The watch shown in the video is for sale in my shop here: just-the-watch.myshopify.com/products/citizen-record-label-tsuno-chrono
This is one that I purchased for review, not to add to my own collection.
I received from my father my seiko 5 from 1985 as an inheritance. This watch has worked in civil construction for over 25 years and has never stopped working with pneumatic hammers, cement, grinders, drills, 15 kg hammers, water etc. and has never been served in a watchmaker, and it still works on my wrist, any day I will give it to my son. this is the essence of a watch, accompanying us in the good and bad moments of life. and not to be in a box! Afraid of spoiling it because it's very expensive and it has diamonds and it's made of gold! this watch is priceless because of the memories it carries!, this watch cost so little and offered so much!, why? because it was made to accompany us and not to take our money. it was not meant to be art, it was meant to be respected and admired for its robustness and competence. thanks and congratulations to your channel, i wanted to see a rolex last as long as this seiko!
You’re lucky - my dad has only a broken Armani to bestow me . . .
Alignment of the second hand, check if the watch can be place in “reset” mode. Cannot recalling it half or pull crown pull. Use the pusher to adjust the second hand position.
I was gonna say a lot of chrono have that function
even my cheap Swatch chronos have that feature :)
You should be able to reset that
Loved how you just dropped the Japanese language like that. Very impressive, and not an easy language from what I've been told. Super cool Dave, thanks for highlighting this piece!! Have a great day!! And God Bless!
Citizen calibre 0510 has been around since the 90s if not 80s... one of few quartz chrono that can time up to 12hrs... nice to see it 'resurrected' in this vintage reissue~ :D
this is a missed chance. would love to get it with the ECO drive
So true. It looks awesome and the size is perfect, but almost $400 for mineral crystal, 50wr and no eco-drive is a bit too much. Maybe the microbrands are spoiling us.
@@andreimadasov4955 exactly! ...yeah lets just look at Zelos for example. Things you can get for 360€.... i recently even purchased a hommage watch from SAN MARTIN, which i would have never imagined a year ago. Again it shows what you can get to enjoy for your money
You’re correct, I don’t have a bullhead in my collection but I might need to get this one. Nice video, thanks.
Nice to see Citizen coming up with some desirable looking heritage pieces, but the movement's inability to line up to its markers (or probably more accurately, the poorly aligned second hand) is dreadful! It makes me wish I would have snapped up a vintage Citizen bullhead when they weren't much more than this one. It would be a great one to look for on the used market (the only way to purchase Timex reissues, in my opinion, but it'll probably be scarce here in North America. Still, a lovely looking piece. Thanks for another great video!
Another benefit of the 12 hour totalizer is the ability to keep track of a second time zone by starting it at 12:00 in that time zone
Hadn't thought of that, neat
I like the Bull Head Reissue look. My Seiko quartz chrono can be reset and adjusted to line up with the marks. Is that possible with this watch? Pull the crown out like you’re gonna change the time and hold down the left pusher until the hand you want to adjust moves then use the right pusher to adjust the hand. Maybe, hopefully.
I believe that's possible with any fully quartz chrono movement. Only meca-quartz movement has to be taken to the watchmaker if it's misaligned. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
I love the part when you hop into the passenger seat of your car.
I'm in Tokyo right now and hunted high and low for this watch and couldn't find it. I'd given up until just yesterday I was in a department store nearby Yurakucho station and found it in their modest (by Japanese standards) watch department. They had a good selection of them including the star wars one's. Tempting as it was to buy them all up at only ¥24,000 each, I opted for the white dial. Yeah I love it. It's a happy little thing. After seeing the issue with the chrono hand alignment I checked mine and it's perfect all the way around.
Dave,
I'm very glad you reviewed this one! Been wanting a bullhead for a long time, and wondering how this reissue would compare to the original.
My primary complaint is that they - and Detroit Mint - refuse to properly place the day and date vertically at the 6!
That alone is enough for me to feel sure I'll hold out for a good deal on a vintage piece.
