Love the Kazoo! Took one to a luncheon once, started to play it at the table, and a lady sitting close by took her's out of her purse, and started playing along with me. Cracked up the entire restaurant! They are so handy. Had a police officer mistake one for a hash pipe once. Idiot! I played Stars and Stripes on it, then he gave up.
Hi Tracy, This brings back fond memories. I worked crew on this when I was a student at Brooklyn College and worked at the TV studio there. You impressed me with your talent, genuine warmth and relatability. Sad to learn that Joan passed away. She was a wonderful mentor. Sending you best wishes for continued success, Len Tobin
Wow, thanks for writing to me about this, Len! What a surprise. Thank you for your kind words. I adored Joan, so it was so sad when I heard she passed. Almost up until she died, she wrote me long, newsy letters. She got every drop out of life. She was so strong and energetic. Thanks for the work you did on these shows! Everyone is impressed by the quality... sound, picture, etc. You all did good!
Playing the kazoo while playing the guitar is a good trick. We may give that one a go. Been watching your videos. Those 1965 videos are a treasure trove. Glad we discover them. Always have loved folk. Stellaaa & Dave
haaaa OMG.. Tracy I have to tell you I had not heard of you nor did i know about this video you had in 1965! I was on the Gong Show (crazy crazy show) I taped my part on Oct 2 1976.. I had been gigging in clubs since 1969 singing and playing guitar. ... One one of my fav things to do at a gig if audience was in the mood for some fun. I'd put a my Kazoo in my blouse easy to access, and then play and sing SFBBlues. on the break in the song I'd then whip out my Kazoo and do an "instrumental" It was all very silly and very fun. I love playing Kazoo it's just a hoot (no pun intended) Anywayyyyyy for the GONG SHOW i decided to do that song and use the Kazoo etc since that show was totally Silly and I got a kick out of being on it. I also however had TAP SHOES on and while i was playing Kazoo and playing guitar I was tap dancing too. (well.. it' was sloppy tap dancing but again i was just going for the Visual and I had a ball. The host Chuck Barris (a strrrrange fellow himself) came up and beeped me on the nose with his finger !! while i was doing all this. Anyway I can't remember if he did that that during the rehearsal or while being filmed?? But again the whole experience was whacky fun. I've NOT seen any footage from the Episode i was on (Show # 99 that aired Oct 14 1976. No one had abilities to tape shows back then. so it's lost forever I guess (maybe that's a good thing??) HA. Anyway just wanted to share that! Fun to have landed on your footage here! I had a 55 yr career in gigging.. I'm 72 now.. I was STILL giging 2-3 nights a week 2020 then Covid struck and all Gig doors shut. I also go covid and coughed so hard it stripped my vocal cords! I can kind of sing now but only do an hour set at the most. SO I had to end my gig life a year ago. But twas a good run AND I've keep a journal since 1965 of my road in music . SO i better get that digitized or the ink and pencil will all fade in time ! Happy Holidays to you! Suzie! (Suzanne Shea Music dot com )
Thank you Suzanne. What a nice history lesson this is. I have so many friends who were seriously making a living from the Gong Show, by the way. I wish I had seen your show!
Amazing! ☺️ A kazoo never fails to make me smile... ✨ And I can't really play it for too long since it always makes me giggle (then laugh) the moment I start doing it because of how funny it sounds 😂
Love it! My kazoo came late in life (bought from Mozart's Birthplace shop in Salzburg, it seemed appropriate somehow), and a mad lyricist friend wrote me the Steinway Grand Kazoo! Kazoos rule!! Again, lots and lots of pleasure in these still totally fresh and delightful clips.
I did a show in 1965 called "What's New" for PBS on WNET in New York. I don't know how you found the video, unless you typed in San Francisco Bay Blues. I guess that would do it.
Hi Tracy 👋 I must ask you. Do you have Swedish ancestors or how did you learn swedish? I heard you said "Där satt den" when you finished your excellent performance. I was so surprised so I had to replay to know I got it correct. And yes, I did. I got a kazoo when I was a kid. Lost it many years ago or if I played it until it broke. I loved it. I'm 67 now so many years have passed. Maybe I should get myself a new kazoo.
Thank you, Kajsa! I said "I love that," at the end of the song. I don't speak Swedish and don't think I have Swedish ancestors, but... maybe I do! Pick up a new kazoo! This is just the right time to get back to it!

Not handy, actually. I looked it up and it's all over the place in C. I saw it in E, too, but not the way I do it. Essentially, this is what I would do: (E) I got the blues for my baby down (A) beside the San Francisco (E - E7) Bay, (A7) Ocean Liner, she gone so far away (E- E7 ) (A7) Didn't mean to treat her so bad, she was the (E) best gal I (G#) ever (C#7) had, (F#) Said goodbye, like to make me cry, (B7) I'm gonna lay right down and die. (E) Well, I ain't got a nickel and I (A) ain't got a lousy (E) dime, (E7) if she (A7) don't come back, I think I'm gonna lose my (G#) mind, If she (A) ever come back to stay, I'm gonna (E) find me a (G#) brand new (C#7)day, (F#) walkin' with my baby down (B7) beside the San Francisco (E) Bay. Something like that. I think there's an diminished chord in there, too, but I'm not sure what... Good luck! I hope there aren't a million mistakes in here!
@@SamSveistrup Yes. My guitar is tuned down a half step. I'm capoed in the second fret playing in E position, so it would be the key of F# but because I'm tuned down, I'm playing in the key of F, but in E position. Is that clear? I think you already figured this out, right?
