Derek Grimmell's videos on Q v R are the most complete and thorough, anywhere. He's gotta make a chessable course on it, as some of us have suggested he do.
At 5:08, after ...Re7, we have in essence the structure of a third-rank defence but we are currently1 file nearer to the centre than with the standard third-rank setup. If this were a third-renk defence proper (with the BK already on the h-file at h5 and the BR on the f-file at f7), the right move for the WQ (who would be on g3, not f3) would be to move from g3 to d3, which creates various lines but all winning for White; see Derek Grimmell's analysis of the third-rank defence for how to win. So in the current position, the equivalent would be for White to play Q to c3. It may be that this is another way for White to set Black problems after ...Re7 as played in the video here.
2... Rd4+ is not good. Instead of moving the black pieces, why not let the computer pick the moves. In that position stockfish says the best moves are either 2... Re5, Re6, or Ke6. I tried several times and stockfish wont let me get your position at 1:18. Two times in a row I could get your position (from a random start position), but with the Queen touching the rook (and not the white King touching the rook).
Blacks initial move with 1...Re4 makes it easy (intuitive) to move the king to the edge as compared to if black had started with 1...Kd4 opposing the white king after which this method with three squares between queen and king along the same file does not work. Even after 2. Qe7 the best response is Re5. The moves described ensure that whites king shall always pressure the rook making it easy for the king to be pushed back which is not the case with best play
Very instructive video. Derek Grimmell's videos on Q v R are also quite thorough.
Glad it was helpful!
this video is awesome. been looking for a while for a good video showing postions before the philidor setup. this one is very instructive for me
Glad it helped!

Thank you! I've been looking for this everywhere!
Glad I could help!

It seems to place the queen a horse move from king is never a bad move, almost always correct right?
Thanks man

I'd suggest taking a look with tablebases and see what the fastest path is. It can be tricky.
This video helped me alot.
The best videos about this where I actually learned a lot is the guy Derek Grimell.

The only thing I struggle with is at 5:02 when black plays Ra8 and there are no forks for white
At 4:47, what if he plays ra5?
Good one !
Thanks ✌️
you have to be careful for pins , if black can pin you its a draw
Thanks Bobby!
where is part 2

Does not work against stockfish. He does not allow me to get that position.
You can look at a tablebase to help
