- Summer tires just do not work at all in the snow but will a set of 20+ year old snow tires work on a Porsche 993 911?

The symptoms of nicks logic summarized: he doesnt shovel his own driveway, he simply proceeds to drive out his most valuable and beloved lowered 993 cabrio with summer tires to take it for a ride in some of the worst weather. He gets stuck 15 feet in front of his house which theoretically should get the mouse on the wheel in his head moving and make him realize somethings wrong but thats not enough. He then whips out the jack in the same snow tripping and sliding about so he can change his least important wheels at the rear only with 21 yr old snow tires just to be safe and leave the ones at the front used to make sure you dont crash...cool. Any sane individual: we know this has been a massive failure so far, lets get inside have a tea and recollect our thoughts. Nick: looks perfect, lets go! The snowplow blocks him multiple times like the universe sent a guardian angel which is trying to smack him on the head to get back inside, so nick punches it out onto the street and barely makes it back driving down the street.
Man I love this guy. What a character. 😂😂
Hey now, our man is just trying to live life to the fullest!!
Wait... Nick only changed 2 out of the 4 tires to Winter?? Lmao no f*ks given
This is your best work in years. A real masterpiece. I almost can't believe you didn't put the top down.
6:03 WOW, that snowplow passing you on the right after you went wide to get into your driveway was infuriating! New England: pass everyone, all the time, at all costs. You must get in front.
I can confirm southern New England is a rat race, you compete for everything, much slower pace up here in Maine. Same for NH and VT (although southern NH is really just northern mass at this point).
It's not just New England. That sickness is nationwide.
You should try it in the South-East of England; MASS FURY
It looked to me like Nick was on the opposite side of the road and the snow plow likely didn't realize his intention.
Great to see you back Nick! We missed you (and William). Please share any info on future 992 allocations. Here in Montreal, I've been "first" on the list (like everyone else! 🤣) for 12 months now.😩
First , lol.
Honestly it will take 2 more years for a full pelt smooth production line. The 992.2 will be launched by end of 2024.
Yeah, good to see you back.
The 25th MONTH of 2001? Wow, 2001 was a longer year than I remember.
Oh, dude, 2001 was a very long year,… that is until 2020 beat it handily.
Should be 25th week
2020 and 2021 both felt about 25 months long. Thanks Covid19 and the dopey Jacinda Ardern led government.
Welcome back Nick. Hope you are bearing up ok. Best from 🇬🇧
You are looking well Nick. Hope you are ok. Take your time to heal. Best from 🇨🇦
Welcome back Nick! My condolence to you, and your family.
Welcome back, Its good to see you posting again.
Glad to see you back.
Cool video Nick! 01:07 I’m sure you meant to say 25th week of 2001! Cheers!
Glad I wasn't the only one that caught it. The 25th month of 2001 is in 2003 lol
Would have been a lot simpler if you shoveled the driveway first 😂
🏝🏝🏝Well he is from NZ - nuf said & he wouldn't have a video as a result❗❗
Great video Nick. Nice to see a video from you again. Thank you
Hey Nick! Hope you’re doing alright. 👌
Just wanted to join the chorus warning about the sketchy integrity of ancient tires. Old rubber can be crumbly. Learned that the hard way.
993 = The most beautiful 911 ever imo.
Great to see you back, Nick!
Welcome back, Nick!! We missed you!! Hope 2022 brings more exciting projects and just plain 'ol fun! Take care of yourself, mate :)
The ocd is strong with this one. Had an early Boxster with those wheels for 9 years and never noticed the twist direction
Very patient and cute pups. They look like they have learned to tolerate you.
Nick, brilliant advert for the all year round usability of a 993 C2… and for winter tyres! All the best
You made my day Nick. Welcome back..
Thanks Nick- great to see you and a 911 in the snow!
Mr. Plow came back a second time because he couldn’t believe some idiot was taking a 911 out in the snow! Lol. JK Nick. Cheers!
🎵“Mr Plow, that’s my name. My name again is Mr Plow”🎵
Somehow the algorithm knocked your videos off my radar some time ago as I’m just learning about your 993! Spectacular! I’m going to catch up on vids now. Cheers!
This is something I've always wanted to do. I've heard people say that a 911 with 4 snow tires is great in the winter and I'd love to try it out. Thanks for convincing me I don't have to!