Hi Dave, thanks for the review. An alternative is the Detroit Mint Mach Bullhead. I picked one up last year. Again inspired by the same film, I think it uses the same movement, great specs and build quality. Cheers
I like how you honestly put the cons and pros here, like there are more affordable Citizens for the price and specs (and of course other brands) out there. But if you really wanna go for this bullhead look which got famous now 'cause of that Tarantino movie, this is it.
I like the bullhead design a lot, and the bund strap makes it even more cool retro looking. But for that price I think I'd go for another Citizen or another brand/model. It's a nice looking watch though, considering the details on the dial etc.
Citizen jumping on the retro wagon! Cool!
Eco-drive would have been a better choice. Making it an automatic with the day/date at the 6 would have been legendary. I own two of the modern re-issues. Fantastic watches.
Great vid as always Dave. A 12 totalizer is SO much more valuable than the ridiculous 24 hour dial. I hate superfluous gadgetry. At dang near 70 my spelunking days are as far behind me as my last trip to outer space (couldn’t tell day from night there either 😭) but as an old SAR Pilot with the Texas CAP I can sure use a 12 hour totalizer. Let’s see, engine crank 35 minutes ago and a burn rate of 5 Gal per Hour (& a 20 Gal capacity) means I have 3 hr & 25 minutes of actual flight time. The 12 hour totalizer will literally keep you alive. 24 hour dial will tell you exactly when (it breaks at the moment you auger in) you exhausted all your fuel the day before! 🤣🤪☠️😝💀👻
Video was worth the wait. This case style is not for me but I can totally see the appeal. Another great vid Dave.
I have an homage bullhead chrono from Detroit Mint. It has a miyota quartz movement and comes highly recommended.
I have one and I think it's extremely mediocre. Nothing good or bad about it. The Opel Astra of watches, that one.
@@StuntpilootStef I don't know what an Opel Astra is, but my Detroit Mint chrono has a fastback Ford Mustang on the case back. Wooderson can explain what I mean: ruclips.net/video/3d-OVlIYpuQ/видео.html
@@dougstinnett2581 You're missing the point, I'm making an analogy. An Opel Astra is a car for people who don't give a damn about cars. And so everything is meh, just like the watch. The case is meh, the bracelet is meh, the strap is meh, the dial is meh and especially the movement is meh. I mean, it has a tachymeter that cannot be used as a tachymeter, because the chrono second hand only registers whole seconds.
It's an ok watch, but that's about it.
@@StuntpilootStef You are missing the point. I understand your analogy, and I responded to your analogy with sarcasm.
@@dougstinnett2581 That's incredible arrogant and narrowminded of you.
You reading the Japanese was really awesome, caught me off guard for some reason. I love the watch!
Nice watch Dave, I suppose it's more about looks than function here. It does have a nice vintage look. Excellent intro too. Did you have to buy the jacket ?😉
Some quartz chrono you could adjust the hands by pulling the crown out eather first or second position then press the buttons to adjust the hands. worth a try. I love the looks of the watch. To bad they are quartz only.
yep, was gonna say the same 😁 I think the Citizen Aqualand series has that function.
I have a Citizen chrono with hand calibration, but it only works in one second increments.
Hi Dave, after seeing this video I had a friend visiting Japan to get me the orange dial version. It came back and I love it, but it's tiny. I have also ordered a bund strap hand made and stitched here in Turkey to make it look a bit more butch. I was thinking of selling it but I came to the conclusion that there is something I have to do which I've been resisting for 5 years; get a pair of reading glasses😢. Keep up the good work.
Bit too much for too little I think. You might be better off with a Detroit Mint Bullhead. As usual, good video, thanks.
I have Detroit Mint Bullhead in my collection ;-)
@@mariahelenapereiradacosta6118 Really? I've come so close to acquiring one on a few occasions. What do you think of it?
@@Plexcom60 I discovered 'Detroit Mint' through the "Mach" Bullhead Chronograph (purchased); this watch has the case and dial that made me remember my old 1972 AQUASTAR SEATIME I lost in the early 90's while sailing. I am enjoying it every minute since last year when I received it :-) The guarantee provided, kind of different of what we are used to here in Europe (EU). But Dave, the owner, is a quick responder.
You certainly know how to get me to click on a video!
Gotta play that RUclips algorithm game!
