    I think the "Riding Seahorses and Mermaids blowing horns" prophecy is a spoiler for the battle of ice, where the Frey forces will charge into the ice lake, be betrayed by the Manderlys, and then Stannis will disguise his troops in the Frey colours to infiltrate Winterfell. Guess we'll have to wait for Winds to see if I'm right.

    • @AndrewK23777

      I definitely think you are onto something there and I have long agreed with that perspective. I strongly agree that the Manderlys will turn on and sabotage the Freys in the upcoming Battle of Ice on the battlefield , which will likely be the impetus for Stannis & the Northern Conspiracy to win the day and oust the Boltons ; and that PF prophecy is likely in reference to this upcoming occurrence.

    • @karlablack894

      Well the mermaid is the symbol of the Manderlys, but the seahorse is the symbol of house Velaryon, who are also known for ships and sailing, so maybe they're another house that will ferry troops to fight the others. The horn could be signaling to the troops already there as they drop off reinforcements.

      Amanda is brilliant & an excellent creator in her own right and yes Robert is a great host / collaborator for her to shine in these types of discussions ; and such is always great to have her on IDG. I actually like that she is a humble, reserved and not overly pushy with her ideas (despite me agreeing with most everything in terms of her perspectives and theories) as it refreshing in this fandom / community. Part of why i like Robert / IDG so much as well as they are not the obtrusive , in your face , loud hostile voices that make up some of the voices in the community , they just lead by their brilliant insights , theories and content. My only wish is that Amanda had more time to make content and make more appearances on this and other channels , especially her own content because whenever she comes out with vids they are just excellent. But alas she seems to be quite busy in her life with family and work etc , so we have to take what we can get from her as time allows. If you have not watched her vids I highly recommend checking out her channel , some excellent content can be found there.

    About to watch this and I have definitely been looking forward to this one Robert and Amanda, for a few weeks since Robert announced it. Always great to have Amanda on and she makes excellent content on her own channel as well. Patchface is an interesting little part of the narrative, who warrants having a look back on and analyzing. We have seen ice and fire magic & resurrections and PF is an example of another elemental magic at work in this universe , water magic. Personally I believe the magic in GRRM's universe is a bit of a nexus and likely all comes from a main source ; the differences come from its manifestations via different mediums depending on the type of magic someone uses , the practitioner themselves and possibly where a character is located at the time of using. I think the evidence of this is the visions and what we could call the ethereal realm seems to have a lot of overlap in the fact that all the different magical practitioners seem to see each other despite using different mediums / types of magic to access the visions as well as seeing many of the same characters and events in a prophetic way.
    Patchface's insights / visions /songs may be a bit enigmatic and even silly but they seem to be rather accurate from a prophetic standpoint. Personally i think PF is another example that GRRM uses of near death / major traumatic experiences / death of ego / broken people opening character's third eyes and metaphysical side that he often uses not only with PF but also with Bran , Aeron , Theon may be skewing that way a bit etc. This seems to be taken from the Odin concept , how he sacrificed / lost an eye and hung himself on a tree for for far reaching sight and wisdom. PF seems to have gained rather accurate enigmatic prophecy from his drowning despite losing his memory and most of his wits. After the near death event , PF is likely imbued with water magic seemingly as a water wight if not an actual puppet of a magical water entity who is pulling the strings. Personally , i do not necessarily see him as evil after his experience as some seem to think ; i just think especially from Mel's perspective she sees someone with accurate prophetic ability (the accuracy of visions / interpreting them is something Mel struggles with) from outside of her faith / magic as evil and something to fear & possibly a threat to her. Ntm the way she sees him with red bloody lips and surrounded by skulls would of course influence her opinion of him ; but to me that matches up more with the violent , bloody , deadly nature of his visions / prophesies , not that he will be the cause of such things imo although anything can happen. I actually see it more likely that PF could be sacrificed at some point (likely by Mel).
    Patchface is definitely an interesting character to look back on - another prophetic figure (of a seemingly rather accurate variety) , connected to key events and characters and seemingly an example of yet another elemental type of magic at work that we have not seen much of outside of PF.

    • @AndrewK23777
      @AndrewK23777 4 года назад +2

      @@krakentacos thanks KT , and yes that is true as well , that could change things , he does spend a lot of time with Shireen and I would think is quite protective of her ; so that could illicit a dangerous response / turn from PF when that whole situation goes down. Especially as you say , there does seem to be some strange goings on / magic that has crept / flowed into him post his near death / death and resurrection. At this point we don't know if he is simply a water wight or literally a puppet of some magical water entity pulling the strings. So definitely some variables at work there.