Thanks for posting up some content Nick! Those ancient tires must have been screaming deal. The plow drivers were waiting to thwart your efforts for sure. Haa! Porsche winter donuts as a fresh topic. Carry on fellow Porsche enthusiast.
So glad to see you back Nick!
So good to have you back and hope you are doing ok. In snow its like this. Well....the best plans are most likely the ones with no plan at all. How fun, until its not!
Brilliant video, Nick! It helped while away a good 6 minutes or so here in the (non-snowy!) UK. I admire your dedication to science and showing that dates on tires are only advisory 😉
Nice to see you back doing your shenanigans.
I concur with everyone. It is good to see you posting again on your site.
Good to see you back on here Nick. More automotive silliness, that’s why we all love this channel. When you didn’t change the front tyres, I was thinking: “What could possibly go wrong?!” 🤣😂 Nick: “Braking and steering, I think that’s quite important.” 😂🤣
Welcome back Nick!
Quite a transition! From peak summer on the North Island in NZ to the mother of all winter storms!
Great video Nick, welcome back. I think that snow plow had it out for you.
I didn't think I'd enjoy this video so much! Brilliant and grateful I live in a desert now.
Nice work Nick. I drive my 991 Carrera in the winter too. I bought some remake turbo twist wheels with 4 Pirelli Sottozero snow tires. Runs like a dream in the snow. Good luck . Love your channel.
Great video and so sorry to hear about your brother man
Nick you reminded of my 7 years in N.J. many decades ago but looks like brunt of Nor’easter spared you, Smudge & Tui, it’s going to be 70 in Bay Area this week !
It seems like just last week you were on the beach what a shock to the system and I had the same problem with my Miata and summer tires when we got that freak storm a few years ago in early November I was stuck at work . That weekend I put my winter tires on and always well the Miata actually goes pretty good in the snow with winter tires.
Well done Sir Nick! Simple victories!!! Those snow plows seem rageful.
It was like the Movie "Duel" for a minute there.
Loved this video!!
Omg. The fact that you almost got into an accident with a snow plow TWICE during the same video.
Love that you don’t care and will drive your cars no matter what.
It is good see you back in the States! More silly car videos, please?
Brilliant! Not seen snow tyres actually fitted out in the snow before, and who ever knew "we need more speed" in snow was a thing, RESULT! I'm going to watch this again.
A Porsche, especially in this blue, looks so nice in the snow.
There's even a dog compartment under the passenger side of the dashboard. Those Porsche engineers think of everything!!
I love the cursing at the snowplows. My thoughts exactly!
I could be wrong but that "thingy" just in behind the snow tires look suspiciously like a snow blower?!?! Well it was nice to see the dogs again.
Nice to have you back Nick! Sorry about your brother.
Hey Nick, they have a new thing now that helps in removing snow. It's called a snowblower, You should look into getting one. Nice to see you back.
I have one!
Kiwi man make funny 911 joke.
Nice to see you
I got stuck once at work with summer tires on an M3 in a blizzard. Drove a half hour through hell and barley made it. Got the snows on that night! It does feel like skates
Welcome back Nick! Back to the road when it is the most exciting time to drive (I love driving in snow). Hope to see you driving a 992 C4S in the near future. A C4S is what you need in a weather like this. I wish I have got the balls like you to drive my C4GTS (summer tires only) when we had 50 cm of snow in Ontario about 2 weeks ago, that would be fun. Is there even winter tires for 21"/center-lock wheels?
You’re turning into TLG with these snow videos! Welcome to the club!
Wash your mouth
Great driving Nick ably supported by Smudge and Tui - looks a bit cold but older winter tyres seem better than summer tires in snow ❄️ for a rwd 911
Love your content
Welcome back. More Porsche and dog info.
LOL, that F'n snowplow was just trying to kill ya multiple times over Nick.
Nick get an impact gun and some sockets. You own 2 Porsches but remove lug nuts by hand 😂
Phenomenal!
Great to have you back, Nick . . . You should shovel the driveway . . . . just saying . . .LOL
Nick, time for a snow blower AND review of said snow blower🤔💡😇
☸ ❄⛄My studded winter/ice tires are 8 years old with 25K miles, aging results in the loss of oils/compounds that would have originally softened the rubber (softer rubber & siping helps facilitates better traction in the cold). 🎿⛷🏂I have noticed a significant loss of traction even though there is still a significant amount of tread depth left on the tire. Even with the loss of traction, they are still better than an All-Season tire & leaps and bounds better than a harder Summer tire with no siping.
