etc) giant assets cannot be destroyed or interacted with by the player directly in any way
    SMW Autumn Night - Enemies will be sleeping/enemy gismos will be deactivated until ran near, attacked, and/or awaken with an asset that creates noise
    NSMBU Artsy Night - The player and all other entities can cling to all surfaces of blocks and other solid assets (to accentuate that mystic and fictitious vibe the theme gives)
    SM3DW Circus Night - Light will shine from one side of the screen (determined by level creator) which illuminates everything in that area until a block/another solid object shields it, almost like a spotlight effect
    And maybe there can also be a Tower theme (like the midway castles in NSMBDS/WII/U) where in the Night mode variant, enemies slowly drift towards the player
    While we're on the subject, is there any difference between the Underwater night mode and Ghost House night mode apart from the underwater/aboveground movement physics?

    I went and thought of how the extra Nighttime theme gimmicks would work for the game! How about;
    Nighttime Beach: Water will act similar to how nighttime Desert works for each theme, except only the water is effected;
    SMB: Water will occasionally push you backwards
    SMB3: Water will occasionally push you forwards
    SMW: Water will switch between left and right
    NSMBU: Water will constantly push you forward
    Nighttime Volcano: Meteor Showers will fall from the sky
    Nighttime Mountain: High Gravity (basically the opposite of Nighttime Sky)

    About the water castle, what if the player was able to choose either putting rising water or lava or poison in their level and then the level theme itself changing depending on what liquid you put in with standard castle theming for lava and your water castle designs when you add water or poison. On that note I think they should have made poison more Sonic-like by making it slightly tinged purple but still see-through and having a 30 second timer when entering that makes Mario take damage when it runs out (not insta death unless you are small Mario) with coins adding a second to the timer and powerups resetting the timer to 30 unless you're above that amount via coins. Big coins would gain even more value as collecting one would give you seconds proportional to their amount. One last note is that we should be able to place the water and poison anywhere we please. Other than that, great video dude.

      Not really in my opinion.
      Yoshi’s Island is not a Mario game, I really feel like Mario Land 1 or 2 should be the exclusive sub-style for Mario World.
      But it could happen!

    If only there were a dungeon-sequel theme that didn’t have lava and felt like you were entering the final bosses layer...
    *Oh yeah, there’s the Fortress Theme.*
    Or tower, midway-castle, whatever you want to call it. It fits well with being a castle-y theme that doesn’t carry the lava and theatrics. If you want a more casual building that isn’t spooky and doesn’t have perpetual boss music, then this is the choice!

    Night beach (like desert but only inside the water,so it’s hard to swim)
    Night water castle (water on cealing)
    Night volcano (meteor coming from the background)
    Nigh Mountain (opposite of sky, jumping becomes harder, gravity is stronger)

    I always wished that Nintendo gave the option to turn off thematic cohesion. If Nintendo could let us mix and match the blocks and decor from any of the themes, it could make for some truly wacky and interesting combinations. Having grass tiles in a lava castle, small pipes in literally any smb3 theme, etc. Not to mention that would allow creators far more decorative and cosmetic possibilities. It would be so easy to do too, it's not like they would be changing the function of the land tiles, just the cosmetic appearance.

    I have a great Idea for the SMB3 night volcano theme. Since Super Mario 3D Land is based off of SMB3, and since the volcano theme by itself is already basically at nighttime, I think the night volcano theme in SMB3 could have a day-like aesthetic. To top it off, the ground tiles, semisolids, and enemies could become golden yellow. The reasoning for this is because the night volcano theme for SMB3 would be based off of the map for Special World 8 in Mario 3D Land, accompanied with a music box remix of the Mario drawing song for the overworld music.

    Castle Varients are some things that we need.We have almost every type of ground theme covered already.
    I feel like we need to move towards to atmospheres and really unique themes.
    Mountians,Caves, finally someone who understands the jmportance of an attistic and cinematic elements.
    I would also change the Water Castle to maybe be some sort of atlantis for Mario World.
    To think of effects I thing fog would work well for the mountians.
    Different seasonal Forest themes would be cool as sub themes

    I think a good idea for volcano’s night theme would be that volcanic rocks or meteors fell down destroying blocks, that would be great for classic and exploring levels :)

    I'm back, and with a revised list of Course Themes. Here they are:
    Beach:
    Super Mario Bros would use a modified version of the Underwater semisolid sand, while Super Mario World would use a modified version of the Ground tiles.
    Volcano:
    Super Mario Bros miiiight use an unused tile type from Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels, while Super Mario World would instead take place outside, but still use the tiles. 3D World would probay take place in Lava-Rock Lair due to its conventional volcano-ness. In addition, the night effect would instead have volcanic debris fall from the sky.
    Mountain:
    I am in full agreement with you. In vertical sub-areas, you use the arrows in the Autoscroll menu to choose which direction you can go in.
    Sand Cave:
    A cave deep in the desert.
    SMW: Chocolate Island 5
    NSMBU: Perilous Pokey Cave
    SM3DW: Ant Trooper Hill
    At night, the cave freezes over.
    SMB3: World 6-5
    SMW: Donut Secret 2
    NSMBU: Icicle Caverns
    SM3DW: Peepa's Fog Bog (if they ever add night in 3D World)
    Tower:

