  • Point Given walked through part of a record Travers crowd of more than 60,000, then ran away away from eight other 3-year-olds in the $1 million stakes Saturday at Saratoga.
"I still don't think you've seen the best of him," Gary Stevens said after riding the strapping chestnut colt to his fourth straight win in a Grade 1 stakes since his disappointing fifth-place finish as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby on May 5.
The victory by the homebred son of Thunder Gulch, owned by Prince Ahmed Salman of Saudi Arabia, was a major step toward Horse of the Year for the Preakness-Belmont Stakes winner.
"I think he's the best horse I've been around," trainer Bob Baffert said after Point Given's 3 1/2-length win over E Dubai. "He knows he's a great horse. He's cool."
"I think the better the competition the more's he's going to show," said Stevens, who has won three Travers, including the 1995 running on Thunder Gulch, who also won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont.

I love the "He's a little frisky"! He was as "frisky" as he was fast and just as hard headed as a horse can be. That said, such an incredible champion and competitor, one of Baffert's best ever. Watching that Big Red Train running you down couldn't have been a good feeling.

I'm taking Calculus. Now I know the math application of "Point Given." The point given is essential, and then you have to supply the skill, effort, and tenacity to find that other point.

Saw Spectacular Bid at Arlington as a kid.. dominant and amazing..if not for a dreaded safety pin. The 70's was a pretty damn great decade for racing..

Between him and Risen Star imo. Risen Star’s Derby trip was absolutely brutal and he did well to get up for third .

My honest opinion, although he did not win the triple crown. Point Given was the best horse Baffert ever had. I know this is saying a lot considering American Pharaoh and Justify winning triple crowns but the crop he ran against was really good and minus his Derby he was simply dominate.

Baffert also trained Silver Charm and Real Quiet who almost won the triple crown. His older horses included First Dude, Game On Dude, and Congaree. He's the greatest trainer in the past 30 years.
