Yes it can be too big for certain people but for me that oversize feeling is part of the charm. I'm now a volunteer on mainstage 1 every year. Oh and fun fact the guy you see walking in the crowd in that video at 1:34 is me.
First Hellfest in 2014... and in 2023 it will be my 7th ! Same as you, i can say that Hellfest changed my Life coz' i've seen so many amazing bands there. What I prefere is to be surprised by an unknown band which I will listen to it all year long after this gig. Hope to see you there next June ! \m/
I have one question Wyatt : apart from GOJIRA that you mentionned in the video, did you discovered some great french bands that you never heard before Hellfest ?
13:09 "you'll never feel more free from society than at a metal festival" Bet you feel waaaay more free from society in the woods than in the lines of the fest..... Awesome video, thanks for sharing, much respect...!!!
What timing of your video. I landed in Houston last night and attending Hells Heroes fest today. I decided to expand and travel for fests. I’m pretty much giving up on Aftershock to have any good metal bands and the fest is 15 min from my house. Between this and your Waken video I’m definitely adding Hellfest to my list for sure and 70k. Another awesome video
Hey, in 2023 the map changed a bit, Valley is now near Warzone ! This year was fabulous, see you there next year maybe for a couple of beers metal friend ? I'm 54 and I'll keep going there until I'm unable.
I'm french and my aunt used to work in music festivals and this one in particular, she gave me staff shirts and some of the official shirts she had which made my way to metal around 13 yo typing down the bands that were on the back lol I'm 19 now and thinking to actually go there one day :)
I was a band tour driver, hellfest is nuts. 2 visits so far, 2023 driving machine gun Kelly, not quite the band for the H fest but hay'o. It's the best gig I ever seen.
I went to Hellfest in 2015 and 2018. I was blown away by how professional and well organized everything was. Hellfest is a big ammusement park. In 2015 I stayed in the easy camp, it was luxurious, I loved it. In 2018 I got the ticket late so I stayed in Nantes but took the train to Clisson that ran every 15 minutes. Luxury. I went to Wacken in 2017. Mud, mud, mud. I prefer Hellfest.
Haven’t been to this festival. Maybe I’ll go someday. The weather seems good. Not a fan of the rain. Though I remember they have festivals year round in Europe. I remember seeing a winter metal festival being advertised.
Craving live metal hard the last 3 years, and I've only seen a few shows this year that all left me rather unsatisfied. I'm sure my fellow metalheads know that feeling when you just need something more. Bigger, louder, and more of your headbanging brothers and sisters to rock out with and have a great fucking time 🤘 I haven't been to a big outdoor festival yet, but I've kept my eyes open for the ones I really want to go to. Top 5: Wacken. Hellfest. Download. Rock am Ring. Resurrection Fest. Not sure when I'll be able to finally go, hopefully in the next year or two.. But yea, 3-4 days of all things metal? Sign me UP. Can't fucking wait to scratch that itch man!
Wow dude Hellfest sounds a whole lot better than Wacken, from what you said in your video about it. Guess I'll add adding Hellfest to my bucket list. Also seeing Gojira in September, their music is on another level!!
I've been to both. Hellfest feels like a luxury trip. TGV to Nantes, local train every 15 minutes to the festival town, great weather, no mud. The extreme metal stages (temple and alter) are both in adjacent tents, so I spend the whole time in the shade. I love it
Man, I have to go abroad to festivals.. I've never left the UK in my life but this sounds amazing. A couple stages that just has all the black or doom bands all day so I don't have to run around from stage to stage to find them?! Sounds lovely... 😅
I went in 2019 and 2022. First year I tried the easycamp cardboard box. It was convenient to fly across the pond with just a carry on bag but it was nearly impossible to sleep in the cardboard tent. As soon as the sun comes up (usually an hour after finally getting to sleep) it gets too hot and stuffy in there and you're pretty much up for the day at that point. 2022 I decided to rent a campervan and it was a great decision. It's pretty much just as expensive (100 euro a day I think) as doing a hotel. It had an outdoor shower, fridge, stove, cassette toilet.. Also the Leclerc cleared out grassy areas for people like myself to camp in vehicles. It was a quick walk up the hill to get booze and groceries I could cook on the vans propane stove. I spent almost no money at the concession stands, ate drank, and slept like a king all week. The van also was a lifesaver because (like other people) I got heatstroke on one of those 100 degree days. Luckily I could just go back to my van, turn the engine on and crank the AC while I rehydrated with a drink from the fridge.