Probably a BMW owner driving that snowplough!
I would love to see some more tests and comparisons, how much worse do tyres really get with age...
Hello from Norway Nick! We’ve had countless blizzards in the last two months and I can relate to your sending it up the driveway to enter the garage since I’ve sold my Taycan 4S and been driving only two wheel drive cars lately with not optimal winter tyres (5yrs). Your 20yr old winters must be what we call hockey pucks! 😂 Be careful!
Just like a bought one...Kiwi as Bro!
Just remember, tonnage rules! Watch out for the snow plows!
typical new englander driving on bald all seasons in the winter or in this case, 40 year old winters
Nick, you’re a funny guy. You may have misspoken. 2501 refers to the 25th week out of 52 of the year 2001.
Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Hey Nick, love your videos, the difference between the summer and snow tires was crazy, great job. I have a 17' C4 gts that is absolutely amazing in every way. But....I recently got a mint condition, black 97 carerra with a tiptronic. I obviously wish it was a 6 speed, what are your thoughts on the tiptronic?
and the F word gets a run too! Nice one Nick, welcome back to the world outside MIQ
Poor 993 :-(. If you mark the tyres not on the side but on the street faced outside, the chalk marks will diasappear when driving without you scrubbing it all off again
04:36 for Nick’s best impression of A Flock of Seagulls.
I am sure there is a wild story behind Nick burning off his left eyebrow.
We should all take pleasure in Nick changing tires in the deep snow outside his nice warm comfy garage. I am sure Continental and Michelin will offer to sponsor the channel after this snow show. Can you hear all of Canada laughing?
NIck, was the Porsche a 2-wheel drive? If so, please do a follow-up video on it on how it drives with all 4 snow tires. Thanks
Nick .... the snowplowman lolll
"No stopping or turning". Sounds like a Hitchcock movie.
I guess putting snow tires on while it is snowing makes things more fun.
Great to see you being hilarious again…..👍
im sure that snow plow driver was really impressed with you
Also, that's not a snow plow, that's a pickup truck with a silly little metal plate on the front. :D
Did you put those on correctly? I'm not 100% sure but those looked like directional tires with tread that should go one direction and the drivers rear tread looked backwards. I may be seeing things but thought I'd mention it. Welcome back btw!
At first I did have them back to front then noticed half way through 🤪
Those snow plows seem like more of a hazard than a help!
they're called plows because they'll plow throw anyone in their way
Love Michelin Nick!
Waaay too much cardio in this vid for me! 😄
25th "week" of 2001 nik.
Good on yer Nick, changing your wheels with an actual wheel brace instead of the youtube standard Milwaukee Rattle Gun, and energetically shoveling your own snow. Great fun!
Fresh set of winter boots Nick and you’ll be drifting around town like Sébastien Loeb.
According to Michelin:
1. Keep five years in mind
After five years or more in use, your tires should be thoroughly inspected at least once per year by a professional.
2. Ten years is a maximum
If the tires haven't been replaced 10 years after their date of manufacture, as a precaution, Michelin recommends replacing them with new tires. Even if they appear to be in usable condition and have not worn down to the tread wear indicator. This applies to spare tires as well.
All major manufacturers say the same thing. Twenty years is way too old, they should never have been sold to you.
Actually the wheels are worth more than the tires
LMAO 😂 The twin towers were still there when his winter tires were manufactured 😂 especially driving a car named 911
I didn't even catch that, great call👈
I once had a brilliant idea just like yours. But of course since I have a C4S it all went much better….no, no it didn’t. And yes, the neighbors were watching me, too.
Nick Murray is kinda guy that puts on seat belt while getting tickets for not wearing seat belt.
wow Nick, I wouldn't do that to 993 if I were you... I've bought a set of used snow tires in the past without knowing how to read the dates on them properly... A big mistake! They say you shouldn't run snow tires older than 5-6 years 'cause the silica compound in them dries up & harden. Therefore, no more grip (I don't know exactly who "They" are... LOL) so I got myself a brand new set of winter in the beginning of this season & I rear ended someone on first snow fall 'cause I couldn't stop in the snow. LOL there is no win. Let's all just drive safe. ;) Cheers!
It is clearly valid consumer information:)))!
Bet you wish you where back home rather than being in that weather. Lol
