California Insane Blizzard Slams Donner Pass - Hundreds stranded

  • One of the worst #blizzards I have ever experienced in any part of the nation hit #California for several days. With strong gusts and a lot of snow blowing, Interstate 80 was reduced to a parking lot, leaving hundreds of people stranded. While CHP and CalTrans worked to free everyone stranded on Donner Pass, semi trucks were strewn all over the road. Whiteout conditions and a lot of snow earlier in the day produced traffic jams throughout the pass. We removed a large number of cars.

I blame the news media for making everything a B.F.Deal when it isn't. I hated my local news because they did that over and over. In Oklahoma City only Gary England would tell the truth, minor ice, maybe bridges might ice up when other channels had everyone at the grocery store stocking up when it wasn't necessary. He retired and their news lost its integrity too. Gary England is who developed doppler radar for tornadoes.
You cannot cry wolf all the time then people stop believing you. This cluster is what happens. Notice it is mostly 18 wheelers out on the highway, they have to run regardless. Sit on the road or sit in the truckstop if there is room.

I think some people want to get caught out to see what happens.....There was a major forest fire in my area once and an ex-boyfriend and his buddy thought it would be fun to see what the fire looked like up close. Very sad indeed, but no one ever said 'truck drivers are smart'.
In reality some people actually enjoy demonstrating how dumb they are every chance they get. They could have been resting comfortably at a nice tuck stop with hot food, fuel and toilets. Instead they preferred to block up the highway so the snowplows could not possibly do their jobs and clear the roads of snow. These guys actually like being stuck on the highway watching the snow pileup deeper and deeper around their vehicles.
There will never be Equality because as we can see we are not all equally smart.

You're so smart... Wow, that yuppie going skiing is more important than food and goods being delivered to Reno and beyond...

Tough call for the truckers. But being under Contract to deliver their loads, they don't have a choice except to go as far as can and hopefully not get stuck as we see here. If they refuse to drive over the mountain, it will come out of their pockets. They got the news and are well stocked and warm in their cabs to wait the storm out. Its the travelers that make the bad decisions to drive in this, get stuck and put other people at risk for their bad choices. God bless you truckers!

They didn't have to take 80 and Donner Pass is well known for getting slammed and 80 getting shut down
