This watch is actually a homage to the Seiko 6138-004 Bullhead chrono and the Seiko bracelet was called a Fishbone.

As I recall from reading about the fishbone style bracelet it wasn't very comfortable... Never tried one though.

I saw an ad for pants and they actually had "fart wind" coming from the model's butt. They were some kind of weird "tactical" cargo pants. One of the strangest things I've seen in ages.
Definitely a homage to a Seiko 6138-004 Moo. (I have one!) Even the same brown and gold colour scheme. The Seiko has the counters on the horizontal axis with vertical day/date at 6. The aesthetics of the Seiko are awesome! Having said that, this is not a bad homage but would be way cooler if the chrono counters were on a horizontal axis. Even so, it's rather tempting to get a blue or green version

Agreed! As I mentioned above, I’m considering buying one as I don’t like wearing mine (same as yours, that ubiquitous 70s Brown, lol) very often for fear of damage, much as I love the look. It isn’t mint, but it’s close to excellent and I’d like to keep it that way and the height makes it easy to bang off door jambs and the like.
I agree that it would have been nice to have the sub dials on the horizontal, and even nicer if they’d replicated the ‘squared circle’ shape of the ones on the 0040.
However, that won’t stop me from buying one, it’s still a good looking watch and a very inexpensive mech-chrono.
Looks like a Seiko Bullhead homage with the small dials at 12 and 6 rather than 3 and 9. The metal strap is also a homage. I really like it! Now if Red Star could homage a Pogue!!!! That’d be freaking awesome!

Went to see Carry On London at one of the west end theatres in the 70s with most of the usual Carry On crew (including Sid James). It was dreadful!
Super retro as you say, got this movement in the Sugess chrono, lov❤e it On this model you have to go for the seventies tastic brown.
I got mine recently from Poljot in Germany. I paid quite a lot as I got stung for VAT but they do at least provide a proper two year warranty. It's become one of my favourite top three. Interestingly they've just released the same bullhead case without pushers with the NH34 GMT movement which looks very tasty.
I must admit, this Bull Head is my favorite in your collection! Good video!
Thanks Jody, had my eye on this one. But of a nostalgia fix for me, I bought an original back in the 70’s, it was a great watch but working as an apprentice welder at that time it was just a magnet for spatter, and I think it only lasted 4 or 5 years. So maybe I’ll get myself one and relive my misspent youth albeit with a walking stick 🥴👍🏼
Hello Jody! Thank you for the review. I just purchased the GMT PEPSI version of this watch, for many reasons: it's a "bullhead" (without the extra Chronograph horns), it's a PEPSI bezel (which I don't have in my collection), and has a Seiko NH34 GMT movement, which is super reliable and cost effective. I also find the watch to be well finished and that it wears well on my 7.1" wrist, due to the undercut lugs and short length.
One thing to note about the GMT version: the GMT 0-23 (or 1-24) chapter ring is misaligned. Almost any 4-hand GMT watch will have the "0" (or the 24) marker start at the 12:00 o'clock position, so that if you have trouble seeing the chapter ring numbers when reading the 2nd time zone on the with the 4th hand (say in the dark, or if you don't have your reading glasses on), you can simply "double" the main "o'clock" markers to get the 2nd time zone.
But REDSTAR has chosen to start their fixed 0-23 GMT chapter ring (in their case, 0 = partial moon symbol) at the 1:00 position! So if you align the 4th GMT hand with the misaligned chapter ring, you can't simply double the o'clock marker to get the GMT time. Your have to double then subtract 2 hours.
I contacted REDSTAR, and after a long message exchange, they finally claimed the misaligned chapter ring was NOT misaligned, rather that it was a "design choice" based on "ancient Chinese heavenly stems and earthly branches." LOL.
I think it would have been easier for them to simply admit they screwed up the chapter ring alignment.
Other than the misaligned 0-23 GMT chapter ring, I do like the watch. But I think I will return it as once you see the misaligned 0-23 GMT chapter ring, you cannot unsee it.
I oredered the same watch as prices seem to be pretty good right now, especially considering there's a Seiko NH34 movement inside. To be honest I think it's a design choice and not a misalignment indeed. The whole watch is weird and quirky and not like any other GMT on the market, just look at the design. And let's be fair, how often will you need to check the GMT time in the dark ? Anyway, as long as it isn't dark there also is no problem since you can check the GMT time with the chapter ring.
I have a Citizen Tsuno bullhead and it's one of my favorites, love the bullhead style.
The luminous word nails luminate for a respectacle duration but it's too bad that the time fingers don't follow tuxedo.

When I see this morning's offering I was very excited, I've been looking at Bull heads on and off for a while as I do fancy adding one to the drawer. The look and price of this got me interested and combine that with Sid James I thought this was the one. Unfortunately I think there were just a few too many negatives, mainly the steam driven movement but also the Red Star branding is not of the moment. Thanks for a great review.