    Patchface has become obese over the years, which makes him different from Beric and Lady Stoneheart, who as wights, their only physical changes are signs of breakage or decay. Beric has a bashed in head and big sword wounds, that do not heal, because he is dead. Lady Stoneheart's hair has become brittle and lost its color, the wights become fragile, because being dead, they do not heal.
    Patchface has grown obese over the years, which is a sign of life, because it is growth. He drowned, but he didn't die. I wonder if this aspect of Patchface drowning but not dying might be a template for Jon Snow, because Jon is likely living in Ghost while he is bleeding on the ground. Will Jon be murdered, but not die.

They seem to be slightly intelligent men trying to get by secretly. Moon boy, Mushroom, Tyrion, Ser Dontos (not so intelligent, but not so stupid)... im positive there is at least 1 or 2 more examples. But aside all that, there is definitely a magical aspect here.

    I have a slightly more literal take on the following:
    "I will lead it. We will march into the sea and out again. Under the waves we will ride seahorses, and mermaids will blow seashells to announce our coming, oh, oh, oh."
    In a round about way, I think this refers to a triad alliance between Stannis, Wyman Manderly, and Aurane Waters. As a member of House Velaryon, Aurane's sigil is a seahorse. As it pertains to the alliance, I think the seahorses Patches referenced are the war drommonds Aurane stole from Cersei. I think "march into the sea and out again" means they will travel somewhere by boat, Aurane's boats, and in this instance I don't think it's Hardhome; I think it's Dragonstone, and there Stannis will square off w/Dany as the blue eyed king who cast no shadow. It's also worth noting here that the sea's equivalent of a horse on land is a boat. Very multilayered. Moving on.
    Lord Wyman's sigil is a mermaid, so the "mermaid blowing seashells to announce our coming" could mean he'll declare for Stannis as he promised to do (which would also mean Davos held up his end of the deal and succeeded in smuggling Rickon to Wyman's custody). My secret wish, though I know it's unlikely, is that "mermaids blowing seashells" means Lord Wyman will mark his alliance with Stannis by killing Sibyl Spicer in Robb's name. I want that woman to get her comeuppance so badly I can taste it!
    Lastly, I remain open to the possibility that because Patchface was speaking to Jon, it's possible Jon and Aurane form an alliance if Stannis dies. It would be a nice call back to the historic relationship between House Targaryen and House Velaryon.

Every time I hear her talk I’m impressed by her insight into ASOIAF and I always learn something new. And this was no exception to that. I have never made the connection before this between the various fools, characters with fool like characteristics, and the related drownings in the books. Now that I hear how this has been repeated with several characters, I believe there must be some purpose behind it. I do think it was a shame that the television series left the fools out of their version of the story, for all intents and purposes. For anyone who hasn’t already checked out The Disputed Lands videos I highly recommend them. Not because he's blue or anything (he's cream and gold) but he does have Ice Dragon symbolism. However if his fate matches the fate of Viserion in the show - White Walker Viserion - then the blue fire/flames also make sense. :)

    Interesting note about the dragon flames changing. I always assumed their flame colors being related to their scale and crest colors. Tessarion would spit blue fireballs, Balerion and Drogon have black and red flames, Sunfyre's are gold, and Quicksilver had white pale flames. I wonder if Viserion will have blue flames if he becomes a wight since their eyes burn with blue fire according to Varamyr...

    Speaking on the trope of "the fool in motley who drowns and is resurrected 3 days later" we know that Cat fits in but does her raking her nails across her face leaving bright red tracks add the "motley" component that she was missing?

      From a Doylist perspective this may be something reminiscent of Jesus' crucifixion with the crown of thorns. Catelyn wasn't given a crown of thorns, but the imagery is still there with her raking her face from forehead to cheek, thus blood flowing from the forehead. But from a Watsonian perspective I believe the raking of her face and eyes is weirwood symbolism. Throughout the books, Catelyn has had many instances of this symbolism. She is fair, with red hair, and she has also had bloody hands from stopping the catspaw that was after Bran. Her raking her face and eyes, just adds to the symbolism considering a weirwoods face is also considered bloody due to the red sap. Lucifer Means Lightbringer has coined this symbolism as being the Weirwood Stigmata. :)

    *to add to robberts theory about green, blue, and black corresponding to dragon fire.* I've always kind of hoped GRRM would go a different direction than the showrunners in regard to having the others take a dragon. But this theory could suggest that one of them is taken by an other and thus has blue flame.

