One of my proudest victory was playing Mayans against Goths. I tower rushed the game like crazy and did it the damage before the flood. After he started Hurskals I made Two Handed Swordman and finished. That was so cool...
Nice one. I enjoy everytime me or somebody smash goths :D Bulgarians and japanese are great counter civs since you can easily be the first one who masses swordsman and your unique units are very helpful against huscarl spam.

Most of the time i just have to accept it and stay in Feudal much longer than the opponent. House wall and palisade wall starting in mid dark age. Go skirms unless your opponent is a cav civ, then go second barracks spears, adding new vills to wood and farms. Doing a counter strike if possible is ideal. It will either force their army back to base or cause a distraction at least. Even once in castle, you may need to forgo the extra TCs and get a defensive siege workshop if youre really being pressured. Watch the video again. Its a pain in the ass to play goths but satisfying as hell when you get that V.
TheAmazingDom only hope would be generic infantry line but good luck keeping up while having to do a tech switch and make up for the production rate disadvantage
No Eco bonuses for the Goths. They are already a slow civ, so raiding Goths is worse for them than most civs any point of the game. Rarely is the Goths player floating a ton of resources when hitting castle so even then, you still have time. The spam is eco intensive and unless the Goths are using houses and palisades to full wall early (further putting the Goths player behind in wood) then they will be open to eagle raids which don't need a castle to make. Best to have the eagles split into smaller groups so the trickle of Huskarls have to chase one group at a time, or split and be outnumbered. Onagers are also not Goth-friendly at any point really. Be sure to keep them guarded against huskarls who I have great success with in taking down all siege due to their speed and attack; only takes a few seconds so a meat shield is not negotiable. Or if the Mayans can full wall (stone walls are actually a great idea, but that will be less for the Mayan Castles) and are confident enough to keep the Goths out, then fast castle and out boom the goths completely, Goths wont catch up if you can stay protected. Beware the Goth towers, of course.

So, according to me, goths don't have an eco bonus, unlike, say, the Turks or the Britons. if you consider cheaper infantry as an eco bonus, then, by the same logic, do you also think that the Byzantines get an eco bonus in the form of cheaper skirms, pikes, and camels? Also by the same logic, do the Spanish get an eco bonus because their blacksmith upgrades cost no gold? idk. maybe it is an eco bonus. but, it doesn't feel like it.

If you pay for 3 infantry units, but get 4, then you either get more infantry for the same amount of villager work time or the same amount of infantry and more buildings/tech. Ergo an eco bonus. Or are you gonna argue that the portuguese gold bonus is not an eco bonus either? That one would be a hard sell.
You didn't need to make your own longswords against his generic longswords. Huskarls beat Long Swordsmen (without Supplies) cost efficiently (they're not only statistically stronger but also slightly cheaper; 60 food + 20 gold compared to 52 food + 26 gold is a good trade for the Huskarls). You coulda just taken the fight against his longswords the first time you saw them. Since the Mayans don't get Supplies. or maybe they did in this version of the game and I live under a rock
Funny, becouse its not true :D They may have similiar stats but goths swordsman are even cheaper and i believe they got attack bonus against other infantry... So Champion (espc. japanese and vikings one) just smash elite huscarls unless you got crazy eco lead...
If you love goths you hate tactics :D Tbh goths are soo easy to play and especially in the beginners elo they are nearly insta win. But I enjoy more stomping goths before they got castle and 20 barracks on your face.Its more fun, more challenging etc...
That's a losing game. The huskarls will just keep flooding in and killing eco. Plumes can't defend against that pressure. The right play is to go to imp. El Dorado eagles trade evenly against elite huskarls.
@@naphackDT yes but your need some plum to harass then tranfer in to Eagles late, that bester than wasting a lot of food and gold for eagle with no upgrade. A group of Plum still deal better with huskarl than eagles and your have some castle for defense.

Goths are one of my favourite the only problem is I can manage to defend myself against aggressive feudal age players, any suggestions?

What do Mayans even do vs Goths in castle age? They don't have any units that trade well vs huskarls 1 on 1, let alone vs the flood