Please keep this theme going, when you can. I think the retro part of Chinese watches will continue to grow. Hopefully we see more Merkur, Red Star and Escapement Time and new brands doing simple, eyecatching manual wind watches. Hopefully the Glashutte Seventies, as well. Now if you could review that beauty. 🏆

Seiko needs to bring back the auto-chrono Bullhead and Pogue, especially since they've been bringing back a lot of their back catalogue divers in recent times

That cow head facial skeleton is exquisite, the best I've seen so far on any watch. TBF It's still a nice wee watch
It’s intriguing but odd at the same time. The case is not symmetric in height nor design. And rectangular sub-dial exasperate the issue further.
I almost bought this watch. I think it looks awesome on ur wrist and it fits perfectly. I saw the homage seiko watch and it had the day and date on it and that was nice. This Red Star watch isn't a joke 2 me. Thx 4 the video Jody.

The bullhead design looks weird to me but its probably more practical, less likely to break the pushers as happens on a Moonswatch or dig into your wrist.

Oh, yeah, there are _two_ different Citizen bullhead chronographs and I've only seen a review of one on your channel. I'd love to see a review of the more expensive Promaster bullhead.
Ha! When I saw your title on this video I was shocked! I actually beat you to the punch around 3 months ago when I bought mine. I was afraid that you were going to trash this one, and I felt bad for you. THEN I watched the video. Thank goodness you & I still have the same taste in vintage homage watches! I have bull head in blue and it really is quite beautiful. It wears just like you'd think on the extra strap, a little lopsided and fussy. Back on the fish bone bracelet and it sits a bit more central on my wrist. Thanks for pointing out many positives, especially the swan neck adjustment, this sold me on this one.

I like it. The bracelet looks similar to the "fishbone" that would be on a seiko bullhead.
Being a lefty (watch on the right wrist) bullhead-type is more ergonomic for me. I suppose it is a genuine Seagull mech inside, case appears sturdy and I guess the only embarrasment is that Chinglish in the ad. When judging about the value, check the price! I would personally like "red star" written in Chinese characters. Also, a good overview of Seagull 1963s on that AliEx page.
hi Jodie ,long time subscriber ,just wanted to give you my xeric watch experience ,just took delivery of the xeric leadfoot ,loved the look and thought it would be an ideal watch for my 60s muscle car jollys ,i had an email about a customs charge ,i am in the uk and expected to pay something so i wanted to check with xeric as the charge had no relevance to a watch and i wanted to be sure it wasn't a scam email ,the lady from xeric confirmed it was for the watch but also said to be prepared in case the watch arrived with dead batteries for the two small quartz movements ,it did arrive dead ,i was so disappointed that it hadn't been sorted before dispatch that i have returned it and asked for a refund ,the manual has no information on battery change and seeing pictures of the case back removed there is no access to the quartz movements ,i was offered some money towards getting the batteries changed ,but certainly i think the local timpsons would not have touched the watch because of it not being straightforward .,i was also asked to return the watch marked on the customs label as being broken with no value ,guessing so they wouldn't have to pay any import duties ,i feel very let down and won't be buying another xeric

Have you gotten your hands on any Chinese special patek nautilus homages? There's a bunch of options, even an Pagani with a seagull auto in it. Basically nothing on RUclips, so it could make for a pretty good video!

I also bought the Citizen, which as you noted was a tad small! I agree. But I put my white dial version on a black bund strap & it changed the look 100%!😍 I’m trying to wean off AliExpress but ya make it bloody difficult!😈👍🏻🤣

The bullhead went well with bell bottom pants, tight shirts with long collar tips, big sideburns, and when girls were friendly and John Travolta was the greatest star on the planet. Those who lived through that era can never forget it.

so what we have here is "vintage old stock". Old movement, rattily bracelet with a pressed clasp, poor lume, mineral glass. BUT what a looker
Now you mention it all my chronographs are on straps, well all but 1. 😂all on leather straps except for my Tissot it’s on a shark mesh, that’s a strap though not a bracelet.
I almost pull the trigger on this one just by the cool look. However the mineral crystal and aluminium bezel turn me off. The price is not cheap neither, would rather get 1963 chrono with sapphire and gooseneck with the price.

I have never worn a bullhead chronograph but I can't help but think they are actually more practical, because the pusher locations fall easier to hand than the pushers on the side of the case, especially using the thumb to brace the case itself.
I'm wearing a standard Chrono now and I have to twist my right wrist 90 degrees whereas with a bullhead I'd be able to leave my hand in a natural position.
Admittedly this does put the crown at 12 which is odd, but also freaking cool 😎
The watch is 3mm too wide and for no water resistance,too thick. The chinglish blurb however is classic and needs framing for future generations.