    Any cold water drowning has the ability to trigger the human body into a mammalian state. Particularly in children, the body goes into a hibernation, or mammalian, state when submerged in cold water. Resuscitation from a mammalian state often leaves the person without brain or organ damage from lack of oxygen.

    I would love to see videos like this about the Maester Conspiracy and how Hoster Tully , Tywin Lannister and Rickart Stark were possibly part of that.
    I do believe all these people were plotting to overthrown House Targaryen so they started making alliance BUT Aerys screwed things up by making Jaime a King's Guard , so he could not marry Lysa and so did Lyanna when she willingly refused to marry Robert, leaving House Baratheon away from that scheme of aliances . I think she told or wrote about her scape, making it clear she wouldn't marry Robert( and knowing Robert we know he would not take another wife at that time) but someone told Hoster Tully and/or his maester and they invented the lies we know, like her kidnapp and rape, poisoning Brandon's mind, we all know what happened later.

    I know this is a 3 year old video, but the whole "seeing the truth and predicting the future but no one believes them" thing is (as ya'll mentioned) VERY Lovecraft. You see it in so many worlds, both the ones written by him and those written by his friends/admirers.
    Vampire the Masquerade has a whole bloodline on that theme, the Malkavians. Malkavians saw to much, knew too much, and so their curse (each Cainite clan has at least 1) clan has at least 1 curse) is madness which often causes the in game characters to dismiss them and their words. One of the interesting things about the bloodline is actually that, at least in my experience with the game, the overwhelming majority of players and GMs ALSO do not acknowledge Malks as anything other than completely crazy. They're seen as the joke/fool characters and so they rarely function as intended because either the player doesn't know/care or the GM doesn't know/care about what the Malkavians are actually supposed to be. So I guess the interesting societal irony here is that, even when we are directly told in their base descriptions that they aren't just crazy, we struggle to see it.

    GRRM & Gandalf: I'm not sure why George says what he does about Gandalf - Gandalf isn't mortal. He can't die like a mortal can. Gandalf is one of the Ainur, who are the helpers of the one god of that universe. This makes them similar to the angels of the Abrahamic religions. The Ainur were in the universe before the planet of Arda was created and helped Eru Iluvatar (the god of that universe) create the universe. An Ainur's physical form can be destroyed, but they can just take another. This is specified multiple times in Tolkien's books.

    Like the theories. Though I dont believe it's patch face that's having the prophetic dreams. Its Shireen Baratheon. She has the dragon blood and the master said she's been plagued by bad dreams all her life. She just tell patchface and he repeats it. What patches starts going off about the red wedding she asked the master to make him be quiet because she's scared. So Shireen is the dreamer.

    Patchface has to be one of the most mysterious characters in the books. It certainly makes sense that he was dead for some time and as such lost part of himself when he came back. The question remains then, why does Lady Stoneheart seem relatively (mentally) intact other than her all consuming rage, considering her and Patchface were dead for the same amount of time? What does this mean for Jon then, assuming he is also dead for three days before being revived?

    • @rianbeegles3349
      @rianbeegles3349 4 года назад

      We don't know that Jon will be dead for three days though yet. It's highly likely but this may not be the case in the books, however if it's longer at least they have the ice cells to preserve Jon's body in case. I also think we need to consider the mental state of the dead right before they are dying. Catelyn had a mental break right before dying which is most likely why she's acting the way she is as LSH. We also know the things important to them right before they die, seem to turn into obsessions upon their resurrections. We also need to consider that resurrections may be different depending on the magic being used. My guess is that Patchface may have suffered a head injury before his resurrection that impacted the outcome. As for Jon, I believe his second life in Ghost will preserve his memories, but nothing more. I think Jon will come back more wolfish and more obsessed with defeating the Bolton's and finding Arya.

    Somewhat off topic, but if wights cannot go in the water it would fit into a lot of conventions in the book. The wall is made of ice, literally a wall of water. The dead men who John brought back to the wall are kept in the ice cells (in water) and never come back. Finally all of the children of the forest island and water based territory.