@@wyattsmetal I used Indie campers in Paris and rented the Mercedes Marco polo which is perfect for 1 or 2 people. Plus last year with there being a couple of days in between Hellfest weekends I got to drive around and explore France. I'm actually shopping for a van so I can build my own camper since I travel around the US so much going to metal festivals
Me and my friends got a very different taste of music. So, for about 20 years I went to festivals with them wich has a wide variety of music. And we simply stayed in the Netherlands too. Things changed, they didn't want to go to a music festival any longer, because they got kids to care for. And so I deceided in 2019 to go to a metal festival in Germany -alone. Covid happend, but then I went to Rock Im Park last year - and it was a blast! I also went to a small festival in the Netherlands, it's called Jera on Air and is more of a punk/hardcore festival. This year I'll be going to Copenhell in Denmark, and back to Jera on Air as well. For next year I'll defiatly keeping my eyes out for Hellfest!
My first 2007 mud and 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and last 2018 because after Sold out. But it's my favorite big festivals. After I prefere the medium and small festival. Good video
Been there this year (my second time at the festival) and It was so freakin crowded ! Like, 3 times the people that were in there in 2019! It was kind of scary.
I was lucky to bag a ticket for 2024 and I'm super excited! Only concern is, will there be much of a language barrier? How much will it impact socialising or getting about?
Been there in 2007/2008 and 2012, it's sure have more soul imo than the other massive festival I went to (graspop for exemple) still those days I prefer festival with smaller audience and the Hellfest become quite expensive (I'm not saying it doesn't worth any penny but it's quite a budget). I still cherish the memory of the time I had there. I assume you are a non french speaker, was it easy for you on that side? I know that may be difficult sometimes.
Would love to go to Hellfest once, just for the experience. However it's always the same date as Graspop in Belgium (would love to see your opinion on that festival btw) and seeing how that festival is approx 45 min from my home and usually the line up is kinda similar... Still, as far as full Metal experience, it seems to be one step beyond anything else.
I love the idea of genre dedicated stages. 2012 in Wacken they had like 5 black metal bands (and I need to include Dimmu and Cradle of Filth here 😂 ) and of these 2 Norwegian bands, Gehenna and Dimmu were scheduled at the same time. Dimmu made the decision easy by bringing a full orchestra and choir so I really couldn't skip it and the stages were too far away to even split it to watch a part of each gig...😢
@@jenssuperkalifragelistisch4488 huh? Because extreme metal festivals exist, it's smart schedule planning by Wacken to have 2 Norwegian black metal bands play at the same time?
It's my dream, this year I think I will try to buy a ticket through resale page that Hellfest shared. I'm a bit scared of going alone, I wasn't scared at 19 going alone for festivals abroad, and at 26 for some reason I feel like I can't have fun alone 😅
@@bazookaman1353 hmm.. Personally I've had good experiences with traveling alone, even as young woman. What has changed is that at 17 to 20 I was going mainly for bands. Now it is more about whole experience, vibe let's say. As privileged I am having over 30 paid vacation days, I'm not earning in euros, sooo Hellfest is around 3 whole paychecks, and I also wouldn't want constantly thinking how much I can spend- that's not relaxing 😅 I know Hellfest is worth it, but adult in me is cautious with spending that much in current economy 😹
@@oliwia.black757 I don't know where you are located but I can tell you that festivals in Italy are much, much cheaper, although smaller in scale and mainly focused on folk and folk metal music (especially in the north). If you are on a budget you should try to consider it!
Just come back from Hellfest to the uk. My 6th hellfest,.wouldn't go anywhere else. I haven't been to download festival since hellfest. Crowds are nowhere as busy as they look. Pretty easy to get around the arena. I went from arena to camp and back in 40 mins to off merch I bought. The only downside is the heat but hellfest help you cope! People walk around camp with water sprayers to cool you down. This year luckily it only hit 30 degrees, last Yr it was around 40 and unbearable but we survived!
I attended the 7 days last year, shit was real crazy but god I was exhausted at the last wall of death and pits I went in. (Also, I blacked out Metallica because of drinking wayyyy too much rhum which is really sad). There are plenty of things to be said about its organisation, but as for every single festival in the world, and yes I think it's really well organised for its size. What is often criticized though, is the fact they sell tickets before even revealing the line up. And it's expensive AF, but then not many festival bring such a line up, so it's kinda understandable (Metallica took 4 millions last year xd).