Citizen and Bulova disappoint on their re-issues - they have some great designs then never offer a higher end automatic or manual wind version. Mineral crystal? Cheap quartz? Bulova at least uses their high beat in the Lunar Pilot.....but, they should have offered an actual mechanical as was the original.
Agreed. And it’s not like they don’t have the movements too. Watch them release an auto limited edition at 6k next year 🤣
I can't agree more ... It's beyond Frustrating ! 😞
Go look up Citizen Series 8 and their new Caliber 0200
Agreed. I bought the Bulova MIL-SHIPS and lume is weak/low but price tag.
@@hathaway.1166 Yes, they are very nice. Would like to see the reissues with at least a standard mechanical movement that has excellent accuracy if not their new Caliber.
Very impressive piece the blue is incredible 👍👍I'm looking to purchase this piece very soon, love everything about this piece..thank you for reviewing this citizen my couple tea..
I dig that hoodie!
Great looking watch. Love the reissues we are getting at the moment. Great video love the music
Just ordered one. Should arrive next week.
its a reply nice watch, just wish they can remove both Quartz & WR50 to make it pleasing to the eye. The date too...
This has to be one of the coolest designs, it's masculine, understated but classy
Gorgeous watch. It may have been the angle of filming. It appeared the second hand was not lining up with some the indicators. That being said. Taking the affordable price and quartz movement it hasn't turned me completely away from wanting one. I'll have to get one in hand to pass judgement properly. Thank you
Great review Dave! Thanks for sharing pros and cons. Appreciate that.
Excellent review, now I need to decide whether to get the white or blue dial. More power to your reviews.
These *are* available in Australia. My panda is in the post somewhere between Sydney and Melbourne (checks mailbox, sighs). It's going on a AliEx mesh that cost $20 - seems about right.
Nice review! Tempting for sure, especially with a white dial. ( date won't stand out as much too...)
This is beautiful and unique and most importantly affordable so people can actualy buy it.. And as others have said, you should be able to adjust the seconds hand if yiu check the manual..
I have the original yellow but it runs great and its automatic
I love the look of this watch!!! But not being automatic or even eco-drive for the price is disappointing. I may pick it up if it goes on sale in the future. This reminds me to get around to watching that movie...I'm a big Tarantino fan.
Not auto nor eco, mineral crystal, 50m wr, folded links. Terrible release.
Love it absolutely !!!
Gotta love Citizen. 👏
From 'Once Apon A Time In Hollywood' I believe!
Yay, they even reissued their 80s' Analogue/Digital. Casio Royale is getting competition. Not in price though.
I just saw this at Costco last night!
Well... a QC issue right outta the gate; no sale here if the second hand ends up not hitting its mark.
I'm very tempted by the panda version. Thanks Dave.
Ha, you wear yours much better dan Brad !
Great vid.
Detroit Mint makes another homage to this watch. Comes with a cuff strap.
Bwahahaha... I always thought the hysterical Japanese descriptions of things in English were ill-fitting translations or just nice sounding words tacked on to one another. Never occurred to me they began like that in the vernacular!
Let's have pleasing sweet feel review nice for good benefit & helping fish
Hey just an idea but you could just align the second hand. Its very easy to do
I would have been SUPER interested in this style chrono if it had an EcoDrive movement. I keep wanting to add a cool EcoDrive to my collection.
There is a 45 mm size Eco drive iteration - Citizen Eco-Drive AV0071-03A Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer Bullhead Retro Watch, buts it 3 times the price. However its hand assembled.
Dear Dave, you promised, you delivered! 😃 you made my day, defenitely on my list for Christmas! Could you tell us from which web site can we order it here in Europe? Greetings from Brussels, L
Google is your friend.
Very true 👍
Oh that's nice! The second hand needs alignment, though.
Nice watch. A mechanical or mecha-quartz might interest me more. Good vid. Keep at it!
I was looking at the automatic one, NH8390-71 and considering getting it for review as well.
My Black and Green one arrived yesterday :) looks great although not a good as the original, my Chrono is aligned :)
That's a good looking watch. 👍 👍 👍
The numbers on the chapter ring seem slightly off centre to the markers. I like the style and look, good lume and a reasonable price
Nice little Audio Adrenaline Easter egg there 😄
Shocked by that Second hand's movement. (After reading comments) Oh, you may be able to adjust that Second hand.