    A good old urban landscape. This assumes we don't get Super Mario Odyssey as DLC.
    SMB1: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros. (Music from Nintendo Land: Donkey Kong's Crash Course)
    SM3DW: New Donk City (Super Mario Odyssey)
    SMB3, SMW and NSMBU would have original creations.
    At night, there would be a rainstorm, pushing everything in midair.
    Special:
    Secret courses that only the best can find. YOU ARE SUPER PLAYER !!
    SMB1: World -1, World 9 (2:TLL)
    SMB3: Peach's chamber
    SMW: Mondo's background, Star World 2's tiles
    NSMBU: Follow that Shell!, Flying Squirrel Ovation

    At night, every object moves twice as fast, making for some hectic platforming.
    Wildcard:
    SMB1 should be the ending of Story Mode. Although Giant Land is cool, I can imagine that it would be too difficult to implement, so I propose that we instead use the Battle Minigames. At night, the game basically morphs into the original version of Mario Maker, from E3 2014, changing Mario's gameplay to that of SMB1.

    Instead of water in the ceiling on Beach Night themes let's add something that makes sense in a way.
    Tsunamis.
    Remember that level from (idk what game of NSMB series) in a castle that Lava Waves come from right to left and the player needed to dodge them at all cost?
    This would be great, because there's already a Wind version in the Desert Theme, now a Water version in the Beach theme and even a Lava version for Volcano theme, maybe.
    You could change the height of the Water/Lava AND the height of the Waves separatedly - of course you can't put the Waves inside the Water/Lava.
    Your idea for Beach and Volcano night themes isn't bad, i think it fits very well, but they really should bring back some of the unique NSMB things.

    The Tower Theme. It Usually Only Fits With Vertical Levels But There Was A Level In The Impossible Pack In The Tower Theme Which Was Not Vertical So Problem Solved. The Night Theme I Think Would Be Screen Wrapping So When Mario Runs Off The Right Side Of The Screen He Ends Up On The Very Left. I Don't Have Many Ideas For Textures But 3D World HAS To Be Fuzzy Time Mine. It's Perfect, You Can't Change My Mind.

    I think caves should be like the day-night switch. To elaborate you would click a button to turn it into a cave theme. Also you could have nighttime cave themes where the game has a weird mix of upside down levels or its above ground counterpart eg: windy dessert caves or upside down ship caves. Finally I think some caves should have the dark theme when turned to night. (Ground theme caves would just be normal caves)

    Desert and Beach Themes are somewhat in SMM2:
    *SMB3’s forest theme looks more beachish (with the water filled asthetics).
    *SMW’s desert theme looks more mountainous.

    New soup gets water
    World gets wind

    For the caves & the castles they should add different types of themes like Water, Desert, Ice, Lava. It would be cool to that they add different backgrounds too that are base on that theme. This is unlikely.

    For the 3D World Volcano Theme, I was thinking 4-Castle. It's more... Volcano-y. Plus, the could even add 2 new enemies. Bro(u)lders which you can pick up, and one that I just thought of while writing this. The Wall Monster. He's just a Background Piece, but it like jumps out at ya. Kinda cool, right?

    I would like to have extra levels themes for each Game style,here's my ideas for each style:
    SM3DW:Train or Circus themes
    NSMBU:Painted Swanpland
    SMW:Sunken Ship or Autumn Forest
    SMB3:Forest(because the "Forest" theme in Smb3 is Pipe Land for some reason) or Giant Land
    SMB:Glitched World or water castle

    The Spooky theme from world 8 in New Super Mario Bros. DS would be pretty neat because that's my favorite world 8 in any Mario game because it's pretty unique while most world 8's are lava themed we got a flipping spooky themed world 8 in New Super Mario Bros. DS

    For the mountain at night it should be fog instead; showing you where you have gone. It wouldn’t be like the water and ghost houses as you wouldn’t have a large circle around you.

    What I think would be cool is that different themes could have an alternate background of the same style of the theme, for example new soup wii's grass land background could be the alternate background of the new soup U background.

    Honestly, I would want different versions for a few themes, Instead of them just being stand-alone themes.
    A few ideas for these themes include desert underground (Example: 2-2 from NSMBU,) Ice underground (Example: 4-5 from NSMBU,) Outdoor ghosthouse (Basically the final part of every NSMB ghosthouse, besides 6-4 from NSMB2, which is the theme for the whole level,) Water Castle, and Ice Castle.