Still havn't been to hellfest, but it is deffiently on the list! And if you havn't been to Brutal Assault, then check it out because that line up is insane!
What's the price for a ticket and other stuff? Would have been nice if you could include it because Hellfest gets sold out so quickly every year that there's no way to know a current price for ticket/better camp for me xD
That is awesome. Makes me wish I was healthier and had good mental health and was richer too. I love the fact that they take their heatwaves seriously, have a pool, places to cool off etc. Did they charge for water bottles or is that what the fountains are for?
To the people that actually slept in the cardboard tents..... Do you mind shareing what the price was for that? This festival is on my bucket list and that is one of the most unique camping options I've ever seen
I would not recommend it. I haven't been to Hellfest but they had the same setup available at Metaldays a few years ago. It rained pretty hard one day and a lot of them were mostly collapsed after one storm. Plus they are HOT inside!
I really would love to go to Hellfest. If someone/some group of people are searching for another member/friend of their festival gang, are ready to take in introverted at the beginning but very friendly 27yo from eastern europe. Give me a message or something. But not 2024 fest time. For 2025, this year I'll sadly not make it.
Wouldn't know unfortunately I haven't been to Nova Rock yet. From what I know it's also a huge festival just maybe a little less going on than Hellfest
Not a problem, Hellfest is actually already welmcoming a lot of people using a wheelchair, or having other handicaps. There's a whole dedicated organisation for that, with close parking, dedicated camping area, toilets, platforms for attending concerts, etc... Just google for "hellfest pmr" (pmr meaning "personne à mobilité réduite" or people with reduced mobility), you'll find a lot of details (to be translated from french :) )
How does the paying for food, beer, and merch work? I heard you had to buy Hellfest tokens that you exchange for stuff, but after the festival you can't return them or even use them the following year. Did they finally get rid of that?
Who told you that? 🤣 Prior (or during) hellfest you put money on your cashless account. During festival you pay nearly everything (except merch for which you still need a credit card) with your wristband. And at the end, if you still have some remaining money on your cashless account you can get it back.
have you considered Summer Breeze? Check out the line up, it is always better than at Wacken, and in Bavaria, where there is usually less rain. And it is practically a family business and not quite as commercialized as other big festivals.
Having never heard of this festival until now, I have to go one of these years because it’s the only one that actually looks like it cares about the culture and music.
That's like saying you haven't heared of Disneyland before. Hellfest is ridicuously awesome. Plus you can ride the TGV to Nantes and the local train to the festival town.
Did I say they were? If part of France is experiencing a heat wave its a pretty good guess the rest of it would be as well. It's not going to be cold at Hellfest if it's 40 in Paris.
@@No_Camping I know, I've been. Not being welcome is what most people that visit france experience. Hey its cool, you can have your rubbish covered streets and dog shit covered footpaths all to yourself.
when he said "are you a punk with some metal friends and wouldnt mind seeing obituary???" i felt that
"Only in Hell which is in france" fucking true
I would like to point out that there is a place in Norway, not far from Trondheim, litterally called Hell (means "luck" in norwegian).

@@oliwia.black757 I see.
Last year's first week was crazy, it went up to 41°C, we were dying.
Wyatt, Thanks for this! I think I will go there next year and send a postcard with my arse to Bo tiny prick in Zanzibar.
Damn that’s on my bucket list now
Still havn't been to hellfest, but it is deffiently on the list! And if you havn't been to Brutal Assault, then check it out because that line up is insane!
Who's at 3:42? Misthyrming?
Watch this video from Germany in 05:35 . Never been in France.
Celsius? Thanks for putting that into Freedom Units my dude!
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🤘🤘🤘🍺🍺
I’ve got a question.. how do you get tickets? I was right on time today for the first wave of ticket sales yet and it pretty much sold out instantly..
Come to Rockstadt Extremefest in Romania ! Cheap and awesome 5 days of METAL !
Gojira baby!!! Looks like a great time. I'd go. Whats an all day pass worth anyways?
What's the price for a ticket and other stuff? Would have been nice if you could include it because Hellfest gets sold out so quickly every year that there's no way to know a current price for ticket/better camp for me xD
this year, it was around 330€ for 4 days, then you can add around 100€ per day in average
@@cyrilrondeau9620 Thanks!