Nice watch. Only three drawbacks are a small size, non-smooth second hand and lack of eco drive. If Citizen could fix those I would snap it up.
That watch and its sister are available in Australia.
Did u try to reset the chrono hand? I have the original. It’s very close! Nice review
Great looking watch. Only problem is, they are selling for $350 in the US.
Really Nice Hoodie!
The seconds off the markers never used to bother me, but I must say it does now.
On a regular 3 hand quartz watch it’s probably not a big deal. But on a chronograph it means the complication doesn’t work.
Coming in Nov is the re-release exactly as it is on Brad Pitts wrist....gold case and leather cuff, for an addition $200.00. Looks great.
Great video as always 👍🇬🇧🍻
My 2 biggest gripes are no EcoDrive and that black bezel. ick
Cool & cheap! Thanks Dave 👍🏻👍🏻
Can anyone recommend a reputable site for buying JDM watches from the UK?
Is it bad the first thing I noticed that really stuck out was 1) the hand misalignment (which should be able to be reset) and 2) The fact you own a Zune! Does it still work? I'm curious
It does!
That's a really nice purchase! Channeling Brad Pitt 😎
That black strap. Do you now where we can buy it from? And the name of it please?
I must say - "Detroit Mint" homages look much more .. "authentic" - but.. nevertheless - good that Citizen did re-issue..
No offense, but Detroit mint's version doesn't even compare to citizens re-issue, It's way bigger, case shape is way off with sharp edges and the dial layout doesn't even have the date. I have both and the Citizen quality is way better. And the Citizen only cost $50.00 more. 🤷♂️
@@watchluver I hope we can agree on the different tastes. I, to my regret, have not had a chance to compare those 1:1 - would love to see such detailed view.
@@MareksMatisons yes sir! I shouldn't have come across sounding so defensive... they are both nice timepieces but I happen to prefer the Citizen model..
Cheers!
Anybody know the battery it takes, and i looked at case back didn't see a notch to open don't want my batty to die on me.
Looks dope!
It definitely looks the part. But the specs just cut the legs out from under it for me.
That chrono second hand - it can't be adjusted/realigned with pushers, can it? Some movements allow you to do it when you pull out the crown.
Hmm. Getting access to all the JDM watches not available elsewhere is de facto a reason to move to Japan.
Interesting watch. Too bad about the seconds hand being pretty badly misaligned. Love Audio Adrenaline! I wish they were still around.
I was sure brad put wore Seiko bullhead
This is okay but for over $200 I would expect the alignment to be a bit better as you mentioned in the video and I would've expected Citizen's eco-drive instead of the common battery powered technology. The metal braclet that comes with the watch doesn't look like it belongs with the watch itself. The leather strap you put on this watch was definitly a necessary upgrade. I really enjoyed your thorough review, which is a staple of your channel, but I don't see this watch making it to my collection.
I just couldn’t drop that kind of money for that watch. Maybe $85. I like the strap!
Great stuff. I really like that they didn't go for a super high quality and high price rip off. It is an affordable quartz piece that might not be the best value, but it has something most expensive watches even lack, style and heritage. Great way to reintroduce this style, it might be a cult watch of the future too.
very good review!
The misalignment would drive me nuts. Very nice styling though.
Can you review the limited edition begin one?
This watch is just cool!
I have 4 of the high spec. limited editions. 3 times the price but a lot more watch for the money.
I wouldn't bother with this version and I'm a citizen watch fan!
I think citizen were surprised by the interest in the re-issue of the bullhead design but couldn't produce any more of the european versions because they had designated them as limited editions of 1973 pieces each model number. The only way round it was to reproduce versions of the original 1970s watch as featured in the film with Brad Pitt.
Just goes to show, even Japanese marketing gurus make mistakes.
Nice looking but sad that the seconds don’t line up.
Looks good
Dave, I noticed the chrono hand didn't reset to zero. Is there a procedure to realign the hand?
Great video!
Very cool release but why quartz.
£750 English pre owned from India now huff someone has seen the potential future clasic..
best part of the video 2:24
What's your wrist size? Thanks for the video!
