  • This week Kate and Florence have been testing out the new Citroen eC4. Just over 1000 miles were covered and some good efficiency based on this being a decent sized family car, and it really is just that. Join us to find out how we got on.

    Great review Kate...am with you on the heated wheel.....I specced it as an option on my last car (Focus ST3) and was really glad I did ...I used it more than I thought I would....I really miss not having it on the MG ZS :(

    Good to see you back with your able assistant. Now that I have a petrol car again I can say the much slower throttle response took me a while to get used to after an EV (even though it's a sports car and much faster than my Zoe once moving). E 208 still my favourite on this platform but I think the Citroen has a lot of merit if you need more practicality.

    Looks a really nice car and I can see the Ipace shape. The price seems very reasonable for the quality of fit and finish. 4 miles per Kw not bad but not as good as my E Niro that returns nearer to 5 mpk.

    Good review & plenty miles covered in 1 week. 4 miles per kWh was really really good, real world average 30 mph though. If i could get even near that with my e-Corsa i would be very happy. Odd really because the same motor, lighter lower. The thing is that to me i can not drive around in ECO with it only producing the equivalent of 80 ps rather than Normal and 110ps or Sport & 136ps, and leaving it in B makes it feel so heavy rather then shifting into B as and when i want to have that much regen.

    • @brec5879
      @brec5879 2 года назад

      I thought the the B drive mode is only for going down steep hills. Not to be left on. I’d look this up. He seen a lot of remarks on this.

    • @georgewalker7061
      @georgewalker7061 2 года назад +1

      @@brec5879 people leave it on B. Some in ECO and B and some never use B. The choices are there. D is only about 110 ps and the steering is lighter and Sport is so much responsive and the steering heavier and using B to slow and not using the brakes when you want to slow suits many.

But, like i said, both dealers seemed to have no confidence in it, all i got from them was a series of ‘are you sure’ questions, so i walked away and ordered my 2nd choice, that simple really. If the VW sales people had showed more enthusiasm in their product then i wouldve been more than happy with my choice, i ordered a non electric version of this Citroen because the electric one doesnt have the real world range of the VW that i needed for my weekly needs😊

    Nice car. We test drove this extensively along with the MG ZS ev. Went for the MG eventually. Higher equipment level, moonroof etc.and great interior space. Liked the faux leather and heated seats in the MG as well as the elevated seat height. Citroen was very comfotable though, and not much difference in performance or acceleration. the tabet holder is nice but becomes a boomerang cause when it breaks you will cry how expensive the spare will be.
    Do not forget that Citroen is part of the group that hast raised spare part prices by more than 100% cause they took the max. price of the most expensive brand in its size - Who wants to pay higher prices than mercedes spare part prices for a cheap plastic citroen?
    And depreciation of a citroen is the next big nightmare for several reason.

    Hello Kate (and James and Florence),
    Why would you want a "Glove Box" (Big or Small)?
    There are a few people that drive cars whilst wearing gloves (e.g. Lewis Hamilton in his employer's car) but I bet they don't have a box to put their gloves in.
    Motor cyclists, on the other hand, do wear gloves and most of them just stuff their gloves into their helmet when not using them.

    • @whatever-xw8cw

  • @bertie1989

    Come on guys, not everything in these EV’s is “excellent” or “fantastic”. The price is far too high which you did mention, no mention of the PSA groups shocking reliability. 9.7 to 62 is super mini slow by any account. It’s obvious you want to convert people to electric cars but false bias is not the way to go. Kate and Florence are both naturals in front of a camera though 👍🏻

    • @whatever-xw8cw
      @whatever-xw8cw 2 года назад +4

      Well, I compared the total cost (including road tax and fuel costs) for leasing the electric version vs the petrol version, and it is cheaper for me to lease the electric version.
      I have owned 5 PSA cars before and have not had any issues, was not Peugeot even labelled to be the most reliable car brand in the UK last year by JD Powers I think?
      9,7 seconds from 0 to 62 mph is not fast by EV standard but totally fine by ICE standard and quite enough for every day driving.

    • @bertie1989
      @bertie1989 2 года назад

      @@whatever-xw8cw leasing a car is just throwing money down a drain though, most people are still wanting to own their cars or even PCP them - in these arena’s it is far more expensive for the equivalent electric version. I owned a Peugeot 308 for 18 months, in that time the engine blew up, the door seal melted because “it was too hot” (in Scotland) and literally everything failed in the snow (handbrake, abs, power steering etc) because “it was too cold” and yes this is genuinely what the garage told us when we took the car back on both occasions.

    • @whatever-xw8cw
      @whatever-xw8cw 2 года назад +2

      @@bertie1989 Leasing can be good or bad depending on the deal at hand. It does require that one can consider buying a car and replace it after three years though. If not it is not for you.
      I am sorry that you had that experience with your Peugeot. I live in Sweden so my vehicles have been operational in probably both hotter and colder weather than you have in Scotland, so that seems a bit odd.
      And to examine the leasing costs is a great way to compare the cost for EV vs ICE for the first three years, by the way.

      well... it is a comfort-oriented family compact/hatch, so fast 0-100km/h acceleration is not really its objective ;). and I can't find a reason why such a car should accelerate any faster. it's fast enough. besides... 9 sec to 100 used to be "hot hatch territory" not so long ago and there were even times when every sub 9sec acceleration meant "supercar" :P ! though I agree, it's definitely not "breathtaking" ...
      as for the alleged unreliability... I own PSA vehicles for the last 25 years (and are constantly in my family since 1976)... mostly Citroen, now Peugeot (currently 508SW II)... no major problem with any of them! and since there is constantly one present from times of Citroen GS onward I can tell you that I witnessed the progress of their build quality... which is especially after 2010 - enormous! (list of vehicles: GS, AX, ZX, C4 I, C2, 5008 II, 508SW II)
      I'm sorry you had such problems with your 308 (I guess it was Mk1), but my sister and my spouse had a bunch of serious problems with several generations of their A3 and A4, but I wouldn't call Audi unreliable because of it...