I want to go to Hellfest within a couple years. I live in the US how much money would realistically want to have saved up for that kind of trip?
I wanna go to hellfest because I live in the uk, so it s pretty close, but the gigantic crowds are a turn-off for me....
That is awesome. Makes me wish I was healthier and had good mental health and was richer too. I love the fact that they take their heatwaves seriously, have a pool, places to cool off etc. Did they charge for water bottles or is that what the fountains are for?
I never attended i always go to Graspop because i live nearby but now im seeing this and if i find someone maybe i switch next year 😮
I'd love to rock 🤘 out at hellfest one of these days it looks awesome
If you want to try another festival in the heart of an european capital, there is Tons of Rock in Oslo, Norway.
Been there 4 times, I hate it now
I really want to go there. It's overtaken wacken as my bucket list festival.
How would Hellfest compare to my local metal festival, the Nova Rock?
Wouldn't know unfortunately I haven't been to Nova Rock yet. From what I know it's also a huge festival just maybe a little less going on than Hellfest
is the hellfest crowd younger than wacken? wacken was nice, but felt like it is 40+
wish there was a gaming zone for awesome arcades and what not :P
they sometimes have a couple!
I live in France and want to go to this hellfest 2023 but have no one to go with :(
Great alt bands.
How difficult is it to get there? Airport close etc?
I really want to go to hell fest one day ❤
Definitely need to go to hellfest
I would love to go, but my concern is I would be using a wheelchair, and I doubt that would work, unfortunately 😕
Not a problem, Hellfest is actually already welmcoming a lot of people using a wheelchair, or having other handicaps. There's a whole dedicated organisation for that, with close parking, dedicated camping area, toilets, platforms for attending concerts, etc...
Just google for "hellfest pmr" (pmr meaning "personne à mobilité réduite" or people with reduced mobility), you'll find a lot of details (to be translated from french :) )
screw for autism keeping me from going to festivals. if i go to a festival im gonna need to go with a couple friends to help me calm down.
Hellfest is what Knotfest thinks it is.
I want to go to there.
Correction: the GodFather of heavy metal is Ozzy Osbourne.
I must say it's far from big cities, so the hotel options are short
Ugh I hate living in alberta Canada when it comes to music festivals. It’s either country or pop festivals. So jealous.
How does the paying for food, beer, and merch work? I heard you had to buy Hellfest tokens that you exchange for stuff, but after the festival you can't return them or even use them the following year. Did they finally get rid of that?
Who told you that? 🤣
Prior (or during) hellfest you put money on your cashless account. During festival you pay nearly everything (except merch for which you still need a credit card) with your wristband.
And at the end, if you still have some remaining money on your cashless account you can get it back.
How is the experience if you don't speak French? I speak English, German, and Spanish, but my French is practically nonexistent.
Cardboard Coffins!
I live in Clisson haha, i can give you all a proof !
have you considered Summer Breeze? Check out the line up, it is always better than at Wacken, and in Bavaria, where there is usually less rain. And it is practically a family business and not quite as commercialized as other big festivals.
I want to do Summer Breeze! Just haven't gotten the chance yet
I'm more of a party san man.
The Offispring should never be anywhere near Hellfest.
Having never heard of this festival until now, I have to go one of these years because it’s the only one that actually looks like it cares about the culture and music.
Just be aware of the satanists..They are evil and they pray to satan and stuff...
That's like saying you haven't heared of Disneyland before. Hellfest is ridicuously awesome. Plus you can ride the TGV to Nantes and the local train to the festival town.
AGAIN hahaha! Toulouse has not the same wheater as Clisson, Nancy! Its more then 500km away from each other 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Did I say they were? If part of France is experiencing a heat wave its a pretty good guess the rest of it would be as well. It's not going to be cold at Hellfest if it's 40 in Paris.
@@wyattsmetal again wrong. jeah cause Paris is much closer :p
@@inhaste6007 you are dumb.
@@wyattsmetal oh, lets go insulting each other! have a nice day!
Looks cool... but its France, I probably wouldn't even go to France for free.
Cool. Because jokes like you are not welcome.
@@No_Camping I know, I've been. Not being welcome is what most people that visit france experience. Hey its cool, you can have your rubbish covered streets and dog shit covered footpaths all to yourself.
On Hellfest the hardest thing is find a real French Metalhead.
France is probably the less Metal country in Europe.
